The drip determines everything nowadays in trap. Iced-out watches, bracelets, rings, and other bejeweled accessories signal success in line with the most braggadocious of a given rapper’s bars. But the coldness goes deeper than swag on “Hielo,” the latest single by Puerto Rican urbano artist Eladio Carrión and hit-making songwriter Jhay Cortez.
Sure, Carrión drops references to Vvs diamonds; yet the hook on this crisp single makes clear that nothing freezes like a certain someone’s kiss. The two pitch woo at the ladies they’re eyeing as traperos do best,...

With a seemingly endless amount of streaming options — not only the titles at our disposal, but services themselves — we’ve taken it upon ourselves to highlight the titles that have recently hit platforms. Every week, one will be able to see the cream of the crop (or perhaps some simply interesting picks) of streaming titles (new and old) across platforms such as Netflix, iTunes, Amazon, and more (note: U.S. only). Check out our rundown for this week’s selections below.
Closet Monster (Stephen Dunn)
Writer/director Stephen Dunn’s feature debut Closet Monster cares little about convention to tell the story of Oscar Madly (Connor Jessup) growing up with a psychological revulsion to his sexual urges, all thanks to an extremely disturbing event witnessed as a child. This prologue glimpse at his youth (played by Jack Fulton) is a mash-up of tough coming-of-age-dramatics and a dark-edged imaginative whimsy that intrigues to draw you closer.

Director Brian De Palma has made movies heavily influenced by Alfred Hitchcock before, but Passion (2012) is the first one whose characters look like they stepped out of one of Hitchcock’s classic films.
Karen Muller-Serreau’s bold and colourful costumes communicate the characters’ hidden desires and make watching Passion a sensory experience. This melodrama centres on two ad executives, Isabelle (Noomi Rapace) and her boss Christine (Rachel McAdams), who have a deadline to come up with an ad campaign for a new smartphone. In her sleep, Isabelle thinks of a great idea.
Dirk (Paul Anderson) in typical pinstriped suit with Isabelle (Noomi Rapace) in even more typical black.
The two other principal characters are Isabelle’s assistant Dani (Karoline Herfurth) and Christine’s boyfriend Dirk (Paul Anderson) who get tangled in the twists and turns of Christine and Isabelle’s relationship. Dani is an angel-faced redhead who is in unrequited love with her boss Isabelle,...

Jon Stewart took a rare night off from “The Daily Show” due to illness Correspondent Jason Jones and, later, his wife Samantha Bee filled in for Stewart, who is expected to return on Tuesday. Their guest was former correspondent Wyatt Cenac. Plus: Jason Jones is no John Oliver. False gunshot report prompts Lapd to rush to Stephen Collins’ home Tuesday night Former “Baywatch” star Donna D'Errico tweeted and later deleted the following tweet: “That guy from ‘7th Heaven’ lives right around the corner from me & just shot himself a few minutes ago.” In fact, Collins wasn't home but he's okay. Ryan Murphy says he's close to getting Neil Patrick Harris aboard “American Horror Story" "I'm working on something and hopefully we will talk next week,” he says. "He's game. He had very specific ideas of what he wanted to do, and I had very specific ideas, so we're melding them.

“I just know there’s something dark in me and I hide it. I certainly don’t talk about it, but it’s there always, this…dark passenger. And when he’s driving, I feel alive, half sick with the thrill of complete wrongness.
I don’t fight him, I don’t want to. He’s all I’ve got. Nothing else could love me, not even… especially not me.
Or is that just a lie the Dark Passenger tells me? Because lately there are these moments when I feel connected to something else… someone. It’s like the mask is slipping and things… people… who never mattered before are suddenly starting to matter. It scares the hell out of me”

This upcoming Sunday, Jun 30th, Showtime's 'Dexter' returns for its 8th and final season! And one of the things I’ve always loved about the show is the time it takes to set up its key story threads for the entire season; meaning it usually takes a good 3-4 episodes before I get a feel for the overall direction they’re heading in. And with that, there are often interested side stories that seem prominent at first but then never pan out. Now, I’m sure there are plenty of plot threads you’re all wondering about – whatever happened to Lumen? Is Jordan Chase presumed dead, or in hiding? Whatever happened to that hottie Masuka started dating while setting up Dexter’s bachelor party? Inquiring minds want to know. But for right now, here are 6 of my personal curiosities. With the final season fast approaching, might some of...

Where is Rosamund Pike finding the time? Fresh off of “Jack Reacher,” the actress is busy filming a significant role in Edgar Wright’s final instalment in the jokingly monikered ‘Blood and Ice Cream’ trilogy, “The World’s End.” Once she’s wrapped on that she’ll be reuniting with Simon Pegg on the set of “Hector and the Search for Happiness,” and she’s also attached to Stephen Brown’s “The Sea.” But not content with that busy schedule (and likely happy to capitalise on a sudden resurgence in popularity), Pike has added another project in the form of Pascal Chaumeil’s English-language debut “A Long Way Down.” Pike will join the film alongside Sam Neill, and they’ll both be joining a cast which already boasts Pierce Brosnan, Toni Collette, Aaron Paul and Imogen Poots. The film is based on a book by Nick Hornby (“High Fidelity,” “An.

Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg have come quite a ways together. Following the immense success of Shaun Of The Dead and Hot Fuzz, two comedic classics, Wright and Pegg are now big players in Hollywood (Pegg has roles in Star Trek and Mission Impossible, Wright wowed with Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World and has Ant-man somewhere up his sleeve). Wright and Pegg are attempting to come full circle with the final installment of their Three Flavours Cornetto trilogy (also referred to as the “Blood & Ice Cream” trilogy) with the upcoming The World’S End. Until recently, the project had been shrouded with secrecy, but the newest issue of Empire featured a few words from Wright and Pegg that gives us some clues to their next adventure.
The movie follows Pegg, as Gary King, who goes on a pub crawl with four of his childhood friends (one of which, is of course,...

The shining star of Showtime’s original programming, Dexter, the series which follows the trials and tribulations of a serial killer trying to balance family life and a career in law enforcement with murdering people, has been towing the line between disturbingly affecting and procedural mediocrity for over six seasons.
Whether you can no longer stand the sound of Michael C. Hall’s spell-it-out-for-you voiceovers, the sight of Deb pining for father (and brother) figures, and Laguerta’s leopard prints, or can’t wait to see how much further Dex can descend into moral ambivalence without blowing his cover (like me), no one can deny the success of the series. Therefore, to enrage haters and keep fans satiated until the show returns for its seventh season this fall, myself and a frequent commenter on my reviews of the sixth season, Christopher Elphick, have compiled a list of the best Dexter episodes thus far.

In Season Two of the HBO smash drama Game of Thrones, Jon Snow becomes a true warrior. Over at The Daily Beast, you can read my latest feature, entitled "Game of Thrones' Emo Hero," in which I sit down with Kit Harington and talk about playing Jon Snow, fame, what’s to come in Season Two, Ygritte, Samwell, and why he refuses to wear a wig. Within the harsh world of HBO’s fantasy series Game of Thrones, based on George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire novels, you either live by the sword or you die by it. In the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros, court is a deadly pit of vipers, with each of the titular game’s players scheming and manipulating their way to higher realms of power and influence. Not everyone is engaged in these sordid power plays. Bastard-born Jon Snow is a child of the North,...

TVShack's Richard O'Dwyer faces 10 years in jail for operating website Us authorities say hosts links to copyrighted material
A judge ruled on Friday that a 23-year-old student can be extradited to the United States for running a website posting links to pirated TV shows and films, despite significant doubts over whether such sites break any UK laws.
The ruling threw Britain's contentious extradition treaty with the Us, which critics allege is greatly biased against UK nationals fighting their removal to America, under further scrutiny. It came just hours after a businessman from Kent lost an appeal against the decision that he should be sent for trial in Texas for allegedly plotting to send missile components to Iran.

The two-time Grammy-nominated artist and husband Chris Deffenbaugh welcomed her second son today in Nashville. So what's the new little guy's name? Baby Jonah Christopher Deffenbaugh came in at 6 pounds, 13 ounces, and will be joining his three-year-old brother, Noah. "Noah couldn't wait to hold his little brother. He's so good with him. God has blessed us so much," Messina said in a statement. And as for mommy, she seems to be holding up all right, thanks to one thing in particular, "Omg! Ice chips never tasted so good. [1] Whether or not Kristen Wiig decides to do Bridesmaids 2 [2], what's obvious is that she's not wanting for work. The actress-writer-producer is already involved with several intriguing projects, and she may soon be attached to one more. Wiig, along with Owen Wilson and Christopher Walken, are circling roles in Errol Morris' Freezing People is Easy, based on Robert F. Nelson's memoir We Froze the First Man and a This American Life segment titled "You’re as Cold as Ice." Paul Rudd has been set for the lead role [3] of Nelson since last year. More details after the jump. Written by Zach Helm (Stranger Than Fiction), the fact-based tale revolves around Nelson, a TV repairman who attempted to devise his own method of cryogenic perservation in the 1960s. As you might imagine, things don't go quite as planned, and Nelson winds up having to apologize to the families of those he's tried and failed to freeze.

Comic-Con has by now evolved into an event so infinitely multi-sided that it almost seems wrong to characterize it as “an event.” It’s more like a mini-metropolis that appears every year to briefly conquer a few square blocks in downtown San Diego; a Brigadoon of hucksterism, Burning Man with a PG-13 rating. At this year’s Comic-Con, you might have spent an entire day sitting in Hall H watching panels about all the movies that will thrill or disappoint you next year; you might have sought out autographs from your favorite A-list comic book creators and C-list celebrities; you...

I could not be more excited to see this film, the final product of a project that nerds who appreciate Simon Pegg and Nick Frost have been hearing about for years. On purpose I’ve been trying to avoid anything and everything about this movie but it’s been hard because it has been everywhere. An alien, Comic-Con, a road trip, Jason Bateman, the laundry list of good things brewing within this movie’s run time is just scrumptious.
So, if you live in the Phoenix area and can make it to a screening on March 15 then send me your name to Christopher_Stipp@yahoo.com and I’ll get you entered to win a pair of passes to see this before everyone else.

There is no denying the talent and popularity of Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. Since the release of the now cult TV favourite Spaced, the pair have embarked on a successful film and television career. However, the absence of Edgar Wright in both his usual writing and directorial capacities from their latest release, Paul (2011), left many people dubious as to what the final result of the film might look like.
Paul tells the story of a geeky duo Graeme Willy (Pegg) and Clive Gollings (Frost) as they set off on a road trip from Comic-Con in San Diego across the Nevada desert, stopping at a number of iconic, alien-related locales. Naturally, they come across an alien by the name of Paul (Seth Rogen), and offer to help him get back to both his UFO and his home planet.
However, with the FBI, the delusional father of a religious woman they adopt,...

Nick Copus’ “Ice” is essentially the British version of the Hollywood Disaster Film, complete with evil corporations, clueless bureaucrats, crusading smarty pants who no one will listen to, and a native all-star cast that includes Sam Neill, Claire Forlani, Ben Bross, Stephen Moyer, and Frances O’Connor. In this case, the disaster du jour is a new Ice Age, made possible from, according to the trailer (view it below), evil oil drilling, or something evil like that. Grab your winter coats! Unprecedented. Undetected. Unstoppable. Undetected, a giant piece of ice the size of a small country breaks off the Antarctic continent and becomes a major world threat as it heads on an inexorable course north towards the UK, Europe and the Us. Swathed in its own fog, and carrying its own devastating weather patterns the frozen colossus triggers a series of disasters and plunges the world’s temperatures into steep...

Check out this trailer for Ice starring Richard Roxburgh, Sam Neil, Claire Forlani, Frances O'Connor and Stephen Moyer.
Synopsis:
It is 2020. Findings by environmental scientist Professor Thom Archer suggest that Halo, the corporate energy company drilling on the Greenland Glacier are causing it to melt. Archer's warnings are ignored, so he heads to the Arctic to find indisputable evidence. Upon arrival, he realizes humankind is under immediate threat, and races home to save his family. The glacier collapses, with devastating consequences. Astonishing weather patterns emerge and plunge the world's temperatures into steep decline.
Yeah I know it looks a lot like The Day After Tomorrow but I like the cast and think it looks like it should be worth a viewing. What are your thoughts?

TV director, Nick Copus (The 4400, Nikita) is making his film debut with an action flick about an impending ice age. The UK/New Zealand co-production centers on a scientist named Archer (Richard Roxburgh), who realizes an evil oil company’s drilling is causing the world’s glaciers to melt. Now he’s in a race against time to save his family as the world crumbles around him.
The hokey premise has somehow wrangled a cast that includes Frances O’ Connor (The Importance of Being Earnest), Stephen Moyer (True Blood), and Sam Neill (Yes).
Check out the trailer:
Am I alone in thinking this looks ten shades of awful? To me, this trailer looks like a forgotten thriller from the ’80s that should be showing on TNT.

The writers over at Quiet Earth continue to amaze this reviewer with unique and interesting content; their latest unearthing is the New Zealand shot Ice. This environmental disaster film from director Nick Copus ("The Dead Zone") and English writer James Follett (Quiet Earth) envisions a world in an another looming ice age. Oil supplies have collapsed and the "Greenland Glacier" (Quiet) is melting, with dire consequences for those living across the world. Hundreds of feet of snow cover every major land mass and the film asks: "what will you do, where will you go to survive?" (Ice).
The film is set in the year 2020 and production on this film has recently completed. The distribution company Power will help facilitate Ice's move to theatres and other platforms, but a release date has not been announced for North America. However, a glorious two minute trailer can be found on the film below.

Here's a new movie trailer for an apocalyptic environmental thriller called Ice, which stars Stephen Moyer, Sam Neill, Frances O’Connor, Richard Roxburgh, Claire Forlani, Ben Cross, Simon Callow and Patrick Pergin.
I haven't heard of this film until today, but it looks a hell of a lot like The Day After Tomorrow, only much better. At the same time this seems like a very preachy environmental type movie. This is nothing we haven't already seen before.
The film was directed by Nick Copus who recently made the BBC version of The Day of the Triffids.
Here’s an detailed synopsis of the film from The Quiet Earth:
Ice sees the destructive effects of climate change cause unimaginable devastation and panic worldwide as the human race finds itself contemplating the dawn of a new ice age.

Is Sam Neill trying to make a comeback through indie action movies? That or he just needed to earn some extra money. Yep, it's The Day After Tomorrow all over again. Quiet Earth found a trailer for a movie called Ice that literally has the exact same plot as The Day After Tomorrow - a guy gets separated from his loved ones, crazy new ice age ravages the world, covering the UK in hundreds of feet of snow. And then it becomes an action movie. I can't quite decide if this looks better or worse than The Day After Tomorrow, but maybe I'll give it a shot because it's British and has a good cast: Stephen Moyer, Richard Roxburgh, Claire Forlani. Watch the trailer for Nick Copus' environmental action movie Ice: Environmentalist Thom Archer warns of a new ice age and points a finger at sinister energy giant Halo,...

After last week’s juicy blowout, during which Gretchen committed unintentional hari kari in front of the judges and saw her ego get chopped into tattered little swatches by Tim Gunn, we were all waiting with bated breath to see how the aftermath would play out. Would the designers realize they’d been mere pawns in Gretchen’s scheme to rule the world with an iron seam ripper? Would Ivy stop playing flying monkey to Gretchen’s Wicked Witch of the West? Would Michael C. finally rid himself of the flashing neon Pariah sign hanging on his forehead?

Stephen Moyer may be best known as True Blood’s Bill Compton, but that will surely change soon. The soon-to-be Mr. Anna Paquin has signed on for roles in two upcoming films. Moyer already has four films in post-production – The Caller, Priest, Master Class, and Ice. And with the premiere of the third season of True Blood less than a week away, this looks to be his biggest year yet.

Tonight, ABC unleashes another would-be cult show with the dark mystery Happy Town. We’ve had the chance – with a lot of other press – to take in the first three episodes of Happy Town. I’ll admit I came into Happy Town with a lot of cynicism because the early marketing cheekily dropped the phrase “from the network that brought you Twin Peaks.” I worship Twin Peaks. When all was said and done though, Happy Town made me a believer.
The first thing you need to do before you watch Happy Town is get all of these Twin Peaks allusions out of your head. Both shows start with similar subject matter , an overarching mystery playing out in an isolated hamlet populated by typical small-town types with dark pasts, but that is where they part ways. Happy Town is far less in the realm of Théâtre de l'Absurde than Twin Peaks...
