HBO has released the trailer for MoviePass, MovieCrash, an upcoming documentary about the rise and fall of the movie ticketing subscription service. Watch it below.
MoviePass, MovieCrash primarily focuses on what went wrong in 2017, when the company introduced a bonkers $10 per month subscription for unlimited movie tickets. At the time, control of MoviePass had been wrested from co-founders Stacy Spikes and Hamet Watt, with former CEOs Mitch Lowe and Ted Farnsworth leading the charge.
In the trailer, one former employee gives a peek into the behind-the-scenes drama, saying, “When they talk about MoviePass, you usually get a picture of Mitch [Lowe] and Ted [Farnsworth]. But that’s definitely not the case.”
Directed by award-winning filmmaker Muta’Ali, MoviePass, MovieCrash features interviews with the company’s co-founders, former CEO Lowe, and former employees, as well as subscribers, investors, journalists, and financial analysts.

The last couple of years have really ramped up in AI capability and debate. It even became one of the biggest issues that the artists fought for when the writers and actors held union strikes when Hollywood studios started to implement more of the technology to cut certain corners. People all over social media would blow up at Disney for attempting to slip by some rather synthetic-looking extras for a basketball scene in a Disney+ movie titled Prom Pact. Even films like Civil War and Late Night with the Devil, which have been shown admiration and support from audiences for the filmmakers’ ingenuity with their creative visions, came under fire for using AI technology for producing images.
A new article from The Hollywood Reporter has admitted that “everyone in Hollywood uses AI, but they are scared to admit it.” Naturally, no matter how big or how small the usage is,...

Director Scott Mann’s thriller Fall, which stars Grace Caroline Currey (Shazam!: Fury of the Gods) and Virginia Gardner (Halloween 2018) as a pair of characters who get stuck at the top of a 2000 foot tall radio tower, was given a theatrical release, but it wasn’t really a break-out hit. It made $21 million worldwide, on a budget of $3 million. More viewers watched it on Amazon, purchased it on Blu-ray or DVD (order it Here), or caught it on Starz or Netflix… and Fall was so successful on Netflix, it was enough to get back-to-back sequels greenlit by Capstone Studios! Mann will be writing and directing Fall 3 himself, but he has decided to hand the helm of the middle installment of this trilogy over another director. Or, as it turns out, other directors. Capstone Studios’ CEO Christian Mercuri has announced that Fall 2 is set to be directed by the filmmaking...

Fear reached dizzying new heights in Lionsgate’s Fall, a survival thriller from the producers of 47 Meters Down that was released in August 2022. Its surprise success means there are not one but two sequels on the way, and today, the Spierig Brothers have been announced to direct Fall 2.
Michael and Peter Spierig (Lionsgate’s Jigsaw, Winchester, Daybreakers) are set to direct the sequel. Scott Mann, who directed and co-wrote the first film, is returning to co-write Fall 2 with Jonathan Frank.

Barbie star and the the internet’s darling, Ryan Gosling, along with his arch-nemesis of the box office, Oppenheimer star Emily Blunt, joined forces to bring a new flavor to the theaters recently with their latest flick The Fall Guy. Yet, to everyone’s disappointment, the audience failed to embrace it. Despite its ingenuity, the film fell short and is now aiming to end its theatrical run, barely scraping above its production costs.
Ryan Gosling as stuntman Colt Seavers in The Fall Guy
This setback left Gosling disheartened once more, reminiscent of the time when The Nice Guys took a similar plunge eight years ago. Seems like audiences just don’t appreciate good cinema anymore!
The Fall Guy Box Office Collections Are Criminally Low!
In early May, Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt hand in hand brought a breath of fresh air to cinemas with their latest movie, The Fall Guy.

Cannes festival workers turned a pre-festival meet-and-greet event into a spontaneous strike rally on Sunday, applauding representatives from the Sous les écrans la dèche collective, a group that has called for a walkout by freelance workers to disrupt this year’s event.
On Sunday, May 12, festival workers were invited to meet with management for a pre-festival cocktail and informal welcome, something that happens every year before the festival kicks off.
But this time, members of the Sous les écrans distributed badges and stickers for workers to show their solidarity with the group’s demands, which include a general strike of “all employees of the Cannes Film Festival and of its sidebars” in protest of what the group terms the “precarious” position of freelancer workers at the event.
In a video sent to The Hollywood Reporter by a member of Sous les écrans, workers can be seen applauding the group’s spokesman and cheering him on.

Selena Gomez Disables Instagram Comments. (Photo Credit – Instagram)
If you’re one of Selena Gomez’s 428 million followers, you might have noticed that the singer has restricted her Instagram comments. Unless you are one of the lucky few that the “Kill ’em with Kindness” singer has decided to follow back, you will find yourself unable to comment on her posts.
Fans were quick to take issue with the restriction despite it being the singer’s prerogative as to what she chooses to do with her social media accounts. Shortly after, frustrated fans turned sleuths pointed out that Selena Gomez limited her Instagram comments to only the accounts she followed days before Justin Bieber and Hailey Bieber announced they were expecting their first child together.
Selena Gomez famously dated Bieber for eight years before they finally called it quits. The unamicable breakup spurred a few songs that gave fans an insight into their volatile relationship.

Late A Nightmare on Elm Street, The Last House on the Left and Scream director Wes Craven was responsible for some of the most iconic movies, characters and moments in horror cinema, but he was also behind his share of duds, and one of 'em is getting a remake.
Craven didn't actually direct 2006's The Breed, but he was a producer on the film, and recruited his A New Nightmare assistant director Nick Mastandrea to helm.
The movie focuses on two brothers and their friends who travel to an island cabin they inherited from their recently deceased uncle for a relaxing weekend getaway. The group is then besieged by genetically enhanced dogs bred to kill via an abandoned training facility on the Island.
The Breed was not well-received (to say the least), earning a 27% score from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. Now, Variety reports that brothers Nathan and Griff Furst are set to direct a remake,...

In an interesting bit of remake news, a 2006 film that was produced by horror icon Wes Craven will be remade for a new horror reimagining. The Breed starred Fast & Furious family member Michelle Rodriguez and Oliver Hudson. Variety reports that director brothers Sean and Bryan Furst will be sitting in the director seats for the new incarnation, which has been described as an “unconventional reimagining of the Wes Craven cult classic.” The brothers will produce the horror film together through their company, Curmudgeon Films.
It has also now being said that Grace Caroline Currey, who is known as Mary in both Shazam and Shazam: Fury of the Gods, as well as starring in 2022’s suspense flick Fall, is set to star in the remake for the Furst brothers. Boy, Bodkin is the type of series that revels in its own self-importance. The new Netflix mystery series has a great premise, considering how popular true crime podcasts are nowadays. However, the series is a cluttered mess with so many twists and turns that it begins to take so many times. Like McGruff the Crime Dog, the plot goes around in circles instead of wrapping up the case.
The story follows Dove (The Dry’s Siobhán Cullen), an investigative journalist on the lamb, so to speak. Her editor orders her to travel to the small Irish town of Bodkin to accompany a podcast team looking for a story. The excursion may be good for Dove since she is under investigation for illegally obtaining and publishing classified government information.

Grace Caroline Currey has joined the cast of “The Breed,” and is set to lead the film. Directed by brothers Nathan and Griff Furst, the film is an “unconventional reimagining of the Wes Craven cult classic.” The brothers will produce together through their company, Curmudgeon Films.

There are not many stars who can match the love commanded by Taylor Swift from her fans. The singer has seen it all, an ascent to fame that would see her rise to the top of the industry, a fall that would leave her scarring for quite some time, and a resurgence people will speak tales of. She really is an icon.
The chronicles of Taylor Swift are never-ending. Even though she has found herself on the wrong side of the media at times, that has not dampened her prospects even a little. Her recent achievement is a testament to how the surrounding noise matters little to Swift (and Swifties).

Arrowhead’s beloved co-op shooter, Helldivers 2, is experiencing its first round of negative press, that too very overwhelming. The studio recently announced that PC players will have to link a Psn account to continue playing the game after May 6.
Hundreds of thousands of players were blindsided at the sudden change, which was optional at the game’s launch. Concerns about data security and regions without Psn access are being brought up, and Arrowhead has been taking the brunt of the blame, even though it’s not their decision.
Arrowhead’s Hand Was Potentially Forced By Their Publisher
Arrowhead officials have named publisher Sony as the reason behind the controversial decision.
The studio’s community manager, Spitz, revealed in Helldivers 2‘s official Discord channel that the mandate has been enforced by the game’s publisher, Sony. It was intended to be there since launch, but technical issues delayed the account linking requirement.

Despite garnering positive reviews after its premiere at the 2024 SXSW, the action comedy film The Fall Guy failed to meet the box office expectations after it finally hit the theatres on May 3. The film, which was projected to make at least $30 million in its opening weekend, has fallen short to $28.5 million.

Following what has been described as a disappointing box-office performance, industry expert Scott Mendelson has shared his argument on why the PVOD release strategy might not be the sole reason behind The Fall Guy’s underwhelming opening at the box office.

Dwayne Johnson and Dany Garcia, founders of Seven Bucks Productions, are exec producing Who Killed WCW?

However, it endured significant losses and suffered from the merger between Turner parent Tim Warner and AOL and was shut down in 2001.
The series, which premieres on June 4, will explore the complex factors that led to the promotion’s downfall, including management challenges, creative decisions, and the intense competition during the infamous Monday Night Wars. It will feature exclusive, in-depth interviews with wrestlers, executives,...

Few horror movies in the last several decades have left quite as much a psychological scar as "Rosemary's Baby" from 1968, a widespread cultural obsession among genre fans that has now led to a prequel film called "Apartment 7A," which has long been in the works and finally has a release window.
We first heard about "Apartment 7A" back in 2022, which was meant to tell the story of the eponymous apartment before Rosemary Woodhouse ever moved in and experienced the story's awful events. First told in author Ira Levin's best-selling novel, the main setting of that old, eerie-looking building on Central Park West ranks high among the likes of the Overlook Hotel from "The Shining," the Nostromo in "Alien," and other famous horror locales. Now, we're finally getting an origin story -- of sorts -- with ties going all the way back to the controversial Roman Polanski-directed classic.

At CinemaCon on Wednesday, Lionsgate showed off its recently added 2024 fall release, Alexandre Aja’s Never Let Go, a freaky tale about a mother and her fraternal twins who have never gone beyond their forested environs: Whenever they leave the cabin, they are bounded by rope as they venture into the scary woods.
“It was a creepy environment that I had never seen before,” said star Halle Berry, who reteams with the studio that notched her a Best Actress Oscar win for Monster’s Ball.
“I’m a bona fide adrenaline junkie — the bigger the zipline, the bigger the jump — I’m your girl.”
“I had to learn how to skin a squirrel” said Berry about her prep for the role. Not to mention, the characters eat raw frogs in the film.

Building the World The deal seems too good to be true — Elodie’s village would receive gold from the kingdom, and all she needed to do was get to know the prince and follow through with the marriage. Warning signs are subtly introduced on the journey to Aurea, where Elodie’s family travels through dark fog illuminated by hyper-realistic dragon statues with fire in their mouths. As day breaks, the breathtaking kingdom scenery is revealed and the foreboding dragons are quickly forgotten by the family.

The Current Debate is a column that connects the dots between great writing about a topic in the wider film conversation.Oppenheimer.“If there’s a sense of disconnect between what’s on stage and the outside world,” Alison Willmore writes of the 96th Academy Awards in Vulture, “Hollywood’s always declared itself the kingdom of dreams.” That might well be true, but the ceremony’s ostrichlike indifference toward some of the issues dominating global headlines this year felt especially jarring. While pro-Palestine protesters outside the theater blocked traffic and held signs with messaging like, “What good is art that ignores genocide,” only Jonathan Glazer, director of the Holocaust drama The Zone of Interest (all films 2023 unless otherwise noted), which was crowned Best International Film, dared to address the bloodshed in Gaza and Israel. French legal drama Anatomy of a Fall‘s against-the-odds global box office run isn’t over just yet. The acclaimed courtroom thriller, which won the Cannes Film Festival’s Palme d’Or in 2023 and the Oscar for best original screenplay last week, has secured a nationwide theatrical release date in China on March 29.
Chinese specialty distributor Road Pictures will handle the local marketing and release of Anatomy of a Fall in partnership with the state-backed China Film Group. The film’s writer and director Justine Triet will attend a local premiere event in Beijing on March 24.

Australian author Liane Moriarty is known for her layered characters, complex family dynamics, and intriguing mysteries. After the success of her book-to-screen adaptation of Big Little Lies on HBO in 2017, she's been in high demand.
In 2021, Hulu adapted another novel, Nine Perfect Strangers, which expanded on the characters' arcs from the book. It became a hit because of the humor in the series.

At this year’s Academy Awards, “The Fall Guy” stars Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt presented a video tribute to stunt performers that included clips ranging from the silent era up through recent action juggernauts like “Rrr” and the “Fast & Furious” series. It was a step forward for a group whose contributions are frequently undervalued despite, as Blunt put it, “risk[ing] life and limb” for cinema. And yet, the segment didn’t come with an award attached.
There’s a joke about the lack of Oscars for stunt people in “The Fall Guy,” directed by David Leitch — himself a former stuntman who doubled for Brad Pitt and Jean-Claude Van Damme before moving up into the director’s chair with “John Wick” in 2014. The film is based on the ABC series of the same name starring Lee Majors; although stunt performers aren’t officially recognized by the Academy, their derring-do...

By all appearances, Joy (Annette Bening) and Stan Delaney (Sam Neill) have lived an idyllic life. Both were tennis champions in their youth and tennis coaches for decades later. Together, they founded the Delaney Tennis Academy in South Florida, where he helped at least one star pupil go on to win a Grand Slam. Now, they’ve sold the school and are entering retirement, hoping to spend as much time as possible with their four grown kids, Troy (Jake Lacy), Amy (Alison Brie), Logan (Conor Merrigan-Turner), and Brooke (Essie Randles). These are two people who spent their professional lives playing the sport they’ve always loved, and who still found romance, community, and connection at home. They have it all, and every bit of it is pretty darn good.
Or… is it? Like a classic family photo with one concerning detail, the Delaneys’ picturesque portrait fractures when put under sudden,...

On Oscar night, details matter. Who are you wearing? What are you nominated for? Who won? Just don’t expect everyone to know the answers.
“What movie won?” Rick Hilton asked as he and wife Kathy Hilton assumed position at the end of a glamorous queue to get into Vanity Fair’s 30th anniversary Oscar party in Beverly Hills on Sunday after 10 p.m. They asked their son, Kathy says, but no clue. Fortunately, a gentleman standing directly in front of the couple had the answer. “It was Oppenheimer,” he said, not mentioning the awkwardness of Al Pacino’s best picture reveal. Some details can be saved for Monday morning. Plus, there are more rapid-fire questions to field.
What movie is that? Is it based on a true story? Who was the emcee?
“Oh, Jimmy Kimmel. I like him,” Rick said, smiling, in a totally relatable moment because who doesn’t love Jimmy Kimmel?...
