Exclusive: Stephen Dillane (Game Of Thrones), Lydia Leonard (Gentleman Jack), and James D’Arcy (Homeland) will headline Nordic noir spy thriller Red Election, which is set at Scandi streamer Viaplay and is co-produced by A+E Networks International.
Housed at Swedish production outfit Mopar Studios, Deadline first mooted the 10-part series in January. Production has now wrapped following a six-month delay last year, when filming was shut down after just two weeks because of the coronavirus pandemic.
Set against the backdrop of a terrorist plot in London, Red Election centers on Danish secret service agent Katrine Poulson (played by Danish actress Victoria Carmen Sonne) and British spy Beatrice Ogilvy (Leonard), who are pitched together in a desperate race against time.
Caught in a web of lies, murder, and power struggles, they soon realize they can’t trust anybody and that the deadly conspiracy could be part of a far-reaching geopolitical masterplan.

This week, British actor, writer and director Noel Clarke has made headlines after being accused of groping, harassment and bullying by 20 women.
Clarke played Mickey Smith in “Doctor Who” from 2005 to 2010 and starred as Sam in the films “Kidulthood,” “Adulthood” and “Brotherhood,” which he wrote and directed, intent on bringing more representations of working-class Britain to screen. Clarke also writes, produces and plays Aaron Bishop in the British police procedural series “Bulletproof,” alongside close friend Ashley Walters.
Clarke made his film debut in 2003’s “I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead” and has since starred in movies including “Star Trek Into Darkness,” “Centurion,” “4.3.2.1.,” “Fast Girls,” “Storage 24,” “I Am Soldier,” “The Anomaly,” “I Kill Giants,” “Mute,” “10×10,” “The Corrupted,” “Twist” and “Sas: Red Notice.”
In 2015, Clarke founded the London-based production company Unstoppable Film and Television with Jason Maza, eventually securing investment from super-indie All3Media, which owns “Fleabag” producer Two Brothers and “1917” outfit Neal Street Productions.

Deception and Being Human alum Lenora Crichlow has been cast opposite Hugh Laurie, Zach Woods, Suzy Nakamura, Rebecca Front, Josh Gad and Nikki Amuka-Bird in Armando Iannucci’s HBO space comedy pilot Avenue 5.
Created, written and executive produced by Iannucci, the tentatively titled project is set in the future, mostly in space. Crichlow will play Billie McEvoy, the second engineer. Young, outspoken, smart and career-focused but exhausted by responsibility, she loves building and fixing things but is terrified of dying in space.
The UK-born Crichlow most recently had a series-regular role last season on ABC’s Deception, in which Jack Cutmore-Scott played a superstar magician who worked for the FBI. It was canceled in May after one season. She also was the lead in the “White Bear” episode of Netflix/Channel 4’s Black Mirror and co-starred on Netflix’s Will Arnett-starring Flaked after breaking out on Channel 4’s Sugar Rush.

From Doctor Who’s Mickey to a one-man film industry, and Brotherhood. So why doesn’t Noel Clarke get more respect?
Over the past weekend, the final part of Noel Clarke’s The Hood trilogy of movies, Brotherhood, hit big in the UK. The movie has earned £1.98m in its first seven days on release, on just 220 screens. It did so in spite of Clarke at one stage struggling to raise the finance for the film (only two companies ended up putting in tangible offers), and also in spite of it being eight years since the release of its predecessor, Adulthood.
In a summer of box office disappointments, Brotherhood has offered a very welcome contrast.
The box office numbers were being reported as a surprise, and not unreasonably. Rounding off a trilogy that’s been off screen for many years is a gamble, and a trilogy too...

Suffers from a terrible case of cinematic aphasia. Clearly thinks it’s saying something important and deep, but makes no damn sense at all. I’m “biast” (pro): loved the first movie

Congratulations to Monsters: Dark Continent for making history with perhaps the worst case ever of cinematic aphasia. This is a film that clearly thinks it’s saying something important and deep, but it makes no damn sense at all. The scenes and the dialogue and the plot and the subtext (which bits I can guess at): none of them connect up in any meaningful way, not on a small scale and not in the big picture. None of it communicates anything other than the fact that director and cowriter (with Jay Basu: Fast Girls) Tom Green (British TV director, not...

A product of the Disney princess machine. Its highest ambition is to move a new line of toys. Or to evoke despair in the fairy-tale-ization of girls’ lives. I’m “biast” (pro): I’ve enjoyed director Kenneth Branagh’s movies
I’m “biast” (con): I’m so done with princess crap
(what is this about? see my critic’s minifesto)
This is how it begins, the fairy-tale-ization of little girls’ lives. Make sure to get ’em while they’re young, and tell ’em: You don’t need any discernible personality or interest in the world to be successful as a lady. Just “be kind,” even to the point of being a doormat; for god’s sake, don’t make waves or complain, just endure whatever abuse the world throws at you even if you could easily walk away from it. As a reward, eventually, luck and magic will...

Colleagues including Elizabeth Karlsen, Adrian Wootton, Hugo Heppell and Amma Asante pay tribute to the late BFI Film Fund executive
I first met Chris at the Dinard FIlm Festival. I’d just watched Sarah Gavron’s beautiful rendition of Brick Lane, which Chris had produced. After the screening he, Sarah and I sat at small table outdoors in the brilliant sunshine talking about films, the pressures of being an independent producer, our daughters and how much I loved Brick Lane. I hope he knew that I was speaking from the heart. I was struck then by his quiet intelligence, his gracious and kind nature and his absolute devotion to and passion for independent film making. I could see that Sarah had enjoyed tremendous commitment from him as a producer on her first film. Two years ago, the huge success of the Daniel Radcliffe-led horror The Woman in Black confirmed Hammer’s comeback. Next year, the production company is coming back with the sequel, The Woman in Black: Angel of Death, with relative newcomer Phoebe Fox taking the lead alongside Jeremy Irvine (War Horse).
The first film took more than $120m. at the global box office, an impressive feat for any film, and even more so for a film made outside of the Us. And now we’ve got our first taste of the horrors in store for us next year, with the first teaser trailer landing online.

It has been well over a year since we last reported on the planned adaptation of Seth Grahame-Smith's 'Pride and Prejudice and Zombies'. The project has already eaten through a feast of talent attached to the project at some point or another including stars such as Scarlett Johansson ('Avengers Assemble'), Natalie Portman and Anne Hathaway ('Les Miserables'). As well as Mike White and David O. Russell all set to work behind the camera. However, shooting is expected to kick off next month so this fresh coming together of director Burr Steers ('Igby Goes Down') and actors Sam Riley, Lily James -below ('Fast Girls', 'Downton Abbey') and the stunning Bella Heathcote -below ('Dark Shadows') will hopefully remain as the 'final' official line-up for the project....

In the blisteringly hot mid-summer of 2013 HeyUGuys were whisked away to a warehouse in East London to see one of this summer’s big British films, Noel Clarke’s The Anomaly, be shot. As soon as we walked into the warehouse, all sunshine was lost, and we found ourselves in a garish corridor, deep reds from floor to wall, and windowed booths every other step. This, apparently, is part of a brothel set on the sci-fi film’s shoot, and is being used at this point to house crew and cast between takes in a bedroom just far enough away to barely hear the dialogue being shot, but the punches are clear. Just to check, I asked Noel Clarke if this is in any way a family film. “No, 100% no. Have you seen any of my films that are family films? Except maybe Fast Girls.”

Hard though this is to believe, it's been more than four years since Noel Clarke last directed a movie. He had a triple whammy of writer-producer credits in 2012 with Fast Girls, Storage 24 and The Knot. Now he's back behind the camera, parlaying his Storage 24 and Star Trek Into Darkness experience into a low-budget but high-concept science fiction thriller.
Clarke plays the lead role of Ryan, a former soldier who finds himself captive in the back of a van and only able to stay conscious in bursts of precisely 9 minutes and 47 seconds.
Digital Spy sat down with Ian Somerhalder on the film's London set last summer to discuss the joys of shooting sci-fi on a shoestring, the film's Memento-like premise, and his work with the Ian Somerhalder Foundation.

Ryan has a lot of questions, and very little time to find any answers.
Traumatised ex-soldier Ryan wakes up in the back of a van, alongside a kidnapped boy. Ryan helps him escape but when he finds a mask in his pocket he comes to an appalling realisation…. But there’s no time to act – after nine minutes and forty seven seconds of consciousness it all goes black. What does this have to do with Ryan’s past as a patient at the experimental Medical Unit? Ryan has a lot of questions, and very little time to find any answers.
The Anomaly stars Ian Somerhalder (The Vampire Diaries, Lost), Noel Clarke (Star Trek into Darkness, Fast Girls), Brian Cox (The Bourne Ultimatum, Rise of the Planet of the Apes), Alexis Knapp (Pitch Perfect, Project X) and Luke Hemsworth in his first lead feature film role.

Universal Pictures' take on Electronic Arts' Dante's Inferno video game has found a helmer in Fede Alvarez. Deadline reports that the Evil Dead director will tackle the adaptation of the game, itself loosely inspired by the first third of Dante Alighieri's 14th century epic poem, "The Divine Comedy." Released in 2010, Dante's Inferno reimagines Alighieri as a Templar Knight traversing the nine circles of Hell to rescue the soul of his beloved Beatrice. Although the plot of the game represents a significant departure from the original text, the specific layout of Hell is directly inspired by Alighieri's words. Marc Abraham and Eric Newman are set to produce alongside EA's Patrick O.Brien with Jay Basu ( The Dinosaur Project , Fast Girls ) having turned in the...

While "Monsters" helmer Gareth Edwards has taken a huge leap from his tiny breakout film, directing next year's massive "Godzilla," the success of his eerie creature feature is something producers have been unable to leave behind. And so of course, no time has been wasted in mounting a sequel to "Monsters"—bearing the foreboding title "Monsters: The Dark Continent"—and though filming only got underway this past spring, we already have a teaser trailer to hint at what's in store. The follow-up (dubbed a "continuation") has swapped out Edwards for first-time feature filmmaker and TV regular Tom Green ("Misfits," "Blackout"), and the script from Jay Basu ("The Dinosaur Project," "Fast Girls") is set a few years after the original, with the U.S. military in the Middle East confronting another "infected zone." Johnny Harris ("Snow White & The Huntsman," "Welcome To The Punch"), Sam Keeley ("What Richard Did") and Joe Dempsie ("Skins,...

At ABC‘s upfront, there were a few things that the network wanted to make sure you knew. 1) They are really impressed with the idea that people are going to watch Rebel Wilson do just about anything, and 2) There isn’t anything they’re happier about than bringing you more episodes of television created by Shonda Rhimes.
On these notes, the network would love for you to know that more Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal are coming your way. These, ABC would like to impress upon you (as advertisers) are really good shows. Because… hellllooo… so many people watch them that we’re bringing them back. But wait, don’t think that you’re as excited as you can get yet, because if those are your favorite shows, then we have a new one for you to fall in love with, Betrayal.

It's another Downton Abbey actor making the jump from the mansion to the movies! Lily James – perhaps better known as Lady Rose – is set for her biggest role yet, securing the lead in Disney’s new version of Cinderella. Not much is known about what (if any) changes the new film will make to the traditional story of the poor girl and her wicked stepmother/stepsisters, the handsome Prince Charming and the dance that decides their destinies, but Cate Blanchett is attached to play the evil, calculating stepmother. The film has been through some creative and casting wobbles already, with Mark Romanek ditching the director’s chair over creative differences and Emma Watson passing on the chance to wear the glass slippers.James, who has already appeared in the likes of Fast Girls and Wrath Of The Titans, is likely to see her star rise that bit higher if the new fairytale film works,...

Kenneth Branagh is set to direct the film, with Cate Blanchett long ago set to play the film’s “iconic evil stepmother” who is determined to marry off her fugly daughters, while forcing poor ol Cinderella to clean the house and such. No word if this live-action take on the tale will include singing animals and the like. Branagh, taking over for Mark Romanek, who was originally attached to the film, is directing from a script by Chris Weitz. Disney is eyeing a 2014 release date for the film.
