‘Bombshell’ Star John Lithgow Digs Into Insecurity Of A Tyrant To Portray Roger Ailes: “The Troll Under The Bridge” Of Fox News
John Lithgow has always been hungry for a challenge, playing a plethora of roles, from aliens to priests, to sitcom dads, murderers, millionaires, scientists, and schizophrenics. “I can walk down one block and people will recognize me for 10 different things,” he laughs at a bustling lunch spot in North Hollywood. It’s an unpredictable path that’s allowed him to pick up six Emmys, two Tonys and two Golden Globes.

Lately, however, Lithgow’s been hunting big game. Three years ago, he agreed to play Winston Churchill on The Crown. Until then, he’d mostly avoided playing real-life figures—he didn’t see the fun in retelling a story audiences already knew. But Lithgow was so chuffed to bring the British Bulldog to heel, psychoanalyzing him as a weakened titan terrified of failure, that he started gobbling up powerful men. In the last year alone, he’s played Bill Clinton

Bombshell Trailer: Nicole Kidman, Margot Robbie & Charlize Theron Take on Fox News Scandal

  • MovieWeb
"What started with a whisper, will end with a bombshell." Lionsgate released the new teaser for Bombshell today, and it is tense. Based on the real scandal, Bombshell is a revealing look inside the most powerful and controversial media empire of all time; Fox News, and the explosive story of the women who brought down the infamous man who created it.

Playing those women are Academy Award winners Charlize Theron as Megyn Kelly and Nicole Kidman as Gretchen Carlson and Academy Award nominee Margot Robbie as a fictional character named Kayla Pospicil. Rounding out the award worthy central cast is Academy Award nominee John Lithgow who is portraying the accused Roger Ailes.

Although simple, the tense trailer gives us the first look at the three women as they stand awkwardly in the elevator together. Nicole Kidman as Carlson initially looks like she wants to speak with her co-workers, but thinks better of it.

The Death of Dick Long Trailer: Things Go South in This Twisted Tale of Murder

The Death of Dick Long Trailer: Things Go South in This Twisted Tale of Murder
A24 has unveiled the first trailer for The Death of Dick Long. This comes from director Daniel Scheinert, one half of the duo behind Swiss Army Man, the "farting corpse" movie starring Daniel Radcliffe and Paul Dano that went on to become something of an indie hit. Scheinert co-directed that effort with Dan Kwan, but is flying solo this time around. Scheinert's latest is a bit different, though it still involves a dead body that is central to the plot, and is said to explore the "heartache of what happens when dark secrets are dragged kicking and screaming into the light." Based on this first trailer, we're in for a pretty unique ride.

The trailer kicks off by not wasting any time. We see a trio of bandmates getting "weird" after practice one day. Chugging Natty Ice, shooting guns and setting off fireworks. Things take an ugly turn as one member of the trio,

‘Front Runner’ Director Jason Reitman Explains How Gary Hart Changed Elections Forever

  • Variety
With the country in the grip of midterm election fever Tuesday, Sony Pictures is opening the Hugh Jackman political drama “The Front Runner” in two theaters in Los Angeles and two in New York City.

Jason Reitman, director of “The Front Runner,” told Variety that his film is especially relevant now — even though the events in it took place 31 years ago. And he’s riveted by the current election.

“I have no idea what’s going to happen,” he admitted. “Today feels like a mystery because the country is so divided. The movie asks questions that are very timely — about how we consume news and what is relevant versus what is private.”

Jackman brings Gary Hart to life as a charismatic presidential candidate whose campaign crashes and burns in 1987, thanks to the revelation of an extramarital relationship with Donna Rice. The Miami Herald newspaper followed Rice on a flight from Miami to Washington,

Paramount Sets First Look Deal With Adam McKay & Will Ferrell’s Gary Sanchez & Gloria Sanchez Labels

  • Deadline
Exclusive: Paramount Pictures has set Gary Sanchez Productions and sister label Gloria Sanchez into a new three-year first look feature deal. Gary Sanchez Productions is led by principals Will Ferrell and Adam McKay with producer Jessica Elbaum heading Gloria Sanchez.

This comes as Paramount percolates the Demetri Martin scripted Will, and the English language remake of the German comedy Toni Erdmann, with Lisa Cholodenko to direct a vehicle for Kristen Wiig.

Ferrell and McKay once had a deal under the prior regime at Paramount but left the studio. Bringing them back is a coup for chairman Jim Gianopulos and Paramount Motion Picture Group president Wyck Godfrey. Gary Sanchez Productions films have grossed almost $1 billion worldwide for Paramount. That includes Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters ($226M), Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues ($173M), the Will Ferrell/Mark Wahlberg Daddy’s Home ($242M) and Daddy’s Home 2 ($180M) and The Big Short, the

‘La To Vegas’: Will Ferrell Eyed For Appearance As Fox Comedy Tries To Secure Season 2 Renewal
Exclusive: When discussing the pending renewal decision on bubble freshman comedy La to Vegas, the network chairman Dana Walden this morning noted that series creator/exec producer Lon Zimmet and executive producer Steve Levitan are currently working on Season 2 ideas and that “if we can’t find a way to make noise, we won’t do (a second season)” of the Dylan McDermott series.

I hear one of the top ideas that is being considered to create buzz around La to Vegas‘s potential return is have series executive producer Will Ferrell appear in the Season 2 premiere.

Ferrell and McDermott previously starred together in the 2012 comedy feature The Campaign.

The move echoes Great News executive producer Tina Fey’s commitment to guest star in the opening Season 2 episodes, which last May helped secure the then-bubble midseason comedy a second-season renewal by NBC.

Dylan McDermott (‘La to Vegas’): Drunken, womanizing Captain Dave ‘is the guy I’ve been waiting for’ [Exclusive Video Interview]
When Dylan McDermott first read the role of Captain Dave in the Fox comedy “La to Vegas” he knew instantly that “this is the guy I’ve been waiting for.” McDermott, who did stand-up in New York and grew up admiring Peter Sellers, was “looking to do something different” from the heavy dramas that made him a star. “I love this absurd humor,” he reveals, “and Captain Dave obviously is absurd, so I was just completely attracted to him.” Dave is the drunken, womanizing pilot of a budget airline whose main flight is a weekend route from Los Angeles to Las Vegas. Watch our exclusive video interview with McDermott above.

I Kill Giants Interview: Madison Wolfe Discusses Her Most Challenging Role Yet

At only 15 years of age, Madison Wolfe already has a resume that demands admiration. The young actress got her start opposite Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis in The Campaign before joining such high profile projects as True Detective, Joy, Trumbo, and The Conjuring 2. Her latest sees her taking the lead as Barbara, a high school giant slayer, in Anders Walter’s feature film debut I Kill Giants, an adaptation of the graphic novels of the same name. I Kill Giants is a deeply compassionate coming-of-age fantasy that follows an imaginative young girl as she faces an all-too-harsh reality. Screen Anarchy was able to interview the film’s rapidly rising star. Screen Anarchy: How did you come to be part of I Kill Giants and what...

‘La to Vegas’ Review: Dylan McDermott Soars in a Fox Comedy With Elevated Potential

‘La to Vegas’ Review: Dylan McDermott Soars in a Fox Comedy With Elevated Potential
If TV shows are movies now, then give Dylan McDermott an Oscar for “La to Vegas.” Ok, Ok. Maybe that’s a little extreme. Even actual movies can’t win film’s most prestigious honor if they’re funny, so Mr. McDermott will have to settle for a Golden Globe — but it’ll be for film, dammit, since that’s clearly so much more important that television.

Overall, Fox’s new half-hour comedy set in the friendly skies between the City of Angels and the City of Sin shows signs of turbulence. Coming up with a season’s, let alone seasons’ worth of fresh material all set within a small, flying cylinder seems about as difficult as making Jerry Seinfeld’s airplane observations topical again. Even in its first three episodes, the series strains to integrate some of its cast members into the narrative — how many excuses can there be

Will Ferrell To Star In Adaptation Of ‘The 100-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out The Window And Disappeared’

Will Ferrell‘s filmography has been, more or less, stacked with his popular brand of outrageous, improv-style comedy. The classics are well-known (“Anchorman,” “Old School” “Step Brothers,” “Talladega Nights,” “Elf“) but duds have happened as well (“Semi-Pro,” “Land of the Lost,” “Bewitched,” “Casa De Mi Padre” “Get Hard,” “The Campaign“).

Will Ferrell Takes the Lead in The 100 Year-Old Man

Will Ferrell Takes the Lead in The 100 Year-Old Man
It's official. Will Ferrell is The 100 Year-Old Man. The improv icon will be starring in the comedy for CBS Films. The script for this hilarious caper will be based on author Jonas Jonasson's bestselling novel The 100 Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared. Not only is Ferrell set to play the lead, he'll also be producing the movie.

Will Ferrell is playing senior citizen Allan. The elderly man manages to escapes from his nursing home on his 100th birthday. While he goes on the run, it is revealed that Allan took part in several different defining events from the 20th Century. It's a lot like that little seen movie from 1994 called Forrest Gump. The movie was already made in Sweden. In that version, Allan had a fateful meeting with President Harry S. Truman. And he also had a memorable run-in with Robert Oppenheimer, the guy who created the atomic bomb.

Why ‘Despicable Me 3’ Dipped Below Box Office Expectations and ‘Baby Driver’ Exceeded Them

Why ‘Despicable Me 3’ Dipped Below Box Office Expectations and ‘Baby Driver’ Exceeded Them
Despicable Me 3” (Universal) at $75.4 million provided close to half of the Top Ten total of $161 million. That’s an impressive achievement. But the the latest Illumination animated offering came in considerably below the expected total of $90 million. And yet again the domestic total is out of step with strong international results.

On the other hand, Edgar Wright’s second-ranked “Baby Driver” (Sony) performed better than expected ($21 million for the weekend, $30 million since its Wednesday opening). Chalk up its initial success to comedy counterprogramming, strong reviews, and perhaps more than anything a desire for something different and not the safe, cookie-cutter formula core of most summer franchise releases.

For example, “The House” (Warner Bros.), a standard-issue Will Farrell/Amy Poehler studio comedy, ranked sixth with a tepid $9 million gross. It’s another mid-level flop.

“The Beguiled” (Focus) entered the Top Ten in still limited play, with “The Big Sick” (Lionsgate

‘The House’ Review: Will Ferrell and Amy Poehler’s Unfunny Comedy Is a Bizarre Endurance Test

‘The House’ Review: Will Ferrell and Amy Poehler’s Unfunny Comedy Is a Bizarre Endurance Test
Anyone who thinks the house always wins hasn’t seen “The House.” Not that anyone who goes to see this movie, ostensibly a comedy but in reality a bizarre endurance test, wins either — Will Ferrell and Amy Poehler’s latest is a zero-sum game in which the odds are never in your favor.

After learning that the scholarship that was going to send their daughter to college no longer exists, the happily married couple played by Ferrell and Poehler do what any caring parents would do: start an illegal casino in their friend’s (Jason Mantzoukas) house. That most of the patrons they aim to get rich off of are their neighbors and friends never seems to be an issue, nor is it the source of either comedy or tension.

Election Movies To Watch

– By We Are Movie Geeks Staff –

Our long election season is finally coming to an end, and all that remains is to vote. And watch an election-themed movie!

Going through the list of movies about elections, the Movie Geeks found a lot more negative than positive ones, and more movies about manipulative people behind the candidate than inspiring candidates. While there is a lot of biting social commentary and satire, there are a few light and silly election movies too. So top cap off election season, here are a dozen election and political movies.

Don’t forget to vote!

The Campaign

Jay Roach, director of the true story political HBO filmsRecount” and “Game Change”, goes for the big laughs in this farce about a lazy, scandal-ridden incumbent congressman Cam Brady (Will Ferrell) who faces off against a bumbling, naive altruistic Marty Huggins (Zach Galifianakis).
