With the Nintendo Switch dominating the gaming market, and more developers working to bring their older titles to new system, I thought I'd take a look at some of the best games from previous generations that I'd happily pay money to play on the Switch.
The success of Doom, Skyrim, La Noire, and a few others on the Switch has shown that fans have a strong desire to play some of their favorite Aaa games on the handheld hybrid. Personally speaking, I'm all for it. Since the launch of the Switch in March, it's quickly become the gaming system I use most (and now have the most games on) due to its ease of use.
Being portable means that any game, no matter its size, becomes pick-up-and-play at your leisure. For a parent with four kiddos (one an infant), this if pretty important. I've passed on more big game releases than I'd like to,...

[note: the write-up below only takes the theatrical cut of Donnie Darko into consideration. I have not seen the director’s cut nor read Kelley’s The Donnie Darko Book] When Kojima Hideo released Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater in 2004 (the eight installment in the popular video game franchise), the stakes were higher than attaining victory or suffering defeat. After all, as a prequel to all previous entries, set thirty years before the original Metal Gear, premature death meant tampering with the flow of fate. If you waited long enough before triggering a soft reset to restart the action, the ‘Game Over’-screen would morph into a ‘Time Paradox’-message to confront you with the impossible turn of events you had created. Having no knowledge of the...

The Director of Kong: Skull Island is reuniting with his writer to put together a feature film adaptation of Metal Gear Solid! More within!
Derek Connolly has kept himself busy since Steven Speilberg discovered him after Safety Not Guaranteed. Since then, he's been the man behind the words of many big budget films like Jurassic World, Kong: Skull Island, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, and even the upcoming 9th episode of Star Wars. Connolly is set to add one more to that list as Sony Pictures has announced that he will be penning the film adaptation of the renowned video game from Hideo Kojima, Metal Gear Solid.
Connolly will be reuniting with his Kong: Skull Island director, Jordan Vogt-Roberts, who is set to helm the film.
The duo will be looking to create a movie worthy of one of Kojima's masterpieces. Metal Gear Solid released in 1998 on the Playstation (1) and follows...

As if Metal Gear Survive didn't have enough of a hill to climb at launch, news has just dropped that it will require an internet connection to play. That includes for the single-player campaign, and while most people have an internet connection in their homes these days, one has to wonder Konami is using such an unpopular feature in their game?
This news comes on the heels of the announcement that the game won't release until 2018, so things are already looking bad for the follow up to Mgsv. To be fair, they looked pretty grim from the start considering this will be the companies first attempt at keeping the series alive in the wake of Hideo Kojima's absence.
While all this news seems bad, perhaps the worst news is that Konami is likely going to tank this franchise by the time this is all said and done, and another...

Konami has finally stepped out from their silent hills (haha) and provided us with a release date for Metal Gear Survive on PS4 and Xbox One. In the United States it will launch February 20 and in Europe it will be released February 22 2018.
Should you preorder, you will get the nifty Day 1 Survival Pack indicated above. This will treat you to the following:
Four gold-plated weapons (bat, sledgehammer, survival machete, and survival spear); Two gestures (happy and thumbs-up); Four survival scarves (green, blue, pink, and silver);Kabuki face paint; Mother Base nameplate; The Boxman [The Orange] accessory.
Last year, we were teased with one of the first trailers for Mg Survive, just before Konami informed us at E3 that the game was to be delayed until 2018. This is the first game to be produced since Hideo Kojima left Konami, and he made sure to poke fun at Mg Survive at a Tokyo Game Show last year.

This morning, Konami has revealed a release date (and pre-order bonuses) for their upcoming, Kojima-less, spin-off, Metal Gear Survive. Whether or not you're still interested is entirely up to you.
Since it's initial reveal back in August of last year, Metal Gear Survive has met with little more than scorn from fans. The very public and decidely petty actions on the part of Konami after splitting with Hideo Kojima has left fans sour on the company. With Metal Gear Survive putting the emphasis on team-based building/survival against zombie like enemies (rather than traditional Metal Gear gameplay and story), fans were less than thrilled.
Every trailer since hasn't exactly helped the feeling, but it does look less and less like a quick cash-in on the brand name and more like a game doing something unique and actually trying. Regardless, it's still going to be a tough sell for Metal Gear fans,...

It's Metal Gear with feathers: Untitled Goose Game puts you in control of a mischievous waterfowl...
Imagine the classic Metal Gear Solid, but set in a leafy British garden rather than a military installation. Now imagine that you're controlling a mischievous goose rather than a battle-hardened soldier. Then consider a scenario where said goose has to torment an unsuspecting and entirely undeserving groundskeeper.
Does that sound like a reasonable scenario to you? Then we suggest you have a cup of tea and a lie down. In fairness, indie developer House House has taken this unlikely tableau and turned it into one of the greatest game trailers we've ever seen.
In Untitled Goose Game, you're assigned a list of challenges, some obvious sounding (use stealth to sneak into the groundskeeper's garden), others more tricky (make the groundskeeper wear his sun hat). That the goose lacks arms makes some of these tasks particularly tough,...

October is upon us which means it’s time for spooks and scares, and video games are the perfect way to get that experience. Take a look at some games we hope make a return in the gaming world to, you know, make our editors wet their pants.
When we say return we are not talking about reboots, but rather a return to form. Some of these listed below have seen recent sequels, but they've strayed pretty far from the series' roots (or only launched on mobile platforms). Whether it's another sequel or spin-off, it'd be great to see these games return in the ways we remember them.
Fear
This is the game that provided the impetus for this article. Fear was a game that really sparked WB Games into making quality titles and becoming a major developer. This was their big game before Batman and we loved it. The...

John Carpenter's The Fog (1980) is playing from September 9 - October 8 and Escape from New York (1981) from September 10 - October 9, 2017 in the United States as part of the series John Carpenter's '80s.A golden pocket watch hangs on the right side of the movie’s frame like a broken pendulum, or maybe a man from the gallows. It sways gently, showing five minutes before midnight. With laconic eyes and the careful accentuation of a raconteur, Mr. Michen (John Houseman) recounts to a gaggle of kids the moribund story of the Elizabeth Dane, a clipper ship captained by a wealthy man named Blake who had leprosy, and who wanted to set up a leper colony in Northern California. The ship, beset by a sudden fog bank, sailed towards a campfire mistaken for a lighthouse and crashed into the rocks. None survived. The story, which has been passed down from grandfathers to fathers to sons,...

Hollywood has been trying to crack the code on video game movies for decades. As far back as the Super Mario Bros. Movie, they’ve had trouble in converting the gameplay-focused stories to the big screen. The closest we’ve had to success have arguably been Warcraft and the Resident Evil films, and even those couldn’t be called runaway hits.
However, if there’s one video game that could take the transition pretty well, it’s Metal Gear Solid. Ever since the PS1 game hit the console, it was quick to establish itself as an incredibly cinematic experience. This trend continued with Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of Patriots, and Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. With each entry, it became all the more obvious that producer Hideo Kojima was working to create cinematic experiences...

Despite having seen no shortage of video game to film adaptations within our lifetime, there have been some glaring omissions when it comes to top franchises that have yet to make their way to the silver screen. Being a huge fan of the stealth action genre, I can’t help but lament the developmental hell that both Metal Gear Solid and Splinter Cell have had to endure for what seems like an eternity. Now, I could probably complain about this all day, but at least we’re now seeing some movement when it comes to the former.
Granted, I’m still placing this in the “I’ll believe it when I see it” category, but director Jordan Vogt-Roberts can at least credit himself with starting off my day in a positive way. Having been attached to Solid Snake’s cinematic debut since 2014, it’s probably safe to say that he...

Director Jordan Vogt-Roberts thinks Hollywood blockbusters are in need of a major shakeup. Last year, he attended San Diego Comic-Con to premiere the very first footage of his film Kong: Skull Island, but when Den Of Geek Us sat down during Sdcc’s final days circa 2017, he now had much on his mind in the way of corporate appropriation of geek culture and how to maintain the credibility that made comics, video games, and their ilk such icons of counterculture in his youth. As we speak, however, he appears incredibly hopeful about genre cinema’s future, especially since he is inching ever closer to making his dream movie: a Metal Gear Solid film.
Indeed, when asked if he’d ever be interested in doing a superhero film, Vogt-Roberts expresses an openness to the idea,...

Having burst onto the scene with the indelible indie hit Kings of Summer, Jordan Vogt-Roberts now follows in the footsteps of the likes of Colin Trevorrow and Gareth Edwards in making the move into the realm of the blockbuster, helming Kong: Skull Island – and doing a rather good job at it. That being said, we couldn’t resist asking about the forthcoming Metal Gear Solid movie that Vogt-Roberts is developing, and fans of the video game franchise will be comforted to hear that the director is determined not to lose sight of what makes the games so incredibly popular.

In a recent interview, screenwriter David Hayter – a key component of Fox's early X-Men movie franchise – discusses some casting prospects that the original production considered in director Bryan Singer’s genre-defining 2000 original film.
See related Power Rangers, boob armour, and impractical costumes
Speaking with THR, Hayter looks back on the days of the X-Men film's gestation.
Hayter, a name video game connoisseurs will recognise as the perennial voice of Solid Snake in the Metal Gear series, wrote the screenplay to 2000’s X-Men, based on a story collaboration with Singer and Tom DeSanto, later tackling sequel X2: X-Men United and Zack Snyder’s Watchmen.

Believe it, or not, the Metal Gear Solid movie is still in production in Hollywood.
In an interview with
, director of the upcoming film, Jordan Vogt-Roberts, noted that the film is still in the works and that it is the most important project on his slate. He also noted that he has had several meetings with Hideo Kojima, the guy that has ran the franchise up until a recent debacle with Konami.
He noted that working with Kojima has "been a dream" and noted that it is amazing to work with him due to the fact that he has been behind the entire franchise, compared to several writers that have worked on a comic book series. This means all ideas and inspirations are coming from a single source which allows him to properly adjust his film for the fans.

Jordan Vogt-Roberts, on why he's so keen to get a Metal Gear Solid movie right...
The prospect of a Metal Gear Solid movie is both thrilling and a bit worrying. While the cinematic nature of the Metal Gear Solid series seems to make it the perfect candidate for an adaptation, the same has been said of many other adapted video games and most of them have turned out like...well, you've probably suffered through the results at some point.
There's one thing that the Metal Gear Solid film has that those other adaptations didn't, though, and that's director Jordan Vogt-Roberts. Along with being a promising director in his own right, Vogt-Roberts happens to be one a select few filmmakers who seem to appreciate the tremendous weight of the Metal Gear Solid name.

With the recent terrible adaptation of Assassin’s Creed, Hollywood proves that it still has not learned how to make a proper video game movie. As of right now, my two favorites are Silent Hill and Warcraft. I also have a soft spot for the first Resident Evil movie. But for the most part, the studios and filmmakers developing the majority of the video game films just never can get it right.
One video game property that I always thought would make a badass film is Metal Gear Solid. The film has been in development for years, and as of right now, all we know is that Kong: Skull Island director Jordan Vogt-Roberts is attached to direct, and the script is being written by Jay Basu. We haven’t had any updates on the film since 2015 with the announcement of the writer, but the director recently sat down with We...

Video game adaptations continue to be something of a dark spot in Hollywood. For years now, we’ve seen countless directors attempt to bring their favorite digital properties to life only to fail miserably. Last year, that trend continued with both Warcraft and Asssassin’s Creed, and despite the genre’s horrid track record, it doesn’t look like filmmakers will quit trying to nail the tricky beast that is a video game movie anytime soon.
One project that’s currently got a lot of people curious is Metal Gear Solid. Given that some of the entries in the series are basically like films themselves, as they feature excessively long cutscenes and plots so complicated that very few people can claim to fully understand and follow everything, it was really only a matter of time before someone tried to bring the iconic franchise onto the big screen, and that someone...

Even though I played through it just a couple of months ago, on the newly released PS4 Pro, it’s easy to forget that Sniper Elite III was a cross-generational title, appearing on both Sony and Microsoft’s older and newer consoles. This isn’t inherently a bad thing, but as I reflect upon my time with it, it becomes more clear that the game does suffer from having cater to older, noticeably weaker hardware. That’s not the case with Sniper Elite 4, however. Built exclusively for current-gen consoles (and PC, of course), Rebellion Developments has clearly listened to the fans and critics and has taken it upon themselves to fix many of the shortcomings with their previous title, making Sniper Elite 4 infinitely more enjoyable in the process.

In what is fast becoming something of a signature jibe, Guillermo del Toro took to Twitter over the festive period to say “f**k Konami” with regards to the company’s handling of both Hideo Kojima and the canned Silent Hills reboot.
It’s by no means the first time that the illustrious Hollywood filmmaker has expressed his contempt for Konami, after labelling the company’s decision to scrap Silent Hills “one of the most moronic things” he’s ever witnessed. Now, del Toro holds a role in Death Stranding, the upcoming PS4 exclusive in development at Kojima Productions. Little is known about the nebulous project nor the extent of del Toro’s involvement in it, but after unveiling two bat-shit insane trailers, it’s fair to say that Hideo Kojima and his team have piqued the industry’s curiosity – and then some.

Kill Ratio is a poorly conceived Die Hard power fantasy that at moments finds itself looking fine, and being hilariously ridiculous. Seriously, if you want to see a Russian coup happen in a hotel that ends with an unbelievably apathetic hero fighting an old man with a sword, well then this movie is in fact for you, but Kill Ratio is too bland to be for anyone else.
Have you heard this story? A violent series of events has put a president (oddly not American in how nationalistic this movie is) in danger and it’s up to one man to fight his way through a couple of armed violent henchmen to save the president. So it’s Die Hard, Olympus Has Fallen, and White House Down, and it’s nowhere near as entertaining as two of those happen to be.
The problem is mainly with the protagonist,...

Who’s ready for the fifth installment of the Transformers movie franchise? Okay whether you are or not the trailer is here and ready to view.
Ah yes that time every two to three years when I watch a trailer for Transformers and try to forget whatever thoughts I had on the last one in hopes of a brighter future. And as the official Cinelinx expert on all things giant robot and Super Sentai/ Power Rangers related it’s my duty to report on this. Here we go, let’s watch.
Anthony Hopkins raises a question I’ve been asking since the third film: Why the hell is everything Cybertron related on Earth? We see a few shots of Megatron, too many of Mark Wahlberg, and a few new bots. But wait, Optimus went bad? What! I guess this is relating back to that poster where we saw his eyes were actually purple.

Today marks the 15th anniversary of the GameCube's North American launch and while many gamers still feel the tiny console marked the beginning of the end for Nintendo's dominancy, it did give us some great titles worthy of remastered versions for the new generation.
It's hard to believe that it's been 15 years since Nintendo brought out the GameCube to compete with the PS2 and Microsoft's new-fangled machine, the Xbox. Despite it's size, the house of Mario managed to pack in quite a bit of power in the machine, giving us some great games along the way, though the quantity of them seemed to be lacking...
These days, HD remasters from previous generation titles are not uncommon. Hell, Kingdom Hearts has been remastered for Two generations at this point, and fans are gobbling them up. Nintendo has been slower in this area, however, giving us updated versions of some Zelda titles,...

What a difference a year makes. Last December, Hideo Kojima was supposed to be in attendance at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on behalf of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, which was up for the accolade of Best Action/Adventure game of 2015. However, due to Kojima’s much-touted departure from Konami, the esteemed developer was unable to attend due to contractual obligations, leaving Kiefer Sutherland to collect the award on his behalf.
The exact details of Hideo Kojima’s no-show remain firmly under wraps – something that can also be said for his messy exit from Konami – but with The Game Awards 2016, the Metal Gear founding father will get his moment. As confirmed by long-time host Geoff Keighley, come December 1, Hideo Kojima will pick up the coveted Industry Icon award.

Hideo Kojima, who spent nearly three decades fostering the “Metal Gear” video game franchise before parting ways with publisher Konami last year, will be honored at the 2016 edition of The Game Awards on Dec. 1. In 2015, Kojima’s “Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain” won Best Action/Adventure Game, but the award was accepted on his behalf by the game’s star, Kiefer Sutherland. Game Awards host and producer Geoff Keighley said during the show that Kojima’s absence was due to “Metal Gear” publisher Konami ordering him not to attend. Though Kojima has not released a game in 2016 that would.

Typically, when Halloween swings around everyone wants you to play games that scare your pants off from beginning to end. The criteria for this list was very basic. What games provide a spooky atmosphere, or scare, without basing the entire game on the horror genre? The one rule is the game simply can’t be a horror title (example Resident Evil), but provide a sense of fear that you could enjoy on this great holiday. So here are our top 5 “scares” that you should play this Halloween.
Batman Arkham Asylum – Scarecrow
This one seems all too perfect considering the remaster versions of the last generation games just released, and we loved them.

Hideo Kojima, a developer often cited as the founding father of the Metal Gear franchise at Konami, was in town for Tokyo Game Show 2016 last week to promote his new creative venture, Death Stranding.
A PS4 exclusive hailing from the newly-independent Kojima Productions, it was here that Kojima-san revealed some piecemeal details regarding the embryonic title, which we now know will incorporate online elements into an open-world setting. Towards the end of the showcase, the topic of Metal Gear Survive, the first entry into Konami’s stealth juggernaut following Kojima’s departure, came to the fore.
As relayed by IGN, the esteemed game designer stated simply, “that’s nothing to do with me” before going on to question Survive‘s use of the undead.
“The Metal Gear games are about political fiction and espionage. Where do zombies fit in with that? If I had worked on that game, it would have mechs in it.

Hideo Kojima distances himself from Konami's spin-off, Metal Gear Survive and its zombie-focused action...
Series creator Hideo Kojima may have left Konami after almost 30 years of service, but the Japanese firm has no intention of letting the Metal Gear brand fade into history. At the Tokyo Game Show, Konami showed off a chunk of its current work in progress, the Phantom Pain spin-off Metal Gear Survive. It sees a quartet of elite soldiers sucked into an alternate dimension, where they have to use their skills of stealth, infiltration and shooting things with guns to hold out against an army of zombies.
Built using Metal Gear Solid V's Fox engine, Survive looks like a solid multiplayer action game, though some series fans may wonder what the shuffling undead have to do with Kojima's celebrated stealth series. Kojima was also at Tgs, and wondering exactly the same thing.

Konami also makes reference to the inclusion of additional Mother Base currency in their announcement, which seems to indicate that Definitive Experience players will be rewarded additional in-game funds rather than a new form of currency entirely.

Metal Gear Solid V The Definitive Edition is now official and it doesn't include anything you dreamed of.
A short while ago we had a leak on Amazon that a "definitive edition" of Metal Gear Solid V (Mgsv), was going to release. Turns out the leak was true, again, but all the stuff we hoped for is not included.
What you do get in the package is both Mgs Ground Zeroes and Mgs: The Phantom Pain. Thus the reason it is titled Mgsv Definitive Edition and doesn't utilize one of the subtitles. Along with the game you will get all the Dlc that has released. The game will retail for $49.99 on PS4, Steam, and Xbox One.
Below is all the content that is included in case you didn't know Mgsv even had Dlc.
Our take.... this is disapointing to say the very least. We had high hopes that a re-release...

Konami has announced Metal Gear Solid V: The Definitive Experience for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC, a compilation package that includes both Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain, as well as a generous helping of Dlc.
Officially revealed via the publisher’s website, the release date for all platforms is pegged for October 13 this year and, along with offering a sizeable amount of single-player content with both titles, The Phantom Pain’s multiplayer element Metal Gear Online will also be included.
All three components of the so-called Definitive Experience will come with all Dlc released as part of special pre-order bonuses or direct add-ons in the past, including the likes of additional missions for Ground Zeroes and an armory’s worth of weapons, costumes and crafting items for the Phantom Pain and Metal Gear Online.

News hit the internet yesterday that a new Metal Gear was on the way, and no one really saw this coming. While many expected Konami to continue the franchise without Kojima, nobody expected it so quickly. Despite the surprise factor and franchise name, the game is missing the mark with fans, but perhaps that was their plan all along?
When Konami said they were going to continue the Metal Gear franchise, there were many routes they could have taken. They could “finish” Mgsv with the missing chapters, which was hinted for an upcoming re-release that was leaked. Another possibility was simply revamping the old games with the new engine (something Konami was already doing for their casino machines), or they could continue the series and see where a new creative director would take the franchise.
No matter how you spin it, people were going to keep their eyes on it.

It was almost a forgone conclusion that Konami would look to pick up the Metal Gear mantle long after Hideo Kojima left the Japanese publisher under questionable circumstances.
Kojima was, after all, the founding father behind the stealth juggernaut, overseeing a military story of intrigue, collusion and supernatural bosses that spanned three decades. But, where does the series go from here? Into another dimension, it seems, with the release of Metal Gear Survive.
On the heels of yesterday’s bonkers first trailer, Konami has now premiered a series of stills for the co-op based stealth title, which whisks Mother Base and its legions of Militaires Sans Frontières soldiers into another dimension teeming with zombies.
It’s fairly radical departure for a series defined on tactical espionage action, but during an interview with Eurogamer, Konami Brand Manager Richard Jones outlined the ways in which Survive retains many of the franchise’s tropes.

Konami is continuing the Metal Gear brand without its creator, Hideo Kojima, with the reveal of their new project Metal Gear Survive. Check out the trailer and learn more about the co-op game.
The trailer comes courtesy of IGN. Metal Gear Survive is exactly what the title suggests, a survival game. Taking place after the events from Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes, you're sucked into a hellish alternate dimension with nightmarish enemies hellbent on ending your life. You must team up with other survivors to stop the hoard and find a way back.
As with any Metal Gear game, stealth will still be an important factor in the game. This won't your normal run-of-the-mill zombie survival game, where you shoot first and ask questions later. Konami is hoping that players will be able to coordinate with the other online teammates, with you, to survive. There are also reports of...
