By the mid-2010s, Daymé Arocena had become a household name in her native Havana. She’d been called “the world’s next jazz phenomenon,” and her work with the Cuban-Canadian jazz band Maqueque helped win a 2015 Juno Award. When she’d walk down the street, people would stop her, recognizing her as the singer with the powerful, heart-atomizing voice. At restaurants, fans would come up to her and greet her enthusiastically. “I’d built a reputation there,” she remembers. “But I started to feel like I’d hit a ceiling in Cuba.

Sorry About Your Wife, Reuben: Filmmaker John Hamburg Looks Back on 20 Years with ‘Along Came Polly’
It’s been 20 years since senior Model Un delegate Polly Prince wandered back into the life of unlucky-in-love insurance adjuster Reuben Feffer.
Jennifer Aniston charmed the pants off Ben Stiller’s persnickety everyman as the chaotically seductive title character in “Along Came Polly”: filmmaker John Hamburg’s raunchy odd coupling about a New Yorker who catches his wife (a perfectly loath-able Debra Messing) cheating on him with a scuba instructor (a hysterical and jacked Hank Azaria) during their tropical honeymoon. Back in the city, with the misguided help of his friend and former child star Sandy Lyle (the late Philip Seymour Hoffman at his funniest), Reuben runs into blast from the past Polly, who may or may not be the real love of his life, just two weeks later.

Last week, shockingly no one was eliminated from “Dancing with the Stars,” for the first time ever leaving five finalists to compete for the Len Goodman Mirror Ball Trophy: actress Xochitl Gomez, actress Alyson Hannigan, “The Bachelorette” alum Charity Lawson, “Vanderpump Rules” star Ariana Madix and singer-songwriter Jason Mraz. So what happens when those five perform their last two competitive routines on “Finale” night? Scroll down for our live blog with all the minute-by-minute developments and commentary as the night progresses.

The “Dancing with the Stars” Season 32 finale is the show’s biggest one yet. Not only are five couples vying for the Len Goodman Mirrorball Trophy for the first time, but the episode will be three hours long. That’s a whole “Oppenheimer,” but just shy of a full “Killers of the Flower Moon.”
The five couples will perform two routines on Tuesday: a redemption dance and the always anticipated freestyle. Jason Mraz will perform three times as he’ll also croon his tune (and Week 1 song) “I Feel Like Dancing” while the tour pros hit the hardwood in a routine choreographed by Mandy Moore.
To fill out the 180 minutes, the finale will also feature all Season 32 couples performing to “Young Hearts Run Free” by Candi Staton and a holiday routine set to Mariah Carey‘s “Santa Claus Is Coming to Town” featuring the song and dance styles of Alfonso Ribeiro,...

If you're Dominican and were alive during the 1980s and '90s, chances are Juan Luis Guerra's hits became the soundtrack of your life. They'd play at every family function, during long car rides, or at the beach, and he was likely your mami's favorite artist to blast during her Saturday morning cleaning rituals. Throughout his prolific and four-decade career, Guerra has not only reinvented the tropical rhythms of his native Dominican Republic alongside his band 4.40, but he's also reached audiences way beyond just the Dominican community. With 30 million-plus albums sold around the world and more than 20 Latin Grammy wins, Guerra has become a legend in the Latin music space and not just for his poetic lyrics - he's often referred to as the Pablo Neruda of merengue and bachata - but also for never being afraid to innovate or color outside of the lines of what "Dominican music" is supposed to sound like.

I thought for sure Barry Williams would survive elimination on “Dancing with the Stars” after his two gutsy performances on “Whitney Houston Night.” The 69-year-old “Brady Bunch” actor performed a rumba with pro partner Peta Murgatroyd and then went bare-chested for his salsa in a dance-off against musician Jason Mraz. But despite winning that dance-off in an upset and thus moving up a spot on the judges’ leaderboard, his viewer votes weren’t enough to keep him in the competition. Watch his salsa above, and scroll down to see his rumba.

Barry Williams isn’t going home with the Len Goodman Mirror Ball trophy now that he and pro dance partner Peta Murgatroyd have been eliminated from Season 32 of Dancing With the Stars. However, he’s headed back to Branson, Missouri with something even better – the knowledge he’s entertained millions of DWTS fans and proven that guys in their 60s can still go shirtless! The Brady Bunch star not only increased his scores from last week, earning a 32 for his and Murgatroyd’s rumba, but the pair also picked up an additional three points for impressing the judges in a salsa dance off against Jason Mraz and his pro partner Daniella Karagach. Judge Derek Hough, who’s touring across the country with his dance show Derek Hough A Symphony of Dance, has said that Williams is the most popular contestant this season. “That made me feel great,” Williams told TV Insider after the show.

By now, we’ve sen Don Omar do a little bit of everything: salsa, cumbia, kuduro, danzon. But he’s always at the top of his game when he brings fans back to his old-school reggaeton days and reminds them why he’s still the Don of the genre.
His new song, “Sandunga” is no exception. The historic collaboration sees Don Omar unite reggaeton heavyweights Wisin Y Yandel and the legendary producer Luny Tunes. It’s not the first time they’ve worked together, and their connection is apparent in the song’s full-throttle sound.

“Hollywood is mourning the loss of two of its own today,” the radio newscaster announced 30 years ago. My ears perked up, perhaps a bit more than the average listener’s would. “Federico Fellini,” he continued, “is dead at the age of 73.”
“Ah, well,” I thought. “He’s been ill for some time.”
“And in Los Angeles,” the newscaster said, “actor River Phoenix…” A sudden rush of adrenaline made my heart race and I felt as if I’d been punched in the stomach.
Five years earlier, I had spent the afternoon of River’s 18th birthday with him. At the time, I was working on a daily radio network program where I chatted with stars of new movies. Of the hundreds of actors I’ve interviewed, River easily made it to my personal “Top 10 Favorites” list.

Ra ta ta, tá tá. The sound of the clave plays across Brooklyn on a windy Friday night in September. The crowd moves closer to the stage, singing the salsa anthem in unison: “Oigan mi gente / Los más grande de este mundo / Siempre me hacen sentir / Un orgullo profundo / Los llamé.” Everyone cheers at the end of the song,...

For a small island, Puerto Rico has an outsized musical footprint. From salsa to hip-hop to reggaeton, for decades the Caribbean nation and the diaspora have contributed to birthing genres that have gone on to sweep the globe. With that international success has also come certain formulas for repeating it. On his debut EP, "Road 2 Neverland," Pink Pablo eschews all of them in favor of a sound that breaks from the confines of the established mainstream. Instead, it favors something a little freer. And over the course of six tracks, he finds it.
The introductory track, "Neverland," opens with blaring synths before morphing into a futuristic, funky disco beat that underscores Pablo's light harmonizing. The beat changes up again whenever his rapping takes over, this time going rock with heavy cymbals and kick drums accentuating the artist's more exaggerated delivery. It's a fun track that raises the energy level right...

Derek Hough thought his friendship with Jennifer Lopez was over after he accidentally did something to her that could have ended really badly.

“There’s been times when it hasn’t gone right,” Derek said. “There was one time I went salsa dancing with Jennifer Lopez. We’re dancing, and we’re having a good night, we’re sweating, the live band’s playing, it’s steamy, it’s going great. I dip her and I step on her hair, and I pull her back up,...

A legend continues to make history. Celia Cruz — the late Afro-Latina salsa legend — is set to become one of five American Women Quarters Program honorees to be featured on the U.S. quarter next year.
Days ago, the United States Mint revealed the design of the new quarter, which captures the singer’s “dazzling smile while performing in a rumba style dress.” It also features her signature catchphrase, “Azucar!”
“Celia Cruz was a Cuban-American singer, cultural icon, and one of the most popular #Latin artists of the 20th century,” the Mint tweeted Friday.

Kandi Burruss can’t escape the good news — the Grammy-winning singer-songwriter is having the best week ever: She scored an Emmy nomination on Monday and earned a Tony nod on Tuesday, while the 15th season of The Real Housewives of Atlanta returns Sunday.
“I’m overjoyed right now. This is kind of unbelievable,” Burruss told The Hollywood Reporter. “You know how you’ve been speaking things into existence in your life and praying for it and doing all that. But when it actually starts happening in a major way, you’re almost like, ‘Whoa, is this happening?’”
“To have the two nominations happening back-to-back within 24 hours — it was just unbelievable,” she continued.
Burruss, a member of the platinum-selling R&b group Xscape, won the best R&b song Grammy Award in 2000 for co-writing TLC’s pop culture hit “No Scrubs.” As a producer, she’s getting closer to Egot status:...

Bad Bunny made history on Friday as the first Latino to headline Coachella — and he met the milestone with a nearly two-hour performance that was full of special interludes, surprise guests, and even some sound mishaps. His set took place on one of the largest stages Coachella has ever built, which allowed the Puerto Rican superstar to interact with the crowd from entirely different sides of the festival grounds. In between, he brought out artists and urbano luminaries, among them.

Dancing with the Stars began its 31st season Monday in the most peculiar manner: by asking viewers to click a watch button on Disney+ at exactly 5 p.m./8 p.m. “Tune” in any earlier and you’ll get a reminder — No, it’s at 8 p.m. Et, pal! Come back when it’s time. This is the new reality for dance fans accustomed to watching their favorite competition show that used to be on ABC.
Otherwise, the live, two-hour episode of DWTS began just like it used to, with a big opening number, an enthusiastic (but casually dressed) studio audience and a grand entrance by host Tyra Banks. A few updates were still made to the aging franchise: DWTS veteran Conrad Green is back as the executive producer and Season 19 Champion Alfonso Ribiero is now offering some much-needed help with the hosting duties by lobbing...
