We’ve seen quite a few future Batman baddies make their way to Gotham so far this season, from mob-based foes like Carmine Falcone, Sal Maroni, and Oswald Cobblepot, to the more street-level villains like Catwoman, Poison Ivy, Victor Zsasz, Hush, and even an early iteration of Black Mask. More are on the way, of course, including Harvey Dent, Scarecrow, and Mr. Freeze. What the show lacks so far, however, are glimpses at future Batman allies, which may be about to change.
Series star Ben McKenzie, who plays Detective Jim Gordon, recently spoke with The Daily Beast, and when asked about what new characters may be coming to Gotham, said the following:
“The Graysons may appear this season. I’m not 100 percent sure yet, but I think so.”
He’s referring, of course, to the family of Dick Grayson, the future Robin. Dick’s origin story strongly parallels that of...

Gotham, Season 1, Episode 8: ‘The Mask’
Written by Paul Edwards
Directed by John Stephens
Airs Mondays at 8pm Et on Fox
The season enters a new arc on Gotham as the fallout of last week’s episode, “Penguin’s Umbrella”, begins to take effect. Gordon tried to take down Falcone and failed, but managed to set an example of what a good cop is capable of and also shed a light on how inactive the Gotham City Police Department is, as none of his colleagues came to aid Gordon against Victor Zsasz. This brings out some interesting development between Gordon and Captain Sarah Essen, who regrets not braving the storm with him. The example that he has set has also affected Bullock, who’s now on Team Gordon, which is a highlight of the episode, in particular when Bullock gives a rallying speech to the Gcpd.

After last week’s great episode of Gotham, the Batman prequel drama continues to step it up in this week’s episode as it introduced a young Hush and the father of the Black Mask from the DC Universe. To begin with, I want to focus on everything that was about Bruce Wayne this week because this was an incredible episode for his character. David Mazouz continues to blow my mind away in his growing acting and even though I wasn’t onboard with having a 12-year old Bruce part of the show, when the project was first announced, I love that he is a part of Gotham. We see him finally go back to school because you know, that’s what kids do because I was starting to think what the situation was with that for him. He is obviously struggling because how do you go back to living a normal life when…...

Fox's Batman prequel series "Gotham" is continuing to incorporate characters from the comics mythology into its narrative. Last night came an episode which saw this show's early interpretation of the comics villain Black Mask, who has also scored a name change from Roman Sionis to Richard Sionis.
Now, the network has posted a sneak peek clip from next week's new episode which gives us a first look at Nicholas D'Agosto as Harvey Dent having his first meeting with Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie). The story deals with Dent and Gordon trying to close the Wayne murder case.
In other "Gotham" news, McKenzie tells The Daily Beast that Dick Grayson and his parents, aka. the trapeze artist family The Flying Graysons, may make an appearance this season. McKenzie says: "The Graysons may appear this season. I'm not 100 percent sure yet, but I think so."...

Gotham appears to be arranging its pieces on the board for a big confrontation. Here's Rob's review of this week's episode...

1.8 The Mask
Holy job interview fight club, Batman! This week’s Gotham episode certainly had a lot of character-based material to enjoy, but failed to live up to the heady heights of last Monday’s Penguin’s Umbrella on several other levels.
We all wear masks, metaphorically speaking, and that was the running theme throughout this week’s episode. ‘Who’s hiding behind what mask, and whose mask is beginning to fall?’ we were asked to consider, with some interesting results.
We dug a little deeper into Ben McKenzie’s Jim Gordon this week, with his years in the army and his lust for justice leading to some delicate prodding around basic hero-analysing questions: Is Jim a good man, or a killer? Is the good...

Ah, the white collar world. An endless array of identical suits and identical ties and identical jobs; people who make phone calls, clack away on keyboards, and whose job descriptions all involve something vaguely financial. But just under the surface is a simmering vat of violent tendencies, bursting forth in an underground society where people beat the hell out of each other on a regular basis. This of course, would be Fight Club. Also, Gotham. At least for about an hour last night. The police procedural chunk of this week’s Gotham (titled “The Mask”) was it’s own little mini-Fight Club. White collar schmucks in suits and suspenders, bashing on each other with office supplies. Until one of them ends up dead in a trash heap, thus attracting the attention of Gordon and Bullock. Well, technically it’s not quite Fight Club; instead of fighting to relieve the pent-up frustration of modern living, these...

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: Gotham shines most when diving headfirst into compelling mobster-driven stories, and while we got a taste of that with this week’s episode, “The Mask,” things don’t quite work as well as they did last week. Instead, the mob stuff is juxtaposed against another “villain of the week” subplot, which in turn feels like someone took Fight Club and injected it with a healthy dose of The Wolf of Wall Street. Which, in turn, was entertaining, but offered little to the larger narrative arcs or character development.
Gotham is, undoubtedly, improving in many ways. The characters feel more natural and defined, the storylines are more interesting, the villains are less hammy (except, of course, for the resident weirdo, Edward Nygma), the tone is more consistent, and there’s a palpable momentum that propels the episode along nicely. However,...

Black Mask Studios is adapting Godkiller into an animated trilogy.
The publisher is financing the big screen adaptation of the series, by Matt Pizzolo, Anna Muckcracker Wieszczyk and Ben Templesmith, reports Deadline.
The comic follows the journey of an orphaned adolescent and escaped slave across a blasted wasteland.
Black Mask will finance and produce the project, which expands the experimental 2010 film Godkiller: Walk Among Us, which starred Lance Henriksen, AFI's Davey Havok, Danielle Harris, Bill Moseley and Lydia Lunch.
To follow Walk Among Us, Pizzolo will write and direct Godkiller: Tomorrow's Ashes in 2016 and Godkiller: The Trouble You Took From Her Eyes in 2017.
He is one of the founders of Black Mask alongside Steve Niles and Bad Religion's Brett Gurewitz.
Godkiller launched as a self-published, underground title in 2008 and was subsequently picked up by Black Mask.

Exclusive: Godkiller, the post-apocalyptic comic series from Black Mask Studios, is hurtling toward the screen as a new trilogy of animated features that will be self-financed and produced by the upstart publisher and transmedia co. The saga of a teenage orphan and an escaped slavegirl journeying through a post-apocalyptic wasteland first debuted in 2008 as a self-published underground comic that cultivated a devoted cult following. The comic is now heading into its second printing after debuting last week via Black Mask Studios.
The Godkiller films are being directed and scripted by Matt Pizzolo, who co-created the comic with Anna Muckcracker Wieszczyk and Ben Templesmith. Back in 2010 Pizzolo’s Halo-8 shingle put out an experimental illustrated feature titled Godkiller: Walk Among Us that debuted digitally and on home vid featuring the voices of Lance Henriksen, AFI’s Davey Havok, Danielle Harris, Bill Moseley, and Lydia Lunch.

Obviously this version of Harvey Dent is quite a bit older than Bruce Wayne in the show, so clearly they won't be depicted as being school friends. But, could Dent be this "new friend" that Bruce meets when he returns to school? It's unclear why an assistant Da would be hanging around a school, (my guess is he's visiting Bruce because he knew his parents) but it would serve the purpose of forming a connection between he and Bruce for later down the line at least. Of course, that friend may not be Dent at all, but it seems strange that such a major new character from Batman lore wouldn't be mentioned anywhere else in the synopsis. Also, could the guy running the fight club be "The Mask" of the title? And could that Mask actually be Black Mask? Okay, bit of s stretch, but ya never know! Gordon And...

We've got a great set of concept art for the cancelled sequel to the video game Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate. The concept art shows us a very cool scene in which Bane kicks Batman's ass.
In the first game there is a mysterious explosion at Blackgate Prison that allows Joker, Penguin, and Black Mask to gather enough henchmen in order to take over their own section of the prison. Batman moves in to investigate and learns that there is more to it than your average uprising. He has is work cut out for him.
The cut scenes in the game looked like hand drawn comics, which is basically the same style they were going with here. The art was created by Calum Alexander Watt, and I came across it over on XombieDirge. ...

Tonight, just about every fan of Batman and the Dark Knight trilogy will tune into Fox’s Gotham, a prequel of sorts that will never involve Bruce Wayne actually donning the famed cape and cowl.
Yes, Bruce is in the mix. Like all Batman stories, it begins with the murder of Bruce’s parents, Thomas and Martha Wayne. However, unlike every Batman story you’ve ever heard, this one doesn’t jump forward years into the future to explore Bruce’s rigorous martial arts training and detective studies. Rather, it sits right there on the Wayne murders to examine the city that will one day be so corrupt that it needs a Batman to save it.
What does that mean?
Well, let’s take a step back. Ostensibly, the series focuses on Detective James Gordon (Ben McKenzie) and...

Ballistic #5 (Black Mask): It’s over. Sniffle. But Adam Egypt Mortimer and Darick Robertson’s Ballistic goes out with multiple bangs, as Gennie morphs into a new super-being, Butch and his Gun ride a skeletal catbus, and our ultimate villain is actually a conglomeration of many heads (gene sequences, natch). The most satisfying bit is that the cast and the comic itself both acknowledge that the talking gun has become the star—who can resist lines like “I have the urge to go fullmetal flamethrower!”—by giving it the autonomy to pull its own trigger and explode the face of a villain without Butch’s help. You go, Gun. This collected mini-series is going to likewise blow the heads off of everyone who thinks they know what science fiction is. 10/10

(Cbr) Jackie Chan’s upcoming historical epic "Dragon Blade" has enlisted some A-list Hollywood talent. According to The Hollywood Reporter, John Cusack and Adrien Brody are on board to play Roman soldiers in ancient China. The website notes that, at $65 million, this will be the highest-budget Chinese-language film of all time. Inspired by historical events, the film finds Cusack playing a Roman general named Lucius, who leads 1,000 of his soldiers into China during the Han dynasty. Brody’s Tiberius has 100,000 men on Lucius’ trail. Chan plays Huo An, who teams up with Lucius to defend against Tiberius’ advances. The film is directed by Daniel Lee, whose better-known films stateside are probably "Black Mask" and "Three Kingdoms: Resurrection of the Dragon." While "Dragon Blade" doesn’t have a set U.S. release date, the film will debut in China on Feb. 19, otherwise known as Chinese Lunar New Year’s Day, a...

The Legend of Drunken Master (aka Drunken Master II)
Written by Eric Tsang, Edward Tang and Barbie Tung
Directed by Lau Kar-leung

Unofficially a sequel to the 1978 hit Drunken Master, The Legend of Drunken Master (the original Cantonese title being Drunken Master II even though the film does not follow up on the storyline of the first one) opens in mainland China at the turn of the 20th century. Wong Fei Hung (Jackie Chan), one of the great proponents of the misunderstood drunken boxing, returns home via train with his renowned doctor father Wong Kei Ying (Ti Lung) and family servant (Cheung Chi-Gwong). Whilst trying to smuggle himself into the first-class compartment, Fei Hung notices a man, a former army colonel named Master Fu Wen-Chi (director Lau Kar-leung), stealing a precious box, prompting Fei Hung to give chase. Normally on a J.J. Abrams project, and many film projects for that matter, the working title during the film's production will be something silly or entirely unrelated to the actual production. For example, The Dark Knight was known as Rory's First Kiss, The Avengers was known as Group Hug, Cloverfield as Cheese (among many other things), Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho was Wimpy, Quentin Tarantino's Pulp Fiction was Black Mask and Clint Eastwood's Unforgiven was known as The Cut-Whore Killings. Hell, even Star Wars: Episode IV - Return of the Jedi was known as Blue Harvest. Now a rumored working title for Star Wars: Episode VII has surfaced over at AICN and it seems more like a possible real title rather than just a working title, that being Star Wars: Episode VII - The Ancient Fear. The site's source adds speculation that the title refers to Max von Sydow...

It’s a science fiction Golden Age in comic books right now, and one of the most unique titles has certainly been Charles Soule and Alberto Jiménez Albuquerque’s Letter 44. Like last year’s fantastic indie film Europa Report, Letter 44 is tied closely enough to the real world—and real science—that it’s not difficult to imagine it happening as a result of politics and experimental space exploration. And it seems that the SyFy channel, while certainly a fan of schlocky monster movies, can also appreciate the gravity of finding new life in space, as publisher Oni Press has recently announced the channel’s upcoming adaptation of Letter 44 for television.
Here’s the press release, including a short plot summary:
Portland, Or (April 30, 2014) – Oni Press is thrilled to announce that Charles Soule and Alberto Jiménez Alburquerque’s hit ongoing series Letter 44 has been picked up for development for television by SyFy!

And boy does it deliver!! Going NoWhere Productions tries it's hand at giving Slade Wilson the portrayal it deserves. Given the recent exposure that Deathstroke has been receiving due to the appearences on the Arrow TV series (Manu Bennett's portrayal of the character doesnt hurt either), his popularity has been on the rise. Already counting with a very solid fanbase this sure makes it possible that the rumor of a Deathstroke film being in the works might just come true. In the meantime, the people at Going Nowhere Productions have made this small fan-film to hold us until the film becomes a reality, or at least until the next Arrow episode airs!! Taking place prior to the events in "Batman: Arkham Origins"... A bounty is placed on Batman by crime lord Black Mask, drawing eight of the world's greatest assassins to Gotham City on Christmas Eve... The most formidable of which is Deathstroke,...

Last week we showed you a trailer for a fan-made short film called "Deathstroke: Arkham Assassin." The full short is now available online to watch, and it is actually really cool. It was directed by Chris White and Larry White and is action-packed. It basically features Deathstroke enjoying a violent and bloody little killing spree. I also have to say that I love the look of Deathstroke in this thing. That costume is badass.
The story takes place prior to the events in Batman: Arkham Origins, when "a bounty is placed on Batman by crime lord Black Mask, drawing eight of the world's greatest assassins to Gotham City on Christmas Eve... The most formidable of which is Deathstroke, who provides a bloody and violent demonstration of his skills for Black Mask."...

It’s become a growing practice to create a special edition of popular new releases specifically for Sony and Nintendo’s handhelds, more suited to the system’s differing strengths. When Batman: Arkham Origins was released recently, both systems got their own side adventure, obliquely connected to the main game, but unique in features and content. Thanks to the popularity of the series, the handheld game has been expanded and made available for all major systems, console and handheld.
Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate Deluxe Edition is set three months after the events of Arkham Origins. An explosion at Blackgate prison results in a chaotic takeover of the facility, headed by The Penguin and Black Mask. Things get more serious when it’s learned that the Joker has also joined the incarcerated internecine warfare. The game has some limited free play options – you can battle the three bosses and their associated campaigns in any order,...

All I can conclude is that James Gordon attended police academy with Steve Guttenberg. That’s the only explanation I can come up with for what he did in Detective Comics #25.
Detective Comics #25 is set during Batman: Year Zero which, despite that title means the story takes place during Batman’s first year, not his zeroth year. At this time, James Gordon wasn’t Commissioner of the G.C.P.D. yet, just a recent transfer from Chicago who found himself in a city overrun by mobsters and crooked cops paid to look the other way while the mobsters mobbed. Gordon wanted to take down both the mobsters and the corrupt cops, starting with Roman Sionis, who Gordon suspected was the secret head behind the Black Mask gang. So what Gordon did was…
Oh, wait. Spoiler Warning! Leaving your milk out will spoil the milk. Reading this column will spoil...

Black Mask
Written by
Directed by Daniel Lee
Hong Kong, 1996
As Black Mask opens, a series of distorted images edited together in rapide fire MTV music video style is accompanied by a narrator explaining that a short while ago the Chinese government invested heavily in the creation of a squad of super soldiers named the 701st. The experiment proved disastrous however as it ended up producing super thugs rather than super heroes for the most part. Tsui Chik (Jet Li) was one such bio-engineered soldier who made it out alive when the state opted to liquidate its failed crop. Tsui keeps to himself mostly, working as a librarian and playing chess with his only friend, police inspector Shek Wai-Ho (Ching Wan Lau). When Hong Kong’s mob leaders are murdered in increasingly gruesome fashion in a series of elaborate attacks, Tsui finds himself thrust into action as his super hero...

You're going to want to check out this radical new fan film called "Batman Evolution," featuring actor and real life ninja Eric Gable as Batman. The short has some pretty awesome action and fun comedic elements in it that I think you'll all enjoy. It shows us a cool imagining of 1960s Batman transforming into the Dark Knight.
Witness how the 60's Batman became the Dark Knight. Featuring Eric Gable portraying Batman doing authentic Ninjutsu moves. Also starring Joel Hebner as Black Mask and Mark Erman as Robin with stunt team 87Eleven playing henchmen in this slick knockout black comedy action fest!!!
The video comes from Cbm, and I've also included some words from Gable below the video. I hope you like it!
Batman Evolution was super fun to make! And although it Is a comedy, in the midst of all the silliness we get a chance to show off...

The name "Godkiller" should ring a bell as we've been talking about the transmedia series of graphic novels, illustrated films, and novels for about five years, and now it's entering yet another phase as an indie weekly comic.
From the Press Release:
Black Mask Studios, the creator-supporting comics publisher founded by Brett Gurewitz (Bad Religion, Epitaph Records, Anti- Records), Matt Pizzolo (founder Occupy Comics, Halo-8), and Steve Niles (30 Days Of Night), is launching its first weekly comic book series as Pizzolo brings his beloved modern classic sci-horror franchise Godkiller to comic book stores for the first time.
"I think we've all gotten used to a binge diet for episodic stories. Personally, I can barely handle waiting a week between episodes of 'Boardwalk Empire'; a month or more between comics sometimes feels like the decade-long wait for another Game of Thrones book," explained Pizzolo, "so I'm hopeful a weekly schedule might...

Taking place before the rise of Gotham City's most dangerous villains and assassins, the game showcases a young, raw, unrefined Batman as he faces a defining moment in his early career as a crime fighter that sets his path to becoming the Dark Knight. As the story unfolds, witness identities being formed and key relationships being forged.

Rocksteady’s Batman: Arkham City did many things right: it managed to distill all of the things that make the Dark Knight a compelling character into a cohesive game that finally got Batman right. It gave us his martial arts training, his second-to-none detective abilities, and his utility belt full of gadgets, and combined all of these factors into a game that was deep, compelling, and most of all fun. It also did one thing wrong: its ending, which left the Joker dead and a mourning Harley Quinn trying to fill the grinning void in his empire, painted the Arkham canon into one hell of a corner.
The obvious, and not necessarily the best solution to this problem? Make the third game into a prequel! WB Games handed the reins of development over to their internal studio in Montreal to explore Batman’s early years (again) in Batman: Arkham Origins,...

Seeing the opportunity to cash in some extra licensing monies off of its pugnacious prequel, the keyholders at WB Games sought out developer Armature Studios to create Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate, a sequel to the prequel that would fit well within the limited hardware of portable consoles, in this case the Playstation Vita and Nintendo 3Ds. While some of the characteristics of its set-top siblings translate remarkably well to the small screen, there are some truly nagging flaws that make Blackgate a tough sentence to finish out.
Set shortly after the events in Arkham Origins proper, Blackgate sees a mysterious explosion at the titular Blackgate prison causing full-scale riots, with the Penguin, the Joker, and Black Mask each taking over a wing of the prison with their own quickly assembled gangs. Batman, naturally, goes in to defuse the situation with an unlikely sidekick: Catwoman.

When I first devised the idea of Comic Execution, I wanted to do more than just the standard “this is good, this is bad” capsule reviews that are so prevalent nowadays. I wanted the column to be entertaining first and foremost, and I wanted it to hold mainstream comics to a higher standard than what I saw online. Going with a theme of “who will survive” seemed natural for a column on a horror themed website but I didn’t realize how Well it would work. Well, for my own purposes, at least. Today, though, marks the first step down a dark corridor. Full of blood and pain is this corridor. You see, I’m executing a publisher. You’ll have to read two reviews first, though. Or you could scroll down the page to my Hinterkind review and skip the first two but Surely you wouldn’t be so cruel…...

The good thing is the highly regarded Batman: Arkham series has finally made its way to handhelds. The bad news is Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate offers only a taste of the precedent set by the main series. Blackgate borrows some mechanics and certain gameplay elements from the console games, but ultimately decides to be its own thing and not an open-world action-adventure. Instead, Blackgate is a 2.5D side-scroller with gameplay that closely resembles Castlevania. Although the concept is completely acceptable, the execution was all wrong.
Blackgate‘s story is told through comic-style art accompanied by decent voice-over, which you will appreciate once you hear the first set of banter between Batman and Catwoman. The work may not be on the level 90′s Batman: The Animated Series, but it’s certainly above average. Blackgate takes place 3 months after Arkham Origins finishes and the 3 main foes are Joker, the Penguin and Black Mask.

During this console generation, the superhero that we affectionately call the Caped Crusader has cemented himself as gaming’s favourite fictional crime fighter, thanks to the release and resulting popularity of two incredible games from Rocksteady that set the bar for future genre efforts. Of course, we just recently received a third entry in said Batman: Arkham franchise, entitled Batman: Arkham Origins, though it’s something I cannot comment on personally as I’ve yet to sit down and lurk my way through it as Bruce Wayne’s alter ego. What I can talk about, though, is the third iteration’s complementing handheld title, Batman: Arkham Origins – Blackgate, which hit store shelves on the same day as its console-based peer. I’ve stealthily scoured through its dingy prison setting, and have emerged with quite a few thoughts regarding what is a cheaper, plus different, take on the beloved formula.
