Fede Alvarez’s (Evil Dead, Don’t Breathe) Alien: Romulus will be unleashed in theaters nationwide on August 16, and Entertainment Weekly brings us two new images today.
The first image you’ll find below gives us another fresh look at the film’s Xenomorph, with Alvarez promising the outlet that it’s the most H.R. Giger-faithful Xenomorph of them all.
Entertainment Weekly writes, “… Alvarez promises [the Xenomorph’s design] is closer to H.R. Giger’s original creation than any other iteration.” The late H.R. Giger was of course integral to Ridley Scott’s Alien, designing the iconic monster the franchise is centered on.
The other image you’ll find below gives us a look at two of the human characters from Alien: Romulus, Archie Renaux’s Tyler and Cailee Spaeny’s heroine Rain Carradine.
Head over to Entertainment Weekly for their full preview of the upcoming film.

The sci-fi thriller M3GAN (read our review Here, get a copy Here) was such a financial success when it reached theatres in January of last year, it didn’t even take Universal Pictures and production companies Blumhouse and Atomic Monster two weeks to announce that they’d be re-teaming for a sequel. With a global box office haul of over $400 million, Pacific Rim was bound for a sequel – we did get one, just not with Guillermo del Toro as director. But it wasn’t for a lack of trying but rather a lack of a paycheck – not to del Toro but sound stages.
As Guillermo del Toro explained to Collider, a missed payment and an obligation to another film caused the director to bow out of helming a Pacific Rim sequel. “We were getting ready to do it, it was different from the first, but it had a continuation of many of the things that I was trying to do. Then what happened is—I mean, this is why life’s crazy, right?—they had to give a deposit for the stages at 5pm or we would lose the stages in Toronto for many months. It’s been 10 years since the release of Guillermo del Toro’s “Pacific Rim.” And thus, it’s been five years since the sequel, ‘Uprising,’ which sadly isn’t directed by del Toro. But it isn’t until now that we find out the real reason why the award-winning filmmaker skipped directing the sequel to what seemed like one of his true passion projects. Well, you see, it all came down to missing a deposit on sound stages.

You remember "Pacific Rim Uprising," don't you? The 2018 sequel at least had the good sense to continue telling stories in a world begging to become a franchise and also cast John Boyega in a much-deserved leading role, but still managed to squander its potential with a lackluster story, a bizarre and unflattering habit of setting all its major action sequences in broad daylight, and, most egregiously of all, the decision to move forward without director Guillermo del Toro's involvement. This has obviously been a sore spot for the acclaimed, monster-loving filmmaker, but we never quite got to the bottom of why things went down the way they did.
Until now, that is. "Pacific Rim" and its thrilling set pieces just turned 10 years old and, to mark the occasion, del Toro teamed up with Collider to host a special Q&a session after a recent screening of the original movie in glorious IMAX.

Guillermo del Toro is looking back and reflecting on the scrapped Star Wars movie he was developing that would’ve centered around Jabba the Hutt.

The 2013 Guillermo del Toro-directed film “Pacific Rim” is something of a cult classic for fans of the sci-fi genre, many of whom were disappointed when del Toro didn’t return to direct the 2o18 sequel “Pacific Rim: Uprising.” In a new interview with Collider’s Steven Weintraub, the director reveals the reason he didn’t return for part two came down to a failure to pay a deposit for soundstages in Toronto, Canada.

When “Pacific Rim” was released in 2013, Guillermo del Toro made it clear that he envisioned the kaiju film as the beginning of a franchise. But while the monsters-vs-robots blockbuster brought in a respectable global box office haul and became profitable enough to justify a sequel, it never quite became the cultural phenomenon that many expected it to be. The “Pan’s Labyrinth” director eventually had to drop out of directing the second film, “Pacific Rim: Uprising,” to focus on making “The Shape of Water.”
In a new interview with Collider to commemorate the film’s 10th anniversary, del Toro reflected on his plans to direct a sequel that never materialized. He explained that a logistical error involving a producer failing to put down a deposit on soundstages led to a lengthy delay that forced him to exit the project.

John Boyega Dubs ‘The Last Jedi’ His Worst ‘Star Wars’ Movie: ‘In the Most Respectful Sense’ (Video)
John Boyega’s least favorite “Star Wars” film that he was in? Rian Johnson’s “The Last Jedi” from 2017, he told “Hot Ones” in a video released Wednesday.
“Rank the three ‘Star Wars’ films you were in from best to worst,” Boyega reads from the cue card before responding: “Hell yeah, I’ll do it!”
“‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ is most definitely the best,” said the actor, who played Stormtrooper-turned-rebel Finn in the cinematic trilogy that kicked off in 2015.
“Second, for me, comes Episode 9 [‘The Rise of Skywalker’]. The worst, in the most respectful sense, is Episode 8 [‘The Last Jedi’]. “But they’re all lovely,” he added after giving a significant side-eye glance.
What is @johnboyega’s Least favorite Star Wars movie? In this episode of #TruthOrDabRapidFire, @johnboyega has two simple choices: tell the truth… or suffer the wrath of The Last Dab

The Directors Guild’s tentative agreement for a new film and TV contract “is the biggest we’ve ever negotiated” and “is almost double what we got last time,” former DGA President Paris Barclay says in a new video posted on the guild’s website featuring members touting the deal.
Barclay, currently the DGA’s secretary-treasurer, served as president from 2013-2017. He also co-chaired the guild’s Outreach Team that supported membership awareness and engagement going into the contract negotiations, which began May 10.
See the video here.
The DGA doesn’t put a dollar value on its contracts.
While Barclay may have been speaking rhetorically and a bit off the cuff about the gains being “almost double what we got last time,” the 5% pay increase in the first year of the new contract is indeed double the 2.5% pay raise achieved three years ago, while the 4% pay hike in the second...

If you've found yourself missing the fictional "Attack The Block" crew in the years since Joe Cornish's excellent London-set alien invasion movie debuted, you're not alone. In an interview for the latest issue of Total Film, star John Boyega shared some insights about the long-anticipated sequel to the 2011 movie, and revealed that he's thought about the character he played, Moses, often in the intervening years.
"It's a character that I really understand," the "Star Wars" actor explained. "In creating him when I was younger, I really understand where he's at now. It's the character that's stuck with me the longest." The character of fifteen-year-old teen gang leader Moses was then-stage actor Boyega's first-ever role on film, and his breakout role as well. The often-underestimated and racially profiled heart of the film, Moses ends up under arrest in its final scene, but his neighbors know he's really a hero. "Every year I'd think,...

Producer Steven DeKnight is walking back his critique from last week of “Wednesday” star Jenna Ortega in which he called her “toxic” and “unprofessional.”

The brouhaha began with her appearance on the Armchair Expert podcast, in which she told host Dax Shepard of the steps she took on behalf of her character on the Netflix series: “I don’t think I’ve ever had to put my foot down more on a set in a way that I had to on ‘Wednesday.'”
Absolutely! Again, I can't stress this enough: She's an amazing talent. It was just an unfortunate situation to expose creative differences publicly, and also I'll admit that...

Everyone, get out your swords and sandals because we're heading back to the arena! Starz has just announced that it is currently developing a new "Spartacus" series! Forgive the excessive use of exclamation points, but I loved every minute of this show from the first moment to the last, including the prequel "Spartacus: Gods of the Arena."
The first season of the series was entitled "Spartacus: Blood and Sand" and debuted in 2010. Before the second season, star Andy Whitfield was diagnosed with early-stage non-Hodgkin lymphoma, leading to the prequel to give him time to recover. Sadly, he passed away, and the role was recast with Liam McIntyre for season 2, "Spartacus: Vengeance" and season 3, "Spartacus: War of the Damned."
The show was, as our title says, very sexy. Still, it was also a compelling drama about the titular Thracian gladiator who led a revolt of enslaved people against the Roman empire.

Spartacus: Blood and Sand premiered in January 2010 on Starz and was a hit for the cabler, setting ratings marks that would stand for several years (eventually topped by the likes of Outlander and Power). The series — known for its hyperreal,...

A push toward onscreen inclusivity, for reasons both artistic and commercial, can be summed up in two films released in early 2018. Walt Disney’s “Black Panther” featured mostly Black actors and Black characters. Universal’s “Pacific Rim: Uprising” featured a protagonist who just happened to be played by an actor who looked more like John Boyega than Charlie Hunnam.
Both serve the worthwhile end-game of more varied onscreen representation. Randall Park’s directorial debut, “Shortcomings,” is explicitly a character comedy about Asian American characters that isn’t entirely or just about being Asian American.
Penned by Adrian Tomine and based on his 2007 graphic novel, “Shortcomings” focuses on young Aapi protagonists who are flawed, complex, messy and still figuring things out. That’s what the cast liked best about the film, as explained when Justin Min, Sherry Cola and Ally Maki stopped by TheWrap’s Portrait and Video Studio at The...

The horror fandom is one of the most dedicated and passionate cultural communities in existence, with countless conventions, festivals, and celebrations happening year-round — all connected by the mutual appreciation for frightful films. Some may go so far as to call the horror fandom a "family," but in the case of two of horror's most promising young actors, that description is literal. Madeleine and Violet McGraw are both still in their adolescent years, but have given performances in horror films that some adult actors could only dream of pulling off. Oftentimes, memorable horror performances from children are rooted in the "killer kid" subgenre, but for the McGraw sisters, the young performers both shine as hero protagonists.
In less than a year, horror juggernaut Blumhouse Productions has released two films with Universal Pictures through their first-look deal that contain dynamic performances from young actors. "The Black Phone" and "M3GAN" couldn't be more different tonally or thematically,...

A production listing posted by the Film & Television Industry Alliance has revealed that the Alien film that’s set to be directed by Fede Alvarez is going by the working title of Alien: Romulus… and filming is scheduled to begin in Budapest, Hungary on February 6th!
Last month, it was announced that Cailee Spaeny of Pacific Rim: Uprising will star in the film, which is coming to us from Momentum and 20th Century Studios, with Ridley Scott producing through his Scott Free banner. It’s being made for release through the Hulu streaming service, much like the Predator franchise addition Prey that was released earlier this year (and turned out to be one of the more well-received entries in that series).
Very little is known what Alvarez has in store for us with Alien: Romulus. Alvarez will be directing the film from a screenplay he was written with his frequent collaborator Rodo Sayagues.

Director Fede Alvarez, best known for “Don’t Breathe” and 2013’s “Evil Dead” remake, also wrote the screenplay, which reboots the science-fiction horror franchise. It’s the seventh “Alien” movie following 2017’s “Alien: Covenant.”
Although the cast hasn’t been finalized, the studio hopes it will be able to get the cameras rolling by early 2023.
Ridley Scott is producing the untitled “Alien” installment, having directed the original 1979 movie as well as two sequels, 2012’s “Prometheus” and “Alien: Covenant.” Alvarez will also serve as a producer.
