There have already been several high points on Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band’s 2024 tour, and Sunday night’s show in Columbus, Ohio, provided another one.
The Boss and co. turned in an epic three-hour, 30-song set that saw “Youngstown,” “Streets of Fire,” and “I’m Goin’ Down” all performed live for the first time since at least 2017. The choice to kick off the show with “Youngstown” was especially appropriate as it was written about Youngstown, Ohio, located just two-and-half hours away from Columbus. Meanwhile, “Streets of Fire” has only been performed by Springsteen 23 times since 1978, and not since 2017.

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band touched down in Uncasville, Connecticut, on Friday night for an intimate show at the 10,000-seat Mohegan Sun Arena. It’s the tiniest venue they’ve hit since returning to the road in February 2023, and one of the few casino gigs Springsteen has played in his entire career.
“We’re back!” Springsteen said when taking the stage. “Somebody lost their money! Somebody lost their money or we wouldn’t be back. We’ve got to get paid. But I don’t care if you...

If you needed any proof that Bruce Springsteen is fully recovered from health ailments that derailed his 2023 tour (some of which may or may not have been the result of Larry David), look no further than the performance he and the E Street Band turned in at the Kia Forum in Inglewood, California on Thursday night.
The show ran a grand total of three hours and 18 minutes and featured a sprawling 32-song setlist including several tracks that hadn’t been played live in close to a decade. What’s more, Springsteen’s wife, Patti Scialfa, made her first appearance on the 2024 leg of the tour, joining her husband for performances of “Tougher Than the Rest” and “Fire.”

Six months after Bruce Springsteen suspended his world tour so he could recover from a painful peptic ulcer, he was back onstage with the E Street Band Tuesday night in Phoenix, for the first gig of the year. And while the setlist was largely the same as the one he delivered nightly in 2023, he did make some minor alterations, and create space for further additions as the year progresses.

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band kicked off their 2024 tour with a blazing 29-song performance at Footprint Center in Phoenix, Arizona on Tuesday night. It marked the band’s first performance since Springsteen was forced to postpone the remainder of the band’s 2023 tour due to a bout with peptic ulcer disease.
Thankfully, The Boss now appears to be fully recovered. The 29-song set stuck closely to the epic shows Springsteen played towards the end of his 2023 run, including performances of “Night,” “Darlington County,” “Darkness on the Edge of Town,” “Spirit in the Night,” “Mary’s Place,” and “Backstreets.” Once again, the encore proved particularly stellar, featuring “Born To Run,” “Rosalita (Come Out Tonight),” “Glory Days,” “Dancing in the Dark,” and “Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out.”

Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band have added a new date to their North American tour.
After their Phoenix, Arizona, show on March 14, they will go to Las Vegas on March 22 to perform at the T-Mobile Arena.
Last September, tour dates were forced to reschedule after Springsteen’s peptic ulcer disease. Shortly after announcing the rescheduled U.S. dates, concert dates for Canada were also declared.
Springsteen began his music career in 1964, but his popularity didn’t rise until 1975, when he and the E Street Band did a ten-show stand over five nights in New York City. Rolling Stone later included the performances in their “50 Moments That Change Rock and Roll” list.
The current tour is scheduled to run until November 22, 2024, in Vancouver, Canada.

Few experiences in rock compare with seeing Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band in New Jersey. That’s why fans from all over the globe descended on East Rutherford’s MetLife Stadium on Aug. 30, Sept. 1, and Sept. 3. Anticipation ran high because seven years ago they delivered some of the most memorable nights in history of the band at the same venue, culminating with a four-hour extravaganza that spotlighted Springsteen’s first three albums.
At that point in time, Springsteen was still grabbing signs from the audience and playing “Stump The Band.

Bob Dylan has shared a statement on the passing of Robbie Robertson, The Band guitarist who backed Dylan during his legendary electric period.
“This is shocking news,” Dylan said. “Robbie was a lifelong friend. His passing leaves a vacancy in the world.”
Dylan and Robertson met in 1965, and Dylan quickly hired The Hawks — the original name of The Band — to perform as his backing band. In 1965 and 1966, Dylan performed two sets on tour: one of the acoustic folk music that made him famous, and one set, featuring The Hawks, that signified his controversial progression toward electric guitar.
In 1967, The Hawks joined Dylan in Woodstock, New York to work on new music. These sessions formed the basis of The Band’s 1968 record Music from Big Pink, and recordings featuring Dylan later appeared on 1975’s The Basement Tapes. Following their debut as The Band, Robertson and company redirected their attention to their own music,...

Just hours after news broke of the death of Robbie Robertson, Bruce Springsteen paid tribute to the co-founder of The Band during the kickoff show of his North American tour (get tickets here) in Chicago.
While closing out his marathon three-hour set at Wrigley Field on Wednesday night, Springsteen dedicated his somber ballad “I’ll See You in My Dreams” to “my good friend Robbie Robertson.” Watch the fan-shot video of the performance below.
“I’ll See You in My Dreams” appeared on The Boss and E Street Band’s 2020 album, Letter to You, and was later dedicated to the late Australian record executive Michael Gudinski following his death in March 2021.
As the Asbury Park Press points out, Robertson spent time with The Band honing their skills on the Jersey Shore in the mid-1960s — just ahead of Springsteen’s early years of performing regularly in the region.

It was a long time coming, but Sam Elliott finally earned his first Oscar nomination for “A Star Is Born” (2018). He contended as Best Supporting Actor for this musical drama about a failing rockstar (Bradley Cooper) who falls in love with a rising pop star (Lady Gaga), but can’t kick his drug and alcohol addiction despite the best efforts of his girlfriend and his older brother/manager (Elliott). Let’s take a look back at 15 of his greatest films, ranked worst to best.
In a career spanning 50 years, Elliott has received scant awards recognition for his film career. He has, however, contended at the Emmys for his work in “Buffalo Girls” (Best Movie/Mini Supporting Actor in 1995) and “Robot Chicken” (Best Voice-Over Performer in 2013). He competed at the Golden Globes for “Buffalo Girls” and once more for “Conagher” (Best TV Movie/Mini Actor in 1992).

Adapted from the 2015 novel by Katherine Center, Netflix’s “Happiness for Beginners” largely takes place in the wilderness, where different kinds of people are forced to bond while braving the elements as they hike the Appalachian Trail. Led by “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” and “The Office” alum Ellie Kemper, the gaggle of goofballs provides laughs of all kinds as well as some heartfelt moments.
Zealous camp guide Bennett (Ben Cook) keeps everything interesting, especially when he scolds Helen (Kemper) for her careless mistakes on the hike and praises Jake (Luke Grimes) for all of his perfect moves in setting up and taking down camp. Nico Santos and Gus Birney even more humor to this romantic comedy story.
Here’s who plays who in “Happiness for Beginners”:
Helen (Ellie Kemper)
Ellie Kemper portrays Helen, who wants to start over after she divorces her husband. She experienced infidelity and a miscarriage during their marriage.

The official trailer for Warner Bros. Pictures’ most buzzed-about summer movie, Barbie, promises this movie’s for those who love Barbie – and for those who hate the doll. Arguably the best look yet at “Barbie” was released Thursday by Warner Bros. The new trailer for Greta Gerwig’s upcoming film mixes goofy comedy with some existential conflict while also showcasing the star turns from leads Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling.
The “Barbie” main trailer opens with the title hero (Robbie) having yet another “best day ever” and a blowout party that gets interrupted when Barbie asks her friends if they ever think about dying. The cracks in her happy facade continue from there before Barbie and Ken (Gosling) are forced to go to the “real world” to find out the “truth about the universe.” Once in reality, Barbie and Ken are faced with confrontation and disinterest as they seemingly must work to escape the clutches of a corporate overlord (played by Will Ferrell). Think “Elf” meets “Lady Bird” meets “The Lego Movie.”

After a two-hour-plus main set that slammed home themes of mortality and impermanence and the way of all flesh, Bruce Springsteen reemerged on Madison Square Garden’s stage Saturday night, April 1, for his usual lengthy encore, and announced “something special for New York City.” He pointed over at Soozie Tyrell, who began a dead-on recreation of one of rock’s few canonical violin melodies, over piano from all-time-great arpeggio purveyor Roy Bittan. They eased the E Street Band into the 11-minute-long, 48-year-old mini-rock-opera “Jungleland,” played and sung with enough muscle...

With its list of new releases for June 2022, HBO Max is joining in what should be a TV summer to remember.
Not content to let Netflix’s Stranger Things or Prime Video’s The Boys to dominate the summer TV landscape, HBO is coming through with a new season of one of its big hits. Westworld season 4 is set to premiere June 26 on both HBO and HBO Max. What will this season of the increasingly confusing sci-fi drama be about? Per HBO’s synopsis it will be “A dark odyssey about the fate of sentient life on earth.” So you know, only that.
Irma Vep is the only other Max Original of note this month. Based on a 1996 cult classic of the same name, this limited series stars Alicia Vikander as a disillusioned movie star looking to remake the early 20th century French silent film serial Les Vampires.

Congratulations to all my L.A. peers on victory of the Rams at last week’s Super Bowl, but I have to admit that the highlight of the show for this sports-illiterate viewer had nothing to do with musclemen or their ball, nor that invigorating half-time show (though Kendrick Lamar’s cardboard boxes bit was legendary). I perked up Jordan Peele’s “Nope” trailer, a pileup of shocked cutaways to a very menacing something in the sky: It said just enough about why we should anticipate this late-July release without saying much at all.
Above all, it said Peele is still at it, directing singular horror-comedies with a calculated intent to entertain and enlighten. Six years after his debut “Get Out” became a global behemoth, here’s a modern U.S. filmmaker with a rare ability to take his time making original movies with the full backing of a studio’s dollars.

On the 20th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks, Bruce Springsteen gave an emotional live performance of “I’ll See You in My Dreams” at the 9/11 memorial in New York City.
Before the performance, Springsteen gave a speech remembering the nearly 3,000 people who died. “May God bless our fallen brothers and sisters, their families, their friends and their loved ones,” he said. After the singer performed, there was a moment of silence at 9:03 a.m. to mark when United Airlines Flight 175 crashed into the south tower of the World Trade Center.
When Springsteen and the E Street Band’s album, “The Rising,” was released in 2002, Springsteen spoke to Nightline to talk about how the Sept. 11 attacks inspired it. “One of the most powerful images of the 11th, that I’d read in the paper, some of the people coming down were talking about emergency workers who were ascending,” Springsteen said. “The...

Bruce Springsteen revived his Springsteen on Broadway residency on Saturday night. It was his first post-pandemic public performance, and the first Broadway show of any sort since theaters were shuttered in March 2020. That meant it was a very hot ticket that attracted the likes of Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg, New Jersey governor Phil Murphy, MSNBC’s Brian Williams, and even E Street Band guitarist Steve Van Zandt.

There’s a new union in town: the Producers Union, which is the first all-new Hollywood labor union to be formed in decades.
More than 100 indie feature filmmakers have unanimously ratified its constitution, and more than 300 have signed letters of intent to join. “After decades of working without basic protections, low and/or inconsistent wages, no employer healthcare contributions and an industry insistence that they should work for free to demonstrate their commitment, film producers are taking a stand,” organizers said in a statement.
The Producers Union website launches today.
Rebecca Green is the new union’s first president. Green, whose producing credits include It Follows and I’ll See You in My Dreams, is the founder and editor-in-chief of Dear Producer, a website designed “to challenge archaic business models that stifle diverse and original voices and to advocate for innovation, transparency, and fiscal responsibility from our industry.”

Director Thom Zimny has become Bruce Springsteen’s historian of sorts at a time when the veteran rocker is increasingly willing to engage with his own history. In a string of films beginning with “The Promise” in 2010 and more recently including “Western Stars,” the filmed version of “Springsteen on Broadway” and now the new documentary “Bruce Springsteen’s Letter to You,” Zimny has showcased both Springsteen’s performances and his ruminations on his life and career.
“Letter to You,” which will premiere on Friday on Apple TV+ to coincide with the release of the album of the same name, marks the first time that Zimny took his cameras into the recording studio with Springsteen, who made the album in four days last fall with the musicians in his E Street Band. Over the past half a century, Bruce Springsteen has played down-on-their-luck working men, wide-eyed youngsters growing up too quickly, local-circuit rockers who can only dream of playing stadiums, Cadillac ranchers tearin’ up the highway for cheap kicks, and on and on in his songs. Although he was playing roles in his songs, the same sense of hope for the future and desire to live a simpler life has connected his characters since the beginning, and those threads have only become more apparent as time has gone on. Now on his 20th album,...

Another horror-adjacent release of note is Truth Seekers, a comedy-horror series from Nick Frost and Simon Pegg.
That’s about it for notable originals. Thankfully October 1 brings the usual burst of fascinating library movie titles. A Knights Tale, Spaceballs, and The Departed all debut on the first of the month. Terminator: Dark Fate arrives on Oct. 9. The superb final season of Mr. Robot will be available on Oct. 6. As we head into the last week of September, let’s look ahead at what’s coming to Amazon Prime in October. It’s the usual mix of great newly-licensed titles arriving at the top of the month and a range of original movies and TV shows dropping throughout the upcoming weeks. But, what with it being spooky season, this time Prime’s October haul is specifically geared towards giving you some scares during Halloween.
For starters, horror fans will not want to miss the launch of Blumhouse’s “Welcome to the Blumhouse” series with four original films going up across October. The first duo, Black Box and The Lie, land on Prime on October 6th. Then, a week later on the 13th, both Evil Eye and Nocturne debut. Anything with Blumhouse behind it is usually worth checking out, so make sure not to miss those.

Columbia Records will release Bruce Springsteen’s new album Letter to You on Oct. 23, according to Rolling Stone. The 12-track album is the first to feature The E Street Band since High Hopes in 2014. As an introductory salutation to his 20th studio LP, Springsteen released the title-track lead single “Letter to You.”
“I love the emotional nature of ‘Letter to You,’” Springsteen said in a statement, via Rolling Stone. “And I love the sound of the E Street Band playing completely live in the studio, in a way we’ve never done before, and with no overdubs. We made the album in only five days, and it turned out to be one of the greatest recording experiences I’ve ever had.”
This is the first time Springsteen has performed with the E Street Band since The River 2016 tour. The music video shows the band working in Springteen’s home studio in New Jersey.

Paramount’s plan to tell you more, tell you more about the crucial amorous 1950s-set teen backstory to its iconic 1978 musical, Grease, appears to be coming to fruition. The project, a prequel movie titled Summer Lovin’, went into development last year and has just procured a director in Brett Haley.
Summer Lovin’ is officially moving forward with Haley in the director’s chair, reports Deadline. A surging indie talent for whom the film will serve as a potential mainstream breakthrough, Haley will work off a script by Leah McKendrick, a surging talent poised to break out in her own right. They will be joined here by producers in Temple Hill and Picturestart. Interestingly, the report points to studio enthusiasm strong enough for the project to serve as a potential franchise-launcher.

Exclusive: Paramount’s Grease prequel Summer Lovin’ is revving up its engine, with the studio tapping Brett Haley to direct the film. Leah McKendrick penned the script with Temple Hill and Picturestart producing.
The 1978 musical classic starred John Travolta as greaser Danny and Olivia Newton-John as good girl Sandy, high school teens who after having a brief summer fling come to find out they are attending the same high school. Even though they come from opposite ends of the world, the two try to make their relationship work while singing now-iconic songs that still resonate today.
One of the songs, “Summer Nights,” details the summer fling that started the relationship, and Summer Lovin will detail that fateful meeting and what followed.

What a wonderful surprise this film is! Rather under the radar, Netflix has released one of the better movies of 2020 so far with All the Bright Places, a tremendously effective and mature adaptation of the Young Adult novel of the same name. Ya titles can often pull their punches and leave you lacking, but director Brett Haley, one of the most underrated storytellers in the business, does not fall into that trap. Along with writer Liz Hannah, he makes this a deeply impactful and moving experience. I’m not sure Netflix knows what they have on their hands here, and that’s a shame. It really deserves a theatrical release, like they afford their prestige flicks. It’s more than good enough for that status. The movie is a teen drama about a pair struggling with emotional scars. Director Brett Haley’s “All The Bright Places” may tackle a few dark issues, but this teen weepie about two hurting souls is drenched in warmth and compassion. Adapted by Jennifer Niven and Liz Hannah from Niven’s bestselling young adult novel, Haley’s feature contains all the necessary ingredients for success that films like “The Fault in Our Stars” and its ilk have — undeniably cute leads adept at conjuring cheers and tears, a solid soundtrack and a pass-the-tissues third act — yet its pure beating heart and humanistic undertones make it somewhat of a standout. That said, audiences might want to exercise some caution as content dealing with suicide, grief and mental health, while handled with an extremely sensitive touch, might be triggering for those who feel compromised.
