Plot: Years after her sister disappeared at Arvores National Park, a young woman named Lennon gets a job as an Arvores park ranger in hopes of finding out what happened to her sibling. Unfortunately for her, she does find out.
Review: Teresa Sutherland wrote the screenplay for Emma Tammi’s 2018 horror Western The Wind and was part of the writing staff on the Mike Flanagan series Midnight Mass, and now she has made her feature directorial debut with the horror film Lovely, Dark, and Deep, which she was inspired to make after hearing “real-life conspiracy theories surrounding the unusually high number of unsolved missing person cases that happen in national parks and forests”. She came up with a theory of her own… something dealing with an ancient supernatural force that still operates in these isolated places “where it still gets dark”… and delivered it in the form of a movie that has some interesting ideas,...

Back when we heard that Georgina Campbell was starring in the psychological horror film Lovely, Dark, and Deep, she was best known for winning a BAFTA TV leading actress award for her role in the 2014 TV movie Murdered by My Boyfriend. Since then, we’ve seen her name around here quite a lot, due to her roles in films like All My Friends Hate Me, Barbarian, Bird Box: Barcelona, T.I.M., and the upcoming The Watchers, Cold Storage, and Psycho Killer. As for Lovely, Dark, and Deep, it’s set to receive a VOD release on February 22nd, and we have the trailer embedded below.
This project marks the feature directorial debut of Teresa Sutherland, who previously wrote Emma Tammi’s horror western The Wind and was a staff writer on the Netflix / Mike Flanagan series Midnight Mass. The story of this “cosmic thriller” sees Campbell taking on the role of Lennon,...

In any given year, British TV can be relied on to provide plenty in the way of crime drama, and 2023 was no different. Between these returning series and newcomers A Town Called Malice, Blue Lights, Marlow, Payback, Rebus, Steeltown Murders, The Gold, The Sixth Commandment, Wolf and more, crime continued to flourish on the small screen.
Happily though, that was far from all that UK TV offered this year. There was fantasy too, in the form of Netflix’s South London super-powers drama Supacell, ghost detective series Lockwood & Co., Greek and Roman mythology series Kaos, and sci-fi in Prime Video’s The Rig.
Add to all those the romances, dramas inspired by real-life, and several other book adaptations, period and otherwise plus music-based dramas Champion and This Town, and it was a pretty full slate.

Any horror movie worth its salt is anchored by its performances. Script, cinematography, production design, score — all those things play a major part, of course, and you obviously can't make a film without them. But to make things really pack the punch necessary to be effective in the genre, you need top-notch actors who can take us there. Enter Georgina Campbell and Justin Long, two of the leads in the upcoming horror-mystery "Barbarian." The pair bring a nuanced sense of character to two fairly stereotypical archetypes in this film, and their command of those personas give the movie a firm foundation on which to build its absolutely bizarre and terrifying story.
"Barbarian" follows Campbell's Tess, a woman who, upon arriving at an Airbnb she rented in Detroit, finds a man named Keith (Bill Skarsgaard) already staying there. Against her better judgment, she decides to stay the night at the house,...

Netflix psychological thriller Behind Her Eyes, adapted from Sarah Pinborough’s hit novel of the same name, sets its cast an unenviably tough task (and not just because almost everyone’s having to do a regional accent). Through subtleties and shifts in their performances, Eve Hewson, Tom Bateman, Simona Brown and Robert Aramayo need to keep the audience invested while keeping us guessing. What is it we’re watching? Is this six-part series the tale of Adele and David’s brittle marriage and the secrets that bind them? Or the story of single-mother Louise (Simona Brown) getting in over her head with this glamorous new couple? Could it be something else entirely?
While you’re asking yourself those questions, you’ll likely be asking another: where have I seen that guy before? While we can’t help with the former and stay spoiler-free, we can answer that one…
Eve Hewson...

4.4 Hang The DJ
However merry a path a Black Mirror episode seems to be wending, its audience has been taught to brace for impact. Show us a fragrant young couple hitting it off and we dutifully await the revelation that we’re really watching a suicide pact/eternal torture session/poignant vision of the afterlife reminding us that we, our loved ones and our hopes and dreams are slowly dying too.
Not here. With its menacing taser-armed guards and talk of feeling “like a prisoner”, Hang The DJ hints towards a dark secret, but in fact is all rather sweet.

The latest in BBC Three's 'Murdered By' series is a powerful look at the devastation caused by intolerance...
We exist in a time when pointless, devastating violence is an all-too common occurrence, whether it’s knife crime amongst teenagers, terrorism or people simply letting their opposing views turn into physical conflicts. The prequel TV series is being developed by Man of Steel scribe David S. Goyer. Krypton is set two generations before the destruction of the legendary Man of Steel's home planet. It follows Superman’s grandfather Seg-El - whose House of El was ostracized and shamed - as he fights to redeem his family’s honor and save his beloved world from chaos. Glenda Jackson: Actress and former Labour MP. Two-time Oscar winner and former Labour MP Glenda Jackson returns to acting Two-time Best Actress Academy Award winner Glenda Jackson set aside her acting career after becoming a Labour Party MP in 1992. Four years ago, Jackson, who represented the Greater London constituency of Hampstead and Highgate, announced that she would stand down the 2015 general election – which, somewhat controversially, was won by right-wing prime minister David Cameron's Conservative party.[1] The silver lining: following a two-decade-plus break, Glenda Jackson is returning to acting. Now, Jackson isn't – for the time being – returning to acting in front of the camera. The 79-year-old is to be featured in the Radio 4 series Emile Zola: Blood, Sex and Money, described on their website as a “mash-up” adaptation of 20 Emile Zola novels collectively known as "Les Rougon-Macquart."[2] Part 1 of the three-part Radio 4 series will be broadcast daily during an...

The BBC Trust has recommended proposals to close down BBC Three as a broadcast channel and move it online in 2016 - but its decision is not final.
The Trust will carry out another round of consultation in the coming weeks, as it wants to feel confident that BBC Three's "risk-taking" remit and existing audience will still be served across the corporation's other TV channels and services.
BBC Trust: 'We have not ignored young people on BBC Three - they have a valid voice'
"We want a strong, sustainable BBC which is innovative, distinctive and relevant and has clear boundaries with the commercial market. We have reached our provisional conclusions with this over-arching objective in mind," said BBC Trust chairman Rona Fairhead.
"It is clear that the long-term future of broadcasting is online and the BBC needs to find new and exciting ways to help audiences make that transition, while bearing down on costs overall.

Will BBC Two's spy thriller The Game come back for a second series? Series lead Tom Hughes thinks it just might.
Hughes told Metro that he hopes BBC Two will recommission the series, in which he stars as MI5 operative Joe Lambe.
"There's definitely more layers to peel away," he said. "I think audiences have become more sophisticated and don't expect everything right away - it's like Don Draper in Mad Men, we only got to know him gradually."
Created by Being Human and Doctor Who writer Toby Whithouse, The Game also stars Brian Cox, Paul Ritter and Chloe Pirrie.
The series debuted on BBC America in late 2014, before launching to an overnight average of 1.63m on BBC Two in April.
Its third episode airs this Thursday (May 14) at 9pm.

Does moving BBC Three online mean viewers will miss out? Murdered by My Boyfriend star Georgina Campbell isn't so sure.
Campbell - who won a BAFTA on Sunday night for her performance in the one-off drama - told press including Digital Spy that other shows could emulate the success of Murdered by My Boyfriend on BBC iPlayer.
"It seems like Murdered by My Boyfriend did really well on iPlayer - it was the most-watched [programme] on iPlayer in the week it came out," the actress said backstage at the House of Fraser BAFTA Television Awards.
"If it did so well for BBC Three - and it was mostly [through] iPlayer - there's no reason why there can't be more shows like this coming from BBC Three, and hopefully they will get the same recognition and the same viewers."
