Kim Kardashian ended her Halloween homage to music legends with a bang: dressing up as the late Tejano singer Selena Quintanilla. “My fave Selena!” the Keeping Up With the Kardashians star captioned the video she posted on Instagram.
But it wasn’t everyone’s fave.
Over the weekend, Kardashian’s costume choices provoked strong reactions — from praise to scorn — for dressing up as iconic women of color. First, she morphed into the beloved late R&B singer Aaliyah. Then, she donned a jumpsuit that matched the one Quintanilla wore for her last concert before being shot to death by the president of her fan club,...

After a summer in which many people wished Saturday Night Live could be on every weekend in order to comment on the craziness that is 2017, the show finally returned this weekend for its 43rd season. But rather than overload on topical sketches during its premiere, SNL opted to keep most Trump-related items to its cold open and "Weekend Update" segments. This isn't exactly unusual: Having multiple political sketches within the show is abnormal, and it's probably unwise to expect that the ratio the show deployed last year will be repeated this year.

Warning: spoilers ahead. For the record, I never cracked open Stephen King's Gerald's Game because I just couldn't take what the cover --- a pair of handcuffs hanging from a bedpost, its top carved into a crouching, hurting woman --- indicated. This week at Fantastic Fest has been rough, and I wasn't sure if I was ready to watch this after so much callous behavior by members of the festival here in Austin. (Google it if you don't know to what I'm referring; I'm not here to argue with you.) However, with Mike Flanagan (Hush, Oculus, Absentia) at the helm, I was willing to give it a go. I'd seen his work before, and I knew he was talented. I'd also recently heard him speak...

I've been a huge fan of Joss Whedon ever since his early Buffy The Vampire Slayer days. He's an insanely talented individual that has made some amazing TV series and films. One of the things he is best known for is his strong the strong female characters that he has given fans. He's also known for his feminist ideals and has even been presented with awards for them.
As it turns out, Whedon's ex-wife, Kai Cole, knows a very different part of the man and it's a part that fans, like myself, don't want to hear. She recently wrote an essay that was posted on The Wrap detailing her history with Whedon and some of the events that occurred during their 16 years marriage.

DeMario Jackson and Corinne Olympios' time in Paradise may have been short-lived, but they definitely made an impression.
Fans expected the contestants to be front and center during Monday's season four premiere of Bachelor in Paradise, after the show's promos -- and even host Chris Harrison -- teased their "pool time" on day one, and the controversy that followed.

Kathryn Bigelow's newest movie Detroit comes to theaters this week, so the ScreenJunkies team has looked back at one of her action movie staples to celebrate: Point Break.
I love this film without a hint of irony and think it's an actual masterpiece, so I'm not here to make any jokes about it. (These guys deliver a handful in this video, but whether or not you think they're funny is up to you.) All I can say is that if you haven't seen this movie, or haven't seen it in a few years, I'd 100% recommend watching it instead of this Honest Trailer to appreciate it for the classic that it is. Just make sure you don't watch the remake by mistake.

Bill Cosby came face-to-face with Andrea Constand, the woman alleging that he sexually assaulted her in 2004, during day two of his sexual assault trial in Norristown, Pennsylvania.
Cosby, 79, is charged with three counts of aggravated indecent assault for allegedly drugging and sexually assaulting the former Temple University employee in January 2004 at his mansion in Elkins Park, Pennsylvania. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges, and has repeatedly denied similar claims from other women.
The prosecution called Constand to the stand on Tuesday, and before being going into how she came to meet Cosby, she was asked her to point Cosby out in the courtroom. She complied, although Cosby did not look at her, nor did he look at her throughout the testimony, even turning his head away at times.

While it’s been available since last month on DirecTV exclusively, A24 and DirecTV will release The Blackcoat’s Daughter in theaters and On Demand March 31st, 2017. Osgood Perkin’s stunning feature film stars Kiernan Shipka, Emma Roberts, Lucy Boynton, and James Remar, and it explores demonic possession and the tragedy that follows such a horrific presence.
Daily Dead recently had the opportunity to speak with one of the producers for The Blackcoat’s Daughter, Bryan Bertino, who is no stranger (pun intended) to the world of modern horror. In 2008, Bertino’s directorial debut, The Strangers became a breakout success, taking in over $80 million worldwide and helping to launch his career as both a filmmaker and a producer.
During the interview, Bertino discussed working with Perkins on The Blackcoat’s Daughter, the struggles they faced throughout the four-year process of getting the project made, and how the initial script jumped...

I've come across a lot of really great shortfilms online by filmmakers within the stunt community. The action, for the most part, has been some of the best anyone will ever see apart from the big screen, and I always make sure to find projects that encompass that when I'm doing coverage at my own site, although few impress me as much as Bryan Sloyer has in about the past three years. When he's not on set doing stunts or other, he's making his own material to host on his YouTube channel where you'll find his most recent short, The Magician now online. But I'm not here to talk about that. I'm here to talk about Redemption, which he posted back in July of last...

Regardless of what you thought of the story for Zack Snyder's Batman v Superman, one thing we can all agree on is that it was visually spectacular. I love Snyder's visual style, but his storytelling skills still need improvement. I'm not here to talk about that, though! I just wanted to show you this awesome video reel from Cruel Films that shows off the cool VFX work that was done for the film. The video shows the digital deconstruction of certain scenes and also shows some animation tests that were done for Doomsday. It also shows us what shots in the film were entirely CG. I enjoy watching these videos. It's fun to get a behind the scenes look at the VFX work that goes into creating movies like this. ...

Pearl Mackie was announced as the new companion for Doctor Who Series 10 back in April, with a specially filmed clip broadcast during Match Of The Day's Fa Cup semi-final. Aside from befuddling Gary Lineker, the purpose of a trailer like this, as opposed to a press release or a lavish announcement programme, is to show a character in action, and there was really no better way to define the character of Bill Potts than to show how she acted in the face of the Daleks.

Deadpool was one of the rare examples when it actually worked out for everyone involved (fans included), but Warner Bros. and DC Films' Suicide Squad seems to be a textbook case of the opposite — these filmmakers are just using the old "we made it for the fans" statement as an excuse to shield themselves from bad reviews.
I've been thinking a lot about Suicide Squad since I saw it. Joey loved it, but if you've read any complaints about the film elsewhere online, there's a good chance they mirror my own. I'll sum my feelings up like this: I think the movie is a sloppy, poorly edited mess. (There was reportedly a lot of studio meddling behind the scenes, and...

It's no secret that the original Star Wars trilogy is about as white as white bread. With the exception of Lando Calrissian, there isn't really a single person of color on screen (excluding James Earl Jones' voice, of course). I'm not here to demonize or hate on Lucas for that. Times were different back in the 1970s and 1980s, and what's done is done. However, with last year's Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Disney and Lucasfilm managed to diversify its cast in both sex and color.
This is a trend they are continuing with Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which is another film with a female lead. In addition, the main cast for that film looks to be as racially diverse as could be, consisting of Chinese actor Jian Wheng, Hong Kong actor star Donnie Yen, Mexican actor Diego Luna, and British Muslim actor Riz Ahmed.

Kelly Dodd may be a Real Housewives of Orange County newbie, but she's already got her alliances locked down. Dodd reveals to People Now that she has quickly developed strong relationships - and feuds - with some of her costars. "I would say, Megan [King Edmonds], of course, is always aligned with me, and same with Vicki [Gunvalson]," Dodd shares. "Tamra [Judge] is still on the fence - she keeps it copacetic and everything chilled just in case she wants to get away from those people."The other women, she says, are team Shannon Beador, with whom Dodd locked horns at last week's fiery '70s costume party.

Hillary Clinton is officially the Democratic nominee for President of the United States. The former Secretary of State accepted her party's nomination in an address at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia on Thursday evening. After being introduced by daughter Chelsea, Clinton, 68, held back tears and couldn't stop grinning as she took the stage to overwhelming applause. "We are clear-eyed about what our country is up against. But we are not afraid. We will rise to the challenge, just as we always have," she said, during a speech that was regularly interrupted with chants of "Hillary!" She continued: "Don't let...

The internet is reeling after reports surfaced from Mediaite saying presidential candidate Donald Trump sent money to an ad agency called Draper Sterling. For those who didn't watch Mad Men, the name is the same as advertising executives Donald Draper and Roger Sterling, who ran their own ad agency in the show. While it is funny that this money was going to a fictional company, I'd like to point out that the actual name of the company in the show was Scdp (Sterling, Cooper, Draper, Pryce) and before that Sterling Cooper, and later, Sterling Cooper & Partners — at no point was it ever "Draper Sterling."
Still, the name was enough to bring curious eyes to the agency, which revealed $35,000 was shelled out to an address that, oddly enough, connects to a New Hampshire home. After much hubbub and jokes, it was revealed that Draper Sterling LLC is a registered business, although...

Hooray for Memorial Day! A big thank you to all of those who have served. Actually, not to be confused with Veterans' Day, Memorial Day was actually founded after the American Civil War in order to decorate the graves of the fallen. That makes sense considering the causalities of that war were almost 600,000. There's your history lesson for the day...and the reason why most of us have us on Monday so there's your answer if anybody asks in a drunken stupor. That is to be expected, no? Of course I'm not here to teach you guys, I'm here to let you know about SuperheroStuff's Memorial Day Sale! You knew that was coming, right? Everybody has off and business celebrate with sales. Why? I'm not entirely sure...I think we all got together and decided that at our Reptillian Conference on the Moon. We decided that we shall all have...

Roy English enjoys getting back to the basics. "When I first write my songs, they are usually just my voice and a piano," says the singer, who has released a stripped-down version of his song "Can't Lie" exclusively on People. "It is really cool to get to present how the song was originally and give people that vibe and emotion because there is a different feeling that comes out when you arrange it stripped down," says English. The original version of the song is on his recently released Ep I'm Not Here - Pt. 1. "It was so fun just getting...

Jon Stewart released some comedic vitriol on Donald Trump during an interview with former Obama senior advisor David Axelrod, cracking, "I would vote for Mr. T over Donald Trump."
Stewart taped his episode of Axelrod's podcast, "The Axe Files," live at the University of Chicago's Institute of Politics on May 9th. The interview is available to watch on YouTube, but an audio version has yet to be posted.
"I'm not a Constitutional scholar so I can't necessarily say, but are you eligible to run if you are a man-baby? Or a baby-man?...

If the rise of Donald Trump in this presidential election has you missing Jon Stewart at The Daily Show anchor desk, you'll be disappointed to hear that Stewart doesn't feel the same – and won't be coming back.
"I'm not going to be on television anymore," Stewart said flatly when pressed Monday to address rumors to the contrary.
Stewart, appearing at the University of Chicago's Institute of Politics for a taping of The Axe Files, said Trump's success in the Republican primaries and the prospect of his general-election fight with Democrat front-runner Hillary Clinton have hardly been cause to reconsider his...

Despite the fact that J.R.R Tolkien and George R.R. Martin elevated the Fantasy genre well above its typical mainstream inattention, there are still fans who must debate which is better. I'm not here to argue about any of that (feel free to in the comments), but I do want to share a surprisingly good Epic Rap Battles of History between the two authors! Honestly, it's hard to declare a winner in this one because both rap disses were equally strong and I was laughing through both!
By the way, while their literary works are up for debate, the Lord of The Rings video games are far superior to the Game of Thrones video games.

I'm not here to debate whether or not Sword Art Online is overblown and a bit overrated when compared to most of the anime on the market, What I am here to do is show you an abridged video by Gigguk that may or may not make you think that all on your own!
Okay, I actually did like the first season of Sao, but that second season sucked. You can't shake me on that one. My hatred for that season makes me enjoy this video a bit more.

The All for the Hall concert on Tuesday night is billed as a benefit for the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. But Keith Urban says count on it to turn into a lovefest for country music great Merle Haggard, who died last Wednesday on his 79th birthday. "It was no surprise that a lot of artists contacted me and asked if they could flip one of their songs to do a Haggard song," says Urban, who is bringing together a celebrity-packed lineup to Nashville's Bridgestone Arena for the sixth time since 2009. This Week I discuss the impending hours to the release of Batman v Superman, the negative response it's received so far, and how that shouldn't sway your seeing the film, nor affect your overall impressions of the film.
Don't Let The Tomatometer Invalidate Your Opinions
Like many other hardcore film fans, I sat back at my computer in the waning hours of the critical embargo of Batman v Superman. For days, we'd gotten all kinds of impressions from fans who had seen an advanced screening, as well as others who had attended the premiere. Overall, there seemed to be a consensus that Batman was awesome, the action was strong,...

The Teen Mom stopped by People Now to discuss her recent comments that she's "surpassed" the reality star – and, in the process, she landed another zing at Kardashian West's famous family.
"I don't really like to compare," Abraham told People Now. "I don't think that's fair because our journeys are so different. I do feel that I am happy, and I kind of feel like her family tries too much."
