Among the vast landscape of media and cinema, the Power Rangers franchise is a rare exception for being one of the most liked and revered media franchises of all time. Spanning over 29 seasons with numerous narratives, it has cast a plethora of actors as Power Rangers as well as in other roles.

Jonathan Frakes is a long-seasoned veteran of being both behind and in front of the camera. Frakes got to cut his teeth directing on the show that made him a beloved sci-fi character, Star Trek: The Next Generation, where he portrayed Captain Picard‘s second in command, Commander William Riker. Frakes would go on to helm some of the continuing spin-offs of the popular show, as well as the film adaptations. Recently, Frakes got to make a triumphant return as Riker in Star Trek: Picard, but would also direct several episodes.
Deadline now reports that Frakes is set to direct television adaptations of the novel and audiobook series, Deathlands. The novels come from crypto pioneer Jeff Garzik’s indie company, Next Cypher Productions. The show is planning to start production this year and set to begin shooting in Sofia, Bulgaria in the spring. Deadline would get a little detail about...

Exclusive: Star Trek icon Jonathan Frakes is to direct a 10-part series based on novel and audio book Deathlands.
The series comes from NextCypher, the indie that crypto pioneer Jeff Garzik launched last year, and is set to begin shooting in Sofia, Bulgaria, this spring. When we first told about the show in August 2022, Garzik described it as “Mad Max: Fury Road meets Yellowjackets in an epic post-apocalyptic sci-fi adventure.”
Mark A. Altman as the showrunner and executive producer. Thomas P. Vitale and Garzik are also executive producers. Christine Sheaks is handling global casting efforts.

In recent years, Netflix has lost plenty of licensed content, but many will be surprised to learn that some of the removals from Netflix have been Netflix Original titles. Here’s the complete list of every removed Netflix Original since 2017.
To get to the bottom of why Netflix Original titles leave, they usually fall into one of several categories.
The majority leave because Netflix does not own them. Instead, they’re distributed internationally exclusively by Netflix for a fixed period of time. Secondly, it could be temporary or permanent licensing problems. For example, Beat Bugs left due to licensing problems for a short period of time, whereas Slasher was removed for some time because the owner of the series went bankrupt. Thirdly, some titles are time-specific. These include New Year’s Countdowns, for example. We won’t list these below. Next,...

2023 was a tumultuous year for television, but amid the turmoil was some standout horror programming that celebrates the genre’s versatility, from “The Fall of the House of Usher” to “Swarm.”
The television landscape grows increasingly proliferated as streaming services continue to spawn and transform like hordes of zombies. There have never been more places to consume content, which in itself can be both exciting and overwhelming for audiences. Horror has been warmly embraced by television and the prospect of a graphic genre program is no longer the gambit that it used to be. Programming from across the world collectively taps into the universal fears that get under the audience’s skin, many of which become even more intense through extended binge-watch sessions. There’s something for everyone when it comes to 2023’s eclectic horror series, whether it’s killer dolls in the White House, inspired reimaginings of Edgar Allan Poe,...

‘Freddy vs. Jason’ 20 Years Later – The Ultimate Horror Battle Still Satisfies After All These Years
I was somewhat of a late bloomer when it came to my exposure to horror. I lacked the cool older relative or friend that seems to serve as a customary gateway for many genre fans. I had seen a few horror movies growing up (Child’s Play and Scream each terrified me at different points in my youth), but seeing Freddy vs. Jason at the tender age of 15 is single-handedly responsible for the horror fandom that has consumed my life ever since. Without the movie — which hit theaters 20 years ago today — I very likely wouldn’t be writing for Bloody Disgusting now.
I knew of Freddy and Jason through pop culture osmosis, but I hadn’t seen any of the combined 17 films that comprised the Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday the 13th franchises when Freddy vs. Jason piqued my interest. Even with the advent of Netflix’s DVDs by mail,...

Inspired by John Carpenter’s Halloween and other classic slasher films, the survival horror tabletop game 1978: The Night They Came Home is now funding through Kickstarter.
Emulating classic slasher films of the ’70s and ’80s, 1978: The Night They Came Home is a survival horror tabletop game that pits a slasher against a survivor on Halloween night.
One player takes on the role of the Survivor, a resilient person caught up in a sequence of escalating nightmarish events as they are pursued by the Slasher, a supernatural killing machine controlled by the opposing player. Using customized cards to generate prompts and build an emergent narrative, play moves from day to night on a forsaken Halloween in 1978.
During the day, both Survivor and Slasher build their backstories, drafting cards and accumulating resources for an imminent showdown. In the night, Slasher and Survivor enter the house for a deadly game of cat and mouse,...

The Amityville Curse seemed to bear a couple of its own curses. It’s an Amityville knockoff and after Amityville Cult, Amityville Thanksgiving, Amityville in the Hood, and so many more, it’s pretty much a guarantee of mediocrity. Secondly, it’s a Tubi Original, which usually carries a very similar guarantee.
But there were a couple of reasons to be hopeful as well. Director Éric Tessier may not be well known outside of Quebec but his adaptions of two of Patrick Senécal’s novels, 5150 Elm’s Way and more importantly, Sur le Seuil aka Evil Words, are both excellent. Dennis Heaton wrote the film, based on the novel by the late Hans Holzer. Heaton you may recall wrote the Billy Connolly zom-com Fido.

Nine years ago, actor Adam MacDonald made his feature writing and directing debut with an entertaining survival thriller called Backcountry (watch it Here), which starred Missy Peregrym as a woman lost in the wilderness and menaced by a bear. Two and a half years ago, we heard that MacDonald and Peregrym were going to be teaming up for a new survival thriller called Out Come the Wolves – which, as you might guess from the title, will have Peregrym facing off with a pack of ravenous wolves. Now Variety has confirmed that filming is now underway.
MacDonald is directing Out Come the Wolves from a screenplay by Enuka Okuma, based on a story they crafted with actor Joris Jarsky of God’s Country. The story centers on a woman who brings her male best friend to meet her fiancé at her family’s secluded family cabin in the woods. As tensions grow between the two men,...

Slasher: Ripper follows a mysterious serial killer in 19th-century Toronto amidst other violent acts committed by the people of the city. But “Widow,” as the killer is dubbed by Enid Jenkins, the town’s journalist, isn’t killing random people; everything relates to a particular event that took place 12 years ago. Young Detective Kenneth is right on target in his search for the Widow, but his boss isn’t keen on finding out who is after his city because he may have been involved in the crime that went down 12 years ago. Slasher is definitely for pure indulgence, as every episode ends or begins with a grisly death that the viewer looks forward to; sometimes, it almost feels like an overacted play.

I have an opinion: "Slasher" is better than "American Horror Story."
Maybe that's not so controversial to say in 2023, when the popular horror anthology series created by Ryan Murphy hasn't had a good season in almost five years, and hasn't had a great one in over 10. "AHS" premiered in 2011, the same year that the sci-fi/technology-run-amok anthology series "Black Mirror" premiered. Curiously, though "Black Mirror" was just as popular, and was covered as furiously as "AHS" was in its prime, its influence on subsequent sci-fi visions seems to have jumped mediums to film. One can imagine pressing play on a new season of "Black Mirror" and watching films like "Ex-Machina," "The Circle," and "Vivarium," were a few minutes shaved off each.
"AHS," however, spawned a veritable renaissance in horror anthology series, from HBO's "Room 104," to Hulu's "Castle Rock," to Syfy's "Channel Zero." Before "AHS," you'd have to...

As Slasher prepares to open the invite-only sneak preview to its web browser version of the social network for horror, a list of new features and changes has been released. The main areas of Slasher that will see the most notable changes include: Events, Groups, Dating, and perhaps most exciting, Movies.
In addition to giving horror fans the ability to write reviews and hide spoilers from others, the extremely popular Movies section of Slasher will have a couple of innovative new features to make it easier for everyone to find movies they might like.
For the first time, horror fans will have a simple visual rating system, which they can use to decide how gory a movie is. Whether you love to see blood and guts or not, Slasher’s new “Gore Factor” feature can help everyone find the kind of movies they’re looking for.

She is ruthless in her killings and has left a subtle note in the first one of her murders to warn the perpetrators of the said murders. A detective named Kenneth is slowly but surely getting on the “widow’s” trail (as she is dubbed by the local journalist). On the other hand, the Botticelli household has a new sister in town, but she is being treated as an intruder and punished for sins she did not commit by her elder sisters. Shudder’s anthology series Slasher has debuted its fifth season, entitled Slasher: Ripper, starring Will & Grace’s Eric McCormack. The season, set in the late 19th century, follows Basil Garvey (played by McCormack), a charismatic and forceful magnate whose ambition and cruelty are unparalleled. He presides over a city on the brink of a new era amidst a period of social turmoil that will soon result in violent unrest. Meanwhile, a murderer roams the city’s streets, but unlike Jack the Ripper, who preyed on the underprivileged, this killer, known as The Widow, is dispensing vengeance on the wealthy and influential. The Slasher franchise has had a rabid fanbase since 2016 when the series launched.
The fifth chapter takes the franchise back to the late 19th century, with a killer stalking the streets.
Instead of targeting the poor and downtrodden like Jack the Ripper, a serial killer named The Widow is going after the rich and powerful.
Eric McCormack is one of the new faces on Slasher Ripper, taking on the role of Basil Garvey.
The actor told TV Fanatic ahead of the premiere that he wasn't familiar with the franchise before signing up, but he was intrigued by the setting.
Horror is new to McCormack, but he was attracted to the show based on the character alone.
"What I loved was just how brutal this guy's language was," he said with a laugh.
"I couldn't wait to say those lines!"
After reading the first episode, the Will & Grace alum said...

David Cronenberg is anything but conventional, so when an unprecedented global pandemic struck, he knew it would take an inventive approach to overcome these new obstacles. Covid-19 changed the way we approach everything, from school to the legal system to entertainment. Every industry had its own new set of protocols, and film and TV productions were no exception. Cronenberg wanted to know how difficult it would be to make a film in the shadow of the pandemic, so he decided to do his own research in the field.
"Crimes of the Future" was shot in August of 2021, Variety reported. About a year and a half into the pandemic, filmmaking was back in action, but protocols were still very strict. Cronenberg knew it would be difficult to navigate this brand-new landscape of production, but this project was a long time in the making. It actually got greenlit by Serendipity Point Films...

Released in 1980 the original Terror Train was one of the many slashers to be released in the wake of Friday the 13th and Halloween.
