Some good, mostly bad
LittleLotti17 October 2018
The beginning of this movie tricks you into thinking you're about to watch a mildly decent slasher flick, but it quickly turns into a run of the mill tropefest with mindless victims, dumb cops, and crazy, illogical situations. Tom Bateman was great as the stylish hitman, but the story and characters just weren't that great. I've definitely seen way worse Halloween movies and I was still entertained, it's just not one I'd recommend to someone.

spoof or thriller??
jeffwithrow19 January 2019
Warning: Spoilers
It wasn't funny enough to be a spoof, but too ridiculous to be a thriller. I really wish it had ended with her talking into the phone "yes, NOW all the loose ends and tied up".

The Body is the perfect treat for the Halloween season!
RottenPop-Sid5 October 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Into the Dark: The Body is a horror film produced by Blumhouse Pictures and the Hulu streaming service. It was released on October 5th, 2018, and serves as the first entry to this project known as Into The Dark. This first episode is directed by Paul Davis and stars Tom Bateman, Rebecca Rittenhouse, Aurora Perrineau, David Hull and Ray Santiago.

A hitman, who had just killed someone, needs to transport the body of his victim on Halloween night. Left without a working vehicle due to Halloween antics, he is abandoned. However, three friends on their way to a lit "A-F" party, mistake the hitman and dead body for a costume and prop. They invite him to have just one drink, before helping him get on with his night.

I thought this was a good first outing for the Into the Dark series. The Body has some really bloody effects that are sure to please the gorehounds. It looked like everything was practical, but there might have been some minimal computer assistance. Either way, the killings were gory and merciless. If you like blood. This will be right up your alley.

The acting wasn't the best, but it wasn't horrible. Ray Santiago was funny. It was cool seeing him outside of Ash vs. The Evil Dead. I liked Rebecca Rittenhouse as Maggie. But, Tom Bateman was a cold and calculating killer. His presence as Wilkes the Hitman is terrifying. Director Paul Davis did a great job of delivering scenes of sickening suspense and gore spliced with drama and dark humorous comedy.

Interesting Enough To Stay Onboard
zkonedog7 October 2018
I usually review television content by season, not individual episode, but Hulu's "Into The Dark" anthology series is something altogether unique. Each month for a year, presumably, a new episode will drop centered on a holiday theme. As such, it is probably best to review them episode-by-episode considering they are mini-movie length (this first one being nearly an hour and half).

Kicking things off in the series is "The Body", which sees an assassin (Tom Bateman) lugging around the corpse of his latest victim in order to get paid for the job. What better time to blend into the crowd than Halloween! Somewhat comically, he gets mixed up with a group that includes a smug party connoisseur (Ray Santiago), a preppy idiot (David Hull), a fiercely independent woman (Aurora Perrineau), and a slightly-unhinged-herself history buff (Rebecca Rittenhouse).

While not being the most compelling fare I've ever seen (even recently), "The Body" is interesting enough to hold one's attention easily all the way through, and is very smartly-written (as per usual for a Blumhouse production). I actually very much enjoyed the first half of the episode, even as the resolution let me down just a bit.

There's a little bit of everything in this one: gore, drama, action, humor...you name it. It also fits into its holiday theme (Halloween) perfectly. While the main issue of the piece might be that its plot is kind of all over the place, the acting and atmosphere are good enough to keep it watchable all the way through.

At this point, I'm still probably as intrigued by the concept of "Into The Dark" as I am the execution. That being said, "The Body" did just a good enough job to make sure I'll be returning in November for whatever Blumhouse has cooked up for Thanksgiving.

Surprisingly amazeballs.
Fella_shibby7 July 2019
A hitman kills a man n wraps the body up like a mummy and drags it through the hotel lobby and into the street. He is seen by several people, but they assume it is all part of his Halloween costume. Three young people on the way to a party ask him to join them and he accepts the offer to avoid police. This episode has sufficient kills, it is darkly comical, has an intriguing plot but the length is a bit tedious.

Really Familiar

Warning: Spoilers
I thought this was too familiar. There was a movie by the same title, "The Body", a few years back. This is a remake of that movie...

Stupid and not even scary.
Starscoffeecats4 March 2019
The Body is such a chaotic mess. It's a shame because the basic premise could have been clever and even darkly comical. Instead the plot is filled with stupid characters getting into unrealistic situations. Honestly I'm sorry I watched it all the way through.

Great little story for Halloween
james_gant6 October 2018
I started watching this assuming it was a 42min episode and not a feature length story but I am glad it wasn't cut short. It starts off normally enough but soon picks up speed and Tom Bateman conveys a lot of character with his facial expressions. The supporting cast deserves a mention with Rebecca Rittenhouse and Ray Santiago attacking the feature with some fun energy. While you can certainly see a lot of what is going to happen in advance if you're a horror fan it manages to stay engaging and if you remember you're watching something that's meant to be more than a little light hearted it can be forgiven.

All in all well worth a watch even outside the witching season.

Good smart assassin Halloween movie
valeriewessel16 October 2020
I thoroughly enjoyed this show/film. Most of the characters are great! The second half was a little slower, but if you are a fan of dark humor serial killer movies, you will want to add this to your list! Bateman did an excellent job as the killer!

Maggie Killes the Movie
apnickfosian6 June 2019
Warning: Spoilers
The movie is not good. The story has been done. Sort of reminded me of Trick R Treat but in a less creative way. Could have been much better. The feminist Maggie character is annoying and even uses the term "mansplaining" (stupid word, ill blame the writer too)

The end is the fakest crap of the whole movie. A petite woman (Maggie) who was severely stabbed kills the professional 2X her size hitman, wraps him up in tape, and drags his body blocks away to a dumpster. I know its hollywood, but c'mon Hollywood, people appreciate realism.

Is this a hatchet job
berfish-4688829 June 2019
Just recently discovered this series and I do not think it deserves all low ratings and bad reviews. A lifelong fan of horror and suspense, low and high budget and I think this pretty good for what is obviously low budget. It makes me think that this series is a victim of a coordinated internet hatchet job. A thing that is happening more and more.

If You Like Lucifer........
jettagligirl21 December 2019
What is there to say about this movie other than if you were drawn into Lucifer within the first few minutes so to was the same for me for this title. Perhaps it's the same stare that says "I don't know if I want to screw you or kill you or maybe both." You are drawn in.....maybe it's the chiseled jaw line, that deep voice or the entire bad package. As far as Maggie, she is the equivalent of Lucifer's side kick. She's gorgeous, and smart and has a dark side herself. I finished watching it to watch "Wilkes" not necessarily to see what happens with the body. As for the horror...no not really. It's more of some gore with a little suspense and it's still entertaining to say the least. I really enjoyed the movie and I will be looking for more of Tom Bateman in the future.

Ehh, only if you want to waste time
sashandavis7 March 2019
I literally created this account just so I could rate this title. The movie is horrendous. It started as if the hitman was going to have mild trials to overcome in order to complete his job and that he wouldn't let anyone or anything stand in his way. However, its the polar opposite. He's obviously a novice who has luck at knife throwing, he has a rookie work ethic and not only that, he befriends a woman who (safe to assume she's smitten) he essentially allows to accompany him around, which is not top tier hitman actions. Im actually over it and I have about 35 minutes left; no hope in a saving grace. Hulu into the dark is suppose to get better with every film in my opinion and just based off common sense. The best film in the series is arguably "Flesh & Blood." Do better hulu.

Enjoyable Copy Of The Original
omendata4 August 2019
As soon as this began I realised it was actually a longer version of the old "The Body (2013)) starring Alfie Allen (Lily Allens Brother) and was skeptical whether it would be as good as that short and whether Tom Bateman could equal Alfie Allen's excellent menacing performance in the original and to be fair it is for once but then it is written by the original writers of the first Film Short anyway.

This is the first episode I have watched in the new "Into The Dark" series and it bodes well for the rest of the episodes if they are all as good as this one. It even has the twist in the tale that Tales Of The Unexpected and Hammer House Of Horror used to have and which I am a big fan of.

All in all a good start to the series and contrary to the other reviewers I thought Rebecca Rittenhouse was scorching hot and rather a good little actress in the role!

Collateral meets Slasher
hnt_dnl15 September 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This above-average horror-thriller tale pits a suave hitman against a group of airheaded millennials. I immediately thought of one of my all-time favorite films Collateral with the Stockholm Syndrome subplot between the assassin and the bored working girl. Their subplot is basically the same as that one, well sans the parts of Tom Cruise and Jamie Foxx making out with each other! LOL Then there's the parallel subplot of the bumbling trio 20-somethings with their thinly veiled attempts at bringing levity to the situation. I kept thinking their parts were very much reminiscent of self-aware slasher flicks like Scream.

Honestly, I couldn't tell if this flick (the first of an anthology horror series) was meant to be scary, funny, or both. Actually, while I found myself eye-rolling at some of the dialogue, there was a good chunk of that was pretty witty and funny. Horror is my favorite film genre and Collateral is one of my all-time favorite films, so combining the two was a treat. I preferred the relationship between the hitman and his #1 fan over the "funny" millennials, who annoyed me much of the time. Thankfully, there was enough serious to balance out the stupid. Hitman didn't mess around, just like Vincent from Collateral.

Meh definitely a good time waster with some cool aspects
UniqueParticle20 June 2019
I originally saw this last October and now I'm rewatching it. Wilkes (Tom Bateman) is the best thing about this one, there's so many dumb people and lines that make you think wtf seriously?!?! I think this deserves a fair rating, despite its ridiculousness and honestly the ending rubbed me the wrong way, I won't say why to avoid spoilers. One of the few times where I was actually rooting for the killer!

Into the dark - The body
Spellbound889 December 2018
I had high hopes for Into the dark, being an anthology series fan, but those hopes were sure shattered rightaway after episode 1. The genre isn't horror, first of all, no matter what kind of horror you might be into, this ain't it. The cast is rigid and wooden, and the viewer is often time confused as to what exactly the director was trying to convey here, and not in a sense that the plot would be so "sophisticated and intricate" you'd have to dwell on it for days, but more in a way one could slightly suspect and wonder if the episode would end with a bizarre plot twist and a cheap joke. This is a hard pass indeed. As someone who is patient with plots and enjoys slow burning shows and movies, even I seriously struggled to stay awake during this episode as it seemed to go on forever and amount to absolutely nothing. A vapid, unamusing, contemporary mess.

Better than most, but I see your point!
MsHoneyBee6 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This movie did have some weak points for sure, but I actually liked it much more than the other movies in this series, Pooka being my favorite so far.

My issue did lie with the ending. When it came to past who was ending the movie, I was a bit turned off by that... it's like come on. Not because it was her but because of how she did it. It was almost like she just wanted to do the same thing to him that he did to her but there was nothing that alluded to that about left her looking like an idiot...

All and all I did enjoy it, even the dummies were comical and okay to deal with.

Interesting effort
jwwalrath-227-854877 October 2018
An interesting effort. Won't watch this again, but I don't regret seeing it.

Cast and characters ain't half bad. The three characters on the run have distinctive personalities and Tom Batemen is fun as a nihilistic hit-man.

The film is an adaptation of a short film, it shows as it clearly feels like the story is stretched a bit thin at points. It could've been shorter. Writing is double-edged here. Lines can be pretty weak at points. However, this film, which is a dark comedy, does have some funny little ones as well. There ara also a couple pretty good kills in this.

Movie ain't perfect, but it's quirky enough.

Shocker!
onebengalcat10 November 2019
I went in honestly not expecting much. Boy was I surprised. This movie was surprisingly good. Mostly due to Tom Bateman. "My opinion" Id have to say this is one of the better into the dark series movies. If not the best. I haven't watched them all yet.

All the way until the very end, I was thinking that this was at least an 8. I was hoping for an average ending or more. It turns out, the girl didn't die...because...you know, magic. And not only that, but she figured out where he was gonna be. Yeah, well this is not for 5y.o. , so...

The Body
bobcobb30125 October 2018
Warning: Spoilers
When I heard that Hulu was doing an anthology series I was hoping that there would be some kind of twist, but there really wasn't. This was straight up horror.

It was maybe a half hour too long, but this was a fun episode if you can let yourself go and not overanalyze things. The right amount of comedy and the right amount of suspense to keep me intrigued.

Chilling!
brnewlun2 March 2021
Centered around Halloween, starts with a hitman taking out his target and has to deliver the body to a location at a certain time. Along the way he hits some bumps in the road, meets a girl with a weird fixation on what he does for a living. For the first film of the series, it's a good starting point.
