Pretty good
8 May 2022
First, I like that there seems to be no woke politics forced into the show. Rare these days.

Reminded me of cartoons from a better time. Just entertainment and some good values sprinkled on top at the end. More of this, please.

It starts so good

But goes down hill very quickly. I've only watched the first episode so far, but there's already some pretty large red flags. What a shame. Modern Hollywood appears to be incapable of respecting source material.

Great war movie

I don't care if it's propaganda, US movies are propaganda, too. At least this one was entertaining to watch. Something I cannot say about most movies produced in the US currently.

Haven't read the books,

So it's not about whatever differences there are to the books, but the second half of this episode was hard to keep watching. I started skipping scenes and will give the next episode another chance but only because the first half, with empire, was so good. Damn, have they made some bad casting decisions...

Bed reviews

I don't understand the bad reviews. It's a family drama/isolation story set on Mars and the actors, the characters are really good. I found it to be very engaging and not "boring" or dull at all. The acting, even from the child actress, was top notch. Every question you may have is indirectly answered if you listen to the dialogue. The way the story unfolds has surprises that aren't cheap and every decision a character makes makes sense from that char's POV. There's no cheap "feelgood" inserted in the story. Judging by some of the reviews, viewers today expect everything explained in exposition, everything explained in detail and some explosions every 5 minutes to hold their attention. Seriously, that a movie like this gets so trashed here makes me sad.

But this has a bit too much modern "politics" creeping in. It's hard not to notice.

Just because he's White? I'm so sick of the racism disguised as anti-racism in movies made in the US.

Good idea

Bad execution. Daisy Ridley is a charisma black hole and I have no idea if she is purposefully written to be obnoxious or if it's just her but there's a few lines/scenes that made us cringe so hard and made the character so unlikable. "We are the aliens" is just one example. Still the setting is interesting and made me want to know more so I kept watching and for all the flaws the movie has, I don't consider the time wasted.

Full woke.
22 February 2021
The show is funny and I like it. But this episode had so many wtf moments. One or two could be ignored as edgy humor, but it was so many I have to assume they let some woke activist co write. "I've never met a white man I couldn't trust" followed by the daughter eye rolling. Get it? It was sarcasm. Hahahaha. And that's just one example.

Best Episode of the show
17 January 2021
There's only a handful of moments in classic Star Trek that bring tears to my eyes and this episode is one of them. Great writing and perfect execution. The writers of the new trek shows at CBS should take this as an example of how you do emotional scenes right. Not a single character cries and still I feel their despair and sadness.

Good Monster movie
10 December 2020
It knows what it is and doesn't try to be more than that. I can only assume the one stars are trolls review bombing another movie due to some woke twitter controversy. That, or there really are people who go to see a movie titled Monster Hunter expecting more than simple popcorn kino.

Some classics
15 July 2020
Are better left alone. I don't understand why they don't make something new and give it its own name. This is so loosely based on the book, I feel the people behind it read the wiki plot summary and that's it. And even that summary was mostly ignored. Most of what made Brave New World so significant as a work of fiction was lost here.

As a sci fi show it isn't even half bad. If it would stand on its own, I would give it a 7 or 8. But as an adaptation of Brave New World, it's a 3 and that is generous.

And does that so extremely, I'm at a loss how a show can drop off in quality so much. I rarely change my ratings, but in this case I had to come back to do so. Won't even try S3.

Better than STD, but not Star Trek
28 February 2020
Trump and Brexit have broken writers it seems. No matter the franchise given to them, they have to inject their politics. Even if it means altering a whole setting like Trek from hopeful to depressing. A nova destroyed the whole Romulan Empire? A magic trick so they can inject a galaxy wide migrant crisis into the show. The federation is suddenly xenophobic? Done so the liberal writer (#notmypresident) can feel at home. Star Trek, another franchise sacrificed on the altars of woke and TDS.

I've stopped watching the casino planet episode, 5 I think. 3 Stars is generous and my rating isn't lower to show that this isn't as bad as STD, but that's the only positive thing I can say about this trainwreck.

Star Trek is dead, just as Star Wars. What franchise will they destroy next?

Diversity
27 December 2019
Diversity in casting is fine, but why does it always stop at the bad guy faction? Making the bad guys, Nilfgaard, all white guys shows the writing staff's racism. It was the same in the new Star Wars movies. I cannot give shows and movies that are racist a good rating. And yes, it's also racism if you hate white people. Such a shame because Cavill really nails Geralt. He's such a good actor.

Warning: Spoilers
Not bad for a fantasy show. It's just... the world makes no sense. No sense at all. I actually liked the first episode, like the action sequences, the sets, the costumes... it looks really good. And then the show reminds you that they are all blind and have been for generations and you ask yourself, how did they build this, why do they wear clothes just like we do, why does it all look so much like things you know just with a rope for guidance... how do they gather food, hunt, weave clothes... why is there any decorative jewelry... why is sight viewed as dangerous... why why why

I don't mean to be nitpicky. The idea of a world of blind people is very intriguing and I was very interested what they would make of it. But the show would really have benefitted from some experts in culture, anthropology and history. The way they made the world makes me scratch my head too much to really enjoy it.

If you can ignore the holes in the worldbuilding, this isn't a bad show. Not at all.

But I can't ignore them, so this gets a 4/10.

Game of Thrones (2011–2019)

Season 8 drags it down.
10 May 2019
I had the rating at 9 originally. This was one of the best shows on television. Unexpected twist that surprised me, but still made total sense in-universe, had me on my toes. A total lack of plot armor made me fear for my favorite characters like no other show or movie had for a very long time. The politics, the intrigues, the whole story had me in its grip.

Then season 8 happened. From no plot armor, the show went to 110% plot armor. The politics are suddenly laughably bad and simple. Characters are propped up while others are torn down for what I can only speculate are the writers injecting hollywood politics into the show. Nothing against strong female characters, some of my favorite movies have female leads, but when it is so obvious that there's an agenda at play, like it is in GoT towards the end, it's just off-putting.

The writing was deteriorating since the show overtook the books, but season 8 is bafflingly bad. There's still a few episodes to go, but after episode 3 and 4 I've lost all hope and will stop watching the show alltogether.

Such a promising show that ends on such a low note is a shame. GoT has lost all rewatchability and I will probably never watch another episode of this show again and neither will I recommend it to anyone.

I've changed my rating from 9 to 5 because the first 4 to 5 seasons are still superb. But the underwhelming and badly written conclusion destroys everything good about the show that came before. A real shame and a lost opportunity. The writers should feel bad and ashamed.

Racial stereotypes, political correctness, anti-christianity, white man bad... This is not a remake, this is shoving a political view down our throats disguised as a remake of a beloved franchise.

I really enjoyed this. The gore is way less and I think even a child could watch this without getting even a bit scared (when I first watched Critters, I was very young and it really scared me).

Innocent fun and a nice homage to a great film classic.

Something new.
23 March 2019
I could with less flashbacks, but this is one of my new favorite shows. I can understand that this isn't for everyone, but the low rating is totally undeserved. We need more shows that try something new and are not just the same formula in a different style.

This is Carmageddon, 1984 and blood race all mixed together and, at least for me, it works.

Propaganda?
19 February 2019
I can't help the feeling this is an attempt to apply a narrative onto a tragedy. Do we even know what really happened there? Would the US or any EU state allow Russia to save a submarine that has experimental weapons, state secrets, on board? As a movie, it isn't half bad and if this were about a generic, fictional accident, I would give it a 6 or 7, but as an obvious attempt to present a narrative as objective history, villifying a nation that acted no different than any other would in the same situation, this gets a 2 from me.

So much wasted screen time.
19 January 2019
This is probably one of the better episodes, even a good season opener. But overall it still fails as a sci fi series and it still fails very hard as star trek.

Some scenes feel straight up copied from other movies and shows and most of them are just filler.

Thumbs down from me.
