Estéticamente es de las mejores películas sobre Drácula que he visto, aunque es verdad que se hace algo lenta o aburrida.
Lo que me ha entusiasmado más es la lectura del mito de Maddin: por primera vez veo que se plantea la posibilidad de que la relación de parasitaje o depredación sea mutua entre seres humanos y vampiros, y no solo por parte de los vampiros (esto se ve en el giro final, cuando en la cacería del pobre Drácula del Este -un Este tan Este como ¿Japón?- se vierte sangre colorizada y monedas y billetes, y en el guiño para cinéfilos en los créditos con la canción 'If I were a rich man' de 'El violinista en el tejado'). Y en parte lleva razón, ¿no han bombeado sangre a la industria del cine durante más de un siglo los vampiros? ¿No ha sido su imagen literalmente explotada?
Es bonito también que ponga el foco en el hecho irónico de que el mundo de los seres humanos sea más hostil a las mujeres que el vampírico, ¿Nos será más fácil vampirizarnos que liberarnos? La erótica de los vampiros es sensual, intelectual, y esta se contrapone a la escatológica, pornográfica, neurótica y represiva de los hombres vulgares, tales como Van Helsing.
