This film is a truly beautiful, haunting viewing experience. It is visually stunning with each frame like a painting. It's atmospheric, romantic and Faustian. As a rape revenge ghost story, I find it ahead of its time. It is minimalistic, yet layered in its storytelling. It is brutal and bleak and yet has the right blend of horror & fantasy with a love story to boot!

This Classic of Italian Horror Cinema is reminiscent of 1970's Euro-Horror. I have seen this film compared to The Wicker Man (1973) Suspiria (1977) KILL, BABY! KILL! (1966) The Sentinel (1977) & Alucarda (1975) to which I fully agree. Chock full of a weirdo cult, creepy nuns, claustrophobia, young women in peril, unfriendly villagers, paranoia, murder and monsters - I highly recommend this film to fans of Lovecraftian Horror.
