Image source: Amazon Be honest: Did you secretly watch Grease 2 a million times as a kid? Because even though it was kind of panned back in the day, there’s something about it, right? That Michelle Pfeiffer energy, the out-there songs… it’s weirdly lovable. Why Grease 2 Exists Is a Whole Story… Grease was a total accident hit! The sequel was a quick cash grab, and, well, the original stars weren’t interested. But, early Michelle Pfeiffer is pure magic, even if the script isn’t. Cool Rider – Masterpiece or Trainwreck? You either get totally hooked on this song, or it makes you cringe. What’s your take? The soundtrack throws 50s sounds at you, then pure 80s beats. It’s a mess, but kind of unforgettable. Turns Out, it Was Almost Even Weirder! Imagine this: Andy Gibb as the lead, , even Cher almost had a role! Stuff didn’t work out,...

Madonna released songs across numerous genres, so it’s no wonder the Material Girl has worked with so many other superstars. Rock stars, big-name rappers, and indie music darlings all lined up to collaborate with the Queen of Pop. One of the most beloved rock stars of the 1990s even wrote a No. 1 single for Madonna.
1. ‘Beat Goes On’
With that title, fans might assume Sonny & Cher wrote Madonna’s “Beat Goes On,” but it was actually co-written by Madonna, Pharrell Williams, and Kanye West. Interestingly, Pharrell and Kanye wrote a disco song with Madonna rather than a hip-hop song. With star power like that, it’s surprising “Beat Goes On” was never a single.
In a way, “Beat Goes On” is a return to the Queen of Pop’s roots. She was one of the artists who kept disco alive when many had proudly proclaimed its death. Fascinatingly, the...

You can always count on mother-daughter duo Heidi Klum and Leni Olumi Klum to bring glamour to any red-carpet event they attend. The 2024 amfAR Cannes Gala red carpet was no exception, as they dazzled in contrasting ruffled gowns that set them apart from a myriad of A-list stars.
Their presence instantly captured me when they stood for photos on the red carpet. Supermodel Heidi Klum nearly overshadowed her daughter in an ostentatious peach-colored gown. But Leni, a budding model in her own right, isn’t one to back down, commanding attention in a black see-through mesh gown.

Saturday Am: This weekend at the Memorial Day box office, the film industry seems to be questioning its existence, ready to jump out of a window. How can a genius, George Miller-directed tentpole prequel to the multi-Oscar winning Mad Max: Fury Road with great reviews and 4 1/2 stars PostTrak exits not be working?
The entire theatrical business is destined for streaming, oh, no! People will forever stay on their couches!
As Cher said to Nicolas Cage in Moonstruck as she smacked him in the face: “Snap out of it!” It’s not really right to make Furiosa, or Garfield, for that matter, the proxies of the Memorial Day box office.
Furiosa is still on track for $31M-$33M. For clarity purposes: The last time a film grossed in this vicinity was the 1980s with Return of the Jedi and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. However, we stand corrected: It’s the lowest No.

Nightlife guru Richie Akiva knows how to throw a soiree. Thursday night was no different, when Akiva threw his annual The After party following the amfAR gala during the Cannes Film Festival.
Tucked away at a villa in Cannes, a stone’s throw from Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc (where the prestigious amfAR gala was held), the afterparty, thrown by Akiva and co-host Badius, lured celebrities and featured a rotating roster of DJs who kept the party going until 9:30 a.m.
Among the celebrities in attendance were Michelle Rodriguez, music stars Tyga and Future, models Alton Mason and Winnie Harlow, and Cher with boyfriend Alexander “Ae” Edwards, who allegedly was at the center of a physical altercation with fellow attendee Travis Scott, according to reports. (The Hollywood Reporter has reached out to reps for Scott and Tyga, who was reportedly involved in the fight, for comment, but they have not responded.

Each year, the amfAR Gala is one of the biggest celebrity-studded and exclusive black-tie events during the Cannes Film Festival. Always held on the last Thursday of the festival, the evening brings together notable names and those with thick wallets to raise money for AIDS research and HIV prevention, treatment, education and advocacy. This year, the 30th edition of the gala — held at Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc — started off with cocktails and the red carpet, then a dinner and live auction.
Among the glittering stars attending the gala were Michelle Yeoh, Heidi Klum, Andie MacDowell, Diane Kruger, Colman Domingo, Maria Bakalova, Odell Beckham, Jr., Tommy and Dee Hilfiger, Paris Jackson, Magic Johnson, Coco Rocha, Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, Bella Thorne, Julian Lennon and more.

For more than 60 years, Bob Mackie has reigned as the over-the-top couturier for Hollywood’s elite. After gaining attention as the costumer for The Carol Burnett Show, The Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour and Cher’s solo variety show, the designer became the go-to choice for divas like Judy Garland, Diana Ross, Barbra Streisand, Madonna and Elton John, and created clothes for 60 Barbies. In the process he won an impressive nine Emmys, a Tony and a Cfda lifetime achievement award, plus three Oscar nominations.
Now with a long-awaited documentary devoted to his life in showbiz, Bob Mackie: Naked Illusion, arriving this summer (a distribution deal has not yet been finalized), the so-called Sultan of Sequins, Rajah of Rhinestones and Guru of Glitter seems to be having yet another major moment, with his archival pieces worn today by the likes of Anya Taylor-Joy and Zendaya.
“It’s kind of weird,” the 85-year-old designer tells THR.

We are doing stuff that is indicative of fun,” Arooj Aftab says, quite seriously, in the flat staccato cadence of a test proctor.

Forget about all the studio-thrown premiere after-parties at prior Cannes, from Paramount’s Rocketman with Elton John performing at the beach, and Warner Bros’ Elvis which touted a King of Rock ‘n’ Roll drone show. amfAR’s annual gala, this year counting 30 years, blew them all away, capped off early Friday Am by a mind-blowing mini-concert by Cher who got the crowd on its feet after a four-hour auction with such hits as “Believe” and “If I Could Turn Back Time” and covers of Abba’s “Waterloo” and Marc Cohn’s “Walking in Memphis”. Vocally and in regards to sheer stage dynamic, Cher, at 78, is a force to be reckoned with; delivering a truly unforgettable pitch-perfect performance.

Which performance received the best reviews at Cannes? Cher managed to conquer this year’s film festival even without appearing on screen.
At 12:30 a.m. in the South of France, decked out in a dazzling sequined purple pantsuit, Cher took the stage at Cannes amfAR, the charity gala devoted to raising money for research for HIV and AIDS. “I thought you guys would be drunk, but obviously you’re not,” Cher said after performing an acoustic rendition of “Walking in Memphis,” the Marc Cohn ballad she covered on her 1995 album “It’s a Man’s World,” that had hundreds of guests cheering her on.
Three songs later — and one costume change into a black sparkling jacket over couture negligee — Cher had emerged victorious. The crowd at the Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc would have given her the biggest standing ovation of Cannes, except they never sat during her 15-minute set.

Next month, when the 2024 Tony Awards for excellence in Broadway theater are handed out, hair and wig designer Nikiya Mathis will be honored with a Special Tony for her work on the acclaimed play Jaja’s African Hair Braiding, Jocelyn Bioh’s seriocomic celebration of West African immigrant hair braiders in Harlem who create masterpieces atop the heads of the neighborhood woman.
Anyone who saw Mathis’ marvelous wig creations will understand immediately why she is one of three recipients this year of Special Tony Awards, non-competitive honors bestowed by Tony organizers for productions, artists and organizations who do not fall into any of the competitive categories.

But Silverstone, who was 22 when the high school comedy was released, said it wasn’t as easy as it looked. When the film was originally released, she admitted she was absolutely nothing like the character, but she was able to draw plenty of inspiration from writer/director Amy Heckerling’s acclaimed script. Don’t be surprised if you see Demi Moore on the Croisette — like, a lot. The veteran actress is set to make a mark at the Cannes Film Festival this year with a film in competition and a packed schedule to match.
Moore stars in filmmaker Coralie Fargeat’s The Substance opposite Margaret Qualley and Dennis Quaid. Little is known about Fargeat’s sophomore feature — she debuted with 2017’s stylish Revenge — other than that it’s being referred to as a feminist take on body horror.
Cannes has given The Substance a late-night slot for its world premiere on Sunday, May 19, confirming a busy weekend for Moore. As previously announced, the actress will also take on the role of godmother for luxury jewelry house Chopard’s Trophée Chopard gala ceremony. Apple has put out some of the most innovative and memorable commercials ever. We think of the iconic 1984 ad and the early iPod spots with silhouetted music lovers dancing to “Are You Gonna Be My Girl?” Now, Apple has done the exact opposite of those, inadvertently pushing people away from the product.
Apple CEO Tim Cook posted the ad – titled “Crush” – on X this week, accompanying it with: “Meet the new iPad Pro: the thinnest product we’ve ever created, the most advanced display we’ve ever produced, with the incredible power of the M4 chip. Just imagine all the things it’ll be used to create.” The ad itself features a wealth of human achievements – from music to mathematics – being crushed in a hydraulic press, ultimately creating the new iPad Pro. That it is set to Sonny and Cher’s “All I Ever Need Is You” definitely has meaning.

“This Is Us” star Chrissy Metz knew “The Masked Singer” would be a challenge. But that’s why Metz, who was revealed as latest celebrity to be unmasked on Wednesday night’s quarter finals, figured she had to do it.

The theme of the 2024 Met Gala was “The Garden of Time” — based on a story by J.G. Ballard – but, really, the theme of all Met Galas always has been: Go big or stay home!
While there have been myriad gorgeous gowns, jewels and natty tuxes over many Met Gala years, what do the most dress-obsessed actually remember? Cher half-naked. Lady Gaga’s change of dress performance art. Billy Porter’s royal entrance in Egyptian armor and entourage. Katy Perry as a chandelier. They all proved: It doesn’t pay to stay staid — even if staid means gorgeous.
So the question comes down to: Does one do good outrageous? Or outrageously bad? Both the bad and the beautiful always get the most ink — sometimes, you can’t tell the difference. With such risky looks, it’s a toss of the coin. If you’re Cher, you can pull off anything. Everyone...

Madonna has many obvious predecessors but Smokey Robinson is not one of them. Despite that, Robinson influenced one of the key ingredients of Madonna’s “Like a Virgin.” The Queen of Pop revealed what she thought of “Like a Virgin” and some of her other early songs in retrospect.
Madonna’s ‘Like a Virgin’ was inspired by Smokey Robinson and a bad relationship
Billy Steinberg and Tom Kelly co-wrote “Like a Virgin.” When they wrote it, there was no way they could have known how important the song would become. During an interview with SongwriterUniverse, Steinberg explained how the magic happened.
“It was in 1983 that Tom and I wrote ‘Like a Virgin,'” he explained. “It started with the lyric first. I was driving around in my pickup truck and I got the idea for the song. The idea came out of a personal experience. I was in a devastating relationship,...

Welcome to The B-Side, from The Film Stage. Here we talk about movie directors! Not the movies that made them famous or kept them famous, but the ones that they made in between.
Today we speak to Nancy Savoca, the great filmmaker whose sophomore feature Dogfight is now available via Criterion. The digitally-restored, director-approved Blu-Ray includes new commentary from Savoca and producer Richard Guay, a new interview with Savoca and actor Lili Taylor conducted by filmmaker Mary Harron, and a great essay by film critic Christina Newland, among other features.
We speak with Savoca about Missing Movies, her mentors John Sayles and Maggie Renzi, her first film True Love, directing singular performers like River Phoenix and Lili Taylor, and the HBO creativity boom of the mid-to-late ‘90s (including Carl Franklin’s Laurel Avenue and Cher and Savoca’s If These Walls Could Talk), and lesser-seen gems of Savoca’s that...

Cher has offered some insight into her dating history, including why she prefers younger men.
“I’m really shy when I’m not working and kind of shy around men,” Cher, 77, explained during an appearance on the Jennifer Hudson Show. “And the reason I go out with young men is because men my age or older — well, now they’re all dead — but before they just never, they were always terrified to approach me.”
She continued, saying that younger men are a bit bolder and jokingly suggested they were “raised by women like me.” Later on in the interview, she discussed how her current partner, Alexander “A.E.” Edwards, had introduced her to Tupac, and he quickly became one of Cher’s favorite artists. “I was so taken aback by the depth of the words,” she told Hudson.
Elsewhere in her chat with Hudson, she recounted turning down a date...

The 77-year-old music icon made an appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show on Wednesday (May 1), where she discussed her experience with dating. If you didn’t know, she’s been dating 38-year-old Alexander “Ae” Edwards since 2022.

“The reason I got with younger men is because, men my age are older…now they’re all dead,” she said, via Et. “But before, they were all just terrified to approach me, and younger men were the only ones.”
When Jennifer added that the younger men tend to be “bold,” Cher agreed, adding, “Yeah, and raised by women like me.”
She also talked about Elvis Presley among her many famous suitors, whom she turned down.
“I was nervous and I knew of the people around him, and it wasn’t that they were bad people, it was just that I was nervous of his reputation.

Cher offered a very concise and, to be honest, pretty reasonable explanation for why she tends to date younger men: The older ones are either cowards or dead.
The singer/actress dropped this nugget of wisdom on the Jennifer Hudson Show while discussing the time she turned down Elvis. Cher admitted it wasn’t so much a rejection as her own reservations taking hold — “I was kind of nervous of his reputation” — before going on to say she’s “really shy” when she’s not working and often shy around men.

Madonna‘s “Holiday” wasn’t a big hit, but it has a prominent place in our cultural memory. Case in point: one of Jessica Simpson’s songs is a massive rip-off of “Holiday.” Simpson herself discussed the obvious similarities.
Jessica Simpson said taking inspiration from Madonna’s ‘Holiday’ was for the greater good
In the early 1980s, dance music was dominated by a subgenre known as post-disco. It combined elements of traditional disco with synth-pop. Prominent examples of that style include Donna Summer’s “She Works Hard for the Money,” Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean,” and “Celebration” by Kool & the Gang. Madonna’s self-titled debut album is one of the most famous post-disco albums of all time. Post-disco was not a prominent genre in the 2000s, but Simpson managed to bring it back for one brief moment.
During a 2006 interview with MTV News, Simpson said Madonna’s “Holiday” subconsciously inspired her song “A Public Affair.

Christina Aguilera and Cher‘s Burlesque is a cult classic that taught us all about air rights and how to put on a show!
In it, Christina played a talented woman named Ali who sang and danced her way to saving a beloved club from utter ruin. She shared the screen with a talented (and very wealthy) cast. Many of them have had lengthy careers in Hollywood as actors, musicians and dancers that continue to this day.
We got curious and did some digging to see how much each of the stars from the movie was worth. The top earner has an impressive fortune topping out over $300 million to their name. Any guesses on how much everyone is worth?

Recently, Live With Kelly And Mark hosts, Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos discussed Kelly’s hair. Although Kelly currently sports her long blonde locks, she is considering a drastic change.
Kelly Ripa Is Getting Tired Of Dyeing Her Hair Blonde
On Wednesday, April 24, Kelly Ripa brings up her hair during the episode of Live With Kelly And Mark. While she usually shows up with a flawless blonde head of hair, she expresses the “endless” hair-dyeing process it takes to get it. Relatably, Kelly talks with her husband, Mark Consuelos, saying, “I got my hair colored last night and I cannot tell you how long it takes now to cover my gray hair.” Furthermore, exasperated by the process, she adds, “It’s endless… you came in last night like, ‘Are you done?’” Then she elaborates, “It takes hours and hours.” However, much to her dismay, it didn’t turn out as she planned.

Since the lockdown four years ago, Dionne Warwick has been known almost as much for her pithy tweets as for her velvety singing voice and the gorgeous Burt Bacharach-Hal David hits she transformed into pop standards. “I don’t get up in the morning and say, ‘I’ve got to tweet today,’” she tells Rolling Stone. “I do it when I feel there’s something I want to say.”

Twenty years ago this month, the fairy tale-like romantic comedy “13 Going on 30” starring Jennifer Garner made its way into cinemas. The actress played Jenna Rink, a socially awkward soon-to-be 13-year-old who quickly realizes that she “hates being 13.” She makes a birthday wish to be “thirty, flirty and thriving.” With the little help of some wishing dust, she wakes up the next morning to discover that her wish has come true.
It was a defining moment in Garner’s early career. Her role as Sydney Bristow in the television action thriller series “Alias” had made her a breakout star (including at awards shows) just a few years earlier. She won the Golden Globe for Best Drama Actress in 2002 and had competed again in 2003 and earlier in 2004. She had also been nominated for two Emmy Awards one Screen Actors Guild trophy.

Ozzy Osbourne is known to many as the Prince of Darkness, but now he’s got a new nickname: “The Betty White of Rock ‘n’ Roll.” That comes courtesy of Peter Frampton, a fellow inductee in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’s Class of 2024.
Frampton was asked by Rolling Stone about Ozzy getting in the Rock Hall for the second time (he was also inducted as a member of Black Sabbath in 2006), and the guitar hero responded, “The man is the Betty White of rock & roll.”
We’re not sure Ozzy will be using that as a tagline anytime soon, but Frampton was surely relating the metal icon’s long-lasting career and lovable persona to that of the beloved late Golden Girls actress. As far as potentially jamming with Ozzy on a rendition of “Crazy Train” at the Rock Hall induction ceremony this October, Frampton enthused, “That would be fantastic.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has revealed the names of 16 artistes who will be inducted in 2024. According to ‘Variety’, the diverse list includes R&b/rock pioneer Big Mama Thornton, pop superstars Cher and Dionne Warwick, as well as 1970s-rooted rockers like Peter Frampton, Foreigner, and Ozzy Osbourne, alongside 1990s icons such as the Dave Matthews Band and Mary J. Blige.
Jimmy Buffett’s inclusion among the inductees comes as a surprise. His entry is unexpected not only because the late singer/songwriter was not on the ballot this year but also because he had never been nominated before.
