Thus, Carly Spencer is carrying on the Spencer last name shared by her mother, Bobbie Spencer, and uncle, Luke Spencer, both legendary characters on the soap.

Glenda Jackson’s return to British TV after 27 years, with much of the interim spent as a Labour MP, was widely acclaimed as a tour de force upon its broadcast on BBC One last winter.
In “Elizabeth is Missing,” the 83-year-old actor took viewers inside the mind of a dementia sufferer determined to crack the mystery of one, or possibly two, missing persons despite her unreliable memory.
U.S. public broadcaster PBS, which aired Jackson’s Emmy-winning turn as Elizabeth I in the 1970s, has chosen the 90-minute drama to kick off its 50th anniversary celebrations next year. The show is also in the running for best single drama at Friday’s BAFTA TV Awards and Jackson is tipped to turn her third best actress nomination into a win.

Stv Productions is in the mix for two BAFTA TV Awards on Friday night, when double Oscar-winner Glenda Jackson competes in the Best Actress category for dementia drama Elizabeth Is Missing and Edinburgh-set The Victim vies for Best Mini-Series. For Sarah Brown, the Scottish producer’s creative director of drama, it represents the culmination of six years of work.
“It’s been an amazing 18 months for us. The Victim and Elizabeth Is Missing are the first productions we have made since I joined in 2014. As you know, drama takes a long time to come to fruition,” she says ahead of Friday’s BAFTA ceremony, which will take place online because of the coronavirus pandemic. “The Victim was supposed to go out in 2018, but for various reasons, it didn’t go out until April 2019. It turned out quite well for us because we had two shows going out in one year.

Since the 1980s the Daytime Emmys have presented awards for younger actors and actresses age 25 and under. But with only four soaps on the air and relatively few entrants into those categories, in 2019 the television academy decided to merge the categories into a single Best Young Performer award. And according to our racetrack odds, which are calculated by combining the predictions of hundreds of Gold Derby users, Olivia Rose Keegan (“Days of Our Lives”) will prevail.
Keegan is only 20-years-old, but she’s the veteran of this category. This is her third consecutive Emmy nomination, and she left the show in dramatic fashion in 2019 after her character, Claire Brady, held her aunt Ciara (Victoria Konefal) captive and tried to burn her alive … for the second time. “Days” shoots so far in advance that she had already finished filming with the show by the time she earned last year’s nomination for Best Younger Actress.

Tamara Braun earned a Best Supporting Actress nomination at the 2020 Daytime Emmys for playing Dr. Kim Nero on “General Hospital.” It’s her third nomination and her second for “Gh,” but it’s actually a different role from the one she originally played on the show. She portrayed Carly Corinthos from 2001 to 2005. That actually makes this the second time a former Carly left the show, came back as someone else, and earned an Emmy nomination for it.
Sarah Brown originated the role of Carly, playing the troublemaker from 1996 to 2001. She had such an impact on the show that Brown won three Emmys: Best Younger Actress in 1997 and 1998 and Best Supporting Actress in 2000. And the character shaped storylines on the show for decades to come. Then Brown returned to the series in 2008 as someone else entirely, mob heiress Claudia Zacchara.

Oscar-winner Glenda Jackson, who picked up Academy Awards for 1971’s Women In Love and 1974’s A Touch Of Class, returns to the screen for the first time in 25 years in BBC drama Elizabeth Is Missing.
The actor, who swapped film and TV for politics in 1992 when she became a Labour MP, was persuaded back to screen by Aisling Walsh after the Maudie director signed up to helm the 90-minute drama adaptation of Emma Healey’s dementia mystery.
Walsh told Deadline, “I thought of Glenda immediately when I read the script and knew she was no longer an MP and had seen her in King Lear and wondered if this was something she might fancy doing. We got in touch, I went to New York to meet her and we had a chance to talk about it. If you’re lucky you get the actor you first thought of.”

For Variety’s latest issue, we asked Ben Platt to write a tribute to Beanie Feldstein, one of 50 people to make our New Power of New York list. For the full list, click here.
I have been basking in the glow of Beanie Feldstein since I was 14 years old. We became instant best friends on the first day of freshman year, our shared seventh-period lunch setting us on a predestined path of lifelong love. Beanie’s unique brand of magic has been apparent to everyone from the start, even in our inaugural joint performance of “Guys and Dolls” at school in which she more than rose to the occasion portraying soprano ingénue Sarah Brown, when we all know that Beanie, a world-class comedian and belter, has Adelaide in her veins.
Beanie’s power takes many forms: unending benevolence and warmth, undeniable charisma and effervescence, and the deepest possible well of compassion and empathy.

This year Jacqueline MacInnes Wood earned a Daytime Emmy nomination for Best Actress for her role as Steffy Forrester on “The Bold and the Beautiful.” It’s her fourth nomination overall but her first as a leading lady, which puts her in elite company. It makes her only the fifth woman to achieve the triple crown of nominations as a younger, supporting and lead actress. But she still hasn’t won. Is this her year?
MacInnes Wood achieved all of her nominations in the span of just seven years. She picked up a pair of Best Younger Actress bids (2012-2013), which she lost to Christel Khalil (“The Young and the Restless”) and Kristen Alderson (“General Hospital”), respectively. When she returned to the Emmy lineup in 2018 she had aged out of the younger category (the cutoff is 26), so she was nominated for Best Supporting Actress, but lost to Camryn Grimes (“Y...

Should “General Hospital” recast the presumed-dead Morgan Corinthos with a recent “Days of Our Lives” alum? There are no official reported plans to resurrect the character as of this writing, but a Twitter exchange prompted speculation about the possibility of Billy Flynn moving from Salem to Port Charles to pick up where Bryan Craig left off. What do you think? Scroll down to vote in our poll at the very bottom of this post.
Mob scion Morgan was born on-screen on “Gh” in 2003, the son of crime boss Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) and Carly Corinthos (currently played by Laura Wright). He was portrayed by a few different child and teen actors over the years before he was rapidly aged into young adulthood with the casting of Craig in 2013. Craig stayed with the show until 2016, and ended up winning two Daytime Emmys for Best Younger Actor (2016-2017), thanks in large part...

Chloe Lanier exited “General Hospital” last fall, but she might not be done with the soap just yet, at least not at the Daytime Emmys. She won Best Younger Actress last year for her role as the scheming Nelle Benson, and she’s pre-nominated again for that performance. Will she win again for her conniving ways? “Gh” is the most awarded soap in this category’s history with nine victories, and Lanier would be the third from the show to win back-to-back.
Sarah Brown was the first consecutive winner for “Gh,” prevailing in 1997 and 1998 for playing Carly Benson, who turned out to be Nelle’s adoptive sister. Brown won a third Emmy for Best Supporting Actress in 2000 when she aged out of the younger category (the cutoff is 26), and she left “Gh” shortly thereafter. The role of Carly was then played by Tamara Braun (2001-2005) and Jennifer Bransford (2005). Then Laura Wright...

This comes a couple of years after the social media site launched the plan in the U.S.

“General Hospital” star Chloe Lanier just won a Daytime Emmy this past spring for Best Younger Actress, so it came as a surprise when it was announced that she will soon be exiting the show. But how should “Gh” handle her exit as the devious Nelle Benson, who has been wreaking havoc since she joined the cast in 2016? We asked our readers, and they answered, “Lock her up!”
Nelle has committed a variety of crimes during her relatively short time in Port Charles. She drugged Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) and convinced him that they had slept together. She also gaslighted Carly Corinthos (Laura Wright) to make her believe she was being haunted by her dead son and then lied to police that Carly had assaulted her by pushing her down a flight of stairs when she actually fell accidentally.

The 2018 Daytime Emmy Awards are on Sunday, April 29, but the winners in the soap opera acting categories were already decided by blue ribbon panels that viewed sample performance reels during the nominations round. That includes Best Younger Actress, where Chloe Lanier has earned her second straight nomination for playing the devious Nelle Benson on “General Hospital.” Will she win her first Emmy?
Lanier submitted a variety of scenes, starting with an angry confrontation in which Nelle defiantly admits to sleeping with Carly’s ex-husband Sonny (Maurice Benard) — or at least making him believe that she did. Nelle wanted revenge against Carly because Nelle’s father sold her kidney to donate to Carly’s ailing daughter Josslyn. She blames Carly and upon revealing her supposed affair with Sonny, she taunts, “What goes around comes around, bitch!”
Carly’s son Michael (Chad Duell) later urges Nelle to let go of her resentment,...

The 2018 Daytime Emmy Awards will be presented on Sunday, April 29, but the winners in the drama acting categories have already been decided by blue ribbon panels that viewed sample performance reels. In the race for Best Younger Actress, Olivia Rose Keegan is nominated for her role as Claire Brady on NBC’s “Days of Our Lives.” This is the first nomination for Keegan, who has played the role since 2015. She submitted scenes in which Claire deals with the aftermath of the release of a sex tape featuring herself and her boyfriend.
The tape showing an intimate moment between Claire and Theo (Kyler Pettis) is leaked on the internet by Jade (Gabrielle Haugh). Claire is defiant about it when her grandmother Hope (Kristian Alfonso) and Theo’s father Abe (Best Actor nominee James Reynolds) confront her, and she is heartbroken and angry because Theo believes she released the tape herself to further her music career.

A host of influential women gathered in London earlier this month as Sarah Brown’s charity, Theirworld, hosted an event ahead of International Women’s Day.
Among those who attended were singer and activist Annie Lennox, Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Cressida Dick, actors Kim Cattrall, Joanna Lumley and Gwendoline Christie, TV presenter June Sarpong and BBC’s Lyse Doucet.
The theme of the breakfast meeting was #ChangeTheCulture – a challenge to end violence against girls and women around the world.
Doctor Who star Pearl Mackie read a harrowing and defiant letter to the audience from a woman in the Democratic Republic of Congo, titled Hello To You My Rapist.
The letter was written by a courageous woman called Tatiana who was brutally assaulted by a gun-wielding soldier. It forms part of a book she is writing.
Cressida Dick, the first female commissioner of the Metropolitan Police, told the audience:

Kate Mansi won the Daytime Emmy for Best Supporting Actress in 2017 for playing Abigail Deveraux in “Days of Our Lives,” but that was after she had already left the show in 2016. The role was taken over later that year by Marci Miller, who is now pre-nominated for the first time for Best Actress. Can she pick up where Mansi left off?
It’s not uncommon for multiple actors to win Emmys for the same role. Just last year Gina Tognoni won Best Actress for playing Phyllis on “The Young and the Restless” after that role had won two Emmys for her previous portrayer Michelle Stafford. “Y&R” also had two Emmy winners as the characters of Billy Abbott (David Tom and Billy Miller) and Victoria Newman (Heather Tom and Amelia Heinle). There have also been two actors to win for playing “General Hospital’s” Lucky Spencer (Jonathan Jackson and Jacob Young...

While we wait for Cougar Town to start its fourth season on TBS in the New Year, you can catch Brian Van Holt as he makes a guest appearance in an upcoming episode of CSI. The Cougar Town star will be guest starring as Julie Finlay’s (Elisabeth Shue) ex-husband. Considering he plays Courteney Cox’s ex-husband on Cougar Town, I can’t imagine him having any trouble fitting into this role, though considering this is a crime drama, he won’t be as fun to watch on screen. Still, it’ll be good to see him while we wait for 2013 to arrive with more hilariously good times with Bobby and the rest of the Cougar Town gang.
The news broke over the CBS TV Studios Twitter account: “The exes are reunited as Brian Van Holt heads to #CSI as…Finlay’s ex-husband!” As reported by TVLine, Holt will appear...
