In 1967, The Beatles released Magical Mystery Tour, a film vaguely planned out by Paul McCartney and John Lennon. It was not a hit with the public, and, according to McCartney, even the people on set didn’t like it. He shared why the more professional actors they hired grew increasingly irritated with the band throughout the shoot. In hindsight, he said, they probably had reason to be upset.
John Lennon, George Harrison, Ringo Starr, and Paul McCartney | Potter/Express/Getty Images Paul McCartney said not everyone working on a Beatles film was happy to be there
When The Beatles released Magical Mystery Tour, they had already acted in two films together. This was different, though. They had no script for the project, just a vague idea of how it should go.
“There wasn’t a script for Magical Mystery Tour; you don’t need scripts for that kind of film.

Quentin Tarantino turns 60 today, and to celebrate the fact he was ambushed with cake by Jamie Foxx in front of 2,000 people at the London Palladium last night. Don’t go looking online for photographs of the occasion, though: the surprise came at the end of a two-night event promoting the director’s recent memoir Cinema Speculation, for which all in attendance had to turn off their mobile phones and put them into lockable pouches for the duration. Phones are famously forbidden on Tarantino’s sets, and his live appearances are no exception.

He hung out with real-life mercenaries for his turn as an action hero in new spy thriller Liaison. Here, he talks about anger, being hated – and what it’s really like to be Tasered
If Robert De Niro ever stars in a Bruce Forsyth biopic (and he must), he will look like Vincent Cassel at this moment. Over Zoom from Paris, the engaging 56-year-old French movie star grins mirthlessly and thrusts his chin forward. I’ve just reminded him that the last time we met, 20 years ago, he and his then wife, Italian model turned actor Monica Bellucci, were scandalising the Cannes film festival with Gaspar Noé’s Irréversible, in which his character’s friend sickeningly clubs the man, who he thinks raped his wife, to death with a fire extinguisher.
“That was a different era,” Cassel says amiably as if channelling Brucie, then modulates into De Niro’s Travis Bickle.

In 2004, one year before “Dancing with the Stars” premiered on ABC, the UK series “Strictly Come Dancing” initiated the ongoing celebrity dance competition craze. It derived from the BBC series “Come Dancing,” which featured non-famous performers and ran almost continuously for 49 years.
Over the course of 19 “Strictly” seasons, more than 250 performers, presenters, and athletes have worked with professional partners to hone their ballroom dancing skills. The first champion, newscaster Natasha Kaplinsky, defeated seven other dancers, with actor Christopher Parker coming in second. Scroll through our photo gallery to see the “Strictly Come Dancing” winners list, and find out which 11 men and seven other women had what it takes to clinch the mirror ball trophy.
Since its inception, “Strictly Come Dancing” has been co-hosted by Tess Daly and judged by Craig Revel Horwood. Co-host Claudia Winkleman began her tenure in 2010, replacing Bruce Forsyth. The other current judges — Shirley Ballas, Motsi Mabuse,...

Strictly Come Dancing kicked off its celebrations for the BBC’s centenary with the show’s “most ambitious group number”.
Saturday (22 October) night’s episode of the show was a BBC-themed special, with the remaining dancers performing to songs and theme tunes inspired by the BBC’s biggest shows over the years.
Things began with a routine by the professional dancer which started with BBC News presenter Huw Edwards explaining how Strictly was “taking over the BBC”.
“But some of us are too busy to dance,” Edwards explained. “We have some very serious work to do. Do you know what this is? This was named after me. It’s a Huw-kulele.”
The presenter was then joined by dancers Jowita PryzstaÅ. and Giovanni Pernice, while the hosts at BBC Breakfast watched on in confusion.
The professional dancers popped up in a number of BBC shows, including EastEnders, Masterchef and Antiques Roadshow.

Every year, Strictly Come Dancing brings its yearly spook-fest back to the dance floor.
By now, we’ve seen hundreds of dancers take part in the themed competition week, hoping to impress the judges with routines that are less trick, more treat.
For fans, Halloween is one of the biggest nights in the Strictly calendar. Design-wise, it doesn’t get more extra than this, with the perfect performance featuring a spooky costume and song choice that are well linked together. However, it’s not always easy and we often see a slightly spooky song title pushed together with a random costume that doesn’t exactly make sense or scream Halloween. After all, there are only so many times the show can do the “Monster Mash”.
The best Halloween dances bring all these elements together, from design, to music, to (naturally) the actual dancing. Among this top 10 we have a lot of tangos,...

British broadcaster ITV is bringing back Play Your Cards Right, the classic gameshow that was originally adapted from U.S. format Card Sharks.
The show, which was famously hosted by Bruce Forsyth, who died in August 2017, is being piloted with The Friday Night Project and Chatty Man star Alan Carr hosting the non-tx ep. This comes after Carr’s golden handcuffs deal with rival Channel 4 ended earlier this year.
Play Your Cards Right, which started in 1980 and ran for 248 episodes across a number of iterations, follows two couples as they played a series of games. The host would begin with questions based on surveys of 100 people. The first couple would guess how many of the 100 answered the question a certain way and the other couple would have to guess whether the answer was higher or lower. Then the teams were handed a series of five cards and they had...

Mel and Sue and Basil Brush, too. The new Generation Game will feature the boom boom fox of yore, it's been revealed...
Basil Brush will be a rather surprising new addition to the revamped Generation Game, set to air on BBC One later this year.
Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins are to host the new version of the classic game show, and The Sun had the scoop on Basil's re-emergence from the shadows, as puppeteer Michael Winsor broke down the skinny on the fox's decision to unretire for the new series:

Mel and Sue and Basil Brush, too. The new Generation Game will feature the boom boom fox of yore, it's been revealed...
Basil Brush will be a rather surprising new addition to the revamped Generation Game, set to air on BBC One later this year.
Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins are to host the new version of the classic game show, and The Sun had the scoop on Basil's re-emergence from the shadows, as puppeteer Michael Winsor broke down the skinny on the fox's decision to unretire for the new series:

Game shows are one of the few formats that can withstand being rebooted. Some people might even argue that game show reboots are becoming necessary, given the calibre of new ideas being farted out onto the screen. Last year, Downton Abbey recruited George Clooney to participate in a charity holiday short for ITV's annual "Text Santa" appeal. This year, the short is even more spoof-tacular, with appearances by Gordon Ramsay (who's good mates with Mrs. Patmore, apparently) and noted British personalities Sir Bruce Forsyth, Gok Wan, Brenda Blethyn, Jim Broadbent, Michelle Keegan, and Warwick Davis joining in for the fun. The goal: Win over the Crawley family to become the Abbey's official Santa Claus. (Just give it to Carson, don't be daft, he really wants it!). The banter is cheeky, and the accents are merry. The sixth and final season will premiere on PBS on January 3.

After the publication of a government green paper on its future, there are very real fears about the shape of the BBC in years to come...
People in television: picture this.
Imagine going into the offices of a television commissioner in, say, the early 2000s. Imagine suggesting that the key to Saturday night viewing on a major television channel involved a show about ballroom dancing, hosted by a man in his late 70s.
Take the context of the last ten or 12 years out of it, and just think for a minute what the reaction would be. Could you imagine a single American network touching it? Can you imagine a commercial broadcaster in the UK giving it a whirl?

Imagine going into the offices of a television commissioner in, say, the early 2000s. Imagine suggesting that the key to Saturday night viewing on a major television channel involved a show about ballroom dancing, hosted by a man in his late 70s.
Take the context of the last ten or 12 years out of it, and just think for a minute what the reaction would be. Could you imagine a single American network touching it? Can you imagine a commercial broadcaster in the UK giving it a whirl?
Yet in 2003, this is just the proposal that producer Richard Hopkins put together. He took it into the BBC, and, to be fair, got knocked back. A little while later, the BBC...

It's sad news for Miranda Hart fans, as the actress and comedian revealed she won't be hosting a Generation Game reboot anytime soon.
While Hart revealed she had spoken to the BBC about the show, she said that the story "got massively blown out of order".
Speaking to BBC News about her negotiations with the broadcaster, Hart said: "It was literally an informal chat with the BBC.
"We talked about it and whether the format would work for a modern audience - but that is literally all it was, just a chat, nothing more."
Hart added: "It got massively blown out of order in the press and, no, we are not doing it right now."
The classic game show, which has previously been presented by the likes of Sir Bruce Forsyth, Larry Grayson and Jim Davidson, was reported to be returning last year.

A self-made millionaire, Hugh Hefner is now believed to be worth more than £30million ($45million) – and all because he established Playboy Enterprises, showing off scantily-clad and topless women since 1953.
With the Playboy magazine first launched in 1953 – and the original edition selling more than 50,000 copies due to the fact it featured Marilyn Monroe’s nude calendar shoot – Hefner then went on to establish his various exclusive clubs around the world, as well as his “Playboy Mansion” in Holmby Hills, Los Angeles, California.
Yet the popularity of Playboy has long-since diminished, with fewer and fewer women wanting to become so-called “Bunnies”, and a declining number of men buying the magazine or attending the club (partially due to the growing presence of alternatives, and partially due to the fact attitudes have changed since the mid-to-late-20th Century).
Everyone has heard about or seen the likes of Monroe, Jayne Mansfield, Kim Kardashian,...

Strictly Come Dancing star Craig Revel Horwood has revealed that he has received threats of violence following some of his comments on the show.
Paul O'Grady recently admitted that he couldn't take part in the BBC One hit show because he would "smash [Craig's] face in" if he was harsh about his dancing.
Revel Horwood - who said that O'Grady would be "great" on the show - has now told Metro that it is not the first time he has been threatened.
"I have been threatened with violence by Jan Ravens's husband in the BBC bar [when she took part in 2006]," he said. "She didn't take criticism very well.
"You have to be able to think like a sports person and not blame any particular person - like me - if you don't do well because I'm not the one voting."
Horwood also expressed relief that he is not one of the professional dancers on the show,...

Craig Revel Horwood has underlined that Strictly Come Dancing is an entertainment show rather than a "real dance competition".
Horwood, who has been an ever-present on the programme's judging panel for its 12 series, told Metro that some celebrities on the show don't take too kindly to his barbs.
"There was a bit of iciness between Julian Clary and myself but then we got on the same page and it became handbags at dawn rather than 'I'll claw your eyes out'," he said.
"It's an entertainment show. It's not a real dance competition where someone will be doing a tango world tour and I'm going to produce them and make lots of money out of them.
"They are already famous - they don't have to prove anything."
Asked about the enduring success of Strictly, Horwood said: "If you'd told me ten years ago that Strictly would still be going I'd have laughed in your face.
