And here we are, the last big hurrah before the granddaddy of the awards season, the Academy Awards. As expected, "Zero Dark Thirty" won Original Screenplay but the most surprising winner was "Argo," beating the writing frontrunner, "Lincoln" by Tony Kushner. So more "Argo" power! It's definitely the film to beat this Oscars, and I'm happy that it's my No. 1 film of 2012!

Argo continued its domination of award season by claiming one of the last of the pre-Oscar prizes — the Writers Guild Award, where screenwriter Chris Terrio won the honor for adapted screenplay.
Terrio’s competition included Tony Kushner’s Lincoln, David O. Russell’s Silver Linings Playbook, David Magee’s Life of Pi and Stephen Chbosky’s The Perks of Being a Wallflower. All but Chbosky are also up for the Oscar next weekend, with Beasts of the Southern Wild’s Lucy Alibar and Benh Zeitlin taking that slot.

Well if you hadn't really heard of Homeland prior to this weekend, you probably have by now. The Showtime series pulled off a major upset at the 64th Annual Emmy Awards last night, winning a large chunk of the major awards in the Drama category over favourites like Mad Men, Breaking Bad, Boardwalk Empire and Game of Thrones. Claire Danes and Damian Lewis both took home awards for Lead Actress and Actor in a Drama Series, while the show also broke Mad Men's four-year win streak for Outstanding Drama Series. Elsewhere, Aaron Paul won his second Emmy for his supporting performance as Jesse Pinkman on Breaking Bad, while Julia Louis-Dreyfus won Best Lead Actress in a Comedy for Veep. Modern Family still took the Outstanding Comedy Series, however, while the HBO movie Game Change took the Outstanding Mini-Series or TV Movie. Kevin Costner did manage to pick up some...

Well, that’s it. This years Emmy race is over and there are some familiar names amongst the winners… Modern Family once again dominates the comedy categories whilst Homeland surprises everyone and walks away with Best Drama and Best Leads in a Drama for it’s two stars. It;s nice to see Louis C.K. get an award for the excellent work he does on his “sitcom” Louie.

The results of the television awards ceremony of the year are always something to look forward to – the quality of the small screen has only been improving over the past decade or two, and it’s nice to see credit given where credit’s due.
Mad Men, Modern Family, Downton Abbey, Breaking Bad, Sherlock, and 30 Rock led this year’s nominations, and it’s Modern Family and Homeland that have come away with the most wins, taking four awards apiece.
Homeland has been one of the most talked-about dramas over the past year, and leading stars Damian Lewis (doing a Hugh Laurie, being an English actor playing an American on Us TV) and Claire Danes came away with the Leading Actor/Actress prizes in the dramatic categories.
Modern Family continues its reign as the best comedy in recent years, and dominated the Supporting Actor/Actress awards in the comedy categories,...

With no previous writing winners in contention for Best Movie/Miniseries Writing, it's harder than ever to predict the frontrunner in this race. Of the nominated screenwriters this year, only Ted Mann, co-writer of "Hatfields & McCoys," has an Emmy on his mantel, but that was in the Best Drama Series race for "NYPD Blue" (1995) and not an individual achievement. Mann's two co-writers for the History miniseries -- Bill Kerby and Ronald Parker -- each celebrate their first Emmy nominations. Perhaps the most well-known Movie/Mini scriptwriter is Danny Strong ("Game Change"). Besides a failed bid in this same category in 2008 for "Recount," Strong is an actor whose many TV appearances have included "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," "Gilmore Girls," "Mad Men" and "Grey's Anatomy." As "Game Change" is expected to prevail for Best Movie/Miniseries, that could give ...
