Lydia Deetz, her stepmother Delia and her daughter Astrid stand over a casket, the burial services in progress. We can barely make out who the funeral is for but there he is on the headstone: Charles Deetz. While Charles was once part of the Beetlejuice sequel when the ghost with the most was to “go Hawaiian”, he was written entirely out of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice…for reasons that will soon be obvious.
Despite the original’s and sequel’s dalliances with the afterlife, Jeffrey Jones will not be in Beetlejuice – or pretty much any other legitimate movie – following his disgraceful tumble from his small but reliable spotlight. Perfectly fitting into prestigious period pieces and goofball funny flicks. Jones is a Golden Globe nominee with consistent work – a mix of villain, comedic and at times patriarchal roles, Jeffrey Jones went from Ferris Bueller baddie to Who’s Your Caddy?
So let’s find out: Wtf Happened to…...

Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers were friends for decades, drawn together by an electric current of energy . Parton and Rogers had such good rapport that rumors of an affair between them circulated for years. Both denied having ever acted on their feelings, but they said they felt the chemistry between them from the moment they met.
Dolly Parton met Kenny Rogers on the set of her TV show
In 1976, Parton waded deeper into the pool of her talents by hosting a variety show, Dolly. One of her earliest guests was Rogers. She said that his appearance on her show marked the beginning of their crackling chemistry.
“Kenny Rogers was also a guest on that early show,” she wrote in her book Dolly: My Life and Other Unfinished Business. “That began the chemistry that would make such a hit with the public in our future projects together. There was something about the combination that just worked.

Dolly Parton has collaborated with many musicians over the years, and she says she often gets along well with them. Some, like Reba McEntire, are lifelong friends and others, like Kenny Rogers, became the subject of tabloid fodder about her love life. One artist with whom Parton sang a duet on her 1976 variety show, Dolly, always had a place in her heart.

In 1976, Parton welcomed country musician Tom T. Hall on her variety show, Dolly. They each performed a handful of songs and sang duets on “Sneaky Snake” and “I Love.”

While “A Little Less Conversation” is one of Elvis’ most famous songs today, it was meant for another singer. Notably, the tune became a hit in the 1960s and again in the 2000s.

Randy Sparks, whose group the New Christy Minstrels was a huge part of the folk revival of the early 1960s, died February 11 at an assisted-living facility in San Diego. He was 90.
His son, Kevin, confirmed the death to The New York Times. Sparks was living on his 168-acre ranch in Jenny Lind, CA, until a few days before his death.
The New Christy Minstrels were constantly on TV in the 1960s and sold an estimated 2 million albums in their first three years. The group’s first album, Presenting the New Christy Minstrels, won the Grammy Award for best performance by a chorus and stayed on the Billboard albums chart for two years.

From the first seed of an idea to the creative chaos of cramming 40-plus celebrities into a single recording studio, The Greatest Night in Pop, the new documentary from director Bao Nguyen (Be Water)chronicles every obstacle and behind-the-scenes story that led to the iconic song we all know and love. Still performed at karaoke bars and school recitals all over the globe, “We Are the World” gathered together dozens of pop and rock luminaries on one unprecedented night to raise millions of dollars in humanitarian aid for African famine relief. Upon its release in 1985, it quickly became the first single to be certified multiplatinum. Produced by the legendary Quincy Jones, the song was co-written by Lionel Richie and Michael Jackson at the height of their fame, and featured solos by Bob Dylan, Diana Ross, Cyndi Lauper, Stevie Wonder, and Kenny Rogers, among many more musical superstars. Today, it’s...

Chronicling what should probably be considered the Avengers Assemble of the rock music world, Netflix’s latest musical documentary, The Greatest Night in Pop, lays out everything that went behind the scenes of the 1985 single We Are the World. It is certainly one of the most popular songs in the history of music, mainly because of its universal appeal and the people that are associated with it. You don’t get names like Michael Jackson, Bruce Springsteen, Lionel Richie, Quincy Jones, Harry Belafonte, Kenny Rogers, Bob Dylan, and Stevie Wonder working together to create one single piece of art every day. It is a once-in-a-lifetime thing, and Netflix makes sure that the audience gets to see it that way only.

Plot: In late 1984, inspired by the success of Band-Aid in the UK, legendary producer Quincy Jones decides to make a charity single including all of the biggest pop stars in the country. Due to the complicated schedules of all involved, they only have one evening to complete what will become one of the best-selling singles of all time, “We Are the World.”
Review: If you’ve seen the music video for “We Are the World,” you’ll know that pretty much every pop-rock icon of the first half of the eighties was there for its recording. In addition to co-writers Michael Jackson and Lionel Ritchie, there was Huey Lewis, Hall & Oates, Diana Ross, Kenny Loggins, Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles, Willie Nelson, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, Kenny Rogers, Paul Simon, Steve Perry and so many more. Even Dan Aykroyd showed up singing in the chorus.

“I didn’t really know much about the making of the song,” admits The Greatest Night in Pop director Bao Nguyen of 1985’s star-studded Ethiopian famine relief hit “We Are the World.” “You just make these assumptions about how things are made because it just happens. Dolly Parton was born January 10, 1946 as the fourth of 12 children in Tennessee. What her family lacked in money was more than made up in love and support, and a young Parton was inspired by her upbringing and surroundings, sparking her love of music. By the age of 13, she was learning guitar, writing music and performing; upon high school graduation, she moved to Nashville and embarked on one of the most successful careers in musical history. Well beyond her country and pop career, she was a 2022 inductee into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
She pleaded with Jolene to stay away from her man. She shared her stories of growing up simple and poor, but loved, in her Tennessee mountain home, where her mother made her a coat of many colors. She’s a feminist who demands that standards shouldn’t be different for her just because she’s a...

Blake Shelton did not write his country hit “Hillbilly Bone.” The “God Gave Me You” singer had a lot to say about the musician who wrote it. Notably, the tune performed a lot better on the country chart in the United States than it did on the all-genre chart.
The writer of Blake Shelton’s ‘Hillbilly Bone’ was behind many great tracks
During a 2010 interview with CMT, Shelton discussed putting albums together. “That’s the hardest thing about making a record — finding those songs that you instantly love that you don’t instantly get tired of,” he said. “That’s usually what happens. I was just lucky this time around with ‘Hillbilly Bone’ and ‘Almost Alright.’
“For whatever reason, [songwriter] Craig Wiseman has taken an interest in me as a singer,” Shelton added. “He’s been very active in getting songs to me as quickly as he can, which is awesome...

If you're looking for something to normalize the upcoming Christmas season, one thing that will both do the trick and be abundantly available is Dolly Parton. The legendary country musician and actress has doubled down on holiday cheer in recent years, rebranding herself as streaming TV's own personal Secret Santa.
Of course, the "rebrand" part of it is really only in the pivot to streaming platforms like Netflix — where she produced and starred in Christmas on the Square — because Dolly Parton has been a Christmas institution in America for decades. That Peak TV is giving us Christmas Dolly at levels we haven't seen since the heyday of Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers in the 1980s is just a Christmas bonus, and who doesn't love those?...

Dolly Parton is arguably the most beloved living American. How many people are alive today because Dolly told them to get the Covid vaccine back in early 2021? Of course, she’s a paragon of country music, but her reach goes far beyond Nashville, from the disco pop of her working-woman masterpiece “9 to 5” to the soft-rock bliss of her classic Kenny Rogers duet “Islands in the Stream.” And the crossover love has been reflected back; one of the most popular cover songs of all time is Whitney Houston’s...

NBC’s The Voice Season 24 welcomes newcomer Reba McEntire to the stage. While we all miss Blake Shelton, McEntire brings a sense of wisdom and experience that few other judges can bring. And she recently discussed her longstanding friendship with country queen Dolly Parton. McEntire and Parton have an unusual way of communicating, though — and it’s all Parton’s fault.
‘The Voice’ star Reba McEntire said Dolly Parton ‘does not text’ — she only faxes
The Voice Season 24 star Reba McEntire adores Dolly Parton. McEntire has admired Parton since the ’70s, and Parton stepped in to help McEntire when McEntire’s band members were killed in the ’90s. Eight members of McEntire’s band died in a plane crash. After the tragedy, Parton contacted McEntire and offered the country singer her band and organization.

Elvis Presley‘s “In the Ghetto” was originally titled “The Vicious Circle.” The country singer who wrote the song explained why he didn’t use its original name. In addition, he discussed what it was like to pen multiple hit songs for the “Can’t Help Falling in Love” singer.

One of Dolly Parton’s biggest hits is “Islands in the Stream”. The Bee Gees wrote the track, which later became a duet between Parton and Kenny Rogers. The song is celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2023, and Parton recently reflected on her experience recording it and what it means to her today.
Dolly Parton recorded ‘Islands in the Stream’ in ‘two or three hours’
“Islands in the Stream” was released in 1983. The track was written by the Bee Gees, who initially imagined it as a solo record for Diana Ross. After reworking it, they got Kenny Rogers onboard and asked if he could get Parton. In an interview with Smooth Radio, Parton said she lived near Rogers, so it was very easy for her to get to the studio to record it.
“I’m always honored when great artists like Barry, who produced the record and he and his brothers wrote it,...

Bob Dylan is an excellent songwriter whose intimate and introspective lyrics managed to capture the hearts and minds of his audience. His ability to relate to any demographic allows him to translate other people’s lyrics and discern their true meaning. He said one song he enjoys covering has a troubling psychological truth, as he believes it could belong to a “serial killer.”
Bob Dylan said ‘You Don’t Know Me’ sounds like it’s a song about a ‘serial killer’
In Bob Dylan’s book The Philosophy of Modern Song, the American folk singer discusses the works of many other artists. One song he discussed is “You Don’t Know Me”, written by Eddie Arnold and Cindy Walker. Dylan started his discussion of the song by analyzing the track’s main character and the lyrics.

Growing up in the 80s it was a special time for kids who loved cars. Series like Magnum Pi, Knight Rider, and The A-Team all had an iconic vehicle that was a centerpiece of the series and epitomized the spirit of the show. But perhaps none was as iconic and memorable as the car at the heart of this episode, The General Lee.
The orange painted muscle car was the chariot of Bo and Luke, the two modern day Robin Hoods Aka The Duke Boys. In this episode of Gone But Not Forgotten we’re going climb through the window and get behind the wheel of The General as we revisit The Dukes of Hazzard.

Although Rogers is known for his country songs, he was inspired by gospel music. In his book Luck or Something Like It, Rogers says he grew up around different types of music. However, gospel had a major impact on him. He says he was drawn to the strong voices and the melody. There was a church in his neighborhood where he could hear gospel music playing. He noticed how different the music was from the hymns played at his church.
“There was a little Black gospel church just down the street from Lanzo’s [grocery store],” wrote Rogers. “Sometimes I could hear music coming from that church, music that was far different from what I heard...

A spiritual kissing cousin of such compellingly campy ’90s Aussie-produced extravaganzas as “Strictly Ballroom” and “Muriel’s Wedding,” director Gracie Otto’s “Seriously Red” disarms and delights as a sensationally spirited concoction that neatly balances unfettered outrageousness and unabashed sentimentality. The beating heart of the entire enterprise is Krew Boylan. As screenwriter, she has created a terrific role for herself. As star, she proves absolutely fearless while illuminating every aspect of a sometimes exhilarating, sometimes exasperating, always endearing protagonist. She works a singularly impressive type of movie magic while simultaneously driving the movie over the top and anchoring the borderline-fantastical narrative in something resembling reality.
Boylan stars as Raylene Delaney, better known as Red, a socially awkward small-town New South Wales realtor with, as she herself admits, “an impulse control problem.” To put it mildly. A fanatically passionate fan of Dolly Parton, she decks herself out as her idol for a company gathering,...

Despite the best cameo efforts of Dannii Minogue, Krew Boylan’s passion project is too frantic and narcissistic to convince
This Australian movie is a colourful comedy of romance and finding yourself, and it’s clearly a personal project for its writer-star Krew Boylan. I sat down to it hoping for something like Muriel’s Wedding, the film that first introduced us to Toni Collette but unfortunately, there’s something a bit frantic and narcissistic about it: a film that doesn’t quite convince you to care enough about its characters or what they care about.
Red, played by Boylan, is a young woman who is employed in an estate agent’s office and pretty hopeless at the job because, in her goofy and adorable way, her real passion is Dolly Parton: imitating her, studying her and obsessing over her. She’s also a bit self-conscious about being redheaded and flat-chested.

Rogers owned many luxurious houses, including a mansion in one of Atlanta’s most exclusive neighborhoods. Now, years after the late music artist sold the property, it sits abandoned, an 8.5 million eyesore.

Dolly Parton was born January 10, 1946 as the fourth of 12 children in Tennessee. What her family lacked in money was more than made up in love and support, and a young Parton was inspired by her upbringing and surroundings, sparking her love of music.
