Chicago – As the TV world was bombarded by new shows last week, I heard a number of complaints about the new dramas and comedies. “Hostages” was too cliched. “The Blacklist” wasn’t believable. “Shield” wasn’t fun enough. “Lucky 7” was, well, just awful. People, those shows will look even better if you happen to stumble upon “Ironside,” premiering tomorrow night on NBC.
It’s the most cliched, least believable, least fun, and just awful new drama of the year. It is aggressively bad. Avoid at all costs.
Television Rating: 1.0/5.0
It’s particularly tragic that “Ironside” fails so miserably because modern audiences probably won’t even realize that it’s a remake of the smash hit Raymond Burr series that ran from 1967-1975. They’ll just think it’s silly. And Blair Underwood, who has been excellent through his many years in TV, even recently on HBO’s “In Treatment” deserves better than the horrendous,...

The Fall TV Season presentations for all the new network shows take place this week with the first announced today. Here's a full breakdown of which concepts have made the final list over on NBC.
The Peacock did not have a good year. Only one of its new shows, "Revolution," was a true hit. Another, "Chicago Fire," got renewed by the skin of its teeth whilst the fate of a third, "Hannibal," remains uncertain.
None of last year's new comedies survived, neither did two mid-season dramas, which leaves the network with some big holes to fill. Three dramas and three comedies will debut in the Fall ahead of three more dramas and two comedies mid-season. Two further dramas and a comedy are presently unscheduled.
Several other pilots didn't make the final cut and won't become series including the high-profile Charlize Theron-produced drama about the Hatfields and McCoys, the Bruckheimer-produced...

The new fall season is closer than you think, and NBC has released their full schedule. Apart from reality favorites The Biggest Loser and The Voice, they are mixing things up quite a bit.
Take a look at a complete preview of the shows coming your way, and mark your calendars. It looks good for NBC this year, and while I’m not sure all of these look like winners, I think you’ll find at least a couple that you’re really going to like.

James Spader returns to NBC with "The Blacklist" on this fall.
The "Office" alum and longtime "Boston Legal" star returns to the spotlight on the Peacock network and this time, instead of upholding the law (albeit via blackmail, bribery and the like), he's breaking it. In NBC's upcoming series "The Blacklist," Spader stars as Raymond “Red” Reddington, the most wanted man in the world.
Check out Spader and his devilish ways below in NBC's new four-minute trailer for "The Blacklist", as well as two new preview clips, and scroll down for more previews and official descriptions of the new series on NBC's 2013-2014 schedule: the “Ironside" remake starring Blair Underwood, the new Mike O'Malley comedy "Welcome To The Family," Sean Hayes' return to sitcoms with "Sean Saves The World," and, of course, the highly-anticipated "Michael J. Chicago – When you’re in as much of a ratings struggle as NBC, it makes sense to shake things up and that’s exactly what they’re doing in the Fall with a new show or an old show in a new time every single night of the week. “Chicago Fire,” “Revolution,” “The Biggest Loser,” “Parks and Recreation,” and “Parenthood” are moving. “Community” is being held until a midseason, 13-episode run. No decision yet made on “Celebrity Apprentice” or “Hannibal,” which isn’t that surprising as they are mid-season shows anyway although it shouldn’t give fans of either program confidence as NBC announced a midseason schedule as well and they’re not on it. Anything could still happen with either program however and they could be held as replacements for shows that fail. That may be the best shot for “Hannibal” fans now. The best new show on the...

In what would be his first series regular role, Kenneth Choi (Sons Of Anarchy, Glee, 24) has been cast in NBC’s drama pilot Ironside, a reboot of the 1967 series. Written by Mike Caleo and directed by Peter Horton, it centers on Robert T. Ironside (Blair Underwood), a tough, sexy and acerbic police detective relegated to a wheelchair after a shooting who is hardly limited by his disability as he pushes and prods his hand-picked team to solve the most difficult cases. Choi will play Captain Ed Rollins, Ironside’s supervisor. Despite their push/pull relationship Ed and Ironside have a tremendous amount of respect and admiration for each other. Choi, repped by Mosaic, TalentWorks and attorney Derek Kroeger, was recently seen in Captain America 2 and next co-stars in Wolf Of Wall Street. In another recent NBC drama pilot casting, another 24 alum, Tzi Ma, will appear opposite Skyler Samuels in NBC‘s drama pilot Bloodline.

On Wednesday, Alec Baldwin took to Twitter to express his disappointment at the way the office of Harvard professor and Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren (D-ma) responded to an invitation to appear on his podcast, "Here's the Thing."
"My office called Eliz. Warren re doing my podcast. They said if I flew 2 Boston, she'd give me 15 minutes. Politicians are so...thoughtful," Baldwin tweeted.
Baldwin's podcast, which is hosted online by New York public radio station Wnyc, often features interviews with entertainers and newsmakers. A committed liberal Democrat, Baldwin has long been active in politics and has flirted with a run for office himself.
Baldwin's most recent guest was NBC executive Lorne Michaels, the executive producer of Baldwin's show "30 Rock." Other past guests include Chris Rock, director Stephen Daldry and political strategist Ed Rollins.

This shift in the conservative populist tide provoked a series of memorable (and frankly enviable) headlines like "The Incredible Shrinking Sarah Palin" from Politico and other outlets.
But the real story is the continued erosion of support for Sarah Palin. By the end of her...

Not even a charming week in Disney World could temper New Jersey Governor Chris Christie's curmudgeonly disposition to the press, as he greeted them upon his return unapologetic about missing this week's snowpocalypse and generally disgruntled that his judgment was questioned. The grumpiness was reciprocated on CNN by Gop strategist Ed Rollins, who chastised the governor for being "whiny" about the criticism after not "being there."...

It's been a rough year for Michael Steele. In the past few months alone, the Rnc chairman has taken on quite a bit of heat over everything from sojourns to bondage clubs to blaming President Obama for a war that started just about seven years before he entered office. Still though, little of this criticism has been as harsh and, more importantly, dismissive as the tongue lashing he received from chairman of the Republican National Committee, Ed Rollins on Face the Nation this weekend. Something tells me that Steele would rather have a dozen clips of Jon Stewart's wacky puppet than one more of these.

The Secret Service hasn't pressed any party-crashing charges, but Ed Rollins, a former strategist for President Ronald Reagan, is calling for the prosecution of uninvited White House guests Tareq and Michaele Salahi, who crashed President Barack Obama's first state dinner, last week. "This despicable, desperate, duplicitous couple disgraced the Secret Service and embarrassed the President in his home," he wrote. "Charge them, prosecute them, and if a D.C. jury finds them guilty, jail them." Senator Jon Kyl, a Republican from Arizona, agrees. "If it's a federal crime to lie to a federal agent, and these people didn't tell the truth about their invitation, then they should be in some way brought to justice here, again, as an example to others not to do it," Kyl said. But prosecution hasn't been the fate of recent sophisticated intruders in the royal sphere.

The time is right for Silicon Valley -- style progressivism to woo independents into a political force under the Libertarian Party banner. Here's how.
If the two-party system is ever going to be seriously challenged, this is the moment. The Gop, the stall-tactic party, is reeling. The Democratic administration is struggling to turn around the economy. And across the country, creative, engaged folks are increasingly feeling politically homeless. More Americans consider themselves independents (39%) than Democrats (33%) or Republicans (22%) -- and the gap is widening.
Who will fill that void? Sarah Palin is rumored to be mulling the idea of starting a third party, pulling together social and fiscal conservatives alienated from the Gop. The Blue Dog Democrats, turned off by President Barack Obama's spending, could reach across the aisle to moderate Republicans and try to attract independents. But the best third-party contender already exists. The Libertarians, like so many independents and disaffected Democrats and Republicans,...

First Deputy Mayor Patti Harris, who plans to run Michael Bloomberg's foundation when Hizzoner leaves office, says she has only one regret. "In retrospect, I might have been a little more clear when I told the mayor that I would serve with him until the end of the administration," she tells this month's Avenue maga zine. "I might have been a little more specific about when that would be." In the same issue, Re publican political strategist Ed Rollins writes about the presi dential campaign, concluding with a challenge to Democratic fellow New Yorkers.

Political pro Ed Rollins, who prepped Ronald Reagan, Jack Kemp and Mike Huckabee for their debates, on what's it take to prep Sarah Palin for Thursday's waltz with Biden:
"You put the candidate in a room. Even a high school auditorium, so they get a feeling for space and an audience. You add all the props. A podium, a moderator. You get somebody to play the part of the opponent. Somebody who knows Biden. Is familiar with his style,...

If the presidential debate goes on as scheduled Friday at the University of Mississippi in Oxford, it will mark the anniversary of a night 48 years ago when another Navy veteran and longtime Washington hand met a relatively inexperienced young candidate with the White House in the balance.
John F. Kennedy's performance on TV that night gave voters at home the confidence they needed to narrowly elect him as president in November 1960. Barack Obama hopes that Friday's debate -- and the two that follow in the next three weeks -- will help carry him all the way to the presidency on Nov. 4. But John McCain hopes for just the opposite.
Whether the debate would happen wasn't known late Thursday. It wasn't clear whether there had been enough progress on the government's financial bailout plan for McCain to be persuaded to go to the debate, though the three other stakeholders -- the Obama campaign,...

Last year, "Young@Heart" caused ripples when it sold to Fox Searchlight to become the first distribution deal to emerge from the L.A. Film Festival, so perhaps it shouldn't have come as a surprise that the festival put documentaries front and center this year, even in a city where there's no shortage of name actors that most other festivals would deploy to lure audiences. Instead, one of the more anticipated star attractions in Los Angeles was a talk with HBO documentary czar Sheila Nevins, who participated in a wide-ranging conversation with L.A. Times columnist Patrick Goldstein about her career of mixing high class projects like the recent doc "Roman Polanski: Wanted and Desired" with, well, "Heidi Fleiss: The Would-Be Madam of Crystal," which premiered at the festival hours after Nevins finished up. (The latest from "The Eyes of Tammy Faye" directors Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato,...
