The Writers Guild of America has just announced the nominations for their annual awards for Best Screenplays (by writers who are guild signatories). That’s right, before you get nervous thinking that your favorite may have been left off the list, you must remember that the WGA is the group that is not all-inclusive and leaves out several of the top contenders each year due to them not being part of the guild or not following their very specific rules. For this reason, you won’t see Inside Out, The Hateful Eight, and Ex Machina in the Original Screenplay category or Room, Brooklyn, or Anomalisa in the Adapted screenplay category.
Taking a look at what’s left over for the nominations, we find many that were expected to make a showing, including Spotlight and Bridge of Spies for Original Screenplay, though they apparently had to sink to really low depths...

The Americans, Season 3, Episode 7: “Walter Taffet”
Written by Lara Shapiro
Directed by Noah Emmerich
Airs Wednesdays at 10pm (Et) on FX
Something is rotten in the CIA, as Agents Gadd, Beeman, and Aderholt discover in “Walter Taffet,” this week’s installment of The Americans. Martha has been spying on her co-workers for a while now, as a favour to her husband “Clark,” and the episode finally sees her misdeed being acknowledged.
The moment comes across as a welcome shock after a couple of fairly uneventful hours (with the exception of Nina’s betrayal of her cellmate and a few other events). While the recent episodes have been compelling, and certainly effective in developing the characters (most notably the triangle between Elizabeth, Phillip, and Paige), they mostly haven’t trafficked in the heart-in-your-throat type of feelings, which The Americans does better than nearly any other show on television. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing,...

Noah Emmerich, who has played troubled FBI agent Stan Beeman on three seasons of FX’s spy series The Americans, directed his first episode of the show this week. It was his first time behind the camera in any professional capacity, and as it happens, Lara Shapiro’s script required him to work in a lot of different modes. There were straightforward dialogue scenes, a car accident and a street fight, several silent or near-silent moments of suspense and nonverbal communication between spouses, even a quasi-lyrical opening shot that brought the show closer to poetry than its stoic Russian temperament usually allows. We talked with Emmerich about his first time behind the camera on The Americans, and took the opportunity to ask some basic questions about what it means to direct an hour of TV on a brisk schedule and a tight budget. His motto is the same as the...

A review of tonight's "The Americans" coming up just as soon as I'm not a part of this discourse... "Is this how it's gonna work?" -Philip "Walter Taffet" opens with Philip in the laundry room listening to a radio news report about the dire situation in Afghanistan, a look on his face that makes clear he is thinking of the son he has never met, and who is too far away for him to protect (beyond whatever he can accomplish by having sex with a 15-year-old girl, that is). He walks through the rest of the house and goes to see Paige, who's physically near enough to wrap his arms around, and learns that Elizabeth has now moved her beyond his emotional grasp. Whether near or far, his children are at the mercy of forces he can't do anything about, and one of those forces is the wife he couldn't possibly feel more distant from.

Lindsay Lohan has been cast as an innocent high student navigating the cruel world of cliques, a wholesome campmate and the luckiest teen in Manhattan. There is not a casting director who would make those same decisions today. With the constant drama in her personal life, Lohan has been cornered into more promiscuous, troubled, and long-lost identical twin stripper roles. In Lara Shapiro's Labor Pains, Lohan plays a young woman burdened by the stresses of a fledgling career, strained family relationships and impending adulthood, a decent fit even though it won't revitalize Lohan's career.

Apparently the Tbd release date of Lindsay Lohan's "Labor Pains" means something. The movie was meant to hit the big screen in U.S. later this year but now it is sent straight to cable TV, a source from the production house Nu Image/Millenium Films has confirmed to Access Hollywood.
The movie directed by Lara Shapiro will air on ABC Family in July and come in DVD a month later. However, the movie is still in schedule to hit the theaters internationally although no date has been set yet.

For those folks out there who've been dying to see a) Lindsay Lohan in a new movie and/or b) Lindsay Lohan fake a pregnancy in order to keep a job, then you simply must watch the new trailer for Labor Pains.
