Years after "The Sopranos" started what we consider the Peak TV era, there came a show that changed network TV forever: "Lost." It's a show that is as controversial as it is influential, one that helped bring serialization to mainstream TV, make the showrunner as recognizable among TV obsessives as the actors on screen, and delivered one of the most controversial endings in history (though it is a perfect send-off for the show).
Much like "Star Wars," it doesn't matter where you fall on the love/hate scale of "Lost," there is one thing all fans can agree on — the score remains consistently stellar throughout.
A big part of why "Lost" is still talked about so many years later is Michael Giacchino's score. There is a reason why Giacchino has played multiple concerts celebrating the music of the show since it ended in 2010, and why hundreds of people from...

Queen Elizabeth II’s career was, well, being queen. Her life changed at 10 years old when her uncle, King Edward VIII, abdicated, cementing her status as a future queen. However, in later years, she admitted if a career outside the royal family had been an option, she knew what she would’ve selected.

Think the queen would’ve made a career of breeding dogs or racing horses, given her lifelong love of dogs and horses? Wrong. Sure, she bred both horses and dogs. But, if given the opportunity for a different career path, neither would’ve been her first choice.

There have been funny male stripper movies (The Full Monty), auteur-directed male stripper movies (Magic Mike), Black male stripper movies (three Chocolate City films). Now comes Back on the Strip, yet another attempt to wrest humor and drama from the spectacle of scantily clad men gyrating to audiences of wildly appreciative women. The independent film receiving a wide release definitely leans toward the funnier end of the spectrum, with its overqualified cast including many formidable comedic talents. But despite some amusing moments, it never really takes off, burdened by a tiresome romantic subplot that periodically stops the movie dead in its tracks.
The story revolves around Merlin (Spence Moore II), whose name stems from his lifelong desire to pursue a career as a magician. His supportive single mother Verna (Tiffany Haddish), who narrates the proceedings, encourages him in his dreams and roots for him when he makes an appearance at a local talent contest.

It would come as no surprise to learn that “Back on the Strip” started out as a “Magic Mike” parody. I’m not saying that it did. But what else could explain the bizarrely literal premise of an ensemble indie comedy in which our hero is a wannabe magician who heads to Vegas hoping to be the next David Copperfield, only to wind up shaking his wand for a Chippendales-style male dance revue instead?
What makes “Strip” so consistently funny for most of its too-long two-hour running time isn’t Merlin’s lame prestidigi-dream (that part feels like co-writers Chris Spencer and Eric Daniel have been watching too many Nickelodeon movies) but the sorry state of his fellow dancers: a has-been crew called the Chocolate Chips. That fairly original hook allowed the filmmakers to round up an A-list lineup for this C-grade endeavor. The movie features everyone from Tiffany Haddish...

One of the most beloved classic rock songs of the late 1970s is Kiss’ “I Was Made for Lovin’ You.” The tune was written on the piano. Subsequently, the track became one of many examples of rock bands making disco music during that era.
How Kiss’ ‘I Was Made for Lovin’ You’ is connected to Bon Jovi and Alice Cooper
Desmond Child is the songwriter behind hits like Bon Jovi’s “Livin’ on a Prayer” and Alice Cooper’s “Poison.” He co-wrote “I Was Made for Lovin’ You” with Vini Poncia and Kiss’ Paul Stanley. During a 2019 interview with The Tennessean, Child discussed how he co-wrote the song. “I went to a Kiss rehearsal in New York City, and they had this huge soundstage, with mountains of Marshall amps and all the guitars and everything,” he recalled.
“They were getting ready for a big tour, and there was a beautiful...

Blondie’s “Call Me” is one of the most enduring classic rock songs from the early 1980s. It sounds a touch like one of Kiss’ most famous songs. Despite this similarity, one of the tracks performed a lot better in the United States than the other.

Part of what makes Blondie’s “Call Me” so great is its melody. In the lead-up to the song’s chorus, Debbie Harry sings “Cover me with kisses, baby / Cover me with love / Roll me in designer sheets / I’ll never get enough.

Damon Lindelof says that he “failed” to provide safety and comfort as a co-creator of Lost, in response to a new book that in part chronicles numerous allegations of a “racist,” “sexist,” “hostile” and overall toxic workplace.
In an excerpt from a chapter of Maureen Ryan’s Burn It Down: Power, Complicity, and a Call for Change in Hollywood (preorder on Amazon or Walmart), cast members and writers from the iconic supernatural drama relay anecdotes that allege Lindelof and co-creator Carlton Cuse were indifferent, or worse, to complaints about storytelling that backburnered actors of color.

With all this wealth, all this bounty, all this stuff — why is there so much hardship and suffering? Roughly one in nine Americans live in poverty. Ti West has been churning out grisly indie horror films for almost two decades, starting with “The Roost” before his breakout satanic panic thriller “The House of the Devil” in 2009. But his recent collaboration with A24 on porn-set slasher “X,” campy gothic follow-up “Pearl,” and trilogy-ender “MaXXXine” has spawned an entirely singular Ti West Cinematic Universe: a cause for celebration in a Hollywood, where such franchises too often seem to cannibalize each other with spinning-out-of-control mythologies and winking and self-referential fan-baiting.

One of the best parts of "Lost" season one was its flashback structure. This was a show with a massive cast, and having each episode give us a close look at a specific character's life helped to make them all feel special and compelling. The "Lost" writers understood how to play with our expectations, so season 1 was filled with flashbacks that radically reshaped our understanding of certain characters. Most notable is "Walkabout," the fourth episode of the series, which reveals in its final moments that John Locke (Terry O'Quinn) had been paralyzed from the waist down prior to the plane crash.
Even when it wasn't blowing our minds with any big revelations, the flashback structures still helped to deepen our understanding of each character and add context to their current struggles. If "Lost" had chosen to simply stick to the on-island storylines, the show would've been worse off for it.

Wondering about just when Indigo Studios’ X-Files-esque Charon’s Staircase will launch? The devs said back in June that the game was going to arrive next month. We never got an answer last month when the game made an appearance at Gamescom, but today’s the day. The game’s publisher Soedesco has announced that Charon’s Staircase will launch on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store on October 28.
Charon’s Staircase takes place in the 1970s (hence the 70s Central European era atmosphere), involving a totalitarian regime known as The Ministry. The Ministry is looking to leave behind its days of brutal rule over the populace and join the European Union. Of course, in order to do so, they have to “clean up” some things.

We have to go back, /Film readers! Back to the Island filled with research stations, smoke monsters, birds that shout "Hurley!," eerie whispers, and mystical electromagnetic fields that heal paralysis. Although "Lost" premiered almost two decades ago, it left a lasting impact on television -- inspiring a plethora of mystery shows, including everything from ABC's "Flashforward" and Epix's "From." The ABC show fueled the audience's appetite for serialized and mystery-forward storytelling. Additionally, "Lost" launched the careers of many people involved -- not least of all "Watchmen" showrunner Damon Lindelof.
Looking back at "Lost," it's incredible to track where the show began and how its twists forever altered characters' fates. While the series occasionally meandered -- frustrating viewers with more questions than answers -- its characters were the show's beating heart. An interesting piece of trivia: "Clerks: The Animated Series" remains the only animated show for adults made by Walt Disney Television Animation, to date. It also, to the best of my recollection, is the only TV series in the history of the medium to make a joke at the expense of the Upn's short-lived, in-poor-taste 1998 sitcom "The Secret Diary of Desmond Pfeiffer." "Clerks" also exceeds "Desmond Pfeiffer" in that it slowly garnered a cult audience over the years,...

“Allswell” is one of those rare movies that feels less like a cinematic presentation and more like a personal invitation into someone’s home. There’s no pageantry, no fuss; they didn’t even clean the place up for you. You’re going to get to know everyone better, they’re not going to hide their unflattering sides, and by the end you’ll feel peaceful and welcome.
Directed by Ben Snyder, it’s the story of two sisters, Daisy and Ida, and their sister-in-law Serene (Daphne Rubin-Vega). Daisy, about to adopt a child from a young mother who advertised on Craigslist, co-owns a restaurant with no small amount of drama attached. Clinic counselor Ida reconnects with their troubled and dying brother Desmond, and Serene is losing patience with her adult daughter, Connie, who’s working as an erotic model.

Such is the case with Ben Snyder’s “Allswell,” in which three sisters (related through blood or marriage) come together when a family member is in trouble. Soon, the familiar is mired in unrealized character arcs, clunky lines, and
Sisters Daisy (Elizabeth Rodriguez) and Ida (Liza Colón-Zayas), along with their sister-in-law Serene (Daphne Rubin-Vega) all have their own troubles. After years of struggling with IVF, Daisy hopes her baby dreams will come true after taking in a pregnant girl named Nina (Mackenzie Lansing) she met on Craigslist. Ida, the fixer of the family, puts her friends first at the expense of her relationship with partner Ray (Michael Rispoli). Serene,...
