Exclusive: Just ahead of the 20th anniversary of Elephant, the Palme d’Or-winning Gus Van Sant pic that marked his breakout role, actor Alex Frost has signed with Brave Artists Management for representation. He’ll be repped by Luna Wise, who came over to Bam at the start of the year.
In Van Sant’s critically acclaimed psychological thriller released in October 2003, Frost portrayed teenage pianist and sketch artist Alex, who with his friend Eric (Eric Deulen), moves to orchestrate a school shooting. He’s otherwise perhaps best known for starring alongside Owen Wilson, Josh Peck and more in the Steven Brill-helmed coming-of-age comedy Drillbit Taylor, which Paramount released in 2008. Kristofor Brown and Seth Rogen scripted that title, which hailed from Judd Apatow’s Apatow Productions.

After five weeks of competition, only 11 castaways remain in the running to win “Australian Survivor: Blood V Water.” That number includes three pairs and five singles. Of these 11 finalists, who do You want to win “Blood V Water”? Vote in our “Australian Survivor” Top 11 poll below.
See How to watch ‘Australian Survivor: Blood V Water’
Phase two of the competition has officially kicked into high gear, with the Red (Blood) tribe and the Blue (Water) tribe merging into one group. Khanh Ong and Melissa “Mel” Chiang were the first two boots of the Purple (Lava) tribe, and they’re both now members of the jury that will decide who ultimately wins the $500,000 grand prize.
Of the remaining 11 players, only Mark is holding onto a hidden immunity idol. Amazingly, he decided to keep that information from his wife Sam when the tribes merged, claiming he would have told her at a later date.

For all you “Survivor” fans who aren’t able to watch, Gold Derby recapped this week’s episodes — Episode 4, Episode 5, Episode 6 — and we’ll be covering the show all throughout the season. This season is modeled after the 27th and 29th editions of the main franchise in that it features pairs of players connected by blood, all in the hopes of answering the age-old question: Is blood truly thicker than water? On Day 1, host Jonathan Lapaglia split those pairs up...

The sixth episode of “Australian Survivor: Blood V Water” began with 20 players still left in the game: 10 on the Blue (Water) tribe (after Alex Frost quit) and 10 on the Red (Blood) tribe. So who became the next person to have their torch snuffed by host Jonathan Lapaglia? Below, read our “Australian Survivor: Blood V Water” Episode 6 recap, which aired February 8, 2022 on Network 10 and 10play on demand.
1. The kid and the wicked witch.
It’s Day 13 at the Red camp, and 22-year-old Jesse Hansen jokes around with his tribe and reveals they have a nickname for him: “the kid.” He hopes he can use his playfulness to advance him far into the game. Meanwhile, over at the Blue camp, Sophie Cachia calls herself the “wicked witch of the outback” because her tribe(s) just can’t seem to get rid of her. Even though she’s safe, she knows she’s on the bottom.

The fifth episode of “Australian Survivor: Blood V Water” began with 21 players still left in the game: 11 on the Blue (Water) tribe (after Sophie Cachia switched sides) and 10 on the Red (Blood) tribe. Below, read our “Australian Survivor: Blood V Water” Episode 5 recap, which aired February 7, 2022 on Network 10 and 10play on demand.
1. Sophie the lioness.
Sophie wakes up for the first time as a Blue tribe member and is furious with being voted out last night. She’s most upset with Samantha “Sam” Gash, whom she calls one of her closest friends. “Everyone needs to watch themselves,” Sophie warns. “They’ve handed the lioness over to their own family and they’ve made her really angry.” Sophie’s sister, Kate “Kj” Austin, notes how this season is different because of all of the emotion that...

The season premiere of “Australian Survivor: Blood V Water” aired January 31 on Network 10 and 10play on demand (but sadly not in the United States). Among the 24 castaways were former Nrl player Michael “Croc” Crocker and his sister-in-law Christine “Chrissy” Zaremba, and Chrissy shocked the fandom during Episode 1 thanks to her true lack of knowledge of the long-running reality TV show.
“I’m learning as I go,” Chrissy admitted at the start of the season premiere. “I’ve got to cram in how to play this game.” She’s a stay-at-home mom who “keeps it all together” for her three adopted kids, but she hasn’t really seen a lot of “Survivor” — like, almost none at all. “I don’t know the game enough yet, but I think my competitiveness will get me over the line,” she hoped.

A few years have passed since myself and a handful of genre colleagues ventured to the CBS lot in Studio City for a set visit to Takashi Shimizu's 7500 - the ghost story-on-a-plane thriller. And by "few years" I mean three. Cameras rolled in 2011 with Ryan Kwanten, Amy Smart, Leslie Bibb, Nicky Whelan and Alex Frost starring. And yet, we've haven't see the film released domestically. There have been rumors over the years pointing to false release dates. Hell, one theater here in Los Angeles accidentally listed it on its website, but when you went to buy tickets it directed you to another film.

Chicago – Australian actor Alex Russell has a penchant for exploring the darker sides of the teenage psyche. He made his film debut as a loathsome bully in Ben C. Lucas’ “Wasted on the Young,” before landing a lead role in Josh Trank’s surprise hit, “Chronicle,” about three teens who suddenly acquire superpowers and are excited by the dangerous magnitude of their mysterious abilities.
The dynamic between high school buddies Matt (Russell), Andrew (Dane DeHaan) and Steve (Michael B. Jordan) feels wholly authentic, and Trank finds ingenious ways of fusing in-camera effects with the naturalistic visual style inherent in the found footage genre. Chicagoans who missed the film during its initial theatrical run this year will be able to catch it at midnight June 8th and June 9th at the Music Box Theatre.

One horror film has officially dropped out of the summer release schedule: Takashi Shimizu's 7500. CBS Films originally had the supernatural thriller slated for an August 31st release. That would put it up against The Possession - a Lionsgate release.
CBS opted, today, to move 7500 out of that spot and into a now undetermined date in 2013.
The film concerns a group of passengers who encounter what appears to be a supernatural force while on a transpacific flight. Ryan Kwanten, Amy Smart, Leslie Bibb, Nicky Whelan, Alex Frost, Jamie Chung and Scout Taylor-Compton star. You can check out the teaser trailer inside.

7500 Trailer. Takashi Shimizu‘s 7500 (2012) teaser trailer stars Leslie Bibb, Jamie Chung, Amy Smart, Nicky Whelan, and Ryan Kwanten. 7500‘s plot synopsis: “Passengers aboard a flight across the Pacific Ocean encounter a supernatural force.”
Altitude and Snakes on the Plane both looked good, like 7500, and both were bad in similar and dissimilar ways, Altitude being the worst of the two. With Takashi Shimizu of the original The Grudge films helming this, I will give it a shot. Hopefully CBS Films gave Takashi Shimizu a free hand to do his thing.
7500 also stars Scout Taylor-Compton, Christian Serratos, Johnathon Schaech, Jerry Ferrara, Alex Frost, Megan Taylor, Allison McCurdy, Leni Ito, and Barrett Perlman.

Only some 14 hours after we brought you more casting news on the third Riddick, Vin Diesel has posted our first ever look at the film on his Facebook page (via /Film), which was accompanied by the note “Grateful for the opportunity to make magic.” It’s pretty bare — as basic as you can get when it comes to an “official” set photo — but it’s another odd reminder that, hey, Vin Diesel and David Twohy are actually making another Riddick movie.
The other first look is for 7500, an airplane-set thriller from Takashi Shimizu, director of The Grudge. CBS Films' '7500' (Aka 'Flight 7500') is slowly but surely building up its passenger list and flight crew. Newly added to the manifest is 'Drillbit Taylor' actor Alex Frost. Frost will join the Takashi Shimizu ('The Grudge') helmed horror, currently filming, which is set on a transpacific airliner from La to Tokyo where the passengers encounter what seems to be a supernatural force. The sexy Jamie Chung ('Sorority Row') and Leslie Bibb ('Trick 'r Treat') star as attendants on the doomed flight and they're joined by passengers that include a married couple, played by 'True Blood' hunk Ryan Kwanten and 'Cranked' lovely Amy Smart. Christian Serratos ('The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1'), Jerry Ferrara, Scout Taylor-Compton ('Halloween') and sexy Aussie star Nicky Whelan (below) are also on board - quite literally....

Each week within this column we strive to pair the latest in theatrical releases to the worthwhile movies streaming online via Netflix Instant Watch. This week we look at alternatives to Our Idiot Brother, Colombiana and Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark!
This week there’s a dark theme lurking in theaters, where three innocents will have to confront some intense drama. Be it sneering sisters, creepy creatures or a painful past, these protagonists journeys are punctuated with poignancy and shouting!
Paul Rudd stars as the title moron, the good-natured but naïve Ned, who becomes a burden on his three sisters (Emily Mortimer, Elizabeth Banks and Zooey Deschanel) after he’s busted selling dope to a cop. Adam Scott, Rashida Jones and Steve Coogan co-star in this Sundance-adored family-comedy, directed by Jesse Peretz.

You may have heard of director Lee Toland Krieger because the 25-year-old wunderkind was mentored by Neil La Bute and wrote and directed his first feature, The Vicious Kind, in 2009. It starred Adam Scott, Brittany Snow, J.K. Simmons and Alex Frost.
Now Krieger is at work on his sophomore effort, Celeste And Jesse Forever, starring Rashida Jones (The Office) and Andy Samberg (SNL, Hot Rod) as a couple trying to stay friends in the midst of their divorce and navigating dating new people. The film will co-star Emma Roberts, Ari Graynor and Chris Messina. Now Lord Of The Rings star Elijah Wood's joined the cast, hopefully trying to shake off the dust from his turn in the godawful J.Crew commercial The Romantics.

This little baseball indie was in very limited release theatrically so it didn’t come to the Raleigh area. It dropped on Blu ray and DVD on Tuesday, September 21st: “Calvin Marshall” (Dir. Gary Lundgren, 2009) Alex Frost as the 21 year old title character has big dreams of playing Major League Baseball. Frost is a student at a fictitious college in Oregon who has tried out for the school’s Junior College team (the Bayford Bisons) for 3 straight years only to be told by the scruffy coach (Steve Zahn) that he again didn’t make the cut. Frost has a hard time...

The Vicious Kind
I prefer to mainline my indie films in sets of two or three just because I hope that even if one's gonna be painful I can wash away the taint with something somewhat decent. One night, I had planned a three-for, and I was kneecapped by Yesterday Was a Lie. An award-winning neo-noir that was so painfully excruciating to watch I literally could not stomach another movie. I went home, put a wet towel over my forehead, lamented my choice to become a film student, and refused to turn on anything electric for 50 hours. I never reviewed that film, and subsequently missed out on catching what was to be the follow up, Lee Toland Krieger's The Vicious Kind. So now, I loathe Yesterday Was a Lie even more for forcing me to fail you in not bringing it to your attention sooner. It's one of those...

It's a bit baffling how Brittany Snow was cast in The Vicious Kind, Lee Toland Krieger's at-times darkly funny drama, which, at its most basic level is about a bizarre love triangle between two brothers, Caleb (Adam Scott, who, in my mind at least, is best-known for his four-episode stint as Harley Keiner's replacement Griff on "Boy Meets World") and Peter (Alex Frost, the kid from Elephant), and Peter's girlfriend Emma (Brittany Snow). She is neither dark nor dramatic (this may be false — she was on "Guiding Light" for some time), and no amount of hideous stark black wigs or dye jobs will change that.
However, it seems entirely possible that that's what Krieger was going for: a sweet, naive girl who is trying to seem anything but. It's difficult to tell what we're supposed to make of Emma. Is it an act? Is she as sweet and innocent as she looks?...

The Vicious Kind was shot by director Lee Krieger's 72nd Street Production company. Released on DVD on February 23, The Vicious Kind has been described by the online newspaper the Los Angeles Times as "surprising and memorable" (La). One of the surprises is a breakout performance by Adam Scott as Caleb. Other surprises include family secrets, desires, and the painfulness of love. The Vicious Kind has won awards for best feature in drama and the interrelation of several conflicted family members makes the film truly one of a kind.
The synopsis is complex, but put simply the film involves cheating on someone you love. J. K. Simmons plays Donald Sinclaire a father, widow, and philanderer who understands that people do things often out of pain. The character Sinclaire says: "we do things even when we know they are wrong," in reference to cheating on his now deceased wife.

Director: Lee Toland Krieger Writer(s): Lee Toland Krieger Starring: Brittany Snow, Adam Scott, J.K. Simmons, Alex Frost The Vicious Kind finds the men of the Sinclaire family at odds. Caleb (Adam Scott) is a highly volatile personality who hates and distrusts all women (having just been dumped by his girlfriend). Peter (Alex Frost), the younger Sinclaire brother, is the complete opposite of Caleb – he is meek, gentle, kind and loving. The film starts with Caleb driving Peter to their childhood home (in rural Connecticut) from college for Thanksgiving break (because train service is shut down due to a terrorist threat); but before going home they first have to pick-up Caleb’s college girlfriend, Emma (Brittany Snow donning jet black hair), from her parents’ house (I’m still confused why Emma was at her parents’ house, rather than on campus if she went to school with Peter). Not only...

At first glance, writer/director Gary Lundgren's Calvin Marshall could be mistaken for just another "baseball movie," but this poignant and humorous film delivers much more. Baseball is the focus of the main character, yet the heart of this film, which had its world premiere at Austin Film Festival, is more about passion and human nature.
Title character Calvin (Alex Frost) lives and breathes baseball, getting up before dawn to practice -- unfortunately it's a lost cause, as he just doesn't have the skills for the local junior college baseball team. Despite his gruff exterior, the team's head coach (Steve Zahn) has a soft spot for Calvin, and can't bring himself to cut him from the team despite the constant urgings of his assistant Coach Dewey (Abraham Benrubi).

Director: Gary Lundgren Writer(s): Gary Lundgren Starring: Alex Frost, Steve Zahn, Jeremy Sumpter, Michelle Lombardo Calvin Marshall (Alex Frost) has always dreamed of playing major league baseball, but he first needs to make the local junior college team – the Bayford Bisons. Calvin loves baseball probably more than most major league players – and definitely more than the rest of the Bayford Bisons. Calvin trains constantly – also more than the rest of the Bayford Bisons. The Bayford Bisons’ coach – Coach Little (Steve Zahn) – appreciates Calvin’s love for the game and his tenacity, but Calvin’s biggest hurdle in succeeding at baseball is that he is not a good player. Enter Tori Jensen (Michelle Lombardo), the gorgeous new student who also happens to be the star volleyball player. Jenson is a major league player who is slumming it in junior college in order to be close with her ailing mother.

What is up with Collider? They keep getting all these exclusive clips for Sundance premierers. Are they pulling in favors or do they got dirt on someone? I don't know, but luckily, we get to enjoy a look at some of the more low-key material (which we love) out of Sundance even if it isn't a trailer.
Peter and Vandy stars Jason Ritter who was in the fantastic Good Dick which premierd at last years Sundance, along with Jess Wexler and is directed by first timer Jay Dipietro. Peter and Vandy is a love story told out of order. Set in Manhattan, the story shifts back and forth in time, juxtaposing Peter and Vandy's romantic beginnings with the twisted, manipulative, regular couple they become. The film explores the question most couples ask themselves... 'How the hell did we get this way?'

"Vicious Kind" review by Steve Ramos Sundance '09: Father/son Misogyny drives family drama 'Vicious Kind' Meet Caleb Sinclaire (Adam Scott), a troubled loner in small town New England with few good things to say to his younger brother Peter (Alex Frost), his father Daniel (J.K. Simmons) or Peter's girlfriend Emma (Brittany Snow). Then again, from the first moments of writer/director Lee Toland Krieger's troubled family drama "The Vicious Kind," premiering in the Spectrum program at the Sundance Film Festival, it's clear that Caleb is not the type of person you would want to meet. He's cruel and selfish, targeting Emma with a series of confrontations that can only be described as misogyny at its worst. (Caleb's father doesn't act too much better) Yet, thanks to Adam Scott's impressive performance, Caleb is also complex, somewhat sympathetic and consistently funny. You care what happens to him and while...
