When "Avatar" was first released in 2009, "Star Wars" seemed wrapped up and the Marvel Cinematic Universe hadn't become a cultural phenomenon. James Cameron's sci-fi blockbuster felt like a breath of fresh air, the arrival of a new giant franchise, one that could be "Star Wars" for a new generation. It featured a massive world unlike any audiences had seen before, filled with new environments, creatures, and plants that fuel the imagination.
The moon of Pandora felt so real and lived-in that some audiences even got depressed upon watching the movie, because they couldn't visit the real Pandora. Not only was the first "Avatar" a monumental and unprecedented success, but even after nine years of waiting alongside claims of the film having no cultural impact, the sequel was also a huge box office success, even in a completely different landscape. Only once "The Way of Water" became one of the...

Remembering the Majesty of Titanic The late ’90s gave us a film that went on to define not just a genre, but an entire generation. James Cameron’s ‘Titanic’ (1997) was a cinematic marvel that transcended the boundaries of storytelling and visual effects. With a budget that soared as high as its aspirations – $200 million, making it the most expensive film at the time – Titanic’s ambition was matched only by its monumental success. It wasn’t just the first film to surpass the $1 billion mark at the global box office; it also captured hearts, earning Cameron his first Golden...

Though he keeps hinting at the possibility of working on something outside of the ‘Avatar’ universe, it really does sound as if James Cameron will continue to make movies in that franchise until he decides it’s time to retire. With two films released and three more in various stages of development, there just doesn’t seem like there will ever be time for Cameron to venture outside of that universe.

Filmmaker James Cameron has shared that he has ideas for at least two more movies in the ‘Avatar’ franchise beyond the five films that have been released or announced. He said, “We’re fully written through movie five, and I’ve got ideas for six and seven, although I’ll probably be handing the baton on at that point,” reports ‘Entertainment Weekly’.
He told ‘People’ magazine, “I mean, mortality catches up. But I mean, we’re enjoying what we’re doing. We’re loving it. We get to work with great people.”
If Cameron has his way, the Avatar series could one day be on par with some other mega-franchises. He said, “‘Star Trek’, ‘Star Wars’, the world-building franchises that have been around since I was a kid, those were my inspirations.”
He added, “We’re still a young universe. We’re only two movies in, we’re halfway through our third right now.

Even though Avatar 5 isn’t out until 2031, James Cameron is thinking about Avatar 6 and Avatar 7 as well. It may never end.
Wherever you stand on the Avatar movies, it does feel as though cinema has lost a fair number of interesting James Cameron films down to Cameron’s two decade commitment to the franchise.
It’s not that the films aren’t popular, and it’s not that the film aren’t loved. Two movies into the series, and there’s more than four billion in box office takings in the bank already. Furthermore, James Cameron is deep into making Avatar 3, Avatar 4 and Avatar 5, the latter of which is now scheduled for release in – gulp – 2031.
Yet the Cameron brain is not stopping there. He’s been chatting to People in a new interview, and admitted that even when this current run of movies is done, he...

Famous friends in attendance included Jason and Brittany Aldean, Hardy and wife Caleigh Ryan, Lindsay Ell, and Shay Mooney of Dan + Shay.
Lauren and Cameron quietly began dating in 2020 after meeting at Luke Bryan‘s Crash My Playa festival in Mexico. They went public with their relationship at the Grand Ole Opry on Nov.

Hannah Swensen fans can rejoice because another movie in the Hannah Swensen Mystery series is in the works at Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.
Alison Sweeney, who plays Hannah, shared the good news the other day and revealed that she wrote the script for the movie.
One Bad Apple: A Hannah Swensen Mystery will reunite Alison with her former Days of our Lives and The Wedding Veil co-star Victor Webster.
“I’ve always loved working with Victor – from our years in daytime to our work together on The Wedding Veil. When writing the script and developing this movie, I knew he’d be a great addition to the Hannah Swensen family, and am thrilled that he said yes,” Alison expressed to TV Insider.
It didn’t take long for Hannah Swensen fans to notice that Alison didn’t mention anything about Cameron Mathison reprising his role as Mike Kingston, Hannah’s fiance.

James Cameron confirmed to People magazine that he already has ideas locked in for “Avatar 6” and “Avatar 7,” which would expand his record-breaking franchise well beyond the planned 2031 theatrical release of “Avatar 5.” The Oscar winner is currently in post-production on “Avatar 3” and still has around half of “Avatar 4” left to shoot. Disney has the next three “Avatar” movies on its theatrical release calendar. The future of the franchise beyond “Avatar 5” is taking shape in Cameron’s head.
“We’re fully written through movie five, and I’ve got ideas for six and seven, although I’ll probably be handing the baton on at that point,” Cameron told People magazine. “Mortality catches up. But I mean, we’re enjoying what we’re doing. We’re loving it. We get to work with great people.”
It’s clear the “Avatar” franchise will continue even if Cameron is not in the director’s chair.

With only two films in James Cameron’s Avatar series since 2009, it is challenging to imagine the existence of five installments by 2031, let alone two more movies later. That’s right, folks. I said two more movies! According to James Cameron, he has ideas for Avatar 6 and Avatar 7, but there’s a twist. Instead of dedicating the remainder of his mortality to the effects-driven, money-printing franchise, he could pass the torch to another filmmaker.
Speaking with Collider about the Avatar franchise’s future, Cameron said, “We’re fully written through movie five, and I’ve got ideas for six and seven, although I’ll probably be handing the baton on at that point,” he said. “I mean, mortality catches up. But I mean, we’re enjoying what we’re doing. We’re loving it. We get to work with great people.”

Episode 17 of Married at First Sight is fast approaching, and it will be a memorable one — not just for viewers but for the cast as well.
The pairs will leave for their couples retreat at a fancy mansion in Foxfield, Colorado, setting the stage for an unforgettable getaway.
However, by the end of the trip, one couple had a major setback, and another had a medical emergency that cast a dark shadow over the trip.
Meanwhile, the Season 17 matches have already been whittled down to three couples since Orion and Lauren bit the dust before it could even settle.
Things took a downward spiral during their honeymoon, and when they returned home, Orion packed his bags and scampered off.
Clare also called it quits with her husband, Cameron, citing a lack of chemistry as the main reason she couldn’t make the marriage work.

Jamie Foxx puts his arm around Cameron Diaz as they walk together on the set of Back in Action on Sunday (February 4) in Atlanta, Ga.
They were joined on set that day for more filming by Glenn Close, their co-star.
Back in April 2023, Jamie suffered from a medical event that caused production to halt on the Netflix film. Not much has been publicly shared about what happened to Jamie, but he did release a video in July 2023 debunking numerous rumors about what happened to him.
In addition to rumors about Jamie‘s health, there were also lots of rumors concerning Cameron as well. She addressed those rumors last year.
Netflix confirmed Back in Action will premiere on the streaming service in 2024. They did not reveal a specific release date at this time.

Look for a blast-from-the-past to return next week to Port Charles.
William Lipton is checking back into General Hospital — but only for a brief visit. He will reprise his role as Cameron Webber, who was last seen on the sudser in early 2023 when the character took off for college.
Cameron is back in Port Charles because his best friend Spencer is presumed dead. In the Jan. 31 episode of the ABC soap, Spencer (Nicholas Alexander Chavez) fell off a boat, leaving fans to believe he drowned. The fate of Esme Prince (Avery Pohl) was left up in the air, too.
Get ready for the world’s most obvious spoiler: Spencer is probably not sleeping with the fishes. In real life, Chavez is on a leave of absence to play Lyle Menendez in the Netflix limited series Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story.

Get ready to see the couples together again in the upcoming episode of Married at First Sight – although now, half of them aren’t even together.
Nonetheless, the cast will gather for their couple’s retreat in Foxfield, Colorado, and the location is stunning.
Images of the mansion, once owned by a former NFL player, were posted online, and even a few of the former Mafs cast were impressed and admittedly “jealous.”
It’s hard to envision a successful couples retreat this season, although it’s been a staple feature on the show for quite some time.
At this point, two couples have already called it quits, and it’s not looking promising for Becca and Austin or Emily and Brennan.
They might bring back Orion and Lauren, much like they did for Michael and Chloe’s wedding. However, viewers were furious when he recently reappeared on the show after...

Released in 2009, director James Cameron’s film Avatar became the first movie to officially gross more than $2 billion. Then it took him thirteen years to get a sequel into theatres, so it wasn’t clear if the follow-up was going to be able to replicate that success. But then, sure enough, Avatar: The Way of Water also grossed more than $2 billion, paving the way for not only Avatar 3 (which is scheduled to reach theatres on December 19, 2025) but also Avatar 4 and Avatar 5 – which will be released on December 21, 2029 and December 19, 2031, respectively. What we know about the future sequels so far is that Avatar 3 will introduce villainous Na’vi known as the Ash People, Avatar 4 will “go nuts in a good way“ (following a six year time jump), and Avatar 5 will involve a journey to Earth. If things keep going this well as the franchise continues,...

There’s quite a lot going on beneath the shiny, fun surface of this animated comedy, though some of the questions it deals with — animal mortality, the world’s fragile eco-system — might be too much for younger children to process. For older, smarter kids, it could be a gateway film, a way to turn young cinephiles onto Powell and Pressburger’s 1946 masterpiece A Matter of Life and Death, with which it shares a little DNA. It also, like the brace of Chicken Run movies, raises the subject of nature conservation in a way they will respond to, thanks to Bill Nighy’s deliciously machiavellian uber-villain and his killer horde of robot bees.

This comes after a tense interaction between her and host Keisha Knight Pullian.
However, this time, it’s viewers at their wit’s end with Emily’s ongoing criticisms about the other couples.
Meanwhile, her marriage has been hanging on by a thread for several weeks, and she refuses to cut the cord and kick Brennan to the curb.

If you still have a vested interest in Married at First Sight, you deserve a medal, because, let’s be honest, the season has been excruciating to watch.
We’re still trudging on nonetheless — most people with zero confidence that there will be even one couple standing by the end of the season.
We know exactly how this will end because a popular Mafs fan page– who rarely ever gets it wrong — shared some spoilers about which couples stayed together on Decision Day and which ones called it quits.
We’re 14 episodes into Season 17, and a lot has happened already.
Two couples have already split, and one is hanging on by a thread.
However, the season also gave us the show’s first-ever runaway bride, and it’s quite shocking that it took this long.
Another first is a wedding that occurred midway through the season, as the jilted groom...

The idea of found footage as a filmmaking technique stretches back to at least 1961 with the release of Shirley Clarke's relatively obscure drama "The Connection." The found footage style was used to present scripted material as if it were documentary footage, employing a lot of shaky, handheld camera work and extemporaneous-sounding dialogue. The term "found footage" sprung from a common conceit of the style, which often implied that something horrible had happened to the filmmakers that prevented them from assembling and editing their footage. Once their footage was found, it was edited by a third party and presented in the theater.
There were many found footage films from 1961 until 2007, but the release and overwhelming success of Oren Peli's "Paranormal Activity" sparked a years-long wave of the format, with most of its glory-chasers employing horror as their baseline. Late 2000s found footage horror was largely effective, as it often...

When Arnold Schwarzenegger delivered the now legendary line, "I'll be back," in 1984's "The Terminator," no one could have known how true that statement would prove to be. Arnie was indeed back, and back, and back, and back, and back again, proving that the only thing as relentless as the T-800 is Hollywood's desire to pump out sequel after sequel.
Thankfully, we at least got one classic of the action genre out of it: 1991's "Terminator 2: Judgment Day." After delivering a masterpiece of low-budget sci-fi filmmaking in '84, director James Cameron proved why he's the king of sequels with the 1991 follow-up. "T2" outdid its predecessor in almost every way, blending impeccable action set pieces with an overwhelming sense of doom that made the film linger in the mind long after viewing.
After that, the films continued without Cameron, and not only was there a marked drop in quality with...

Tom Johnson, who received two Emmy Awards for his writing on The Daily Show, has died. He was 55.
Johnson died “peacefully and unexpectedly” at his Los Angeles home on Jan. 14 of a cardiac issue, his wife, actress Rozie Bacchi, told The Hollywood Reporter.
“He never got to eat the Texas toast he was making, or the 4 lbs. of crab legs he found on sale and crammed in the freezer two nights prior,” she said in a statement.
“Tom had such a big heart and cared deeply about taking care of others. His work ethic was impeccable. He was fair, kind, talented, inclusive and funny as hell.”
Born on July 25, 1968, in Fairfax, Virginia, Johnson began his career after college and founded the Network Comedy Troupe. He also toured as a comedian and performed at venues across the country and on television.

Rapper Travis Scott stars in the first trailer for his and director Harmony Korine’s indie film “Aggro Dr1ft,” which was shot entirely in infrared.
The short trailer is bathed in the starkly contrasted colors of the infrared lens, and it follows an assassin on his journey. “Breaking away from the traditional parameters of cinema, ‘Aggro Dr1ft’ explores the onslaught of digital ephemera and interrogates modern life through the vernacular of video games. Shot entirely through an infrared lens, the film follows a Miami Beach hitman as he embarks on the relentless pursuit of his next target,” reads the logline.
“As it is, ‘Aggro Dr1ft’ is visually thrilling but somewhat tedious to sit through — better as wallpaper than the main attraction,” wrote Variety chief film critic Peter Debruge in his review. “Still, as with James Cameron’s ‘Avatar,’ there’s wisdom in the generic quality of his script. Hyped as an interactive sequel to James Cameron’s 1986 classic, Aliens: Colonial Marines was a disappointment in 2013. We look back at how its plot could have changed the Alien franchise…
In 2011, it all looked so promising. As narrated by Gearbox Software studio boss Randy Pitchford, a demo of Aliens: Colonial Marines, unveiled at that year’s E3, hinted at the kind of game fans of the Alien franchise had been eagerly awaiting for years. It was a first-person shooter made by a respected studio – Gearbox had just had a hit with Borderlands – and was billed as a direct sequel to James Cameron’s 1986 film, Aliens. It even had a couple of familiar actors returning to provide their voices.
The demo gave a tantalising glimpse of what looked like a thoroughly engrossing narrative blaster. It took the player back to Lv-426, the setting of Alien and Aliens, and as one of several Colonial Marines,...

Is Marcel right that Zola is the new Will?
She came to Gaffney on Chicago Med Season 9 Episode 2 with a questionable past, got placed on probation, and kept annoying Marcel -- but in the end was two-for-two on her diagnoses.
She checks all the boxes for a Will replacement, but no one can be a carbon copy of the erstwhile rogue doctor, so let's hope there's more to her than that.
Zola has advanced medical knowledge. I don't know how far she got in her previous residency before she was fired, but it probably feels to her like a step backward to start all over again.
Sharon: Dr. Melvoin spoke very highly of the time you worked together at the Mayo Clinic.
Zola: That's very generous of him.
Sharon: Except Mayo itself was less enthusiastic. Evidently your residency was terminated for what they deemed 'vigilante medicine?'

Over the last seven years, Catalonia has built a thriving film industry which has been the envy of other regions across Europe, boasting a thriving co-production scene, a burgeoning animation industry, a 2022 Berlin Golden Bear with Clara Simon’s “Alcarrás,” and a bevy of prizes at 2023’s Berlinale, thanks to “20,000 Species of Bees.”
Catalonia even brought down the flag with Simon’s “Summer 1993,” a 2017 Berlin Best First Feature Film winner, on what could be hailed as a first film movement in Spain in decades: Fiction films grounded in a large sense upon a specific place, but talking about big social or gender issues.
Now Catalonia is attempting to achieve the same impact with its TV industry. Its early results led by “This Is Not Sweden,” will play out at Content Americas and most especially Sweden Göteborg Festival’s TV strand, TV Drama Vision.

In 2024, the horror fantasy film The Vampire Next Door intertwines the elements of high school romance, mystery, and horror and creates a unique narrative that can intrigue some of its viewers. Not all, because, I guess, horror is genre-specific to the audience, and not everyone has a taste for such fantasy horror films. Nevertheless, The Vampire Next Door’s protagonist, Cameron, finds himself entangled in a series of complex emotions while trying to deal with his unrequited love for a woman named Diane. However, Cameron’s world turns upside down when a beautiful young girl, Victoria, rents an apartment next door, and to much of his surprise, Victoria turns out to be a vampire. As Cameron delves deeper into Victoria’s supernatural existence, he uncovers shocking truths about the people in his life and their secret identities that they had been hiding forever. The revelation takes an emotional toll on...

From producers Sam Raimi (Evil Dead, Drag Me to Hell, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness) and Roy Lee (It, Doctor Sleep, Don’t Worry Darling) comes the upcoming action-thriller Boy Kills World, which is said to be a “one-of-a-kind action spectacle set in a dystopian fever dream reality.” But when the hell will you actually be able to see it?!

Moritz Mohr directed Boy Kills World, which was written by Arend Remmers (Sløborn) and Tyler Burton Smith (Kung Fury: The Movie).

“Come with me if you want to live!” But don’t bother if you don’t care for James Cameron’s movies. Michael Biehn — who played Kyle Reese in 1984’s The Terminator — revealed that singer Sting turned down playing the character because he didn’t like the director’s previous work…Piranha II: The Spawning.
Biehn — who was also featured in deleted scenes in Terminator 2: Judgment Day — remembered Sting’s fateful words to Cameron during the casting process, telling Michael Rosenbaum on his podcast, “I think originally [James Cameron] wanted Sting because he thought Sting had this unearthly quality about him. And I think he met with Sting, and I think Sting basically said, ‘Yeah, I just saw Piranha 2. I think I’ll take a pass on this thing.’ Something along those lines. I’m not sure how serious Jim was about him. I’ve never heard any other name associated with Kyle Reese.

Some movies can be so iconic that they accidentally end up damaging their own genre in the long run. For instance, we’re all aware of how cyberpunk has been living in the shadow of Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner since 1984, with it being nearly impossible to tell a story about a futuristic dystopia without bringing out the flying cars and neon signage. Fortunately, there are exceptions to this rule, and one of my personal favorites happens to be Kathryn Bigelow’s 1995 sci-fi thriller Strange Days.
A genre-bending murder mystery that takes place in the “distant” future of 1999, this special little film has aged spectacularly well despite its pre-millennial DNA, tackling pertinent issues like race relations and police corruption while also telling a surprisingly engaging love story. This is precisely why I think revisiting this retro-futuristic New Year’s extravaganza is the perfect way to start off 2024 with a bang.

Meghann Fahy‘s character is not set to return for a third season of The White Lotus. However, that doesn’t mean that we’ve seen the last of her.
If you forgot, the actress brought Daphne Sullivan to life in the show’s second season. Her storyline was woven in with Theo James (her onscreen husband Cameron Sullivan), Will Sharpe (Cameron’s old friend Ethan Spiller) and Aubrey Plaza.
During a recent interview, she revealed that The White Lotus creator Mike White has clued her in to a possible comeback of Daphne in a future episode.
The proposed plot would feature three other returning characters, and Meghann described it as “kind of psychotic.”
Who would be involved and what would go do? She gave us all of those details and revealed what she thinks happened to Daphne and Cameron after the cameras stopped rolling on their marriage.

It seems that every decade of the 21st century comes with its own animated film phenomenon about the importance of bee preservation. The 2000s had sincere viewings of “Bee Movie.” The 2010s had ironic viewings of “Bee Movie.” And perhaps when we look back on the 2020s, “10 Lives” will fill a similar role — though it’s considerably less likely to be uploaded on PornHub like its Jerry Seinfeld-led predecessor.
Though the marketing for Chris Jenkins’ new independently financed animated film is dominated by feline imagery, bees and their essential role in our ecosystem provide the true animal heart of the movie. But if those aren’t your thing, there’s enough anthropomorphic cats, horses, fish, rats, cockroaches, and countless other animals on hand to keep viewers of all ages entertained.
There are few better gigs in this world than being a spoiled pet onto which an owner projects their neglected parental instincts.

Fans will always debate which is the better film: Ridley Scott's 1979 sci-fi horror "Alien" or James Cameron's 1986 sci-fi actioner "Aliens." As important and influential as Scott's film was, Cameron upped the ante in terms of pure popcorn thrills, and a big part of that film's success was the character of Newt, played by Carrie Henn.
Living in Hadley's Hope settlement on Lv-426, the young girl became an orphan when her family was killed by the Xenomorphs that inhabited the moon. It’s been over twenty years since Lucy Liu first suited up as one of Charlie’s Angels alongside Cameron Diaz and Drew Barrymore, and despite the fan demand for Charlie’s Angels 3, she doesn’t think it will happen.
While speaking with Variety, Lucy Liu didn’t seem optimistic about a third installment. “I honestly don’t know how that’s going to be feasible,” she said. “There have been so many iterations, even after the fact … In some ways, it’s such a strange thing to think about it. “10 Lives,” an animated comedy set to premiere at Sundance, tells the story of a pampered cat called Beckett (voiced by British comedian Mo Gilligan) who undergoes a series of transformations – both physical and emotional – while learning a lesson about love.
The all-star cast includes “Bridgerton’s” Simone Ashley, “Love, Actually” star Bill Nighy and One Direction heartthrob Zayn Malik in his first feature film speaking role. Malik is also credited as executive music producer, writing some new tracks for the film, including a duet with Ashley.
Ahead of its festival debut, Jenkins sat down with Variety to talk about going to Sundance, working with Malik and how he sidestepped making a “butthole cut” (featuring animated cat anuses as the controversial “Cats” movie reportedly did before eventually scrapping that version) of the movie.
How did you come onto this project?
I was brought in [by the producers]. Prior to my arrival, it was set in California.

James Cameron’s True Lies comes to 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray, and we finally have a confirmed UK release date for March.
We’re a couple of months away now from the release of a trio of James Cameron films on the 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray format. We already know that Aliens is 100% confirmed for UK release, and that’s been given a release date of April 1st 2024.
Meanwhile, the eagerly-awaited remaster of The Abyss will be skipping the UK altogether, for reasons that are covered in a bit more detail here.
Finally, there’s True Lies, Cameron’s 1995 hit starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jamie Lee Curtis. This is – like The Abyss – a movie that’s never had a proper Blu-ray release over here or in the US, and it’s also coming to 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray too.

In James Cameron’s Titanic, as the ocean liner plunged deeper into the Atlantic’s icy waters, First Officer William Murdoch drew his gun. Passengers were pushing for spots in what few lifeboats the ship had to offer, and Murdoch was struggling to keep order. Panicked, he fired into the crowd. An Irish worker, Tommy Ryan, collapsed to the floor, cradled by a friend as he bled to death on the sinking deck. Realising the horror of what he’d done, Murdoch gave one last nautical salute to a nearby colleague before turning the gun on himself.

‘Succession’ wins for Outstanding Drama Series at the 75Th Emmy Awards (Photo © 2024 Fox Media LLC)
In a normal year, the 2023 Emmy Awards would have actually taken place in 2023. But last year was anything but normal in Hollywood, and the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes caused the award ceremony’s postponement to January 15, 2024.
Fans of Succession, The Bear, and Beef had a lot to celebrate as Emmy voters threw most of the awards in their direction. Succession and The Bear tied with six wins each, and Beef wasn’t far behind with five.
Highlights included Christina Applegate’s surprise appearance on stage to a standing ovation, Carol Burnett presenting to Quinta Brunson (the first Black actress to win as Lead Actress in a Comedy since 1981), and Niecy Nash-Betts’ powerful acceptance speech for Dahmer. There were also cast reunions and Sir Elton John finally received the E portion of Egot for his Farewell From Dodger Stadium special.
