Peacock baking competition series Baking It is back for season two right in time for the holidays — and this time with a familiar face stepping in as co-host.
After Maya Rudolph and Andy Samberg led the first season, Amy Poehler has replaced Samberg for the second go-around, teaming up with close friend and fellow SNL alum Rudolph. Samberg was off shooting a movie and unavailable to return for season two, Poehler tells The Hollywood Reporter, teasing, “He luckily and gratefully let me step into his sweaters.”
Poehler has previously hosted three seasons of crafting competition show Making It (which inspired Baking It) with former Parks and Recreation co-star Nick Offerman, so when she heard of Samberg’s scheduling conflicts, “I was thrilled. I knew from my experience on Making It how fun it is to do it with your buddy, because I got to do it with Nick,...

While saltier reality shows including Bravo’s “Real Housewives” franchise and HBO Max’s “FBoy Island” are still very much a thing — and very popular — there has also been a bumper crop of “nice” reality programming infiltrating the arena.

Will Hipsters Finally Get Their ‘American Idol’?
Reality-tv historians rightly remember Antiques Roadshow as one of the genre’s formative forebears. One of the earliest updates of the storied traveling freak show for the televisual medium, the venerable institution (the original British version dates to the very punk year of 1979) paved the way for cheap, glorious crap like the early rounds of American Idol, everything about Hoarders, and everything on Hgtv. But what if, instead of finding garbage in their attics, insufferable people made the garbage with their own two hands? What if NBC filmed it? That’s the question that hipster hero Amy Poehler and her production company, Paper Kite Productions, are asking in their sell of The Handmade Project, an “unscripted series” focused on competitive arts and crafts. To make things even more affable, she will be joined by Nick Offerman, her co-star on NBC’s hit Parks and Recreation. NBC...

Since ABC first bought the stateside rights to hit Israeli singing competition Rising Star, the looming concern has been how the format of real-time viewer voting will translate to the U.S. and its four contiguous time zones. A month out from the June 22 premiere, executive producers Ken Warwick (American Idol) and Nicolle Yaron (The Voice) spoke with The Hollywood Reporter about how they're handling the quandary, and the biggest part of the solution is that the show will be airing live in a vast majority of the country. I’ve learned that country star Brad Paisley has become the first musician tapped for a judge seat on ABC‘s summer singing competition reality series Rising Star. Paisley has a long association with ABC and the gig stems from his successful stint on the network’s Country Music Awards, which Paisley has been co-hosting with Carrie Underwood for the past six years. The other two judges are expected to be locked in soon. ABC had no comment. Based on the Israeli format, Rising Star, from Keshet Dcp, a joint venture between Keshet International and dick clark prods. parent DC Media, is a live talent show that incorporates real-time voting by viewers via an App. Contestants are separated from the studio audience and the judges by a translucent floor-to-ceiling Led screen where images of voters at home appear live, and the singer can see how the vote tally is growing during the performance.

The PGA split keeps the Oscar race wide open in one of the tightest three-way battles in years, with “American Hustle” still in the game following a week of big showings at the Golden Globes, Oscar nominations and Screen Actors Guild Awards.
Tonight the Producers Guild of America (PGA) announced this year’s winning motion picture and television productions at the 25th Annual Producers Guild Awards ceremony at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles.

One of the most up-in-the-air Academy Award races in memory just got even more unpredictable. For the first time in its 25-year history, the Producers Guild Awards—generally considered the most reliable predictor of which film will take home the Best Picture Oscar—ended in a tie. Alfonso Cuarón’s Gravity and Steve McQueen’s 12 Years a Slave shared the group’s prize for Best Picture.
The other Best Picture nominees were American Hustle, Her, Blue Jasmine, Captain Phillips, Dallas Buyers Club, Her, Nebraska, Saving Mr. Banks, and The Wolf of Wall Street.

Plenty of groups give out awards for excellence in film and television at the end of every year, but no set of nominations is watched more carefully by Oscar predictors than the picks from the Producers Guild. That’s because year after year their choices end up being a fairly good indicator of which films will also be granted Best Picture nominations when the Academy makes their selections.
The Guild has announced their 2014 nominations today and there aren’t really any major surprises here. All the expected films are present, including 12 Years A Slave, American Hustle, Captain Phillips, Gravity, Her and The Wolf Of Wall Street. Animated films that nabbed nominations are The Croods, Despicable Me 2, Epic, Frozen and Monsters University. Included in the documentary nominations are A Place at the Table, Far Out Isn’t Far Enough: The Tomi Ungerer Story, Life According to Sam, We Steal Secrets: The Story of Wikileaks...

Sorry Harvey and Bob Weinstein!

The Producers Guild of America has accurately forecast the last six Best Picture Oscar winners, so it was good news for 10 films that were nominated today for the PGA’s Darryl F. Zanuck Award. While Gravity, 12 Years a Slave, and American Hustle were among the films that made the cut, Inside Llewyn Davis, The Butler, and Fruitvale Station did not. Last year, eight of the 10 movies that received nods from the PGA went on to earn Oscar nominations for Best Picture.

Oh yes it still hurts that Ben Affleck was not given a Best Director Oscar nomination, yet his fantastic film "Argo" continues its ascension to Oscar glory! The film took home the top prize at the Producers Guild of America Awards taking home the Darryl F. Zanuck Award for Outstanding Producer of Theatrical Motion Pictures.
So guess which film will win the Oscar Best Picture? Yup, it will be "Argo!" Why? Well, Hollywood really loves movies about them and "Argo" is about a movie of a fake movie in order to help free some Americans trapped in Iran during the hostage crisis.
And, the PGA award is a significant Academy Awards precursor. Only seven times in 24 years has the PGA winner failed to win a Best Picture Oscar. So "Argo" has a strong chance.
I'm also happy that "Searching for Sugar Man" won the Documentary category, and not so happy...

The Producers Guild of America has announced its nominations for best productions of the year, in what is often looked to as an indicator for how the Academy Awards may go.
The guild selected 10 films — most of them common guesses for the group that could make up the Oscar list of the best films of 2012: Argo, Lincoln, Les Misérables, among others.
The one surprise: Skyfall. No 007 film has ever cracked the Best Picture list, but if this nomination is any indication, that could change when the Oscar nods are revealed Jan. 10.
