Purveyors of their own distinctive, genre-blurring sound “Thrash Grass”, The Native Howl has released their gritty new single and official music video for “Mercy” featuring Lzzy Hale of Halestorm (via Sumerian Records). With foreboding, foot-stomping rhythm, and the band’s raw intensity paired with Lzzy’s inimitable vocals, “Mercy” is bound to rattle listeners down to the bone. When asked about today’s release, the band shared:
“‘Mercy’ was written as our original Thrash Grass anthem, and to have our vocal hero Lzzy Hale singing on it is nothing short of a dream come true!
‘Mercy’ subtly tells the story of infamous Boston gangster Whitey Bulger, and the dichotomy of dark and light between him and his disgraced politician brother William. While pulling from additional themes of organized religion and corruption, the music bed’s growth in intensity throughout attempts to paint the process of all evil and wrong-doing slowly being brought to light.

This article contains spoilers for all of The Blacklist.
All good things must end. Whether all good things must end well is another matter entirely. The series finale of The Blacklist was rated poorly on IMDb and fans united in assessing it as one of the worst endings to ever close out a series’ run, especially a run as unique and longstanding as The Blacklist’s: 10 years and 218 episodes, an achievement largely unmatched in today’s TV landscape.
That ending of The Blacklist had to be a joke.
May go down as the worst Finale of all time. Literally tied up Zero loose ends. The entire show was rendered pointless. pic.twitter.com/00MoyhY25L

“How to Become a Mob Boss” is a docuseries that revisits the lives of some of the most famous criminals in history.
Al Capone, Frank Lucas, Salvatore Riina, John Gotti, Whitey Bulger, or the renowned Pablo Escobar. Do they sound familiar, right? In this series narrated by Peter Dinklage, we’ll have the opportunity to relive the defining moments of these individuals who were all prominent leaders of criminal organizations. Without any scruples, they were able to establish crime as a lucrative business and a way of life.
The series is presented as a guidebook for climbing the corporate ladder, like a marketing manual that combines archival footage with animations and, above all, plenty of irony. The result is an engaging documentary about the lives of these criminals.

Gangsters, mobsters, thugs, and mugs. Organized crime holds the upper tier of the international cinematic commission. “Crime pays,” Edward G. Robinson, who played Rico Bandello in the seminal gangster film Little Caesar (1931), is famous for saying. “But only in the movies.” When a good mob movie is on the table, it is an offer no filmmaker can refuse. There is more intrigue, suspense, violence, mayhem, and madness to be found in the criminal element than any other genre.
“Gone are the days of the gangsters,” audiences heard for years, usually in movies about mobsters. They always rise up, even if they are splattered across the ornate fountains of their gangland mansions in the last frame, like Al Pacino’s Tony Montana in Brian DePalma’s Scarface (1983), or rolling down the steps of a church, dead from a hail of bullets. That’s how James Cagney’s Eddie Bartlett went out in The Roaring Twenties (1939). Now,...

In late 2018, when Howard Stern asked Jonah Hill about working with Martin Scorsese on "The Wolf of Wall Street," Hill was effusive in his praise of the veteran filmmaker. There's no doubt that Scorsese is one of, if not the greatest living director. According to Hill, a lot of that has to do with his ability to problem-solve. As the actor sees it, "directing is just solving issues constantly," and he claimed to have witnessed first-hand Scorsese's ability to "close his eyes and then solve an insanely complex issue" in 30 seconds.
By the time it came time to film 2006's "The Departed," Scorsese had been around long enough -- his filmography stretches all the way back to the '70s -- to know what he wanted and how to make it happen. And as some unprecedented behind-the-scenes footage shows, the director approached his Leonardo DiCaprio and Matt Damon-led crime...

Not many things build more momentum for a movie than a comeback performance does. While some actors can find this term offensive – i.e., Johnny Depp for his role as Whitey Bulger in Black Mass, some actors yearn for it in the hope of reigniting their careers. Often, actors can churn out stellar performance after stellar performance, but the overall quality of the movie is letting them down. Maybe it has a weak script, terrible pacing, strange editing choices, or no chemistry between supporting actors. But every once in a while, these actors rise from the ashes and blow us

Falco Ink and Discovery+ has launched the first trailer for the upcoming documentary from Brendan J. Byrne ‘My Name is Bulger’.
Bill Bulger, now 85, was State Senate President for almost 20 years in Massachusetts. His older brother James ‘Whitey’ Bulger was a Boston gangster who was murdered in prison on October 30th 2018, aged 89. The doc weaves its way through the stories of both brothers and their respective rises and falls. The film strips away the hysteria of daily print headlines and nightly news bulletins to unfold the story of a unique American family who crave to be judged for who they are and what they’ve done, not what their infamous relative did.
William Bulger had previously be portrayed by Benedict Cumberbatch in the 2015 movie ‘Black Mass’ which saw Johnny Depp play his infamous brother Whitey.

James “Whitey” Bulger, the notorious Boston gangster who was also the subject for Johnny Depp’s 2015 crime film “Black Mass,” was found dead in a West Virginia federal prison on Tuesday, according to a report from NBC News. He was 89.
NBC News, citing the Boston Herald, said that Bulger had just recently arrived at the high-security penitentiary.
Bulger was the leader of the dangerous Boston-based Winter Hill Gang. He was convicted in 2013 of participating in 11 murders that stretched from Massachusetts to Florida to Oklahoma.

See related Alien 5 to ignore Alien 3 and Alien: Resurrection Alien 5: will it ever happen?
What I’ve tried to find here is a mix of reasonably known and less known instances of an actor being cut out of a film after they’ve filmed sequences for it. I’ve also tried to get to the reason they were left out as well.
Whilst all this may still sound like an exercise in clickbait, being cut out of a production does have a consequence beyond ego hurting a bit. For the side effect...

Justin Bieber shed some light on what it's like to feel as if your safety is being threatened by a group of rabid fans in the new documentary, Bodyguards: Secret Lives From the Watchtower.
"The first time I needed security, I used this guy named Kenny," Bieber says in a teaser trailer for the movie. "He was actually just a boy of mine who was, like, large. We figured he could scare people off just because of the way he looked. But after a while I really needed legitimate security."

The "legitimate security" Bieber refers to comes in the form of Mikey Arana, who has been Bieber's director of security for more than three years. The trickiest part of Arana's job is discerning when to remain in the background to let his client interact with fans and when to intervene.

Johnny Depp will tackle the role of Russell Poole in “Labyrinth,” The Hollywood Reporter revealed Wednesday. The film will depict Poole, the real-life La police detective who investigated the purportedly connected murders of rappers Tupac Shakur and The Notorious B.I.G in the late ’90s. Brad Furman (“Lincoln Lawyer”) is attached to direct the project.

It was Russell Poole’s reports and theories that became the subject of the book upon which “Labyrinth” is based, Randall Sullivan’s “Labyrinth: A Detective Investigates the Murders of Tupac Shakur and Notorious B.I.G., the Implication of Death Row Records’ Suge Knight, and the Origins of the Los Angeles Police Scandal.”
Although it was long speculated that Biggie had been somehow responsible for Shakur’s death, it was Poole who believed that Death Row CEO Suge Knight was a major factor in their rivalry.

Like a detective going so deep undercover that only a few are even aware he exists, Martin Scorsese’s The Departed is joining the growing litany of movie-to-tv adaptations as a series for Amazon—though only the barest traces of its identity will remain. Detroit 1-8-7 creator Jason Richman, Warner Bros. TV, and the same production groups behind Scorsese’s Oscar-winning 2006 film (though not Scorsese himself) are developing a new take on the crime drama set in present-day Chicago, where a young cop embeds himself within a Latino gang and butts heads with the gang’s own plant inside the city’s police department, who feeds his bosses information in whatever downtime he gets between shooting black men.
The Departed itself took the Hong Kong setting of its source material, the 2002 thriller Infernal Affairs, then turned it into a loose retelling of Boston gangster Whitey Bulger where Matt ...

The Departed, Martin Scorsese’s 2006 modern mob classic starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon, Jack Nicholson and Mark Wahlberg, is coming to TV as a series. The Oscar-winning movie will get a reboot as a crime drama series from Amazon Studios as well as the original film’s producers Vertigo Entertainment, Initial Entertainment Group and Plan B Entertainment. This is the first time Amazon has bought anything from Warner Bros. TV.
The script for The Departed series was written Jason Richman, who created Detroit 1-8-7.
The original film was set in Boston where Irish Mob boss Francis "Frank" Costello, played by Nicholson, paid for Colin Sullivan (Matt Damon) to complete police training and get set up in the Massachusetts State Police. DiCaprio plays William "Billy" Costigan, who pretends to get...

Whenever you're making a film or TV show based on a real-life criminal mastermind, you have to realize that you're potentially walking into a lion's den. If the crime lord, or his kin, are still alive, you have to deal with the very real possibility that they may have something to say or do about the depiction you're creating of them. Such is now the case for the makers of the Netflix series Narcos.
While notorious drug lord Pablo Escobar is dead, his brother Roberto is still very much alive and it would appear he'd like to poke his nose around and take a sniff of what Netflix is working on for season two of Narcos.
Variety is reporting that Escobar has sent a "formal, friendly request" to the makers of the show, and what he wants is to review season two before Narcos hits Netflix on September 2nd.

Will the shocking allegations surrounding Johnny Depp and Amber Heard's acrimonious divorce affect their careers? One veteran Hollywood insider agrees, but says it won't be as simple as hoping that time will make audiences forget about the scandal. "He's going to need to do a big sit-down with...

Actor Johnny Depp has signed on to star in Universal Pictures' remake of "The Invisible Man." Alex Kurtzman and Chris Morgan are producing a new line-up of classic Universal monster films by revamping them for today's audience. The film will be based off of the 1933 film, "The Invisible Man", which was directed by James Whale who is responsible for making the original "Frankenstein" and "Bride Of Frankenstein."
The 1933 film followed scientist Jack Griffin who was always given the latitude to conduct some of his own experiments. His sudden departure, however, has Cranley's daughter Flora worried about him. Griffin has taken a room at the nearby Lion's Head Inn, hoping to reverse an experiment he conducted on himself that made him invisible. Unfortunately, the drug he used has also warped his mind, making him aggressive and dangerous. He's prepared to do whatever it takes to restore his appearance, and several will die in the process.

Tom Hanks may have missed out on an Oscar nomination this year, but here's some consolation news: He's America's favorite movie star.
That's according to The Harris Poll, which revealed the 59-year-old "Bridge of Spies" actor topped the list after surveying more than 2,200 adults across the country. He rose from his previous position, No. 5.
Also rising in the ranks: Johnny Depp, who nabbed the No. 2 spot, despite being snubbed for his performance as Whitey Bulger in "Black Mass."
The rest of the top five was rounded out by Denzel Washington (last year's No. 1), John Wayne, and Harrison Ford. Sandra Bullock and Jennifer Lawrence were the top two female movie stars at No. 6 and 7, respectively.
Hanks will get a good chance to defend his spot this year, as he's next starring as heroic pilot Captain Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger in a biopic directed by Clinton Eastwood.

Though it failed to earn him an Oscar nom as many predicted it would, Black Mass still marks an impressive return to form for Johnny Depp. Based on the non-fiction novel of the same name, the film revolves around crime boss Whitey Bulger, “the brother of a state senator and the most infamous violent criminal in the history of South Boston, who became an FBI informant to take down a Mafia family invading his turf.”
Boasting one of Depp’s best performances in years as well as a supporting cast who are all up to the task of holding the screen with their leading man, Black Mass is a thrilling piece of work from Scott Cooper and a must-watch for fans of the crime genre.
