On Tuesday morning, just before President Biden addressed the United Nations for the first time, more than 80 celebrities and entertainment figures issued an open letter to world leaders calling for them to end “the Covid-19 pandemic now.”
The letter, which mentioned the United Nations General Assembly Session specifically, was posted on the website of Care, an organization dedicated to ending poverty worldwide. It was signed by a raft of boldfaced names, including Eva Longoria, Debra Messing, Alyssa Milano, Anne Hathaway, Malin Akerman, Debbie Allen, Jordana Brewster, Connie Britton, Ciara, Peter Dinklage, Richard Gere, Dolores Huerta, Joel McHale, Iman, Edward James Olmos, Laura Linney, Julianna Margulies, Joel McHale, Idina Menzel, Ana Ortiz, Adam Shankman, Michael Sheen, Adam Shulman and Sarah Silverman. For a full list of signatories, see below.
Specifically, the letter calls Covid “a manmade pandemic of apathy.” It states that “Only 2% of people in low-income countries have received a single dose.

One of the basic rules of life is 'when you are drunk, food tastes significantly better.' Aziz Ansari understands it. Epic Meal Time understands it. Hannah Hart, who has become a significant YouTube celebrity based on that principle, understands it better than anyone. In a new series on the Tasted channel, former Top Chef competitor Spike Mendelsohn proves that he lives by that philosophy as well. The series is appropriately titled, We're Drunk, Let's Eat. In each episode, Mendelsohn explores a culinary location with a few guests along for the ride. Spike and his pals go out, get wasted, and then attempt to cook a sumptuous meal. After a first episode that saw the DC-based chef travel out to La, Mendelsohn traveled to Florida, met up with YouTuber Joe Hanson, drank himself into oblivion, and then successfully prepared a spicy pizza for guests at the local NYPD Pizza joint.

Top Chef is currently cooking in rainy Seattle, but I'd like to offer some sunnier vistas: the ten hottest contestants in Top Chef history. We'll have to save our Tom Colicchio/Rocco Dispirito lust for another post.
In the meantime, take a look at these ten hotties, glare ominously into their eyes like an intrigued Padma Lakshmi, and fight with me in the comments about who should be ranked higher/lower/not at all.
10. Chris Crary (season nine)
You're working with some kind of charm when you can place ninth and still garner the Fan Favorite award, and as you can see, Chris Crary of Top Chef: Texas was working with some fine pectoral charms. Too bad my vision of that season is tainted by weird, vaguely mean-seeming guest judge Pee Wee Herman.
9. Hung Hunyh (season three)

President Barack Obama has shared some of his diet quirks with the world in the last few years. While his wife Michelle has been urging the world to maintain a healthy diet, the President himself hasn't always followed those same rules.
Celebrate Election Day 2012 with a few of Barack Obama's favorite foods and drinks in the pages below!
-----
White House Beer
After a great deal of public outcry, the White House decided to release the recipe for their very own honey brew. Before the release, the president said "it is tasty" and confirmed it would be released soon.
-----
Ice Cream
Last year, Buzzfeed realized just how much Barack Obama loves ice cream when they put together a slideshow of 30 photographs of the president chowing down on the sweet stuff. If Obama wins tonight's election, he might just celebrate with an ice cream cone of his favorite flavor!

Even if someone has won "Top Chef," that doesn't necessarily mean his journey with the show is over.
Richard Blais finished Season 4 of the Bravo competition as the runner-up, then came back to win Season 8, dubbed "Top Chef: All-Stars." He now operates several eateries from his Atlanta home base, and his life after "Top Chef" is being traced in an unscripted show titled ... well, "Life After Top Chef," which Bravo currently is televising on Wednesdays.
"One of the biggest things I realized was that I just had to let it play out as it played out," Blais tells Zap2it. "If you try to manipulate a situation, it doesn't work. You can't really act your way through real life, and restaurants aren't perfect, and family life isn't perfect ... but you manage and you get through it as a team, and I think that's what the show displays."

In the weeks between the end of "Top Chef Masters" and the beginning of "Top Chef: Seattle," Bravo is keeping the franchise alive with a new competition-free series "Life After Top Chef."
Instead of pitting chefs against each other in quickfire challenges, the show follows four former cheftestants -- "Top Chef: All Stars" winner Richard Blais in Atlanta, Season 6's Jen Carroll in Philadelphia, Season 4's Spike Mendelsohn in D.C. and Season 5's Fabio Viviani in Los Angeles -- in their professional and personal lives.
The series premiere was a mostly genial affair, there's no "Jersey Shore" antics or "Real World" bickering here, that relied heavily on the likable personalities of its familiar faces. But is that enough to support a weekly series? Even in a limited five episode run.
What did you think of the premiere of "Life After Top Chef" and will you be back next week?...

And the first new shows to get a full-season are on NBC. The network gave a "back nine" order to Revolution, Go On and The New Normal. All three shows have done pretty well so far and Revolution's second and third week suggests it has a chance at avoiding the fate of shows like The Event and Terra Nova, which started strong but kept losing viewers. Now the TV nerds are waiting to see if CBS or Fox makes the first cancellation of the season. (I predicted The Mob Doctor would be the first to fall, but I didn't expect the viewers who made 2 Broke Girls a hit would reject the equally-unfunny Partners.)
Patton Oswalt will join the fourth season of Justified in a recurring role. He'll play a classmate of Raylan who has that one story of football glory that he tells again and again.

Ever want to set sail with some of the best chef-testants from Bravo's "Top Chef"? We can't say the idea has ever occurred to us, but it sounds like fun.
"Top Chef: The Cruise" is scheduled for April 11-15 and they've just added a quartet of major names to the guest list: "Top Chef All Stars" winner Richard Blais, "Top Chef Just Desserts" season one winner Yigit Pura, "Top Chef: Texas" winner Paul Qui, and "Fan Favorite" winner Fabio Viviani. They'll join "Top Chef" hosts Tom Colicchio and Gail Simmons, along with 11 more alums.
Among the highlights scheduled for the cruise: behind-the-scenes kitchen tours, the opportunity to participate in live Quickfire challenges, a Q&A session with the chef-lebrities and (what sounds like the standout to us) an evening dance party hosted by DJ and Top Chef Master Hubert Keller. Additional names include Jennifer Carroll and Spike Mendelsohn, who...

In one of the most logical TV tie-ins ever, "Top Chef" is setting sail! Bravo has announced an official "Top Chef" cruise featuring judges Tom Colicchio and Gail Simmons and former cheftestants like Spike Mendelsohn, Angelo Sosa and Jennifer Carroll, who will travel from Miami to Mexico in April 2013.

We all know the best (and worst) part of a cruise is the non-stop gourmet food, so to take such awesome chefs on board for cooking demos, Quickfire challenges, "Top Chef" menus and more "Tc"-related events, according to topchefthecruise.com, makes total sense.
You can buy tickets starting Aug. 16 ranging in price from $699 to $5,999 (that's what a penthouse suite with veranda will set you back). So far, Mendelsohn, Sosa, Carroll, Hubert Keller, Tim Love, Tiffany Derry, Chris Hanmer, Michael Isabella, Hosea Rosenberg and Casey Thopmpson have all signed on, but the cruise's website promises many more to come.

[Deadline]

Chef Spike Mendelsohn may have competed on Bravo's culinary reality show Top Chef -- twice -- but he still didn't expect to be recruited for Food Network's Next Iron Chef: Super Chefs, which premieres Sunday at 9/8c.
"I got the phone call out of nowhere. I was actually quite surprised," Mendelsohn tells TVGuide.com. "I didn't expect them to cast me as part of this crew, alongside the other ones. I was definitely honored to have the opportunity. There are a lot of chefs involved that I look up to and I follow their careers. To be standing next to them, was kind of like, 'Ok, you made it.'"

President Barack Obama and a few members of his staff members took a trip to Capitol Hill last week to visit Good Stuff Eatery, a restaurant owned by celebrity chef, Spike Mendelsohn, to try out the Prez Obama Burger.
Mendelsohn created the burger as a tribute, which features applewood smoked bacon, red onion marmalade, blue cheese and horseradish. Instead of eating the burger that was named after him, Obama opted for a cheeseburger with a side of fries.
The Good Stuff Eatery also features the Michelle Melt, a turkey burger that is topped with caramelized onions, tomatoes and lettuce with a whole wheat bun.
Obama stopped to take pictures with a few restaurant visitors and even paid for one woman's lunch because she held his place in line.

Spike Mendelsohn has a few things to say before he steps away from the spotlight.
The Top Chef All-Star, who was eliminated from the show this week, told TV Guide that Jaime "not a team player," an opinion likely shared by many viewers after she refused to serve her dish on Wednesday's tennis-themed challenge.
Read on for a few more excerpts from Mendelsohn's interview.
On his failed dish: I slow-poached shrimp in olive oil, which I've never done before, and left them out. Then, last minute, I'm poaching shrimp a lot quicker and you can't do that. I was just a little bit off that day and I ended up with tasteless shrimp.
On the judges not tasting all the dishes: I think that goes under the category of Top Chef: All-Stars trying to make things a lot more difficult. You have to have more strategy involved. I did recognize that.

Top Chef: All-Stars' man of many hats, Spike Mendelsohn, got served a trip home — thanks not only to his tasteless shrimp, but also some sly game-play by teammate Jamie, who refused to serve her dish in a tennis-inspired challenge at the U.S. Open. "It's like c'mon, you're a cook," Spike tells TVGuide.com. "I just don't understand how you can make it past the second round when you didn't cook anything. She's not a team player and doesn't serve. It's just weird." See what else the Washington, D.C.-based chef has to say about Jamie's "bad attitude," why Angelo probably should've gone home too, and if he thinks he is, in the words of Anthony Bourdain, still the "craftiest motherf-----" to appear on Top Chef.

Let's give a big hootie-hoo to Carla Hall, who nabbed her first Top Chef: All-Stars victory in Wednesday's episode - a strenuous challenge that found the chefs competing head-to-head at the Us Open. Split into two teams - orange and yellow - the chefs each devised a dish that would be appropriate to serve to tennis players and Us Open-attendees. Translation: their food needed to be elegant, light and healthful. At first, it seemed like Hall could end up in the bottom: She insisted on making an African nut stew - healthy, sure, but not necessarily to the liking of her teammates.

After several weeks of competition it was time for the remaining chefs to really make an impression. And on Wednesday night's Top Chef: All-Stars, they did that - literally. Split into teams, the contestants were tasked with replicating four famous chefs' signature styles and cooking up a dish the esteemed bunch would be proud to serve at their various New York City restaurants. First, though, for a Quickfire challenge, David Chang (of Momofuku fame) paid a visit. The contestants were split into four teams to begin a Top Chef favorite: the mise en place relay race, in which they...

A night at the museum was more like a nightmare for some contestants on Wednesday's Top Chef: All-Stars. In a demanding challenge, the 17 remaining chefs were asked in their Quickfire challenge to make a kid-friendly snack for a group of children who were spending the night at New York's American Museum of Natural History. Judging them - Joe Jonas, whose celebrity impressed some, like Antonia Lofaso, who said her young daughter would freak out if she knew her mom met the rocker. Others, like Dale Talde, weren't as star-struck. "I had no idea who Joe Jonas was," he said.

He wasn't exactly "Burnin' Up," but Joe Jonas (the pop star, not the pastry chef) left Spike Mendelsohn with a bit of a man crush. "They're rock stars. They're full-fledged teenage heartthrobs," the usually cocky cheftestant gushed about the Jonas Brothers on tonight's Top Chef: All-Stars, when Joe showed up for the quickfire challenge. Joe tasked the 17 remaining chefs with preparing "midnight snacks" for a Night at the Museum sleepover at NYC's Museum of Natural History. The guest judge then picked the snacks that would be served to the kids. So, what tickled Joe's tastebuds? "Hmmm, I've never had marshmallows with chips before," he...

Last night, during Bravo's Top Chef reunion special, the cabler finally took the wraps off of one of television's worst-kept secrets: that next season of Top Chef would be an all-stars edition that would bring back 18 former contestants to battle it out for another chance at the title. Call it sweet justice for us fans, but after a snooze-worthy seventh season of Top Chef, the cooking competition is returning Dec. 1 (10 p.m.) for an All-Stars edition in New York City with some of our favorite past contestants, including Richard Blais (season 4), Fabio Viviani (season 5), Jennifer Carroll (season 6) and — the one I’m most excited about — Carla Hall (season 5). Judging by the full roster, Bravo went for talent in the kitchen as opposed to talent for drama, so expect a nail-biter of a season. Check out the complete list of 18 cheftestants who’ll duke it out:

After seven seasons, "Top Chef" tries to revamp it up with an All-Stars edition. 18 faces from previous seasons are brought back to the kitchen to fight each other and win the title of the ultimate Top Chef. The first look of who these great talents are has been released by TV Guide.
From season 1, there are Tiffani Faison and Steven Asprinio, the former of which almost won the competition against winner Harold Dieterle. Second season's personality Marcel Vigneron will join his former peer Elia Aboumrad. From season 3, Casey Thompson and Dale Levitski would put their friendship to rest for a battle in the kitchen against Texan Tre Wilcox.
Richard Blais from season 4 is reunited with Antonia Lofaso, Spike Mendelsohn and Dale Talde while fan favorite Fabio Viviani from season 5 is taking a second chance along with Jamie Lauren and Carla Hall. Representing 6th season are Jennifer Carroll and Mike Isabella...

If rumors are to be believed, Bravo is secretly planning an "All-Stars" season of their recently Emmy-winning "Top Chef" franchise. And though the network won't comment on the matter, a dozen competitors from previous seasons have been spotted with camera crews in New York.
Eater reports that all of the production isn't for a one-off special either, like previous "All-Star" efforts. It will be a full series following the format of regular "Top Chef," only with people we already love and don't have to spend several episodes getting to know.
This would be welcome news any time but comes as a particular relief this week after the lame and completely unjustified kick-off of Tiffany Derry, one week before final four jets off to Singapore. (Derry, if you were questioning the pertinence of this tangent, is among the cheftestants spotted on the New York set.)
