Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson knows a thing or two when it comes to brawling. The superstar was a WWE wrestler before making his very lucrative transition into acting. Fighting will still always be in his blood though, which is why he became so excited when he heard about the upcoming Ufc 244 pay-per-view bout at Madison Square Garden.
Nate Diaz is set to square off against Jorge Masvidal in one of the most highly-anticipated matches this year and upon hearing the announcement, Johnson took to social media to let both fighters know that he’s going to do everything in his power to be in attendance that night.
Masvidal then tweeted to the actor, saying: “.@TheRock I’m telling @danawhite i want you to put it around my waist 305 all day.” Following that, the Hobbs & Shaw star responded as so:

Ufc champion Conor McGregor is in police custody, hours after he was filmed committing an attack on other mixed martial arts fighters in Brooklyn Thursday.
According to the New York Daily News, McGregor may be charged with assault after turning himself in to the 78th Precinct in Brooklyn Thursday night. And NBC 4 in New York reports that McGregor will face a judge on Friday morning.
Earlier in the day, McGregor and an entourage rushed into a non-public area of Brooklyn’s Barclays Center, and began throwing objects at a bus carrying several other Mma fighters who are set to duke it out Saturday at Ufc 223. The fighters had just finished a pre-fight press conference.
Part of the melee was captured on video and widely shared on social media soon after. In the clip, someone can be seen throwing a chair into a window. Another person, believed to be McGregor himself, was restrained while apparently attempting to do the same thing. Other people threw smaller objects at the bus.

Mma fighter Michael Chiesa sustained injuries to his face in the fracas, according to ESPN’s Brett Okamoto. Chiesa was scheduled to fight former lightweight champion Anthony Pettis during the pay-per-view event, but has since confirmed that his fight with Pettis has been canceled.
A decision was made by the New York State Athletic Commission to pull me from Ufc 223. I’m devastated to say the least. @Showtimepettis I hope to run this match up Asap, June 9th in your backyard. That’s all I have to say for now. Much love.
— Michael Chiesa (@MikeMav22) April 6, 2018
Also injured was fighter Ray Borg, who took a shard of glass to one of his eyes, according to sources cited by Ufc news site Mma Junkie. His scheduled fight with Brandon Moreno has also been canceled. In addition, Ufc yanked McGregor’s teammate, Arteem Lobov, from his bout with Alex Caceres.
McGregor’s motives for the rampage are unknown, but he has publicly raged about Ufc’s decision to to strip him of his belt and give it to the winner of a fight between Max Holloway and Khabib Nurmagomedov on Saturday. And early Thursday morning, McGregor tweeted “You’s’ll strip me of nothing you’s do nothing c—s.”
At issue is McGregor’s refusal to defend his lightweight championship title since winning the belt in 2016. He has demanded a higher payout to return to the octagon than Ufc has been willing to offer.

The Ufc returns this weekend with a rare Sunday night show as Ufc Fight Night 81 goes down in Boston, Ma with a bantamweight title fight between the surging T.J. Dillashaw and former champion Dominick Cruz.
Dillashaw has been on a high the past year and a half, having upset dominant champion Renan Barao, and beat the ex-champ again in a rematch, with a win over Joe Soto sandwiched in between the Barao fights. Dillashaw also had a highly publicized split from Urijah Faber’s Team Alpha Male, but the bottom line is that he’s the biggest success story to come out of The Ultimate Fighter in years, and has looked great in the octagon.
However, come Sunday, he’s facing former bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz – a man who never actually lost his title. Instead, he was stripped of the belt due to injury, something that has plagued him throughout his career.

Former WWE champion Cm Punk has spent the entirety of 2015 preparing for his Ufc debut. Yet a year of training also means a year of anticipation and wonder for fans and critics of the pro wrestler turned mixed martial artist. And as 2015 draws to a close, speculation as to just when Punk, a.k.a. Phil Brooks, will make his way to the cage abounds.

The Cm Punk promotional hype train keeps right on rolling, even with the struggles team Roufusport encountered at Ufc 185, where Anthony Pettis lost his lightweight title, and younger brother Sergio Pettis was knocked out in his return to the flyweight division. Punk was on hand for the event, and doing the media rounds leading up to it.
The most in-depth info came from a Q&A session with Fox Sports (not so coincidentally the home of the Ufc) published late yesterday. While it attempts to avoid dwelling too much on his time with the WWE, it seems it was pretty hard to avoid. Other topics, however, include his Thor comic book, his first sparring session (which took place earlier this month), the support he has received (or conversely, hasn’t received), and his daily life – right down to what he’s watching at the moment.

Cm Punk’s team, Rousfusport, had a rough night Saturday at Ufc 185, as Anthony Pettis was soundly beaten for the lightweight title by Rafael dos Anjos, but it was Punk who was once again in the news Monday, speaking to Fox Sports about his transition to Mma, and more specifically, about what he finds difficult, and the help he has received from former Ufc and current WWE champion Brock Lesnar.
In regards to Lesnar, he said perhaps the one thing the WWE really doesn’t want to hear:
I’d love to see Brock back. I think it would be good for Brock, and it would just be fun to have him around.
While that may seem like just an off-the-cuff comment, Punk confirmed he has frequently been in contact with Lesnar over the past few months, specifically asking for advice on what Lesnar found most difficult in his transition to Mma.

Anthony Pettis, the Ufc Lightweight Champion and Roufusport fighter, posted the above picture on social media. He stated, “Haven’t had a black eye forever, but when your training with these beasts s**t happens…. cmpunk…”
Perhaps that’s an indication that Punk was working his striking and caused the black eye. The unproven Ufc fighter had previously indicated he picked the Roufusport camp for its reputation in training striking. The Milwaukee based centre is ran by Duke Roufus and its two biggest stars are Pettis and One Fc Welterweight Champion Ben Askren.
What’s interesting, is that Askren was livid when the Ufc announced the signing of Punk. Askren is undefeated and was livid that Ufc had signed a nobody in Mma ahead of himself.

Drum roll, please! And the winner of the Cm Punk sweepstakes is… Roufusport!
Punk will be training at the Roususport Mma Academy in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, a close enough drive from his home state of Illinois to keep him local and able to spend less time traveling and more time in the gym. And, as an added bonus, he’ll be working with one of the best striking coaches (Duke Roufus), a Ufc champion (lightweight champ Anthony Pettis), and One Fc champion Ben Askren, one of the best wrestlers in Mma, with wrestling being something Punk will need to work hard on.
Of course, Askren was one of the most vocal critics of the Ufc signing Punk, and that should prove to be interesting once the two start actively training together. Askren was snubbed by the Ufc after finishing up his contract with Bellator Mma, where he was their undefeated welterweight champion.

The hardcore Mma fanbase is up in arms over the Ufc signing of Cm Punk. Visit the comments section of many of the major Mma sites and you’ll see some pretty passionate fans questioning the signing of a fighter with no pro experience and limited mixed martial arts training by the world’s premier Mma promotion. At a time when they’re trying to be taken seriously as a sport, Ufc have perhaps blundered with Punk.
So, as a disclaimer, yes, the signing of Punk is for spectacle, not sport. However, as much as it’s important for the sport of mixed martial arts to be taken seriously, the company – Zuffa and all its holdings – needs to make money. And with Cm Punk comes money, thanks to his legion of WWE fans.
That’s not a condemnation of Cm Punk or the Ufc either. In Punk’s...

Ufc 181 was the promotion’s biggest, and most successful, card since Ufc 175 back in the summer, which coincidentally also featured two title fights (Chris Weidman taking on Lyoto Machida, and Ronda Rousey meeting Alexis Davis). With welterweight champion Johny Hendricks vs. Robbie Lawler II as the main event, and lightweight champion Anthony Pettis vs. Gilbert Melendez as the co-main event, you already had serious star power.
Add in Travis Browne vs. Brendan Schaub, a returning Todd Duffee, and Urijah Faber on the preliminary card, and you had enough big names to generate some serious interest.
Without question, top to bottom, Ufc 181 was a success, and the Ufc can breathe easy: entering into their key end-of-the-year events (the Tuf 20 finale, Ufc on Fox 13, and Ufc 182 in early January), they’ve building momentum. wikipedia / Ufc 167 Promotional Poster
Ufc Welterweight Champion Johny Hendricks has discussed the possibility of rematching with Mma legend Georges St-Pierre. Speaking at a media luncheon this week, Hendricks stated “It could be dangerous for him to come back [and fight me].”
The first time the two men fought, at Ufc 167 in November 2013, St-Pierre won a very close decision. Many fans booed the result, as they felt that Hendriks had done enough to win over five rounds. The old saying “never leave it in the hands of the judges” comes to mind.
St-Pierre then disappeared from the sport, vacating the Welterweight title. As a result, Hendricks was able to fight for the vacant title against Robbie Lawler at Ufc 171 in March of this year. Hendricks won that fight, becoming the champion in a decision victory.
Hendricks and Lawler will rematch this weekend at Ufc 181, and then the spectre of Gsp could end up revealing itself.

December’s first event in Ufc land marks the start of an exciting string of events for the promotion. After suffering through several cards decimated due to injury, the Ufc has a number of stacked events ready to go, and the first of those, Ufc 181 (taking place Saturday, December 6th in North America – the promo shot above is for the Australian market), has managed to avoid any major losses to the injury bug with just a week to go before the event.
That’s great news for some simple reason: fight week generally sees fighters scaling back in their training. Fight camps are wrapped up. There’s still the matter of weight cuts, and fluke illness, but for the most part, we should see the majority of fighters make it to the octagon Saturday night. And yes, before you ask, we are looking for a large chunk of wood to knock on right now,...

Ufc champ Anthony Pettis is a 3rd degree black belt in taekwondo. Vladimir Putin is a 9th. So, who would win in a street fight? Don't bet on red. Pettis -- who's fighting Gilbert Melendez at Ufc 181 this weekend -- was out in NYC this week when he told us the 6 degrees of martial arts separation wouldn't matter if push ever came to shove. For the record, here's how the tale of the tape would...

We made a couple of absolutely huge discoveries Saturday night – not the least of which is that Benson Henderson is human!
The main event of Ufc Fight Night 49 – Benson Henderson vs. Rafael dos Anjos – was a fight that fans and media pundits (including WhatCulture) began calling for after Henderson’s last outing against Rustam Khabilov. Thing is, most of us assumed that this would be another solid win for Benson Henderon. Rafael dos Anjos is a great fighter without question, but no one really expected him to upset Henderson, a man who hadn’t lost to anyone not named Anthony Pettis in years. The going logic was that Henderson would beat Dos Anjos, lock horns with maybe one more contender between now and the December bout champ Pettis has with Gilbert Melendez, and then fight for the title in early 2015.
It appears that dos Anjos, however, wasn’t told about...

The second of two events in a single day, Ufc Fight Night: Henderson vs. dos Anjos comes to you live August 23rd from Tulsa, Oklahoma.
The main event of Ufc Fight Night 49, as it is numerically known, is potentially a number one contender’s match, as a win for Henderson would make it three in a row over top tier competition for him since losing his belt to Anthony Pettis last summer. Pettis, who hasn’t fought since winning the strap due to injury and filming The Ultimate Fighter 20, is fighting Gilbert Melendez this December but things are wide open after that, and while a third match between Pettis and Henderson might be a hard sell with Henderson being down 0-2 in their series, there’s little question that he would deserve it.

For the first time in a long while, the Ufc has given us a reason to look forward to a new season of The Ultimate Fighter.
Recent seasons have been anything but great, with the exception of Tuf 17 (the Uriah Hall/Kelvin Gastelum season), which took everyone by surprise, and the women’s bantamweight half of Tuf 18.
Everything else from, say, Tuf 15 to Tuf 19 was abysmal, especially Tuf Live (season 15), Tuf 16 (the Colton Smith season), and Tuf 19 (the forgettable recent season that even Dana White panned, though it did wind up producing a couple of good fights at the finale).
Well, now we can look forward to Tuf again, because The Ultimate Fighter 20 will feature a brand new division, and serve as a tournament to declare the first ever Ufc women’s strawweight champion – something that should breathe new life into the reality series, which was quickly going stale.

Despite an out-of-competition drug test failure in February that Belfort admitted to just recently via an Instagram post, and despite a past Ped failure, the Nsac has, in its wisdom, granted the two-time offender a license to fight in the heart of Mma land, Nevada. The Nsac is considered the most influential, powerful athletic commission in North America (and likely the world), so this opens the door for Belfort to fight just about anywhere.
Immediately after the Nsac ruling, Belfort was announced in a fight with Chris Weidman at Ufc 181 in December, a card that already has lightweight champ Anthony Pettis taking on Gilbert Melendez.
Should they have gone this route, however? Should the Nsac have overlooked two past failures?
Let me preface this by saying that I love watching Belfort fight. He’s fantastic in the cage. His fights are always exciting.

Troubling news came out earlier this week in the Ufc: Jose Aldo has fallen to injury and is out of his fight against Chad Mendes at Ufc 176. This isn’t the first time Aldo has been injured, but this particular ailment threatens an entire event: the Ufc simply has no one to fill in for Aldo at the moment. Dana White broke the news on Ufc Tonight Wednesday.
With Aldo, Cain Velasquez, Johnny Hendricks, and Anthony Pettis all out with injury, Mighty Mouse and T.J. Dillashaw having fought recently, Ronda Rousey and Chris Weidman fighting at Ufc 175, and Jon Jones set for a September fight, the only options seem to be moving Dillashaw’s rematch with Renan Barao (expected later in August) forward, or hoping and praying that Ronda Rousey agrees to save the day and takes no damage against Alexis Davis at Ufc 175 (Rousey has said she...

The Ufc has confirmed two pivotal fights for this coming August, which will have title implications for the lightweight and middleweight divisions.
First up, on August 2nd, at Ufc 176 in Los Angeles, former Strikeforce light heavyweight champion Gegard Mousasi, who just this May choked out Mark Munoz at Ufc Fight Night: Munoz vs. Mousasi, will face off against former Strikeforce middleweight champion Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza, who is undefeated in the Ufc, and hasn’t lost since losing his Strikeforce belt to another possible title contender, Luke Rockhold, in 2011.
The middleweight bout is slotted to be the co-main event of the evening. Both men are potential title challengers at the 185lb class.
On August 23rd meanwhile, Benson Henderson, coming off a win against Rustam Khabilov earlier this month, will headline the Ufc’s Fight Night card in Tulsa, Oklahoma, against Rafael dos Anjos, who also scored a key win on the Henderson vs.

Another event passed, and another chance to play matchmaker – here’s a look at Saturday’s winners, and where they go from here.
Ufc Fight Night 42: Henderson vs. Khabilov took place Saturday night in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The 11-fight card featured five lightweight match ups, two fights a piece at flyweight and bantamweight, a lone welterweight fight on the preliminary card, and a single light heavyweight pairing on Ufc Fight Pass.
With such a high number of lightweight fights on one card, the event will no doubt have a major impact on the 155 pound division, which is facing something of a backlog as champion Anthony Pettis rehabs from injury and takes care of a coaching stint on the Ultimate Fighter.
Now, let’s take a look at matches to make for the winners from Ufc Fight Night 42.

Benson “Smooth” Henderson continued to roll over anyone not named “Anthony Pettis” at Ufc Fight Night 42 Saturday.
In the main event of last night’s Ufc Fight Night 42: Henderson vs. Khabilov, former lightweight champ Benson “Smooth” Henderson faced off against Russian born sambo fighter Rustan Khabilov in a fight that showed the smooth one deserves to stay in the title mix at 155, while original Ultimate Fighter Diego “The Dream” Sanchez attempted to bring back his “Nightmare” persona for a home town brawl against Ross Pearson, earning a controversial split decision in the co-headling fight.
Ufc Fight Night 42 saw the main card open with a Bantamweight scrap between Bryan Caraway and Érik Pérez. Caraway controlled in the opening stanza, while Pérez came out with an energetic takedown early in the second only to see it reversed by his opponent. Caraway then managed to control from his opponent’s back, sinking...

Three of four fights went the distance on Saturday night’s preliminary portion of Ufc Fight Night 42: Henderson vs. Khabilov from Albuquerque, New Mexico, and a pair of Ufc stars picked up much needed wins.
Early in the evening, Wec/Ufc vet Scott Jorgensen picked up a crucial win in an exciting flyweight battle, and Sergio Pettis, younger brother of Lightweight champion Anthony Pettis, scored his first victory in the Octagon.
The Ufc appears to be banking on the younger Pettis’ star power potential, hoping that his career and style mimic that of his older brother, as they tabbed him to headline the preliminary card against Yaotzin Meza in a bantamweight tilt. Pettis was coming off a loss in his Ufc debut, a Fight of the Night bout which saw him control most of the action prior to getting caught in a choke.

The Ufc is at an interesting crossroads as a brand. In their bid to receive universal recognition as a legitimate sport and not the bloody spectacle of days gone by, Ufc President Dana White and the Fertitta brothers are eager to foreground the squeaky-clean fighters of the sport who make their boxing counterparts look so thuggish. The likes of Georges St. Pierre, Anthony Pettis and newly-crowned Bantamweight king T.J Dillashaw all spring to mind as being the archetypal baby-faces the Ufc is ever more keen to be known for.
This does however mean that the old-school fighters with whom the Ufc first amassed so much notoriety no longer have a place in the promotion. The Ufc and Dana White seem very eager for the legends of these more brutish fighters to be swept under the rug as the sport and its premier promotion...

Though we have learned a lot about EA Sports Ufc over the past few weeks, the gaming giant had strangely been holding off on showcasing actual gameplay footage for the title. However, with just under a month until launch, Electronic Arts has finally released the first raw footage from its upcoming Mma game.
Pitting Lightweight champion Anthony Pettis against Jose Aldo, this first extended look at EA Sports Ufc features all of the typical trappings of an actual fight. Mike Goldberg and Joe Rogan provide commentary and stats on the fighters, while the crowd pumping Bruce Buffer does an excellent job of generating fan excitement for the brawl.
It also doesn’t hurt that EA Sports Ufc looks fantastic from a graphical standpoint. Not only do both Pettis and Aldo look better than ever before, but even Buffer and referee Ives Lavigne truly look like their real-life counter-parts. It’s...

Although it may not pull in the ratings like it used to, The Ultimate Fighter still serves as a relatively important endeavor for the Ufc. While it hasn’t produced a fighter the caliber of Forrest Griffin or Rashad Evans in a long time, the reality series has introduced people like John Dodson and Kelvin Gastelum to a wider audience. Now, Electronic Arts has revealed that EA Sports Ufc will allow players to run through the Tuf Tournament to determine whether they’re championship material, or just another Kimbo Slice.
Taking the place of the stale career mode present in the Ufc Undisputed series, this game’s version of The Ultimate Fighter will allow customized characters to receive training from Ufc stars that can be used to boost stats and unlock unique attacks, such as Anthony Pettis’ “Showtime” kick. Successfully making your way through the show is a fast track to championship contender status.
