Jeff Varner has been voted off the island — and his job on the mainland. The “Survivor” contestant, who prompted outrage after outing a fellow competitor on the long-running show as transgender, has been fired from Allen Tate Realtors in Rockhill, Sc. The company explained the decision to News & Record Greensboro, saying that Varner was “in the middle of a news story that we don’t want anything to do with.”

Sometimes great little oddities will fly under the radar. And sometimes they barrel roll out of the sky and blast through the earth never to be seen again. The Flesh Eaters (1964) is a prime example of digging through the filmic wreckage and dredging up a low budget winner. Sure, it’s not Citizen Kane, but it’s probably the Citizen Kane of Killer Microbes Versus Buxom Blondes On An Island With A German Scientist movies.
The Flesh Eaters should be just more low budget fodder from an era when any flickering images were sacrificed to the Drive-In Gods (see the same years’ The Horror of Party Beach – or rather, don’t). The set up and pedigree sure don’t help the argument – five people stranded on an island battle a monster, it’s an independent production, and a first (and last) time director helms – but a convergence of actual talent...

It was the best of mentors, it was the worst of injustices for The Voice‘s final set of Season 7 Knockout Rounds.
On one hand: Can we get a “hip-hip hurrah!” to celebrate the keen insight and serious commitment displayed by megastar Taylor Swift as the Knockouts mentor for all four teams? You might want to shake, shake, shake the sound of her latest, crazy-ubiquitous hit single from your eardrums, but you’ve got to admit a future Voice cycle anchored by her and Pharrell Williams might be the only way Blake Shelton will ever get to take a season off.

Gwen Stefani was the only coach left with a steal on Tuesday night’s The Voice final battle rounds, using it to snatch up Team Adam's Beth Spangler.
Team Pharrell: Brittany Butler vs. Ricky Manning
Pharrell Williams paired Brittany Butler and Ricky Manning with a jazzy take on “On Broadway,” and, while they did put a jazz spin on the song, neither Brittany nor Ricky were particularly at ease with the song. In rehearsals, Pharrell advised both Brittany and Ricky to try to find a way to be themselves with the song. “You’re, like, trying out for the X-men. There’s no reason to hold back,” Pharrell said.
Gwen loved both Brittany and Ricky, commending them for their stage presence, but Adam Levine gave the battle to Ricky because of his improvement from the blind auditions. Pharrell was torn, but in the end he declared Ricky the winner.

Sir Ian McKellen came out of the closet in 1988, in his 40s. But he says while it's wonderful to be liberated, being in the closet helped make him a better actor. “There was no Graham Norton on the television at that time, no gay MPs, no-one talking about gay rights on the radio. So I dealt with it my trying to cut that part of myself off, to hide myself, to choke a part of me. When you are made to feel you are so wrong for being who you are, that’s what you do. I think that’s why so many great British actors are gay - we spent so long pretending to be straight, to be someone else, that eventually we became very good at it.”

Nobody was suppose to be evicted from the Big Brother house until Thursday night, but one of the houseguests was forced to book a flight home a few days early. Can you guess who it was? Surely most of you remember Russell from Survivor. He's one of the most hated villains in the history of CBS' reality show. Turns out his brother Willie looked up to him more than he thought. Willie's been a problem in the Big Brother house since day one and after the whole house turned against him, it wasn't long before his temper got the best of him. I mean, how would you feel if you were locked in a house with several other people and they all completely despised you? Grant it, Willie did it to himself. He acted like a complete douche bag from day one and honestly, I was glad to see him go.

The TV Addict: While we don’t pretend to have any viable intel on the mother of all twists that went down in the most recent episode, we can report that all signs are pointing to Nikita doing a little soul searching in the New Year. And by soul searching, we of course mean confronting the sole woman who may-or-may-not be able to shed some light on Nikita’s long-awaited “origin story!” An origin story which in typical Nikita fashion will come complete with flashbacks to an underground rehab clinic, murder, Mexico, plenty of gunplay, and some guy named Percy.

From Mark to Dawn to Christine to Rick, this season is composed of strong characters, many of whom are genuine fans. But if I had to choose a few ... Does Cochran have The Juice? If you had told me before the season began that Phillip Sheppard would end up in second place on Survivor: Redemption Island, I would have called you crazy. Crazy like Phillip Sheppard! But somehow, someway, the Stealth R Us point person ended up as runner-up. I talked with Philip all about his unlikely journey, his feelings about his castmates, and his plans for the future, which, quite frankly, are spectacular. Read on after the jump to enjoy for yourself.

Boston Rob. The Robfather. Colonel Mariano. Rob.
No matter what name you want to call Rob Mariano, he was the story of last night’s finale of Survivor: Redemption Island, fittingly titled "Seems Like a No-Brainer."
In fact, he was the only real story of the entire season. Unless you want to give Phillip some kudos for being crazy and thus at least somewhat unique.
Jeff said it best at last night’s reunion show when he called Rob’s play the most flawlessly played game in the history of Survivor. It’s certainly hard to argue.
What could or should he have done differently? The only thing I can question was getting rid of Natalie instead of Grant, but Rob’s rationale for doing so makes perfect sense.
Rob’s play inspired a member of the jury, David, to do something completely unprecedented. Conveniently being the last person to question the finalists,...

It took four seasons, nine years, and 117 days of playing the game, but Boston Rob Mariano is finally done with Survivor. Or so he says. But that’s what winning will do! Rob joined his wife Amber Brkich (who beat Rob in Survivor: All-Stars) as a Sole Survivor by dominating Survivor: Redemption Island from wire to wire. This morning, Rob spoke to EW.com about his victory, why Grant won’t return his calls, and how he’s been lying to his wife for the past nine months! He also offers some surprising advice for his nemesis, Russell Hantz.

After almost 10 years and more than 100 days in the game, arguably the biggest celebrity 'Survivor' has ever produced finally won the game. Even Jeff Probst had to admit it was as close as he had ever seen to a perfect game -- and the viewers agreed with him. Not only did Rob Mariano win the title of sole survivor, he also won the fan favourite award, making the purse $1.1 million.
It was a satisfying if unsurprising ending to a pretty decent season of 'Survivor.' Rob was too good at the game to have lost. But maybe the rest of the cast feel like cannon fodder for Rob's run. I've never seen a more miserable bunch at the reunion show. Usually, there's one or two who feel the need to make a self-righteous speech so-many-months later, but most let their grudges go...

Before we get to the finale of Survivor: Redemption Island, make sure you know where we are by catching up with last week's recap.
The finale begins on Night 35 at Redemption Island. Grant arrives, saying he didn't think he would be voted out. It's possible Rob or Phillip betrayed him, but he's A-ok with that. Andrea didn't want Grant showing up because the Duel will make her the under-underdog. Over at Murlonio, the final four Ometepes return to[...]...

Could "Boston Rob" Mariano pull off one of the most impressive victories in the history of 'Survivor'? Going into the finale, he looked poised to do just that. Of course, he still had to whittle down his Final Four, contend with whoever returned from Redemption Island and then convince the jury to not be bitter and reward his game play.
From Redemption, he faced the possibility of going up against Matt, who'd spent 29 days there, surviving every single duel up to this point. Mike was well-liked and had dominated even Matt since going there, while Andrea and Grant were members of his own alliance.

Here is Sean Furfaro's recap of the Season Finale of Survivor Redemption Island.
I came in to this season quite skeptical, but after a strong start in the first three episodes, I became optimistic about how this season would go. However, after that drag race of a start, we settled into a marathon of mediocrity with an incredibly sub-par season. I won’t repeat all of the problems I had with this season, primarily the entire Redemption Island Twist, but let’s once again be thankful for Rob and Phillip for providing us with some entertainment for the past 14 weeks.
One quick note in advance of tonight’s Season Finale, and it’s a personal apology to regular reader Choirchick22, for whom I inadvertently spoiled the result of last week’s episode. In posting the link to my recap, I gave the result, which is something that I always try not to do.

After 39 117 days, "Boston" Rob Mariano was crowned the winner of "Survivor: Redemption Island," the 22nd Season of the popular reality program. The Final 3 came down to Boston Rob, Phillip "Special Agent" Sheppard and Natalie Tenerelli and the final vote was almost unanimous for Rob to win.
Let's see how we got there. Highlights on the way to the final vote included:
There was a final four-way duel at Redemption Island. This one involved balancing a vase with your foot, teeter-totter-style. Grant was out first, followed by Matt (bummer) and Mike, so Andrea won and was allowed to reenter the game. The first Immunity Challenge is a balance beam/ordering tiles challenge. Ashley wins, much to Rob's chagrin.Rob seemed to think it was a foregone conclusion his people would vote Andrea out, but Ashley and Natalie were not wholly on board, which Phillip noticed. "Survivor: Redemption Island" has crowned its winner in Sunday's (May 15) episode. As it was predicted before, Boston Rob easily took home the million dollars prize since he showed his control over other contestants throughout the game.
The two-hour finale started with the Final Duel between the four contestants at the Redemption Island. Andrea, Mike, Grant and Matt were challenged to balance a vase on a seesaw with one of their feet at the other end of the board. The one with the last vase standing is the winner. In respective order, Grant, Matt and Mike were out, so Andrea got a chance to rejoin the castaways.
Next was the first immunity challenge where the five castaways, Rob, Phillip, Ashley, and Natalie in addition to Andrea, raced across a balance beam to get bags filled with numbered tiles and then must put the tiles in order, from 1-100. Ashley won the immunity.

Rob Mariano won 'Survivor 22: Redemption Island' tonight. Tonight's 2-hour finale episode kicked off with scenes from the entire season, including the last episode when Grant Mottos got sent to Redemption Island with Matt,Mike, and Ashley. Then they showed Grant arriving at Redemption Island to see the others. Next, they got right back to main game commentary where Rob revealed that he missed Grant. He also said Ashley's no good, and would like her to go for good. After that Matt,Andrea,Mike, and Grant got ready for their final Redemption Island duel, while the rest of the tribemembers watched. In the duel, the contestants had to place their foot at the end of a teeter totter board, which had a vase on the other end of it. They had to balance it,and not let it fall. The last person left standing with their vase intact, won the duel.

Rob 'Boston Rob' Mariano has been crowned the winner of Survivor: Redemption Island. The 35-year-old from Pensacola, Florida scooped the title of 'Sole Survivor' and the $$1m (£617,952) prize in tonight's live season finale of the CBS competition after playing the game for a record of 117 days over four seasons. He beat out second-placed and third-placed players Phillip Sheppard and Natalie Tenerelli. Ashley Underwood finished in fourth place, while Andrea Boehlke rounded out the top five. Tonight's episode begins with Grant joining Andrea, Matt and Mike at Redemption Island following his elimination. Andrea admits that she is unhappy that Grant was eliminated as it will make it harder for her to survive the next duel but insists that she is ready for whatever the game throws at her. Back at Murlonio, the four remaining players - Ashley, Natalie, (more)...

It took 39 days, an unbreakable six-person alliance on the Ometepe tribe, the endurance to withstand the horrors of a saggy pair of pink men’s underpants, and a bitter final jury that seemed more interested in giving lectures (or lobbing insults) than asking questions [Spoilers coming, so stop reading now if you haven't watched the finale], but the winner of Survivor: Redemption Island is…Boston Rob Mariano.
In all honestly, the two-hour episode was essentially a suspense-free affair. As host Jeff Probst so aptly put it, Rob dictated the game and struck fear into his alliance members in “a style that would make any mob boss proud” — and any outcome other...

Courtesy of CBS/SurvivorSome people will tell youthere’s no such thing as a reality TV star. Those people obviously don’t knowRob Mariano. Whether Boston Rob takes home the title of sole Survivor this season, he’s clearlylearned the superstar moniker — elevating him above the dregs of countlessunscripted personalities to the ranks of bona fide main characters intelevision history.Mariano should be getting itright this time around. After all he’s been cast away three times before. Inhis first turn on Survivor: Marquesas,he was the seventh contestant voted out. On Survivor:All-Stars he helped his future wife, Amber Birch take home the $1 millionprize and came in second in the process. Paranoid players knocked him out inround eight on Survivor: Heroes vs.Villains.But from the get go on Redemption Island Mariano dominated. Andin true Boston Rob fashion, he not only find a way to manipulate the players,...

I know this is going to sound a little blasphemous (perhaps even unforgivable), but I let out a loud, enthusiastic whoop and clapped my hands like Paula Abdul looking at a shiny object during the “fish-skeleton puzzle” immunity challenge on Wednesday night’s edition of Survivor: Redemption Island. And much to my shock, I found that I was rooting for Ashley, the shallow, lazy, and sometimes overtly cruel former beauty queen who spent the first 35 days of her Survivor experience braided into the fabric of Boston Rob’s coattails.
Do I want Ashley to make it to the finale and collect the $1 million prize?...

Each week, Survivor host Jeff Probst answers a few questions about the most recent episode of Redemption Island.
To me, the most telling exchange of the entire season was Natalie telling Rob, “I’m scared,” and then him responding, “Don’t be scared. All you have to do is do what I say.” How many alarms would be set off in your head if someone said that to you in this game?
I didn’t even pick up on that moment. Great observation. I think you have to step back and really appreciate the situation. Rob is older and has played this game four times.

Who's more important, your buddy or your girlfriend? We know how Boston Rob chose in the past (somewhere Lex van den Berghe is still crying), but he doesn't have quite the same relationship with his Survivor: Redemption Island fangirls as he did with All-Stars bride Amber. So what did the Robfather decide tonight? Break up the Stealth R Us men's alliance, or break the hearts of his Survivor sweethearts? Duuude! Ashley's immunity win proved to be the "worst-case scenario" for Grant Mattos himself, and he was blindsided at Tribal Council. After smugly predicting that "princess" Natalie would be walking "a red carpet straight to Redemption Island," Grant was sent to the...

Here is Sean Furfaro's recap of Survivor Redemption Island - Episode 13.
I’ve been hearing a lot of people talk about how bad this season is, either because of the dominance of Boston Rob, or the predictability of pretty much everything after the first three episodes, or Redemption Island as a whole. I’ll agree that this definitely hasn’t been the best season, but let me ask you this: without Rob or Phillip on your screen this season, how boring would it have been then?
On to tonight’s episode, the final show before Sunday’s Season Finale…
My Random Thoughts:
- Previously on..Survivor. Ometepe was forced to turn on each other after Zapatera was completely eliminated, Phillip claims to be faking his crazy ways to portray "the villain" (yeah, right!), and Andrea was blindsided at the last Tribal Council.
Meanwhile, the Night Vision recap told us that Ashley just loves blindsides,...

While many will argue that the introduction of “Redemption Island” is Survivor’s biggest twist this season, some… okay we like to think that the far bigger surprise has a little something to do with the fact that for the first time in the history of the series, ousted contestants will have to face off against… us! Yes, you’re reading that correctly, theTVaddict.com is honored to have been asked to take part in the traditional one-on-ones with each week’s eliminated contestant, the ninth of which was Steve Wright.

Having shot the show months ago, were you at all concerned with how the sensitive subject that is race might turn out after the show’s masterful editors got a hold of the footage?...

Former NFL player Steve Wright's athletic past would seem to make him a perfect candidate to weather the grueling conditions on Survivor, but on Day 31, the 51-year-old's body had had enough. Wright lost the four-way duel on Redemption Island and became the third member of this season's Jury. Now at home in Huntington Beach, Calif., the former Dallas Cowboys defensive tackle opens up to People about dealing with the elements, how his faith got him through the season, and all about "crazy" Phillip.Related: Families Visit Survivor: Redemption Island: Yawning EnsuesYou looked completely physically drained during the duel.

After a weeks long parade of ex-Zapateras being sent to Redemption Island, we finally got to see an Ometepe sent home. But was sending Andrea home right right decision? Is Phillip really a threat to win like he thinks he is? What happens if Boston Rob gets ousted?
The show is finally getting interesting again. Let's hear from our readers?
Was Andrea the right choice this week?
Kyle Kalember: If the remaining Ometepes didn't want to go up against her at the end then it was the right choice. She absolutely could win a few immunities and that makes her dangerous. At this point I don't think there is a "wrong" choice. Just about all of them could - with the right speech - win a million dollars. Phillip seems to think he can and he is the only one I'm skeptical on.
