It seems that the vampire genre is coming back in style! A once popular subgenre of horror and fantasy movies, the vampire genre became less popular after 2010 and not many filmmakers opted to make such movies anymore. But, it seems that we’re going to see a resurgence of vampire films in the near future. We have already reported on the upcoming vampire flick by Ryan Coogler, we’ve had several such movies recently, and there is another one coming up in 2025. Namely, Italian-Canadian filmmaker Panos Cosmatos is working on an original vampire thriller titled Flesh of the Gods, and it has been confirmed that the film will star Kristen Stewart and Oscar Isaac!
Panos Cosmatos is best known as the director of the action-horror Mandy (2018), which starred Elijah Wood. The filmmaker is now back after a 7-year break, as his Flesh of the Gods is scheduled to be released...

Six years have already gone by since the release of Mandy, which instantly became a cult favorite, and it looks like director Panos Cosmatos might finally be almost ready to go into production on another film. While it was announced in 2022 that he would be making a science fiction fantasy film called Nekrokosm for A24 and XYZ Films, that project remains in development. Moving ahead of it is the “hedonistic ’80s vampire thriller” Flesh of the Gods, which has Kristen Stewart (Love Lies Bleeding) and Oscar Isaac (Dune) attached to star.
Variety reports that WME Independent, CAA Media Finance, and XYZ Films will be presenting Flesh of the Gods to potential buyers at the Cannes Film Festival. Adam McKay and Betsy Koch of Hyperobject Industries are producing the film alongside Isaac, who is producing with Gena Konstantinakos through his company Mad Gene Media, which he set up with his wife Elvira Lind.

And while Tom Hanks’ latest role “A Man Called Otto” has hit the box office, several of his films have landed at various streamers if you’re hankering for more after the tear-jearking feature film.
Hitting the sweet spot for dog movie lovers is “Marley and Me,” starring Owen Wilson and Jennifer Aniston, and the animated wonder “The Book of Life” is also newly added.

This luxe prix fixe meal is a feast for the eyes thanks to the buzzy screenplay behind one of 2022’s top films.
“The Menu” made waves at the 2022 Toronto International Film Festival upon its premiere, with Ralph Fiennes starring as a celebrity chef with a sinister scheme in mind, while Nicholas Hoult and Anya Taylor-Joy are guests at his restaurant on a remote island that redefines what it means to be a server and a taker, or rather, a feeder and an eater. John Leguizamo and Judith Light also star.
Fiennes and Taylor-Joy were both nominated for Golden Globes, with screenwriters Seth Reiss and Will Tracy being internationally recognized by film critics circles.
The script for “The Menu” was plated on the 2019 Black List before “Succession” helmer Mark Mylod helmed the feature. Adam McKay, Will Ferrell, and Betsy Koch produced the film, with Searchlight Pictures distributing.

At the center of Searchlight Picture’s The Menu is a question that transcends the film’s more obvious discussions and themes about class and gender: what does it mean to be hungry?
Set in a Michelin-esque restaurant on a remote island where the staff also live and the diners pay 1200 for one of twelve exclusive spots, the Mark Mylod-directed film cooks up both a comedic and horrific, literal and metaphorical study of what sustains us.
Hunger, then, has many flavors in this tale co-written by Seth Reiss and Will Tracy. But arguably its most interesting was noted by star Judith Light, who told The Hollywood Reporter during the film’s premiere carpet that what ultimately binds all of these characters — whether they are back or front of house — is a perpetual craving for something they can’t have.

It’s been 11 years since The Menu director Mark Mylod last directed a feature film, and his return to the big screen has gone better than he ever could have expected. His epicurean horror-comedy starring Ralph Fiennes, Anya Taylor-Joy and Nicholas Hoult has not only been met with critical acclaim, but it also scored Searchlight’s biggest opening weekend — 15.2 million — at the worldwide box office since the heyday of Slumdog Millionaire (2008).
Mylod’s last film, the Anna Faris and Chris Evans-led romcom, What’s Your Number? (2011), didn’t connect with critics or audiences, so Mylod decided to change up his approach and focus on television. He went on to direct the pilots of Once Upon a Time, Shameless and The Affair, before finding a home at HBO by way of six episodes of Game of Thrones and 13 episodes of Succession, which netted him two Emmys as executive producer.

In The Menu, the exclusive experience presented by the remote, destination restaurant Hawthorn is as much about who’s in attendance as the meticulously crafted plates.
As Ralph Fiennes’ chef Julian Slowik eventually reveals, it’s because of what the curated tasting menu explores: the corrosiveness of hunger — for power, relevance, money, love and more — within all its diners brought together for a single, final night.
“We do skew them. ‘The Menu’ Cast on Being ‘Teased’ by Prop Food and Why Audiences Love Watching the Ultra-Rich Suffer
“The Menu” brings a troupe of wealthy diners to one of the finest fictional restaurants in America. There are rare oysters, elevated tacos and a bread plate sans bread — or, unaccompanied accompaniments. The comedic thriller recruited award-winning chef Dominique Crenn as its chief technical consultant, but according to the cast, they didn’t get to enjoy much of the world-class food seen on screen.
“It was kind of a tease because we didn’t get to eat very much of it, at the end of the day,” Reed Birney told Variety on the red carpet at the New York premiere of “The Menu.” “As soon as we started eating the thing, Chef would do something and cut it off. And they would take the plate away and bring a new one for the next tape.”

20th Century Studios has been low-key delivering some of the most consistent genre entertainment over the last several years. "Ready or Not," "Barbarian," "No Exit," and "Prey" all serve as excellent examples. Oddly enough, this has all coincided with Disney's purchase of Fox, even though many of the movies in question were in the works before that deal took place. And the hot streak is set to continue as "The Menu" -- which hails from the studio's Searchlight Pictures division -- makes its way to theaters this weekend.
I was lucky enough to see the film at Fantastic Fest and, in one man's humble opinion, I think it absolutely rules. The trailers have been keeping many secrets but, very basically, the film centers on a couple (Anya Taylor-Joy and Nicholas Hoult) who travel to an isolated island to eat at an exclusive restaurant where the acclaimed chef (Ralph Fiennes) has prepared a lavish menu.

Mark Mylod has one of the most interesting filmographies of any director working today. The man who helmed "Ali G Indahouse" as his debut feature has gone on to direct episodes of hit TV shows like "Entourage," "Game of Thrones," and "Succession." It's his latest film, however, that has all of us thirsting for more. Mylod has been dazzling film fans with "The Menu," a film he was interested in making as a way to "reinvent [himself] creatively." The film stars Ralph Fiennes in the ultimate performance of his career, playing a world-class chef who incorporates shocking ingredients in his internationally-renowned cuisine. Our own Chris Evangelista called "The Menu" a "delightfully deranged horror-comedy-food porn mash-up" in his review, which should be enough to entice anyone to make a reservation to Mylod's new film.

Fantastic Fest has yet again served up a fresh feast of films, with Ralph Fiennes starring in "The Menu" and winning over audiences across the board. Directed by Mark Mylod from a script by Will Tracy and Seth Reiss, "The Menu" sees Fiennes as Chef Slowik, a renowned culinary maestro who has invited a dozen disgustingly wealthy customers to a private island to enjoy an ultra-exclusive dining experience of his expertly curated tasting menu. Unfortunately for the guests, which include the likes of Nicholas Hoult, Anya Taylor-Joy, Reed Birney, Arturo Castro, Hong Chau, and more, their invitations were by design, and the Chef has some nefarious plans up his sleeve for each of them.
One of the guests is also a washed-up movie star played by John Leguizamo, who is in attendance with his personal assistant. The movie star is hoping that he can recapture his former stardom with a...

Last month, Searchlight Pictures unveiled two posters for their darkly comedic psychological thriller The Menu, which is set to reach theatres on November 18th. One of the posters focused on the character played by Anya Taylor-Joy (The Witch) and the other focused on the character played by Ralph Fiennes (No Time to Die). Now a new poster for The Menu has arrived online, and this one features both Taylor-Joy and Fiennes, as well as Nicholas Hoult (Mad Max: Fury Road) and several other cast members. You can take a look at it at the bottom of this article.

‘The Menu’ Director Mark Mylod on Shift From ‘Succession’ to a Twisted Satire on Fine Dining (Video)
Director Mark Mylod and producer Betsy Koch joined TheWrap and Shutterstock’s Interview and Portrait Studio at the Toronto International Film Festival to discuss their new film “The Menu,” a dark, bloody satire of the one percent and the restaurants that cater to them.
The film stars Ralph Fiennes as the pretentious, craft-obsessed head chef at an exclusive restaurant on a remote island. Nicholas Hoult and Anya Taylor-Joy play a foodie and his very skeptical girlfriend who pay 2,500 to attend an exclusive dinner on this island, but soon find themselves ensnared in the dark secret behind this restaurant that slowly reveals itself with each passing course.
Mylod is an Emmy winner as producer of the acclaimed HBO series “Succession” and has directed episodes of that show, along with “Game of Thrones,” “Entourage,” and “Shameless.” He told TheWrap’s Executive Editor, Awards, Steve Pond, that he signed on for “The Menu...

In “The Menu,” Ralph Fiennes plays a masterful and secretive chef with an intensity and rigor that only produces the finest meals, but as a new trailer for the film shows, he also has a taste for blood.
“The Menu” comes from director Mark Mylod and Searchlight Pictures, and it stars Anya Taylor-Joy and Nicholas Hoult as a couple that travel to Fiennes’ exclusive and remote restaurant, only to become trapped there by his staff as he works to control every aspect of the meal.
The trailer shows Fiennes and his cooks preparing meals that have photos and even sensitive information about the dinner guests printed on the food itself. One person even gets shot, which some of the guests believe is just theatrics, only to see others get killed and hunted down, though only after Fiennes gives them all a 45-second head start.

Our communal chef fantasies take a turn to the dark side with comedy-thriller “The Menu.”
Anya Taylor-Joy stars as Margot, a skeptical diner accompanying her partner Tyler (Nicholas Hoult) to an elite restaurant tucked away on a remote island. The tasting menu, curated by a famed chef played by Ralph Fiennes, has surprising delicacies in store for the guests who may or may not be trapped. A teaser for the film already hinted at the underbelly of a lavish yet mysterious meal. “The Menu” is set to premiere in theaters November 18 from Searchlight Pictures after world-premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival.
Mega-producer Adam McKay is behind the film, with “Succession” director and executive producer Mark Mylod helming the feature. Screenwriters Will Tracy (a writer on “Succession” as well as “John Oliver”) and Seth Reiss (writing supervisor on “Seth Meyers”) penned the film, and Betsy Koch also co-produces along with McKay.

The Brady organization against gun violence is calling on Hollywood writers, directors and producers to examine onscreen gun violence and depictions of gun safety, asking the creative community to sign a pledge that’s already garnered more than 200 signatures of such names as Judd Apatow, Shonda Rhimes, Damon Lindelof and Jimmy Kimmel and the writers of Jimmy Kimmel Live!
The pledge, while noting that the “responsibility lies with lax gun laws supported by those politicians more afraid of losing power than saving lives,” acknowledges that “America’s storytellers” have the power to “effect change.”
“Cultural attitudes toward smoking, drunk driving, seatbelts and marriage equality have all evolved due in large part to movies’ and TV’s influence. It’s time to take on gun safety,” the Brady pledge states, and goes on to ask writers, directors and producers to, whenever possible, to:

Searchlight Pictures has unveiled the first teaser trailer for the upcoming film “The Menu,” in which a commanding chef played by Ralph Fiennes hosts an exclusive dining event that turns the tables on its guests.
Anya Taylor-Joy and Nicholas Hoult star as a couple traveling to the coastal island where this prestige meal is being served, but soon the evening turns deadly and the guests realize they’re in for much more than a lavish dinner.
Is it a riff on “The Most Dangerous Game?” Is it cannibalism? Is it something supernatural a la M. Night Shyamalan’s “Old”? All good questions raised by the tantalizing teaser, which provides little in the way of answers.
Mark Mylod directs from a screenplay by Seth Reiss (“Late Night with Seth Meyers”) and Will Tracy (“Succession”). The film is produced by Adam McKay and Betsy Koch and will be released exclusively in theaters on Nov.

What’s on the menu for Adam McKay’s next dark comedy?
Following Oscar-nominated “Don’t Look Up,” mega-producer McKay turns his attention to the elite culinary world with “The Menu,” from “Succession” director and executive producer Mark Mylod. The film is set to be released in theaters November 18 from Searchlight Pictures, setting “The Menu” up for a potential Oscar play.

Hong Chau, Janet McTeer, Judith Light, Reed Birney, Paul Adelstein, Aimee Carrero, Arturo Castro, Mark St. Cyr, Rob Yang, and John Leguizamo also star.

Ballots are in, and the nail-biting portion of Oscar season has begun. Nominations for the 94th Academy Awards will be revealed on Feb. 8.
Another jam-packed phase one offered plenty of twists and turns, along with much speculation and reading of tea leaves. Now, that many of the guilds have weighed in, we’re predicting Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune” will lead the way with 10 nominations, while Jane Campion’s “The Power of the Dog” and Steven Spielberg’s “West Side Story” are expected to pick up an impressive nine nods each. Kenneth Branagh’s “Belfast,” the presumed frontrunner for best picture, is expected to score a healthy seven mentions (or eight if Jamie Dornan can make the cut alongside his co-star Ciarán Hinds).

A tsunami of buzz and Oscar-telling indicators drop on Thursday, with the major guilds announcing award nominations. The Directors Guild of America (DGA), Writers Guild of America (WGA), Producers Guild of America (PGA) and American Cinema Editors (Ace Eddies) all serve as critical barometers for the Academy Awards, especially in the race for best picture.
DGA has averaged four of their five nominees landing in the Oscars’ best director category, including last year with Aaron Sorkin (“The Trial of the Chicago 7”) getting bumped for Thomas Vinterberg (“Another Round”). The first-time directors’ category, with the exception of Jordan Peele for “Get Out” (2017), has gone on to get a nod at the Academy.
The PGA always provides some big blockbusters and Academy flare, which bodes well for either “No Time to Die” or “Spider-Man: No Way Home.” The WGA has a lot of ineligibilities that won’t provide a strong enough indicator for the screenplay categories.
