Jake Paul’s contentious claim last month that he built YouTube’s first content house with Team 10 brought one of the space's forebearers into the spotlight -- the now-disbanded supergroup known as Our2ndLife (O2L).
O2L -- which comprises Connor Franta, Ricky Dillon, Sam Pottorff, Jc Caylen, Trevi Moran, and Kian Lawley -- is widely considered one of YouTube’s first big creator collectives, having spawned, at the height of their fame, a live tour and accompanying documentary. And though the group disbanded in 2014 to pursue solo careers, they reunited yesterday -- though on Twitch, not YouTube -- to play the popular multiplayer social deduction game Among Us. “Let’s go back to 2014 for a day,” read various teasers that the group posted on social media ahead of the event.

When an actor is accused of wrongdoing and the film or TV project is already under way — or even wrapped — sometimes directors and producers go back and reshoot their scenes with a recast replacement.
“All the Money in the World”
After Kevin Spacey was accused of sexual misconduct, director Ridley Scott went back into production on “All the Money in the World” and reshot all of the actor’s scenes, this time with Christopher Plummer playing billionaire J. Paul Getty. (Plummer received an Oscar nomination for the role.)
“Ordeal by Innocence”
BBC had already shot a new adaptation of the Agatha Christie classic with “Gossip Girl” alum Ed Westwick as the rough-around-the-edges son of a wealthy family. But after Westwick faced accusations of sexual misconduct, the network went back and re-shot the limited series with “Magic City” alum Christian Cooke recast in the role.

The family of late YouTube star Corey La Barrie has launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for memorial expenses, as well as the inevitable financial hardships that will follow his loss.
The campaign has garnered 1,400 donations since its launch yesterday, reaching nearly $70,000 of a $150,000 goal in less than 24 hours, including donations from some of La Barrie’s close friends and fellow YouTube creators like Kian Lawley, Corinna Kopf, Scotty Sire, and photographer Bryant Eslava. You can add to the growing tally right here.
La Barrie, a comedic creator who also appeared in the first season of Lawley and Jc Caylen's The Reality House, died in an alleged drunk driving accident on Sunday, which also happened to be his 25th birthday. While European actors have long been mainstays on American television, recent years have seen American stars gaining traction as the leads in international productions. Sandra Oh’s award-winning turn in “Killing Eve,” Carrie Anne Moss in “Wisting,” Anna Paquin in “Flack” and Rob Lowe in “Wild Bill” are just a few examples of familiar Hollywood faces popping up on screens around Europe.
Their inclusion raises profile domestically, but crucially, it also helps to bolster the content internationally and secure the sales that help finance the shows.
This year, there is a new crop of well-known North American actors making an appearance in European projects: BBC series “World on Fire,” which stars Oscar winner Helen Hunt, premiered in the U.K. last September and will have its American debut on PBS this April. Meanwhile, Finnish fish-out-of-water comedy “Californian Commando,” starring American YouTube sensation Kian Lawley, is looking for its international home after premiering domestically in February,...

By many accounts, the first season of Kian Lawley and Jc Caylen’s Reality House was a massive success, garnering substantive buzz on social media and drumming up a collective 25 million views across all episodes.
The 10-episode, Big Brother-inspired reality series saw a slew of top YouTubers -- including Elijah Daniel, Dominic DeAngelis, Kristen McAtee, Lauren ‘LaurDIY’ Riihimaki, Jenn McAllister, Trisha Paytas, and Chad Tepper -- competing in various elimination challenges, with different houseguests being voted out each episode. The winner, Vine-turned-YouTube star Crawford Collins, took home a cool $25,000 in cash.
And now, given that the first outing was such a success, Lawley and Caylen have announced on social media that development on season two is already underway, and will begin filming on Nov. 14 -- over the course of five days. Season two will take place in a bigger mansion and double the cash prize -- up to $50,000. Lawley and Caylen,...

I love home invasion movies. Even moreso when those whose homes are being invaded are not quite who or, in some cases, what they appear. Three young robbers become victims of their own heist when they interrupt an AA-style meeting for recovering serial killers in Killer Party, a delightfully bloody horror from the producer of Sinister. Each of our would-be thieves have their reasons for attempting one last heist to ensure a better life, but not even the best of intentions will save them from the party’s killer line-up.

After acquiring Awesomeness last July, Viacom is pursuing a global rollout of the digital brand, which creates programming targeting Gen Z.
Awesomeness has pacted with Viacom’s Viacom International Studios (Vis) division -- which handles distribution abroad -- to find homes for a total of 18 series and eight films, Deadline reports. The deal was struck ahead of Miptv -- an annual content market kicking off next month in Cannes.
Some of the series that are set to roll out include the Kian Lawley-starring Zac & Mia, about two teens battling cancer, which originally premiered on Verizon's now-defunct go90 streaming service and has since rolled out to Hulu; the Hulu thriller Light As A Feather; and T@gged, another thriller that launched on go90 and now airs on Hulu, featuring heartthrob du jour Noah Centineo.

I have to think writer/director Chris von Hoffmann saw The Purge and wondered what could be born from reversing the good guy and bad guy roles. Those are generic terms of course since both movies ultimately contain bad guys and worse guys, but for the sake of argument we’ll say that the characters we’re supposed to hope survive are “good.” Rather than fear an impending invasion, however, the “good” guys in Monster Party are the infiltrators. A trio of two-bit thieves, Casper (Sam Strike) talks accomplices Dodge (Brandon Michael Hall) and Iris (Virginia Gardner) into crashing the latter’s latest mansion catering gig in order to steal enough Malibu elite money to save his father from a gangster’s grip. Unfortunately they don’t know what the party’s guests are celebrating.

We’ve got a trailer here for a crazy looking gory horror flick called Monster Party. The story centers on three teenage friends who plan to infiltrate a mansion dinner party and rob the place.
As you might imagine, things don’t really go as planned and the guests at the party aren’t who they seem to be. This is a secret party that hosted by a a serial killer cult for the social elite.

In 2015, The New York Times posted a video called “A Conversation with My Black Son,” which discusses the fact that black parents in this country have to talk to their children about what to do and how to act when pulled over by the police. “The Hate U Give” begins with that same talk, as Maverick and Lisa Carter (Regina Hall) explain to their tween son and daughter that they are to put their hands on the dashboard, fingers spread, and answer all of the officer’s questions politely and directly.
It’s very practical advice when, several years later, teenage Starr (Amandla Stenberg) sees a childhood friend shot and killed by a cop when the policeman mistakes the victim’s hairbrush for a gun. But even before this tragedy occurs, that opening scene makes its presence felt throughout the entire film. “The Hate U Give,” adapted by Audrey Wells...

In George Tillman, Jr.’s “The Hate U Give,” Starr Carter (Amandla Stenberg) leads a double life, straddling the predominantly black but violent neighborhood of Garden Heights, where she resides with her family, and the predominantly white Williamson School she attends, decoding her look and behavior to comfortably fit in.
For Romanian cinematographer Mihai Malaimare Jr. (“The Master”), it made perfect sense to visually separate the two worlds before they collide when Starr witnesses a white cop shoot her best friend, and becomes a Black Lives Matter-inspired activist.
“One of my first discussions with George was making these two worlds as different as possible, and it felt right to have the private school cooler and to give the Garden Heights neighborhood a warmer palette,” said Malaimare. “We were helped by the [Atlanta] locations, because most of the the schools we scouted had a similar look: a lot of grass outside and blue lockers.

Amandla Stenberg gets woke in the first trailer for director George Tillman Jr.’s Black Lives Matter-themed drama “The Hate U Give.”
Stenberg stars as Starr Carter, a young woman who is constantly switching between two worlds: the poor, mostly black, neighborhood where she lives and the rich, mostly white, prep school she attends.
The uneasy balance between these worlds is shattered when Starr witnesses the fatal shooting of her childhood best friend Khalil at the hands of a white police officer. Now, facing pressures from all sides of the community, Starr must find her voice and stand up for what’s right.

Fox has given its teen drama “The Hate U Give” an awards-season release of Oct. 19.
The release date news comes after the studio in April cast “Riverdale” star K.J. Apa to replace Kian Lawley, who was dropped two months earlier from the project over videos that surfaced in which he uttered racist slurs.
Lawley was set to play the boyfriend of the film’s star, Amandla Stenberg, in the movie based on Angela Thomas’ bestselling novel of the same name, which centers on race and police brutality. He was fired from the project on Feb. 5 and apologized at the time.
The role of the boyfriend is a key component of “The Hate U Give,” which also stars Regina Hall, Russell Hornsby, Algee Smith, Lamar Johnson, and Common. Stenberg plays a 16-year-old girl named Starr who grew up in a poverty-stricken area, but now attends a suburban prep school. After she...

“Variety” is a word a lot Hollywood studios throw around when they make their annual sales pitch to American theater owners at CinemaCon — they boast a versatile slate of films that appeal to all audiences across the 12-month calendar.
Lionsgate closed this year’s exhibitor convention in Las Vegas on Thursday, and while they have a grab bag of mid-range films to offer the marketplace, there wasn’t a credible amount of cohesive identity on display.
They did have fun, we’ll admit. Watching Blake Lively mix a martini beside Anna Kendrick as they ribbed their “A Simple Favor” director Paul Feig was as stylish and effective as it could be for the dead last presentation in a four-day assault of footage and celebrity speeches.

The “friller” — a fun thriller, Feig swears! — sees Lively as an edgy suburban transplant who ropes her mommy blogger pal Kendrick into a web of lies and danger.
Then there was the steely action of “Robin Hood,” where “Kingsman” star Taron Edgerton trades Saville Row suites for “Game of Thrones”-style chainmail and a bow and arrow to rob from the rich and so on. Jamie Foxx and liberated “50 Shades” star Jamie Dornan upped intrigue in the trailer played.
Cheeky titles like basketball comedy “Uncle Drew” with Tiffany Haddish and the slapstick “The Spy Who Dumped Me,” with Mila Kunis and Kate McKinnon, also prove the studio and its imprint Summit Entertainment still know how to lure and weaponize talent.
We also can’t omit the golden goose they won at Sundance, Daveed Diggs and Rafael Casal’s stunning racial dramedy “Blindspotting.” The men who spent nine years writing the opus and valentine to Oakland, California, shook the crowd from their Vegas hangovers with a spoken work tribute to victims of police violence and the rampant gentrification their hometown is enduring.
But who is Lionsgate these days?
“The Hunger Games” has been sated and put to bed. The easy cash of the torture porn franchise “Saw” has ebbed, and a possible ninth film seems unlikely at this point. Their Oscar-winning musical “La La Land” has widely been called a fluke push of the greenlight button on Hollywood’s byways.

Making his CinemaCon debut, Lionsgate Motion Picture Group co-chair Joe Drake assured the theater owners that they have another franchise cooking, and it has two undeniable names and a blockbuster book as source material.
That would be “The Kingkiller Chronicles,” a series hopeful that has Sam Raimi as a director and Lin-Manuel Miranda as producer and “musical mastermind.”
He also signaled he’ll be exerting more control over the slate, perhaps defining the emotional software update the studio seems to need.
“We’re building for 2019 with a slate that is diverse, spanning all genres, loaded with stars and deep in areas of proven strength,” Drake said.
Studio domestic distrbution head David Spitz opened the presentation with the same battle cry everyone else did — that despite mass media consolidation (for which Lionsgate is target, by the way) the only thing they do every day in the film group is make movies to put in theaters.
It’s likely you’ll see a few in the coming year, but it’ll take a lot more than a “Hamilton” name-drop and stiff martini to convince us they know where they’re going.

“The Hate U Give” star Amandla Stenberg has spoken out about the real-life racial drama that rocked the production of a film inspired by the Black Lives Matter movement.
“I was salty in the reshoots, I couldn’t help it,” Stenberg said of the need to return to the already-in-the-can film after co-star Kian Lawley, a YouTube star who played a love interest, was abruptly fired by 20th Century Fox Film in February after web clips surfaced of Lawley using the N-word.
“But it really helped my performance, I think,” she added of refilming those scenes with a newly cast actor, “Riverdale” breakout K.J. Apa.

The firestorm over Lawley’s past online activity “really hit us out of the blue,” director George Tillman Jr. told TheWrap at CinemaCon following a powerful preview of their political drama. He noted that the scandal hit just as he was delivering a first director’s cut of the film to the studio.
“Amandla was on vacation in Japan, and she was one of the first people I spoke with after the studio. We felt collectively it was the best thing for the movie. This is the kind of message were trying to say … we didn’t want anyone to have the kind of stigma behind us,” he said.
Stenberg noted that there was an upside to going back on set for weeks of emotionally charged reshoots opposite her new co-star.
“It helped contribute to even better work. We have to be extremely careful with the narrative, in terms of how we distribute the movie. We have to make sure it’s very clear that we authentically care about the topic of the film from root to finish,” she said.

Lawley released an apology on Twitter at the time, saying, “I’ve learned a lot and I am grateful to have the power to change. I never want to be who I was yesterday. we’re in a constant battle to become a better version of ourselves, use [sic] ur voice as ur weapon.”
Stenberg called Apa “an angel,” and she wound up learning about Samoan culture since the actor’s father is a chief on the Polynesian islands.
“There’s a send of morality so deeply instilled in him. It’s so beautiful,” she said.

Fox has cast “Riverdale” star K.J. Apa in its drama “The Hate U Give,” two months after the studio dropped Kian Lawley from the project over videos that surfaced in which he uttered racist slurs.
Fox 2000 has authorized more than a week of re-shoots in Atlanta. Lawley was set to play the boyfriend of the film’s star, Amandla Stenberg, in the movie based on Angela Thomas’ novel of the same name, which centers on race and police brutality. He was fired from the project on Feb. 5.

Exclusive: Riverdale star K.J. Apa has been set to play a lead role in The Hate U Give, the George Tillman Jr-directed drama for Fox 2000. In a move somewhat reminiscent of the All The Money In The World re-shoots that replaced Kevin Spacey with Christopher Plummer, Fox 2000 has authorized a little over a week of re-shoots after the studio dropped Kian Lawley. Unlike the Getty kidnap drama, this film hasn’t yet been dated for release, but the film had pretty much wrapped.
The drastic move was necessitated after videos surfaced in which the YouTube star Lawley uttered several racist slurs. Though Lawley apologized, the slurs he used completely undermine a topical movie inspired by the Black Lives Matter movement. Lawley was quickly dropped as a client by CAA, and now he will be scrubbed from the picture.

YouTuber-actor Kian Lawley has landed his latest role in a feature drama called The Hate U Give.
The film, which is currently in production in Atlanta, stars Amandla Stenberg (The Hunger Games) as a young girl named Starr Carter caught between two worlds: the poverty-stricken, predominantly black neighborhood where she lives, and her rich, mostly white prep school. Starr then serves as the sole witness to the murder of her best friend -- who may or may not have been a drug dealer -- at the hands of a police officer.
Lawley will play Stenberg’s boyfriend in the film, Deadline reports, whose name is Chris.
