Fox News is probably the most nefarious, hypocritical news network out there (deal with it), and it’s largely thanks to the despicable men who helped make it the conservative-leaning media giant that it is today. No one deserves more credit for the degradation of cable news than Roger Ailes, and the story of his takedown […]

Given how Fox News dominates the airwaves as the mouthpiece for the right and President Trump, it’s not surprising how Fox and its propaganda fascinates us all. But “Bombshell,” a new movie by Jay Roach from Lionsgate,is more interested in the legacy of Roger Ailes, the man who launched Fox News off the ground and made it become what it is today.

Each day a different year in review topic. Here's Glenn Dunks...
Documentaries had one of their biggest years on record in 2018. In fact, the upper realms of non-fiction at the North American box office started to look like what the foreign-language charts once looked like. There was at least one major cross-over smash, several very impressive eight-figure grossers, a selection of not insignificant titles that did over one-million, and a long list of niche titles that did business anywhere from respectable to disappointing depending on expectations and release size. The year even started strong for docs with 2017 hits Bombshell the Hedy Lamarr Story and Faces/Places continuing to earn tidy sums buoyed by word of mouth and an Oscar nomination respectively.
My column Doc Corner will continue in 2019 so here’s hoping the new year offers just as bountiful a crop. It's been good to see documentaries reaching the mainstream,...

Even after his death, Sumner Redstone sought to ensure that his heirs retain a significant stake in CBS Corp. and Viacom.
A provision in the trust agreement that will govern Redstone’s controlling stakes in CBS and Viacom after his death is designed to put some restrictions on sale options for CBS and Viacom by stipulating that the trust must maintain at least 30% of the voting interest in the resulting entity in the event of a sale, according to multiple sources. That would make it difficult for CBS or Viacom to be acquired by a significantly larger entity.
The provision came to light during an exchange between lawyers on Wednesday in Delaware Chancery Court, where CBS and Redstone’s National Amusements Inc. are battling over CBS’ lawsuit challenging Nai’s control of CBS Corp. The suit is a byproduct of the battle between CBS Corp. chief Leslie Moonves and Nai...

Two of the most talked about shows right now — both streaming on Netflix — are “Nanette,” the passionate and potentially game-changing performance by comedian Hannah Gadsby, and “Bombshell,” a documentary about the woman many consider the most beautiful to ever grace a screen.
On the face of it, you might think there could not be two more diverse women: Gadsby is an Australian gender- and genre-probing lesbian. Hedy Lamarr was an Austrian-born Jew who emigrated here and found film stardom — as well as six husbands. But viewers are clearly responding to both women who, while more than 70 years apart, are capturing a moment. The truth is, if the two time-traveled to meet, they might say, “Yeah, me too!”
Gadsby, whose powerful and surprising rant of a performance manages to analyze and question her dedication to stand-up comedy — claims she has often been the butt of jokes, and asks what self-deprecation means...

It’s not that Alexandra Dean’s documentary “Bombshell: The Hedy Lamarr Story” starts off with a montage of individuals attesting to the legendary actress’ on-screen allure. It’s how quickly the film moves past that to a more profound understanding of the woman behind the face. “Bombshell,” which airs this week as part of PBS’ American Masters series, is a biography of a classic film star that doesn’t need to do much to bolster Lamarr’s bona fides as someone who captivated the moviegoing public’s attention.
But even if Lamarr (born Hedwig Kiesler in 1914 Austria) is best known for her roles, she left behind a legacy that extends far beyond her filmography. It’s a testament to both Lamarr’s life and Dean’s crafting of the film that the interview subjects for this doc extend into a variety of fields. There are film historians, family members, friends, and the man who becomes a kind of unofficial narrator of the film, Pulitzer Prize-winning author Richard Rhodes.

Smash is real, you guys. Sort of. Six years after playing Karen Cartwright, a Broadway ingénue on NBC's critically-adored and lambasted musical drama, current Scorpion star Katharine McPhee makes her debut on the Great White Way in Waitress. McPhee is taking over the role of Jenna, originally played by Jessie Mueller on stage and Keri Russell on screen, until June. "I found out this last December," McPhee told E! News' Sibley Scoles at Paw Works' 4th Annual Ties & Tails Gala. "I was elated…I have been practicing the songs for months before people even knew that I was going to be in this show." In Smash, McPhee played a struggling actress who got her big break in Bombshell, a...

Welcome to Rumorville! Here you can learn about casting news that’s about to break in Hollywood. These speculations might be only rumors, but that doesn’t mean you can’t follow the trail all the way to the audition room. “Smash”It’s no secret that fans of NBC’s “Smash” feel the show was gone too soon. But the musical show about the preparation of an ambitious musical centered on the life of Marilyn Monroe has also had a better afterlife than anyone could have imagined, especially NBC Entertainment chairman Robert Greenblatt. After a 2015 concert of the musical-within-a-musical “Bombshell” was sold out in a little over an hour, there have been rumors around the stage and screen worlds of a return for “Smash,” this time on Broadway. According to Greenblatt, they're looking at ways to possibly stage a musical based on “Bombshell” or “Smash,” or a combination of the two.

The actor, who depicted film’s first female orgasm, was well known for her scandalous love life and sultry beauty. Now, a new documentary explores how her scientific talents were vastly overlooked
Hedy Lamarr, the star MGM called “the most beautiful woman in the world”, had two of the worst-kept secrets in Hollywood. One of them, she could never escape until long after her career was over. The other, the press took little interest in at the time – but since her death in 2000, this is the story that has come to define her. A new documentary about Lamarr’s life, released this weekend, encapsulates both stories – one about sex and the other about science – in the innuendo of its title: Bombshell. Lamarr’s story is one of a brilliant woman who was consistently underestimated. It also gives us the clearest possible illustration of why on-screen representation matters – of all the...

Prior to watching Bombshell, I had never heard of Hedy Lamarr. This is shameful for a film critic and feminist to confess, considering the sumptuous life-story that the actor/inventor always wanted to tell. But first-time documentary filmmaker Alexandra Dean has set me right, sympathetically revealing the brains behind the beauty.
Hedy Lamarr (born Hedwig Kiesler) was a Hollywood actor from Austria, who worked mainly for Louis B. Mayer at MGM between the ‘30s and ‘50s. She was known for her good looks and as a potent sex symbol, whose fame began in 1933 after the release of the notorious Austrian film Ecstasy. The movie was made famous (or infamous) by its nudity, and its being one of the first cinematic portrayals of a female orgasm. But, as Dean is sure to drum into our unenlightened minds, Lamarr was so much more than a pretty airhead.

Chicago – Hedy Lamarr was tagged as “the world’s most beautiful woman” in movies during her brief run as matinee idol during the 1940s. While taking that on, she was also co-inventing a wireless guidance system during World War II. Director Alexandra Dean contrasts that double life in “Bombshell: The Hedy Lamarr Story.”
The documentary film – an impressive look at a somewhat famous woman both in her time and ahead of it – explores how an extraordinarily beautiful immigrant from Vienna became an American movie star, and in her spare time co-invented a wireless “frequency hopping” system that was the root of Gps, wi-fi and other technological marvels of our age. Dismissed in her era, and finally recognized when she well past her prime, Hedy Lamarr is a fascinating both as a film star and as an innovator. The documentary opens Friday, January 19th, 2018, at the Music Box Theatre in Chicago.

In case you don't, you're not alone despite the fact that O'Brien was featured – in both large and small roles – in about 100 films, from the dawn of the sound era to 1981. That in addition to nearly 50 television appearances, from the early '50s to the early '80s. Never a top star or a critics' favorite, O'Brien was nevertheless one of the busiest Hollywood leading men – and second leads – of the 1930s. In that decade alone, mostly at Warner Bros., he was seen in nearly 60 films, from Bs (Hell's House, The Final Edition) to classics (American Madness, Angels with Dirty Faces). Turner Classic Movies is showing nine of those today, Nov. 11, '15, in honor of what would have been the Milwaukee-born O'Brien's 116th birthday. Pat O'Brien and James Cagney Spencer Tracy had Katharine Hepburn.

Blonde bombshell Kellie Pickler is no stranger to the annual ABC special Cma Country Christmas. Her choice this year was her new single "Man With The Bag," a remake of the 1954 holiday tune by Kay Starr.
Kellie's version is bubbly, jazzy and a lot of fun. Above is an short Instagram of the performance. The video isn't great, but the audio is terrific. We'll post the full video as soon as we have it. "Man With the Bag" was released as a single by Pickler earlier this year, so if you were a fan of her Marilyn Monroe-esque performance, download it now.
During her pre-performance interview, Pickler was talking about her favorite holiday foods and she had an interesting answer -- "fried okra." That sounds delicious to us, but her husband Kyle Jacobs wasn't quite sure what to make of that. Heh.

Big Brother 14 Week 3/Week 1 Review - Kill Me Now...
Remember when Big Brother used to be exciting and lived up to their motto of 'Expect the Unexpected?' Well, after tonight's little switcheroo, I don't see the Big Brother that I revolved my entire summer around returning anytime soon, or rather my excitement for said show. Now, Big Brother's ominous motto of 'Expect the Unexpected' has become a joke of itself... and not a funny one that. But you are not here to read my whining. So let's get to tonight's "gamechanging" episode, and I use gamechanging lightly.
As the night began, the HGs were running around reacting to Shane's decision to put Frank on the block instead of Danielle or one of Mike Boogie's lesser liked players, like Ian. The move sent Mike into ass-kicking mode, but Frank told his mentor to chill out and trust Shane's...

Big Brother 14 Week 3 Pov Competition & Ceremony - The Night the $#*% Hit The Fan
Tonight's Big Brother episode was a testament to how live feeds don't necessarily hold the same excitement as an actual Big Brother episode can entail. While I knew the outcome of the Pov ceremony and the chaos it caused in its wake, the editing and confessionals enhanced that knowledge threefold. However, it still didn't help deter my utter horror of the Coaches becoming players this week, because let's face it: it's going to happen.
After nominations were given, Janelle rallied her troops together to encourage them to show no ill will towards Shane for his nominations. Joe was hella pissed, while Ashley was distraught, but got over it. Janelle later went to speak to Britney, who explained that Shane's reasoning for nominating her players was backlash for Janelle and crew splitting from Britney's crew after week one.

Brooklyn Decker doesn't think she looks 'that great in person'. The Sports Illustrated model-turned-actress insists she isn't as attractive in person as she appears in her photo shoots and she didn't enjoy seeing herself on the big screen in her new movie 'What To Expect When You're Expecting'. The 25-year-old blonde - who stars in the film alongside Cameron Diaz and Matthew Morrison - told the New York Post newspaper: 'I have a glow, but it's good make-up. I cover up spots. Jeez, I'm not all that great in person ... And seeing myself all blown up on-screen? Times a million enlarged? My face looks like it's been PhotoShopped. It's unnerving.' If you want to see where everybody got the ideas for their science fiction films of the past half century, watch “Forbidden Planet.” This movie is out of this world. In fact, it was the first film to be set entirely on a planet other than Earth. It’s not unusual in Tinseltown to find folks operating on a plane of their own, but a planet of their own was simply unheard of in 1956.
The special effects – groundbreaking stuff that became an industry standard – were nominated for an Academy Award. The Oscar was won by The Ten Commandments that year. Another 1956 space flick was nominated for the short subject Oscar – “Gerald McBoing-Boing On Planet Moo” – but it didn’t win either. It was beaten out by “Mister Magoo’s Puddle Jumper.” Aah, the scales of justice can tilt harshly.

Blonde bombshell Alice Eve is the first new cast member officially announced to Paramount's next Star Trek movie. But who will she play in the sequel?
If you're a Trekkie, then your mind has already raced ahead and cast Eve as the new Nurse Chapel. However, the source that broke the casting news also is quick to report that Eve's character is supposed to be a new addition to the Trek universe. That would rule out her playing Chapel or a younger Carol Marcus, love interest of James Kirk, both of whom were blondes.
While Eve is the first official casting break, there's also the rumor that Benicio Del Toro and his camp are weighing an offer to play the new bad guy in the next Trek film. Also, Variety states that there's a third important role to be filled, likely an older comrade to Del Toro's villain.

Poupoupidou (Nobody Else But You)
Director: Gérald Hustache-Mathieu
Screenplay by Juliette Sales and Gérald Hustache-Mathieu
In French with English subtitles
How much do you really know about cinema’s most famous blonde? Director Gérald Hustache-Mathieu’s Poupoupidou isn’t a biopic of Marilyn Monroe, but certain details about the life and death of Martine Lingevin, aka Candice Lecoeur, aka cheese poster girl “Belle de Jura” may seem very familiar.
That title is a reference to “I Wanna Be Loved by You”, Marilyn’s famous number from Some Like It Hot. The opening credits seem to be taking their cue from Bert Stern’s Vogue photos – diaphanous top, nipple, bare flesh. It’s just the tip of the iceberg for cinephiles – an appropriate metaphor for a movie set in a snowbound town in Eastern France.
Poupoupidou is one of those films in which the two leading characters never meet because one of them is already dead.

At 17, not many people can attest to having multiple certified platinum albums, a 3D movie about themselves, and millions of fans screaming their name, but yet again, Bieber has just raised the bar.
According to Terry Lundgren, president and chief executive officer of Macy’s Inc., Justin Bieber‘s Someday fragrance “has now become the biggest celebrity fragrance launch on record.” The mad mob of Bieber fans at Macy’s Herold Square location launch of the fragrance on June 23 may have had something to do with it! Celebrity fragrances are released left and right. Beyonce, Britney Spears, Jessica Simpson and Jennifer Lopez are just a very miniscule glimpse at the celeb fragrances currently on the market, but it seems that these stars have some serious competition in the form of Justin – and it doesn’t sound like he’s stopping anytime soon.

Like the fiery redhead or the sultry brunet, the cool blonde is one of those old-fashioned, L’Oréal-sanctioned visual codes for female sexual temperament that white western audiences still eat up like yellow popcorn. Alfred Hitchcock knew that — that’s why he made a fetish of his blond heroines, none cooler on the outside (and, if fantasies came true, hotter on the inside) than Grace Kelly.

Emma Roberts dazzles again at this Hollywood party! Get her naturally gorgeous look for yourself!
Emma Roberts, 20, hosted the Nylon magazine Young Hollywood Celebration on May 4 in La wearing beautiful natural makeup and lovely soft curls. Read on to get the look!
Why this works: Emma has great skin and doesn’t need to wear a lot of makeup to look put together. A little mascara and eyeliner goes a long way — and a punch of bronze in those pink lips give her a pretty pout!
Put on a liquid foundation all over your face and set it with a loose powder. Add a pink blush to the apples of your cheeks and layer bronzer on top. Line your eyes with a black pencil eyeliner and blend in with a dark brown. Then add a light beige shimmer eyeshadow on to your eyelids. Apply mascara to your upper and lower eyelashes.

One of MGM's brightest stars of the 1930s, Jean Harlow died of uremic poisoning in 1937. At the time, the 26-year-old actress had been playing opposite Clark Gable in what turned out to be her last film, Saratoga. Perhaps because she died so young, Harlow has remained a well-known film personality from that era. Her MGM vehicles — Dinner at 8, Bombshell, China Seas, Wife vs. Secretary, Libeled Lady — are often shown on Turner Classic Movies; David Stenn has written a well-regarded biography; and now comes Mark Vieira and Darrell Rooney's Harlow in Hollywood: The Blonde Bombshell in the Glamour Capital 1928-1937 (Angel City Press, 2011). Celebrating Jean Harlow's centenary (she was born on March 3, 1911), Harlow in Hollywood is a both a written and a (stunning) visual chronicle of Jean Harlow's career, as Vieira and Rooney cover Harlow's ascendancy from movie extra and bit player in the late 1920s [...]...

It's been said that blondes have more fun. For years -- millennia -- blond hair has been a signifier of something special, otherworldly and seductive. Venus was graced with flowing blond curls, Milton gave Adam and Eve golden tresses, and fairy tale maidens like Goldilocks and Rapunzel were adored for their flaxen hair.
In the 20th century, the blonde fervor increased. Anita Loos published her 1925 novel 'Gentlemen Prefer Blondes' (later turned into the classic '50s film), and after the brown tendrils of cinema's great silent actresses, the '30s dropped a tantalizing bomb. Blondie Jean Harlow starred as sexpot Lola Burns in 'Bombshell,' becoming the first 'blonde bombshell' and ushering in a wave of tow-headed cinematic seductresses from Jayne Mansfield to Marilyn Monroe. Blonde bombshell Brooklyn Decker is sporting a new look after axing 10 whole inches of her signature locks.
Decker debuted her new look via Twitter, posting "Chopped my hair Off today!! Thank you!! I love!! @jasonhueman @tedgibson."
"Brooklyn's updated, modern bob is on trend for 2011," stylist Ted Gibson tells People. "Shorter hair can be sexy, confident and super modern, and I think hair that is too long isn't chic or fashionable right now."
Unfortunately, Decker has color treated hair and was unable to donate to the charity Locks of Love, which provides hairpieces to children suffering from medical hair loss. Still, the bob works and it's definitely a fresh look for the "Just Go With It" star.

Richard Madeley has admitted that while he was upset for his daughter Chloe when she fell on Sunday’s live Dancing On Ice show, he thinks the drama and excitement was a good thing in the end.
Blonde bombshell Chloe will join former Eastenders actor Sam Attwater and Nickelodeon presenter Laura Hamilton on this weekend’s final and writing on his blog about the moment where she tripped over Michael’s leg and brought them both down on the rink, Richard wrote on his blog:
“I will never hear Katy Perry’s Firework again without seeing in my mind’s eye Chloe and Michael taking their first tumble yet on the ice.”
“But it all adds to the drama. In fact, I told Chloe after her and Michael’s brilliant skate-off performance punched them into this Sunday’s final.
“If I was scripting Doi as a drama I’d have written in that accident.

William Powell, Myrna Loy, Jean Harlow, Spencer Tracy in Jack Conway's Libeled Lady Turner Classic Movies' Jean Harlow film series continues this evening with four of Harlow's MGM vehicles — Bombshell, Personal Property, Reckless, and Libeled Lady — and one supporting appearance in Warner Bros.' The Public Enemy. Harlow really doesn't have much to do in The Public Enemy (1931). She looks about as out of place in this otherwise solid William A. Wellman crime drama as she is in Frank Capra's melodrama Platinum Blonde, released that same year. James Cagney, however, looks anything but out of place as a sociopathic gangster. Cagney, in fact, was so right for that particular role that early on in the production he exchanged gangsters with fellow player Edward Woods. In Victor Fleming's Bombshell, Harlow, known as the Blonde Bombshell, stars in a send-up of her own Hollywood stardom (and Clara Bow's as well). Personally,...

The IMDb250. A list of the top 250 films as ranked by the users of the biggest internet movie site on the web. It is based upon the ratings provided by the users of the Internet Movie Database, which number into the millions. As such, it’s a perfect representation of the opinions of the movie masses, and arguably the most comprehensive ranking system on the Internet.
It’s because of this that we at HeyUGuys (and in this case we is myself and Barry) have decided to set ourselves a project. To watch and review all 250 movies on the list. We’ve frozen the list as of January 1st of this year. It’s not as simple as it sounds, we are watching them all in one year, 125 each.
