Married to Medicine star Dr. Jackie Walters says she is “brokenhearted” but “moved to be better” amid controversy over comments she made in 2020. Walters, an Ob-gyn, is facing backlash from fans after saying in an interview with costar Dr. Heavenly Kimes on the latter’s Heaven Help Us podcast that Black women sometimes cry wolf with their doctors during pregnancy, as Deadline reports. “Sometimes as African-American women, we’re a bit more dramatic, and that you go to the doctor, and you complain, and you complain, and you complain, and you’re not taken seriously because you cried wolf the entire pregnancy,” Walters said at the time. “As African-American women, we want to also make sure you’re being serious with your doctor and not playing the game … Because then, we see you 25 times in the pregnancy, it’s hard to believe that there’s a true problem when there’s a true problem.

The audience at the Cannes Film Festival was trembling for Austin Butler as the King in Baz Luhrmann’s world premiere of “Elvis.”
The film received an uproarious 12-minute standing ovation, the longest of this year’s festival so far.
As the the cheers went on and on, a teary-eyed Butler hugged an equally-emotional Priscilla Presley, who flew to the South of France to give her blessing for the movie about her late husband.
The Warner Bros. musical drama had Cannes spontaneously erupting into applause as Butler recreated some of Presley’s greatest hits including “Jailhouse Rock,” “Blue Suede Shoes” and “Suspicious Minds.”
“Elvis” is one of the biggest titles to screen at Cannes, with a star-studded carpet that included Sharon Stone, Shakira, Kylie Minogue, Diplo, Jeremy O. Harris and Italian rock band Måneskin.

If you're a child of the '80s (or a fan of films from that decade), you're probably already a huge fan of Andrew McCarthy. He was part of the Brat Pack, the star of "Pretty In Pink," "St. Elmo's Fire," "Mannequin," "Weekend at Bernie's," "Heaven Help Us," "Fresh Horses," and "Less Than Zero," which turns 35 this year. He's also appeared in "Good Girls," and will have a recurring role in "The Resident," and you've likely seen his directing work in "Orange is the New Black," "Good Girls," and "The Blacklist."

It’s a new year and everyone wants to put the vile cesspool that was 2020 behind them. Thankfully, HBO Max is coming out swinging to make the transition out of the hellyear even easier. HBO Max’s list of new releases for January 2021 is positively packed with notable film releases and even a fun HBO Max Original or two.
For starters, Search Party season 4 will arrive to HBO Max on Jan. 14. This season of the show with a now-surprising lifespan finds Dory Sief in the thrall of a deranged stalker…right after getting off on murder charges. These Brooklynites lead such fascinating lives! The other major original or note is the HBO documentary Tiger, that premieres on Jan. 10 and will delve into the complicated history of golfing legend Tiger Woods.

Another year, and another daunting challenge to keep up with the number of streaming options available from the big online players. And to mark January 1st, there’s some new content to enjoy on the likes of Netflix, Disney Plus and HBO Max, among others, as well as several notable changes in licensing agreements that may affect how you can watch your favorite shows.
On Netflix, the biggest fresh release is the third season of Cobra Kai, which has been a hit for the service since making the move from YouTube. Critics are already dishing out praise for the latest block of episodes of The Karate Kid spinoff, which had its premiere date bumped up by a week. Other highlights, meanwhile, include Netflix documentary The Minimalists: Less Is Now, and a lot of licensed movies ranging from Bonnie and Clyde to Goodfellas.

A new year is just around the corner and as folks start getting ready to say goodbye to the nightmare that was 2020, it’s time to look ahead at all the great movies and TV shows coming down the pipeline to keep us entertained over the next 12 months.
Hopes are high that things will begin to return to normal again and productions will be able to run smoother, meaning less delays and setbacks. And with 2021 absolutely packed with new releases right now, there’s more than enough to get excited about no matter where your interests lie.

The first of the month is typically when the variety of streaming services on offer bolster their respective libraries with a mixture of original and pre-existing content, freshening things up for subscribers in the process. January 1st also happens to be the first day of 2021, though, so people might be expecting a little more than just a handful of new additions, and HBO Max are stepping up to the plate in a big way.
Of course, Wonder Woman 1984 is set to entice millions to sign up for Warner Bros.’ platform, especially when the entire slate of theatrical releases are also heading to the streaming site on the same day that they hit the big screen. And keen to capitalize on the inevitable influx of new customers, HBO Max is adding a massive amount of film and television titles on January 1st, with the onslaught set to continue over the next 30 days.

Variety reports this morning that John Heard, the longtime character actor best-known as the dad in Home Alone, has died at 72. No cause of death is known at this time, but TMZ reports that Heard was found in a hotel where he was reportedly recovering from a “minor back surgery” he had on Wednesday at Stanford Medical Center.
Few actors could rival Heard’s long and varied acting career. He started out in TV movies in the ’70s and was working steadily right up until his death. Although best-known for his patriarch role in two Home Alone movies, he also had major roles in ’80s hits like Big and Beaches. Other standouts from his career heyday include appearances in After Hours, Heaven Help Us, The Trip To Bountiful, and The Pelican Brief.

It influenced Stephen King's seminal horror novel, The Shining, and was the basis for a 1976 film starring Karen Black and Oliver Reed. There are roughly 900,000 tribute pieces online this week about the 1985 John Hughes film "The Breakfast Club," and I understand the motivation. If you were the right age when the film was released (I was 15 at the time), that movie felt like a lightning bolt right to the face. Hughes treated teenagers like they were actual people with complex emotional lives worthy of respect, and while that would seem to be a logical approach to writing about any character, it certainly didn't feel average when he did it. He wrote about that secret world of teenagers with what felt like laser accuracy, and he basically created an entire industry of movies that tried to tap into that same audience. So certainly, there is much to celebrate when looking back at that particular film, but when I went to look at a list of the films that came out in 1985, a year...

We don't envy movie marketing teams their task. If there's one thing Twitter has taught us, it's that condensing even a fleeting thought into 140 characters can be hard work, never mind the plot, tone and ethos of a feature-length movie.
But there's no getting around the fact that sometimes, they miss the mark. By a long way. By such a wide margin that it's no longer a margin so much as a chasm.
Below, Digital Spy rounds up 17 of the most mind-bogglingly rubbish taglines in movie history.
1.
The combination of this tagline and the poster image is profoundly unfortunate.

Also, don't ever watch Alex Cross.

“Buy a Bag, Go Home in a Box.” You have no idea how thrilled I am to report that one of my absolute favorite horror movies of the Nineties, Popcorn, will get a fully-loaded special edition Blu-ray sometime around Halloween this year courtesy of Synapse Films.
For the uninitiated, Popcorn is a love letter to the golden age of b-movies in the guise of a fun slasher flick about film students putting on an all-night bad movie horror film festival; a master-of-disguise maniac begins killing them off during the show via twisted takes on old school movie theater gimmicks.
The true highlights are the fake movies-within-the-movie lovingly paying homage to the b-movies of the Fifties and Sixties: The Amazing Electrified Man, The Stench, and Mosquito!
As much as I’ve had a major soft spot for Popcorn since seeing it in theaters opening weekend, I clearly don’t love it...

Elizabeth Wurtzel’s 'The Bachelor' Recap: The Prettiest Girls In The Room, All in a Room Together Heaven help us with all their goddamn feelings. by Elizabeth Wurtzel It’s time for another episode of The Bachelor, America’s pre-eminent reality show for romantic group dates, high-profile rejections, crying pharmaceutical saleswomen, and rendering the phrase “true love” utterly meaningless through ceaseless repetition. This season, we have asked Elizabeth Wurtzel, author of Prozac Nation and Bitch, to confront our favorite national circus nightmare. Join Elizabeth each Tuesday for all of her opinions on the squabbling and hot-tubbing that’s fit to air on ABC. Here is some advice: If you are noticeably beautiful, with legs as long as a traffic pole, and as an 18-year-old NBA dancer you get pregnant by your basketball player boyfriend, you must have an abortion. This is not a philosophical argument that any intelligent...

Not since the days of Jedward, Olly Murs and Rikki Loney (?!) has X Factor treated us to a Big Band Week. It's a chance for the acts to show off their most powerful vocal performances and knock out some good old fashioned Rat Pack classics. Or at least that's the plan anyway.
Can Sam Callahan finally win over Gary Barlow? How old is Nicholas McDonald? (16!!) And will Nicole Scherzinger be as 'excited' as she was on last week's Live Show? These are all questions we hope will be answered this evening.
Join us from 8pm when it all kicks off again on ITV.
21:32See you tomorrow at 8pm. Celine Dion and Robbie Williams are the special guests. Thanks for all the comments, as always. We love them all. Good and bad.
21:30That's all for tonight folks. There's no Flash Vote tonight. You'll have to wait 24 hours to find...

John Cusack is back in a ferocious spy role updated to the information universe. Look out. Heaven help us all, but after seeing John Cusack in .Grosse Pointe Blank. he was our favorite spy. There is something smarmy about Cusack. It could be those beady eyes, that dark complexion. He always has a chip on his shoulder and is frustrated in trying to get somebody to knock it off. In this film screenwriter F. Scott Frazier has provided a nice bunch of assassins for a pace paced, stripped down, mano-a-mano slug fest. The film is lean and mean, with no car chases or gratuitous explosions or motorcycle madness. It is set in cold war information bunkers, the ultimate defense...

Previously on Once Upon A Time, Emma and Regina did magic together, Red all but proposed to Snow White, Ruby almost kissed Belle but chained her up instead, and Mulan shoved her hand in Aurora's chest to replace the heart she won back for her. Everything was gay and nothing hurt (until they didn't invite Regina to dinner).
We open with the not-so-welcome reminder that Cora and Captain Eyeliner have docked in Storybrooke, their intentions less than pure. Hook wants to storm in, guns (swords?) blazing, but Cora gives the kind of speech a grandmother would give and tells him to cool his jets. A kindly fisherman comes and offers to open his tackle shop early for them, but Cora turns him into a fish. Poor soul never stood a chance.

Three 14-year-olds cause all sorts of trouble in and around their Catholic middle school. Sounds pretty familiar, perhaps, a bit obvious, and possibly even downright dull. I mean, who still makes movies about troublemaking teenagers these days? First-time fraternal-twin filmmakers Kevin and Matthew McManus just made one, and it's sort of great. Sure, it's laden with vulgar talk for some easy laughs, but that's about where the simple stuff ends. At its best moments, Funeral Kings is a mixture of Stand By Me, Superbad, the deservedly obscure Heaven Help Us, and a particularly perceptive, enjoyably gritty independent comedy that knows what it's talking about. The town is unnamed and the era is unspecified, but our three central characters are the baby-faced Charlie (Alex Maizus), the...

Embargoes are dumbass, and even more so when they involve matters of no consequence like showbiz. And still more so when the movie review at issue was positive like David Denby’s critique of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo in The New Yorker. In my opinion, no film reviewer should ever agree to embargoes because doing what the studios want is a slippery slope. It’s just a short hop to becoming part of Hollywood’s publicity machine. In this case, producer Scott Rudin is the biggest baby on the planet. (Remember how, when The Social Network began losing to The King’s Speech last awards season, he stopped attending every honoring ceremony including the Oscars? No class.) And Sony Pictures Entertainment’s Amy Pascal on the phone just now told me the studio has been “wrestling” with this since Friday night. Yet she couldn’t explain why these...

Having written about the realms of Us politics (The American President, the frankly peerless West Wing) and then TV production (Studio 60), Aaron Sorkin, who for my money is as gifted and talented a writer as there is out there, now seems to be setting his sights on the various icons of the It world. After his deserved Oscar® win for The Social Network and its formidable dissection of the somewhat enigmatic Mark Zuckerberg, Sorkin may now be setting his sights on Steve Jobs, the recently deceased head of Apple.
In an interview with E! Online, Sorkin was enthusiastic if a little non-committal:-
“Sony has asked me to write the movie and it’s something I’m strongly considering. Right now I’m just in the thinking-about-it stages, it’s a really big movie and it’s going to be a great movie no matter who writes it.”

Charlie Sheen has been accused of many things over the past year, but no one's ever said he isn't a self-promotional dynamo.
After yesterday's announcement that Mike Tyson would be among the esteemed roasters to skewer our depraved anti-hero, Comedy Central has followed up the news by releasing two new Roast promos.
The videos feature Sheen riding a (crazy) train, nicknamed the Roast Express, to Goddess Harbor, Warlockia, Winnington, and Tiger Valley. They're stocked with visual representations of Sheen's catchphrases, and he tries to coin a few more. "Comedy Central's trying to roast Charlie Sheen? That's like trying to duct tape the wind to the ground."
Charlie actually looks like he's in good-health, embracing the whole thing, and dare we say ... TV ready? Heaven help us all.
Check out the videos after the jump.

Recommended reading for any Muppets fans out there: over at The Awl, author Elizabeth Stevens has written a lengthy examination of their uneven and unsatisfying life after the death of Muppets mastermind Jim Henson. Stevens argues that Henson should never have been replaced as the performer of Kermit the Frog; instead Kermit should have died or retired or been otherwise removed as leader of the group. She adds that slotting unqualified puppeteers into the role has diluted the Muppets' magic.
It's a complicated piece that you can't really summarize with a single pull-quote. But that's never stopped me before; here's a single pull-quote about what happened when Steve Whitmire replaced Henson as Kermit:
"Instead of an organic personnel shift, Whitmire became Kermit, which wasn't only a disservice to that character, but also a real disservice to Whitmire. There was no place for him to take the role. If he strays too far from Henson,...

Thomas J. Churchill So what exactly is it that makes a Thomas J. Churchill production or horror film different? What exactly is it that makes his brand of horror films & productions stand out? With efforts such as the upcoming Hallow Pointe, Mr. Hush and Emerging Past (both of which star Stephen Geoffreys), his films involve some kind of evil that is hiding beneath the surface of things and how it is brought out. Sometimes that evil is internal such as in werewolves in the star studded Hallow Pointe. Sometimes it is hiding behind the facade of any house, on any street in America such as in Mr. Hush. Or sometimes evil is hiding behind the facade of what appears to be a normal town in Emerging Past. With such an interesting trademark, it arouses a cuiousity into what else he can do in exploring this theme and what other evils...

Tonight Andrew McCarthy will appear on the season finale of USA's White Collar. "When I started acting, 100 years ago, in the early ‘80s, you only did the television show if your movie career was over. Now I’d say most of the best writing is on television. And movies are a different beast entirely. There’s the big blockbusters and then occasionally, there’s some little interesting movies that come along that somehow get made and 12 people are in them. I think it’s a real golden age for television for sure.

Becca moves to the town of Spork, to live with her father. Upon arriving she attracts the attention of Edward Sullen and his blood-sucking family and Jacob White, who seems to be looking more like a big hairy dog every day. It’s like the Twilight saga you see, but played for “laughs”.

If you grew up in the eighties, then Andrew McCarthy was probably key part of your weekend movie watching, with films like Pretty in Pink, Mannequin, St.Elmo’s Fire and Weekend at Bernie’s.
In recent years, he’s started directing (Gossip Girl) and writing travel columns but he’s never strayed far from acting. He’s now a recurring character on USA’s White Collar playing Victor Adler. This is one of the rare times he’s playing a bad guy and it’s great to watch!
I talked to Andrew on a conference call about his new character, what roles he regrets and how his directing has helped him in front of the camera.

Aim low, swing for the fences, and you might hit a home run. Alexandre Aja aimed lower than low, swung hard, and hit us in the nuts. His Piranha 3D cleverly marketed itself as a lowbrow, campy, late summer fun time, so Heaven help us if we tuned in late Friday night for that Z-grade SyFy Channel fun. Airport scanners, pat-downs and tens of thousands of new federal employees have made searches too intrusive but haven't made us any safer. Time to fix this broken system. By Robert W. Poole, Jr.
"If you touch my junk," John Tyner told a Tsa agent who was frisking him, "I'll have you arrested."

Welcome to the security theater of the United States.
In its rush to improve airport security following the tragic 9/11 attacks, Congress created a monster. President George W. Bush and Congress federalized airport security in 2001, forming a massive new government bureaucracy that has now reportedly grown to more than 67,000 employees.
These days, those thousands of Transportation Security Administration employees are conducting invasive searches, making 3-year-olds scream while they are patted down for weapons, frisking nuns, looking at naked images of your body, and forcing you to throw away perfectly good liquids.

Patrick Logan is closing in for the kill, but gets a little too close when he visits Danny at The Coffee Cup while Nick is there. Patrick barely manages to avoid making contact with Nick, but gets info from Danny about Nick's jogging habit at night. So, as predicted, later that night Patrick deliberately runs over Nick as he's jogging, putting Nick in the hospital. Angie (stupidly) wonders who would do such a horrid thing, but luckily Nick,...

Hope you're not lactose intolerant America, because you're about to get a heaping serving of cheese on tonight's American Idol. Tonight the Top 7 sings "inspirational songs," a cheesy theme if there ever was one. That desperation you smell? It's not just Ryan Seacrest gunning for Simon Cowell's job, it is American Idol trying desperately to regain its ratings by any means possible, including musical manipulation. Then again, in such a lackluster season, a theme that draws from songs with titles like "Heaven Help Us All," "I Will Survive" and "The Impossible Dream," seems strangely fitting.

The Inspirational Song choices are available on iTunes, so we thought we'd offer some suggestions for the "American Idol" Top 7.
We will admit that the song list is rather weird -- some of the songs don't exactly strike us as "inspirational," plus you have to automatically discount certain songs. For example...
The Idols should probably steer clear of the other Idol songs. Like "A Moment Like This" is the No. 1 Kelly Clarkson "Idol" moment, so we're not sure they should try that one. Doing other Idol hits is just a little too meta. We'd call that a big no-no.
