One of the films that seemed poised for an awards season run, but has seemingly been left behind, is David Lowery’s “The Old Man & the Gun.” Even with positive reviews, as well as, great performances from Robert Redford and Sissy Spacek, ‘Old Man’ just isn’t a major part of the Oscar conversation, and probably fell under the radar of film fans after it hit theaters.

The season 14 winner of “The Voice” Brynn Cartelli returned to perform her new single, “Last Night’s Mascara,” on Tuesday’s results show. Minutes later it was revealed that Chevel Shepherd took the season 15 title. Let’s hope that Brynn, who like Chevel was coached by Kelly Clarkson, has more success than the season 13 champ Chloe Kohanski.
Chloe had returned to “The Voice” to debut her new single “Come This Far” on last spring’s season 14 finale. While she had made it to No. 69 on the Billboard Hot 100 with her winner’s song “Wish I Didn’t Love You” the previous December, that second single didn’t even chart. That might be why we have yet to get an album from Chole, the sixth champion for coach Blake Shelton who has been with the show since the start.

Marvel Comics seems to like exploring the “Old Man” versions of certain characters. Old Man Logan was a great comic series and the Old Man Hawkeye series is going to conclude next month. Next up on docket is Old Man Quill and Marvel has released the first piece of cover art for the series featuring a much older version of the character.
We also have some additional details on the story that you can read below:
The comic is being written by Old Man Hawkeye writer Ethan Sacks and it sounds like it’s going to tell a compelling story that fans will love. While talking to Newsarama, Sacks talked about working on Old Man Quill and teases what’s in store for fans:
"We have gotten to see the saga of Logan and Hawkeye in the Wastelands, but there is literally a whole world - make that a whole galaxy - left to explore.

Robert Redford could well win an Oscar for his final role on film in “The Old Man and the Gun,” which recently charmed audiences at the London Film Festival. Writer/director David Lowery tells a merry little story that moves along at a neat pace with an entirely relaxed approach that extends to the performances. Here’s the official synopsis of the Fox Searchlight Pictures movie: Based on the true story of Forrest Tucker and his audacious escape from San Quentin at the age of 70 to an unprecedented string of heists that confounded authorities and enchanted the public.
In Redford’s swansong, his charm, charisma and likeability are used to full effect. This screen legend has only reaped one Oscar bid for acting: he lost in 1974 for his performance in the Best Picture champ “The Sting” to Jack Lemmon (“Save the Tiger”). He did win an Academy Award for directing the 1981 Best Picture “Ordinary People.

Initially, David Lowery’s adaptation of David Grann’s New Yorker article about 78-year-old bank robber Forrest Tucker (Robert Redford) were closer to the real-life story of the man who escaped prison 16 times. While Tucker tried to be the charming gentleman robber Redford would portray him as in Lowery’s “The Old Man and the Gun,” in reality his notorious “Over the Hill Gang” was made up of 20-30 hardened criminals involved with drug-running and murder. After getting a chance to spend time with and direct Redford in “Pete’s Dragon,” Lowery dramatically changed his approach.
“After I did ‘Pete’s Dragon,’ I realized there is no way to get away from Robert Redford in some shape or form being Robert Redford, whether he likes it or not,” said Lowery as a guest on IndieWire’s Toolkit Podcast. “He carries with him the accumulated history of everything he has done...

Legendary actor Robert Redford is reportedly retiring from acting after “The Old Man and the Gun,” which opened on September 28. He stars in the film as real-life bank-robber Forrest Tucker, a career criminal who spent his life robbing banks, getting arrested and escaping prison. Rinse and repeat. Is this film a fitting farewell for the man whose career breakthrough came almost 50 years ago in “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid” (1969)?
As of this writing “Old Man” has a MetaCritic score of 81 and an 89% freshness rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The Tomatometer critical consensus calls it “a well-told story brought to life by a beautifully matched cast” and a “pure, easygoing entertainment for film fans — and a fitting farewell to a legend.” It’s the “best film yet” by director David Lowery, who previously helmed “Ain’t Them Bodies Saints” (2013), “Pete’s Dragon” (2016) and “A Ghost Story” (2017).

Robert Redford's final performance in The Old Man & the Gun is a sweet bookend to a movie star iconography that began with the Sundance Kid.
Sometimes an actor is cast because their performance will be so immersive that they’ll vanish into the role, and other times they’re cast because there is no role, only a mark for a movie star persona to hit. But in rare instances, the movie star persona, or rather the legend around it, is the role. The performance is to embrace that mythology, if not necessarily deconstruct it. Robert Redford’s turn in The Old Man & the Gun is such a performance.
A deliberate echo of Redford’s early iconic work, Old Man acts as a bookend to Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, the George Roy Hill film that turned Redford into a movie star in 1969. In both pictures, Redford...

David Lowery’s The Old Man & the Gun is a tender swan song for Robert Redford, a nostalgic look back at the outlaw characters played by him in the 60s and 70s through the lens of the real-life Forrest Tucker, a career bank robber that hit hundreds of banks and broke out of dozens of prisons in his lifetime. We sat down with the generous, unassuming Lowery to discuss the joy and melancholy of writing the film and working with Redford, as well as his own personal favorite Redford films, and tricky emotional attachment to Tucker and his story.
The Film Stage: There’s an unspoken melancholy that hangs over The Old Man & the Gun, not dissimilar from your previous feature A Ghost Story, in that there’s a collective acknowledgement of the passage of time—especially inherent here in seeing an aged Robert Redford walk through a...

Robert Redford may have said he was retiring after his latest film, “The Old Man and the Gun,” but the legendary actor and director isn’t so sure right now.
“I don’t know if [‘Old Man and the Gun’] is the last one,” the 82-year-old star told Variety at the movie’s gala presentation on Monday at the Toronto International Film Festival.
But at the same time, he said, “I can’t last forever.”
In late August, at the world premiere of the movie at the Telluride Film Festival, Redford told the crowd, “The truth is that I really do feel that it’s time for me to move into retirement. I’ve been doing this since I was 21. I’ve put my soul and heart into it over the years. I thought, ‘That’s enough. Why don’t you quit while you’re a little bit ahead? Don’t wait for the bell to toll.

There’s a strange, unspoken melancholy that hangs over the otherwise loose and endearing The Old Man & the Gun, a collective acknowledgement of the passage of time inherent in seeing an aged Robert Redford passing through a convincingly rendered aesthetic we familiarize with the actor’s younger self. It’s a simple (if a touch cloying) conceit on the part of writer/director David Lowery—whose previous two outings include the wonderfully economical and sensitive Pete’s Dragon, also starring Redford, and the intimately ambitious A Ghost Story. However, it fits perfectly within Lowery’s sensibilities as one of the more broadly generous, unassuming filmmakers we currently have.

A "Watchmen" episodic , live-action 'superhero' TV series has officially been greenlit by HBO, based on characters from writer Alan Moore's 1986 DC Comics property, in a 'remix' of the original material, according to writer, showrunner Damon Lindelof:
"...set in an alternate history where 'superheroes' are treated as fascist vigilante outlaws, 'Watchmen' embraces the nostalgia of the original groundbreaking graphic novel while attempting to break new ground of its own."
Cast includes Regina King ("The Leftovers"), Don Johnson ("Miami Vice"), Jeremy Irons ("Dead Ringers"), Tim Blake Nelson, and Louis Gossett Jr.
"First and foremost, if you are angry that I'm working on 'Watchmen', I am sorry", said Lindelof, responding to "Watchmen" creator Moore, objecting to Lindelof 'remixing' his work.
"Alan Moore is an extraordinary talent of mythic proportion. I wrote him a letter, parts of which are not dissimilar to this one, because I owed him...

Ellie will be the protagonist of “The Last of Us Part II,” but she won’t be going it entirely alone, according to director Neil Druckmann. In an interview with Buzzfeed found via VideoGamer, Druckmann was asked about what makes Ellie such a memorable non-playable character (Npc). “Well, so, Ellie used to be an Npc, but she’s the protagonist in this story, so the player is controlling Ellie,” Druckmann clarified. “It’s safe to say with the game that we made in the past that there will be some Npc with you in this story, even though we’re not showing [the Npc] in this demo. And our general approach is to say, again, ‘How do we treat them like people? How do we get them to behave honestly as those people? Last year it was Clint Eastwood, this year it.s Michael Caine with a new entry in the fed up old people genre. In Harry Brown he plays a former military man and widower who decides to take the law into his own hands and dish out a little British justice on the people who murdered his best friend. Mark Ronson has the spirit of an 80-year-old man. The 34-year-old music producer rented a Cadillac car when he first passed his driving test, but admits his choice of vehicle could have been more daring. He said: "When I got my license I leased a Cadillac, because my inner driving spirit is that of an 80-year-old man. You always see old people in America driving them really slowly because they're so uncomfortable. It's like being in a hovercraft." Mark also revealed he is scared of performing live because he fears people will shout expletives at him if he messes up. He explained: "All I expect is for someone to yell out, 'You're a f**king wanker!' "You do have...

Aren’t direct sequels so overrated? Who wants to see what happens immediately after a hit movie anyway? Here’s a better idea: revisit a movie’s characters way, way down the line, when they’ve become old people. It’s kind of been done before. Look at “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull”! But what if it didn’t have to take decades to deliver such a sequel?
This might actually be the concept behind the somewhat planned follow-up to “Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy,” according to producer Judd Apatow. In an interview with Empire, he said that a sequel is now being discussed more seriously than it had been a year ago. We already knew that Will Ferrell met with creative minds from the first film earlier this year, but now it sounds like the next steps are being taken.

There's a Hangover 2 in the works, that much we know. And there's bound to be countless more dude-driven comedies, just like Old School inspired its own set of imitators. But none of that knowledge prepared me for the existence of Last Vegas a comedy about four guys who take a trip to Vegas when one of them is about to get married. Oh, but this time in they're in their 60s! So replace the roofie jokes with Viagra jokes, and we'll be all set. Dan Fogelman, who wrote both Bolt and Fred Claus, wrote the screenplay for this, and Peter Chelsom, who most recently directed Hannah Montana: The Movie, has signed on as well, according to Variety. Chelsom obliquely acknowledged similarities to The Hangover, but pretty much summed it up with his description of the film to Variety: "These are four guys from Coney Island, who, when we meet them,...

In early 1978, a child wandered into a now-razed mall cinema somewhere in the Midwest, ponied up $3.50 at the box office, and discovered that he had arrived early for his intended screening of Mel Brooks' consciousness-altering Hitchcock spoof, High Anxiety. Naturally, the child peeked at the tail end of the previous screening -- and felt a keen sense of spiritual expansion as a subtle crane shot aiming for the actors suddenly smashes, very awkwardly for all concerned, through a window! The child was me, and my perception of cinema was irrevocably altered. I loved every frame of the next screening, and -- catching up to the rest of the world who had caught on with Mel's astounding 1974 double-play of Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein -- I became aware of a genius. My angle on Oscar. (photo: Gregory Weinkauf) That genius --...

What rules the Korean box office this week? The latest teen horror? A big budget melodrama? High octane action? Would you believe an independently produced documentary about an octogenarian farmer and his ox?
80 years old, Choi has an old ox that has worked for 30 years, and an ox aged no less than 40. However, there’s something special about the way Old Choi treats this ox, which is so worn-out that it might drop dead any minute. The old man is single-mindedly focused on the ox, instinctively turning to the beast when he hears the cowbell even though he’s nearly deaf. One spring day, however, Old Choi learns that his ox only has a year to live, which greatly troubles him.
Titled Old Partner the film opened on just seven screens in mid-January and has seen its numbers grow steadily ever since. Now on one hundred sixty screens the film...
