Danielle Darrieux turns 97: Darrieux has probably enjoyed the longest film star career in history (photo: Danielle Darrieux in ‘La Ronde’) Screen legend Danielle Darrieux is turning 97 today, May 1, 2014. In all likelihood, the Bordeaux-born (1917) Darrieux has enjoyed the longest "movie star" career ever: eight decades, from Wilhelm Thiele’s Le Bal (1931) to Denys Granier-Deferre’s The Wedding Cake / Pièce montée (2010). (Mickey Rooney has had a longer film career — nearly nine decades — but mostly as a supporting player in minor roles.) Absurdly, despite a prestigious career consisting of more than 100 movie roles, Danielle Darrieux — delightful in Club de femmes, superb in The Earrings of Madame De…, alternately hilarious and heartbreaking in 8 Women — has never won an Honorary Oscar. But then again, very few women have. At least, the French Academy did award her an Honorary César back in 1985; additionally, in 2002 Darrieux and her fellow 8 Women / 8 femmes co-stars shared Best Actress honors...

Thor: The Dark World doesn’t do too much to separate itself from the generic action/super hero movie we’ve seen countless times before, but nevertheless it is an eye-catching and entertaining film.
If Iron Man 3 started off Marvel’s Phase 2 films by doing a superhero film a little bit different, Thor: The Dark World carries the torch by doing more of the same. Iron Man 3 was different from its predecessors because it chose a psychological subtext with which to frame its story around, which is something that really hadn’t been seen in a superhero movie before. Thor: The Dark World doesn’t attempt any experimentation. The premise is familiar (evil being of significant power hell-bent on galactic destruction), the heroes’ motivation is nothing new (fatherly approval and female in distress), and the filler material is standard fare (witty banter). Therefore, if you are looking for...

After stylish neo-noir film Drive and almost completed Thai-boxing thriller Only God Forgives, the long-developing Logan’s Run remake would have to mark third reunion between Ryan Gosling and Nicolas Winding Refn.
It looks like that bromance will be taking a break as Variety’s Justin Kroll has tweeted that Gosling has left the remake of a 1976 dystopian film.
Rough news for those Logan’S Run fans, I can confirm Ryan Gosling is no longer attached to the project.
Busy schedules are one reason why Gosling departed the sci-fi project as he’s planning a spring start date for his directorial debut, How to Catch a Monster and he’s also been eyed by his Crazy, Stupid, Love directors Glenn Ficarra and John Requa to reunite with his co-star Emma Stone in their next film.
The other might be that Warner Bros. want a more bankable, internationally friendly name as...

It wasn't always red carpets and adoring fans for some of today's biggest stars. Back before they were famous — when they were still clamoring for their big breaks — they gave some performances that were, to be fair, maybe not their best.
And now, thanks to Entertainment Weekly, you can enjoy the most painful roles of 25 Hollywood elite, conveniently cut together in a three-minute torture reel.
Highlights include Daniel Craig giving jousting tips to a hesitant teen in "A Kid in King Arthur's Court," Sandra Bullock getting hit with some kind of dart in "Hangmen," Nicole Kidman in "BMX Bandits" and Natalie Portman, uh, "Developing"… while she feels herself up ("Black Swan" this is not).
And then, rounding out the group is Jennifer Aniston in "Leprechaun." And something with Keanu Reeves.
Enough said.

[1] I've always had this fascination with seeing current rich and famous figures in their humble beginnings, and the success of tabloid columns and webpages devoted to that very topic suggest I'm not the only one. When some A-list faces are as familiar to us as those of our actual loved ones, seeing long-ago photos or videos of them is amusing in the same way that seeing pictures of your friends as little kids is amusing. "Before They Were Famous: 25 Actors in 3 Minutes" collects some especially amusing snippets of today's biggest stars, including Angelina Jolie, Ryan Gosling, Jack Nicholson, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, in some of their earliest acting gigs. Watch the video after the jump. They're not all first-time roles -- I'd argue that Seth Rogen in Donnie Darko hardly counts as even a pre-fame role, as he'd already starred in Freaks & Geeks by then -- but the clips collected here...

Wow! If you thought that the week between Christmas and New Year’s was going to be a slow one in the gossip world, you were sorely mistaken. People just broke the news that Natalie Portman and Benjamin Millepied are engaged And expecting their first child. Sounds like someone got a shotgun wedding for Christmas! The two were first introduced while on the set of Black Swan, where the ab-tastic Millepied served as the film’s choreographer. He and Portman apparently became very intimate during the filming, for Millepied dumped his ballerina girlfriend of three years, Isabella Boylston, and shacked up with the homewrecker Hollywood A-Lister. The couple has been going steady ever since, and now we have this news to lead us into Awards Season. Of course, the big question here is this: How will this news affect Portman’s chances at winning Oscar gold? After scoring key nominations...

Playing lovers in the upcoming drama romance movie "Remember Me," Robert Pattinson and Emilie de Ravin are reported embarking on a love relationship off screen. They, according to unnamed source, have been spotted getting cozy at the super exclusive Soho House in Manhattan, after a week of filming in Queens, NY.
"More than once, they left the others and retired to a private 'smoking room'," the source tells Radar Online. "There's real chemistry between the two - in front of the camera and off."
Rumored dating his co-stars isn't something new for Robert Pattinson. He's been believed dating his "Twilight" on-screen girlfriend Kristen Stewart. Some other female actresses who have been romantically linked to him include Natalie Portman, Camilla Belle, and Megan Fox.
As for Emilie de Ravin, she had her representative announcing earlier this month that she and actor husband Josh Janowicz are divorcing. The pair had been married...
