The long wait is over: Patricia Arquette finally explained David Lynch’s “Lost Highway.” Kind of.
“I would ask David: ‘Am I playing two characters, am I playing a ghost?’ He would say: ‘What do you think, Patrish?’ It’s a woman looked at through the distorted view of a psychotic misogynist,” she said at Series Mania.
“He hates women, he doesn’t quite trust her, even though she is his wife. He kills her but can’t remember it, then he recreates himself as this virile young man and meets her again. And now, she actually wants to fuck him and she is in love with him. But even in this version, she is a dirty whore.”
“In this man’s mind, a woman is always the monster. No matter what. I thought about Jezebel and Salomé for this part, all these bad girls of the Bible.”

Oscar-winning actress Patricia Arquette chaired a career masterclass this afternoon at Series Mania in Lille, France, where she served as this year’s guest of honor.
Topics up for discussion during the session ranged from Arquette’s childhood growing up on a “hippie” commune with her parents in rural Virginia alongside her career as an actress, working with filmmakers like Martin Scorsese, Richard Linklater, and David Lynch.
“He gives you a lot of freedom,” Arquette said of Lynch, whom she worked with on his 1997 surrealist feature Lost Highway.
Lynch’s Lost Highway, like many of his films of the 90s, is a project focused on gender, sexuality, and sensuality. In the pic — which also stars Bill Pullman — Arquette’s character is involved in a prolonged nude scene. Arquette said that at the time, she had been “really uncomfortable with nudity.” However, she pushed on with the scene to challenge herself as an artist,...

Madan, known for her versatile roles in Bollywood including Kuttey, shared her philosophy on selecting projects, emphasizing her desire to inhabit diverse characters, “The question that I always ask myself is why do I wanna act? It’s because I wanna live different lives. I get bored with just living Radhikka’s life. The more different the character, the more intrigued I am. It should scare me, and that’s the exact roles I pick up. If I see a part and I start having doubts whether I’ll be able to do it or not, I make sure that I do it just so that I can challenge myself. So I chase things that really scare me.

We have entered Valentine’s week, and the lovebirds are celebrating it enthusiastically. While it’s the season of spending time with your loved ones, Bollywood never loses a chance to make it more special for lovers and capitalize on it. Over the years, we have seen several films arriving during this special week, and even this year, Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya is arriving in theatres. So, before its arrival, let’s look at how Valentine’s releases have performed at the Indian box office over the years.
Shahid Kapoor and Kriti Sanon’s Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya is scheduled to be released in theatres tomorrow. Expectations are very low from it, and even the ground-level buzz is negligible. However, after the underperformance of Fighter, it’s said to be a crucial film, and there...

"The Amityville Horror" is one of the definitive haunted house films, a classic tale about paranormal activity terrorizing a suburban family with swarming flies, mysterious voices, and sudden illness. Even the windows resemble ominous eyes peering down on the unsuspecting victims. The movie taps into the religious undertones popularized by other 1970s releases such as "The Exorcist" and "The Omen," suggesting there is a Satanic force at work that must be destroyed.
Eventually, the new owners George and Kathy Lutz discover the horrifying history of their new home: Ronald DeFeo Jr. murdered his entire family with a rifle one year prior, a Satanic worshipper named John Ketchum once lived on the land, and the house itself was built on a Shinnecock burial ground.
Despite receiving mixed reviews for elements like the cheesy portrayal of a possessed George, "The Amityville Horror" ended up having a significant impact on the horror genre.

Emma Stone is an Oscar-winning actress who has enjoyed three Academy Awards nominations in her career. Let’s take a look back at 13 of her best films, ranked worst to best.
Stone began acting at an early age, making television appearances as a teenager in such shows as “Medium,” “Malcolm in the Middle,” and “Lucky Louie.” She transitioned to film with a prominent role in the high school sex romp “Superbad” (2007). Just three years later, she was competing at the Golden Globes as Best Comedy/Musical Actress for her lead role in “Easy A” (2010).
It took four more years for Stone to reap her first Oscar bid: Best Supporting Actress for “Birdman” (2014). She may have lost to Patricia Arquette (“Boyhood”), but the groundwork was set for her eventual victory in Best Actress for the musical “La La Land” (2016). Her 2023 film “Poor Things” will likely bring her back to the Oscars again.

When the Thessaloniki Intl. Film Festival kicks off its 64th edition on Nov. 2, the organizers will unveil a host of changes while renewing their commitment to serving audiences at one of Europe’s longest-running film events — all at a time of almost unprecedented uncertainty over the future of cinema and even the very purpose of festivals themselves.
With a sister documentary festival held each March and a year-round program of workshops, screenings, special events and other education and outreach initiatives, Thessaloniki has established itself as a hub to “exchange ideas, train, reflect and celebrate cinema with the public,” says festival general director Elise Jalladeau.
It’s also uniquely positioned to adapt to a rapidly changing industry.
“We operate in an ecosystem that has changed radically over the past five years and the pace is accelerating,” says Jalladeau, calling the challenges ahead “immense, but also very motivating.” Still, Thessaloniki remains committed...

The Screenwriters Guild of Israel (Sgi) has slammed the WGA for its silence over the conflict raging in the nation.

“Moonlighting” creator Glenn Gordon Caron shared excitement for the classic 1980s rom-com detective series finally being available on streaming, but also that star Bruce Willis, 68, has continued to see his condition worsen. Willis retired from acting after first being diagnosed with aphasia, which affects communication, in 2022, before receiving a more specific dementia diagnosis earlier this year.
“He’s not totally verbal,” Caron said in an interview with the New York Post. “He used to be a voracious reader — he didn’t want anyone to know that — and he’s not reading now. All those language skills are no longer available to him, and yet he’s still Bruce.”

The "Nightmare on Elm Street" film series was a hotbed for emerging talent. Many of the directors in the franchise would go on to prolific or interesting careers. Chuck Russell, director of "A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors" would go on to make Hollywood blockbusters like "The Mask," "Eraser," and "The Scorpion King." Renny Harlin, who directed "A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master" would likewise enter the Hollywood mainstream with films like "Predator 2," "Die Hard 2," "Cliffhanger," and "Cutthroat Island." Jack Sholder, Stephen Hopkins, and Rachael Talalay also emerged from the series' directors pool.
One can also find a few rising actors at the start of their careers throughout the Freddy Krueger movies. Famously, a young Johnny Depp starred in Wes Craven's 1984 original, and, for "Dream Warriors," Patricia Arquette made her cinematic debut.

When the Sarajevo Film Festival returned to full strength last year after successive, slimmed-down pandemic editions, a robust turn-out was to be expected. For nearly three decades, the audience-facing event has been the cultural lifeblood of the lively, cosmopolitan city it calls home.
The 2022 edition broke attendance records set in 2019, and just days after its online ticketing system launched this month, the fest appears on pace to surpass that mark again. It is a testament to the enduring love affair between a city and a festival that was founded in impossible circumstances in 1995, at the tail end of a brutal, four-year siege — proof that even in times of war and scarcity, cinema could endure.
The festival returns Aug. 11 – 18, with organizers insisting the event’s 29th edition will stay true to its roots. “We wanted to keep the festival focused on its main goals: presenting the best of cinema today to...

After his quotes about writing for Lost appeared in a Vanity Fair book excerpt Tuesday, veteran scribe Javier Grillo-Marxuach doubled down via social media by sharing more of his experience on the ABC drama.
Grillo-Marxuach, who is described in Maureen Ryan’s Hollywood book as “the only person from the show’s original nucleus of writers still in the writers room in season two,” posted his own essay that he hopes will deter “future abusers.”
“If Lost is so great a work of art as to continue to be a topic of discussion after all these years, then it is cruel to expect those of us who were there to remain silent as to how the show was made,” Grillo-Marxuach blogged. “Lost succeeded because of the sustained contribution of many, many artists, many of them geniuses in their own right, and many of whom were treated quite badly and then...

For a good number of writers in Hollywood, this WGA strike is not their first one. TheWrap spoke with four writer-producers who marched on the picket lines back in 2007 and who have created and written for some of the most popular shows of the past quarter-century, and they say that they’re more concerned for future writers than themselves.
“I was also involved in the 1988 strike, and my biggest memory from that was a rally in Century City, and there was an elderly man in a wheelchair who was a writer on ‘The Lucy Show,'” said Marta Kauffman, co-creator of “Friends” and “Grace and Frankie.”

Television is a relatively new indulgence for South by Southwest. What started as a music conference and market for the exchange of pop cultural ideas in 1986 quickly grew into a full-blown film festival by 1994. It wasn’t until 2014, however, that TV fully got its due with the addition of “Episodic” programming to the SXSW Film Festival.
Now, nearly 10 years after television first arrived to the Austin, Texas get-together, the People’s Medium is well and truly having its moment at SXSW 2023. No fewer than 20 TV shows will have their premieres at SXSW this time around, running the gamut from tentpole streaming sci-fi to little-known pilots in search of a forever home
With that in mind, here is everything that SXSW attendees and TV fans in general can look forward to from SXSW 2023’s Episodic output.

Despite acting credits ranging from “Severance” to “True Romance” to “Boyhood” and “Medium,” actor Patricia Arquette said she’s “a notoriously bad auditioner,” which led her to lose out on the 1996 comedy “Jerry Maguire.”
“Everyone was saying, ‘Oh, this is just a formality, you’re gonna read with Tom Cruise for ‘Jerry Maguire,’ but this is your part, you got it,’ and I blew it,” the actor told Variety‘s senior culture and events editor Marc Malkin at the SAG Awards red carpet on Sunday.
Renée Zellweger ended up booking the role of Dorothy Boyd in the film, to which Arquette added, “I actually think she was better for it, and she was great.”
The film depicts a sports agent getting fired for expressing his moral epiphany and subsequently using his new philosophy with his one remaining client as an independent agent. The film received several awards and was Oscar-nominated for best picture,...

Over the past seven years, Patricia Arquette has pulled off the impressive feat of scoring three Golden Globe wins in as many acting categories. After first being honored with the 2015 Best Film Supporting Actress prize for “Boyhood,” she received two television trophies for her work on the limited series “Escape at Dannemora” and “The Act”. Now, her dramatic performance on Apple TV+’s “Severance” could lead to her second supporting TV victory, which would make her only the fourth actress to ever achieve four Golden Globe wins in less than a decade.
Discounting non-competitive awards, the first woman to become a four-time acting Golden Globe champ in under 10 years was Helen Hunt. Her 1998 Best Film Actress win for “As Good As It Gets” was preceded by a trio of Best TV Comedy Actress triumphs for “Mad About You” (1994-1995; 1997). Her record of four victories across a four-year span was later matched by Sarah Jessica Parker,...
