From the campy version in the ’60s Batman to Christopher Nolan taking a more grounded approach with the character in the Tdk trilogy, Joker has undergone a lot of variations over the years. But among all the depictions of the character, which has two Oscar wins under its belt, Mark Hamill’s portrayal of the clown prince of crime is arguably the most iconic.
However, if it wasn’t for Michael Keaton, whose casting as Batman garnered backlash at the time, the Star Wars icon might not have stepped footing to the realm of DC to audition for Joker.

In the world of DC comics, Batman and his beloved foe Joker are a duo made in comic heaven. With so many iterations of these characters – both in animation and in live-action, fans around the world keep debating over which Batman is better than the other and which Joker is the best fit. But if there is one thing we can al agree on, is that no one can top Kevin Conroy when it comes to the Batman voice, and for years, he has been a the fan-favorite for generations of fans.

And when it comes to Conroy’s Batman, we automatically think of the maniacal Joker laugh by Mark Hamill. The one who was considered to be the wrong choice to play the Clown Prince of Crime when he was cast, proved everyone wrong, and gave us one of the very best iterations of the character.

In addition to his iconic role in the space saga Star Wars, Hollywood star Mark Hamill is renowned for his prolific voice-acting career. Over the decades, he’s voiced multiple characters across various shows and movies, most notably being the DC villain Joker in Batman: The Animated Series.
Hamill further delved into DC territory with his portrayal of Trickster in the live-action series The Flash. And his talent transcended beyond DC, as he also took on the roles of two underrated Marvel villains in the animated Spider-Man shows.

Viewers of True Detective: Night Country may find the forbidding darkness and snow-caked backdrop of the Arctic-set Max crime drama jarring, especially as Jodie Foster and Kali Reis in fur-hooded parkas breathe out cold wisps of air while investigating evil all around them.
But co-star Anna Lambe found the frigidly cold, dark filming set for the latest True Detective season more like home sweet home. “I was snug as a bug in a rug,” says the Inuk actor from Grise Fiord, Nunavut, Canada’s northernmost community, who tells The Hollywood Reporter she embraced the permanent darkness and freezing cold of a winter in Iceland, which doubled as remote Alaska during production.
Lambe plays Kayla Prior, the wife of young cop Peter Prior (Finn Bennett), who defends her family amid the primal beauty and ferocity of a snowbound Alaskan winter while Foster and Reis investigate a cold-case murder and the mysterious...

The fourth installment of HBO’s True Detective series is poised to be the spookiest yet. Set in the remote town of Ennis, Alaska, Night Country follows former partners Liz Danvers and Evangeline Navarro as they investigate the disappearance of eight researchers from a remote facility. The pair have a tense past, not only with each other, but with others in their small town.
True Detective: Night Country marks Jodie Foster’s first television appearance since the ’70s – not counting her handful of voiceover and narration guest roles in the ’90s and early ’00s – though certainly not her first time starring in a thriller. Foster is joined by a number of other talented actors, including Kali Reis, Fiona Shaw, and Christopher Eccleston.

True Detective actress Anna Lambe has nabbed the lead role in an untitled Arctic-set comedy for Netflix and the CBC and Aptn in Canada.
Lambe will play a young Inuk mother Siaja, with Keira Cooper, a 7 year-old actress from Iqaluit, Nunavut, in Canada’s north, playing her daughter Bun. Siaja wants to build a new future for herself, not easily done in her small Arctic town where everyone knows your business, according to a synopsis from the producers.
Lambe, who is from Iqaluit, Nunavut, made her film debut in The Grizzlies, and then co-starred in CBC indigenous drama Trickster. Lambe also guest-starred on other series like Alaska Daily and the fourth season of HBO’s True Detective, set to debut in winter 2024.

New Canadian podcast spotlights Indigenous actors turning the tide on representation in the industry
Meaningful representation of Indigenous Peoples on screen has exploded in the last few years but there’s still work to do. High profile stories about fraudulent claims to Indigenous identity can leave the harmful impression that there aren’t many accomplished or talented genuinely Indigenous artists. Of course that’s far from the truth. Actors and Ancestors is a brand new podcast that aims to create a space for Indigenous actors to tell their own stories on their own terms, push back against old stereotypes, and inspire positive change in the broader film and TV industry.
Actors and Ancestors launches on November 26th, 2023. Guided by the show’s creator and host, Rocky Cree actor, Joel D. Montgrand, every episode of Actors and Ancestors features a screen-based Indigenous actor with a story to tell. Montgrand aims to center joy and laughter while not shying away from difficult topics. It's been 13 years since horror master John Carpenter has blessed the world with a new directorial project, but the icon behind movies like "Halloween," "Escape From New York," and "The Thing" is finally returning to our screens this autumn — with a documentary-like TV horror series. "John Carpenter's Suburban Screams" will feature six nerve-shredding true stories retold by those who experienced them, and will couple the testimony with dramatic (and decidedly scary-looking) visual retellings of the story. The show is also set to include archival footage and news clips.
Carpenter is only set to direct one of the six episodes of "Suburban Screams," but he's involved in the project in other ways, lending his considerable talents as a composer to its soundtrack and executive producing the Peacock project. The show sounds like it will meet at the intersection of reality and horror movie sensibilities, which could be the perfect recipe for some great scares.

Fired By Finas
The Malaysian National Film Development Corporation (Finas), the government-backed agency that oversees the country’s film industry, has dismissed its CEO Nasir Ibrahim after less than two years in the job. It follows the return of Kamil Othman who was appointed chairman in February.
Finas notification
The latest move was announced on the organization’s Facebook page, along with the appointment of Rozita Waty Ridzuan as Finas interim CEO until a permanent replacement is found.
The notice was vague on the reasons for Ibrahim’s early termination, explaining that it was part of a wider recalibration of creative industry policies. “This initiative will hopefully further help Malaysian filmmakers and industry players to produce quality films that have high value in both local and international markets,” the statement said.

Last April, Sphere Media took the Canadian Screen Awards by storm with 22 awards for its scripted content, including a record 12 wins for the historical Black drama “The Porter” and seven for queer comedy “Sort Of.” It was a big night for Canada’s third-largest independent producer, and in particular for Jennifer Kawaja, Sphere’s president of scripted and feature films for English Canada.
Previously, Kawaja spent decades heading up Sienna Films with her business partner, Julia Sereny, helming several award-winning projects like “Cardinal,” “Trickster” and “One Dead Indian.” The duo sold the company to Kew Media Group in 2017 and in 2020, Montreal-based Datsit Sphere snatched it up when Kew was placed into receivership. Last year, Sphere restructured and rebranded under a single banner with the intention of streamlining content creation, production and distribution.

Prime Video got off to a fast start this summer with the release of The Boys season 3 on June 3. Now, as we enter the dog days, Prime Video is set to keep the warm weather good times rolling with a new twist on an old classic. That’s right, Amazon’s list of new releases for August 2022 is highlighted by some good old-fashioned baseball.
A League of Their Own, the TV adaptation of Penny Marshall’s 1992 movie, is set to premiere on Aug. 12. Like the movie before it, the series will dramatize the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League which saw women playing America’s pastime while the major leagues were on pause for World War II. Abbi Jacobson (Broad City) co-created the show and will star as catcher Carson Shaw.

Prime Video will continue rolling out its summer slate in the month of August, releasing new original series, as well as a mix of suspenseful films, action movies and more.
Amazon’s series version of “A League of Their Own” will debut its eight-episode first season on Aug. 12, introducing new characters and stories set in the historical opening of the All American Girls Professional Baseball League (Aagpbl).
Ron Howard’s “Thirteen Lives” tells the real-life story of how a young boys’ soccer team was rescued from the Thai mountain cave where they got stuck for 10 days along with their coach.
Other new film arrivals include hits from earlier this summer, “The Lost City” starring Sandra Bullock, Daniel Radcliffe, Channing Tatum and Brad Pitt, as well as “Sonic the Hedgehog 2.” Academy Award-nominated film “Licorice Pizza” also arrives on Prime Video this month.
Freevee will also have new arrivals this month.

Warning: Spoilers ahead for the season four premiere of “Charmed”
A new Charmed one has arrived. The season four premiere of The CW’s “Charmed” introduced Lucy Barrett’s Kaela, a young witch with manifestation powers. Those powers will be key in helping take down the newest big bad, according to series stars Sarah Jeffery and Melonie Diaz.
What exactly are manifestation powers? Essentially, it’s the power of seeing and creating. In the season premiere, we see that Kaela has a penchant for art, and has been drawing people and places she sees in her dreams (including Mel and Maggie). In some cases, her drawings even manifest themselves in the real world.
Though Kaela’s magic proved to be a problem for Josefina, who ate an apple that fell out of Kaela’s drawing and then became a drawing herself — simultaneously creating a negative space monster — Jeffery and Diaz...

The CW is the fifth — and final — broadcast network to firm up its fall 2021 schedule, and there are some big changes.
Riverdale is leaving Wednesdays behind after five seasons leading off the night.
The buzzy teen drama is moving to Tuesdays at 9/8c, out of The Flash.
It’s a big move, but clearly, one to bolster the ratings of the young-skewing drama.
It has been on a slippery slope in the ratings, much like many of the other CW series, so the move is hardly a big surprise.
The CW is also touting both The Flash and Riverdale kicking off with “five-episode events.”
The Flash‘s five-episode event will feature crossovers with Arrowverse characters.
“We’re talking about other superheroes from the CWverse that will come together in each [of the] individual episodes,” CW CEO Mark Pedowitz said of the news.

All eyes will be on the Canadian TV industry over the next month as major players such as public broadcaster CBC, Bell Media, Rogers and Corus unveil their 2021-22 upfront plans. But this year, in the wake of heavy hitters like “Schitt’s Creek” and “Kim’s Convenience” coming to an end, the pressure for networks to find the next global-facing series is palpable.
Upfront season follows one of the most tumultuous years for Canadian television in recent memory. In September, the final season of “Schitt’s Creek” made history at the Emmys by sweeping all major comedy categories, solidifying its place as one of the most successful CBC shows of all time.
Three months later, the public broadcaster was on its knees as allegations that filmmaker Michelle Latimer, the producer and director of one of its most exciting new offerings, “Trickster,” was not of Indigenous descent, as she had claimed. The series,...

Uplifting refugee drama “Peace by Chocolate,” which marks the last film starring late great Syrian actor and director Hatem Ali, is set to world premiere at the upcoming Tribeca Film Festival.
UTA Independent Film Group will be handling world sales on the English-language pic, which is directed by Canadian first-timer Jonathan Keijser and will bow as part of the fest’s online Tribeca at Home presentations announced today.
“Peace by Chocolate” is based on the true story of Tareq Hadhad who fled from war-torn Syria with his family and founded a now booming chocolate business in Canada called Peace by Chocolate.
The protag’s father is played by Hatem Ali, who passed away prematurely last December at 58. Ali was known across the Arab world as both an actor and the influential director of political TV dramas such as “The Long Night,” about three dissidents released from a Syrian prison after 20 years of incarceration.

What the heck is a Pyromancer in Outriders? You may have heard of a game developed by People Can Fly called “Outriders.” Outriders is a brand new looter-shooter that is inspired by several different games in the looter-shooter genre including Destiny, Borderlands, and even other games such as Gears of War and Diablo. Within Outriders, there are several different classes that you can choose to play including Devastator, Technomancer, Trickster, and my current main, Pyromancer. Pyromancer is all about raining hellfire down upon your enemies with its wide assortment of blazing abilities. So let’s take a little deep dive into

Outriders is designed to ensure you can beat the game with any class (or combination of classes), but it shouldn’t come as a surprise that there are just some classes that are better equipped to get the job done (assuming you can actually push through the project’s server issues and play the game).
Actually, the most interesting thing about Outriders‘ classes isn’t the many ways that one has an advantage over the other but the surprising ways that different compositions offer different gameplay experiences. This really is the kind of game where your class choice should be based on your preferences first and their power level second.
If you’re looking for the best of the best, though, or just a little more information on how the game’s various classes perform, then here’s an overview of how Outriders‘ various classes measure up in solo and multiplayer.

NBC topped the broadcast ratings Monday in primetime with two series premieres and its drama kingpin This Is Us. The network’s night started with the Dwayne Johnson family comedy Young Rock, which debuted strong with a 0.9 in the adults 18-49 demographic and 5.03 million viewers tuning in to smell what The Rock was cooking. Saturday Night Live staple Kenan Thompson followed with the debut of his new comedy Kenan.
The duo marked NBC’s best two comedy premieres in the demo since 2017 in Nielsen’s Live+Same Day fast affiliate numbers. The comedies also took the No. 1 and No. 2 spots when it came to scripted series debuts for the 2020-2021 season, with Young Rock the best comedy launch on all of broadcast in the 18-49 demo since January 2019.

NBC tried out a comedy block in place of Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist on Tuesday, and it led to some very positive results.
The series debut of Young Rock had 5 million viewers and a 0.9 rating, while Kenan had 4.1 million viewers and a 0.8 rating.
Together, they doubled what Zoey has been doing in the slot, and helped the network win the night.
NBC recently announced that Zoey would be moving back to Sundays in the coming months, so these two comedies are here to stay ... for now.
This Is Us perked up to 5.6 million viewers and a 1.1 rating in the demo, getting a small bump from the stronger lead-in.
Nurses, however, remained a bust with 2.2 million viewers and a 0.3 rating. The jury is still out on whether NBC will take another chance on this Canadian import next season.
Over on ABC, To Tell the Truth (3.9 million/0.5 rating), black-ish (2.6 million/0.5 rating), mixed-ish (2.1 million...

Though it wasn’t the top program of Tuesday evening according to Nielsen Live+Same Day fast affiliate numbers (that triumph goes to an original of NBC’s “This Is Us”), The CW’s broadcasts of “Two Sentence Horror Stories” and “Trickster” both scored substantial boosts of 66.67% in the key demo, soaring above the previous week’s episodes.

NBC’s flagship drama This Is Us returned with a new episode Tuesday after being sidelined three weeks because of Covid-related production delays and was welcomed as primetime’s top-rated show, drawing a 1.0 rating and 4.99 million viewers. This Is Us returned after another hiatus in winning fashion.
The beloved NBC family drama led the night with a 1.0 rating in the demo -- steady with where it left off last month.
However, the show did log a new audience low, but given the sporadic scheduling, it's possible that people didn't know it was back.
Before Tiu, Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist had 2.1 million viewers and a 0.4 rating -- on par with its season average.
Nurses closed off the night for NBC with 1.9 million viewers and a 0.3 rating.
Over on Fox, The Resident Season 4 Episode 5 had 3.3 million viewers and a 0.5 rating, marking new series lows for the medical drama.
Out of that, Prodigal Son (1.9 million/0.4 rating) matched its season low in the demo but fell to a new low in total viewers.
Over on CBS, NCIS (9.5 million/0.9 rating) and FBI: Most Wanted (5.5 million/0.6 rating) each inched down, but FBI (7.6 million/0.8 rating) was steady.

It was a slow night, but the one constant was ABC's Big Sky.
Big Sky Season 1 Episode 7 managed 3.6 million total viewers and a 0.6 rating -- on par with last week's midseason debut, and right on par with its season average.
For a 10 Pm series, Big Sky is holding up very well, and should get a second season renewal at these levels.
Elsewhere on ABC, To Tell the Truth (4.2 million/0.5 rating), Black-ish (2.6 million/0.5 rating) and Mixed-ish (2.2 million/0.4 rating) all came down from last week's opener, meaning that Big Sky was the network's only steady series on the night.
Over on Fox, The Resident came down to a series low in the demo.
The medical drama had a 0.5 rating and 4 million viewers, while Prodigal Son was steady at series lows with 2.4 million and a 0.4 rating.

"Trickster", the Canadian produced 'coming-of-age' Indigenous supernatural TV series, adapted from Eden Robinson's 2017 novel "Son of a Trickster" has been canceled by public broadcaster CBC after one season, following allegations against co-creator, episode director Michelle Latimer, who resigned from the show after falsely claiming to be "Indigenous':

The Trickster TV series originates on the CBC network in Canada and the show has already been renewed for a second season there. The show presumably costs The CW less to license than it would cost to produce an original series. Will season two of Trickster air in the United States? Stay tuned. *Status Update Below.

The Trickster TV show will have a shorter than expected lifespan. The drama series, which originates on CBC in Canada, is currently airing its first season on The CW. Trickster had already been renewed for a second season in Canada but now, those plans have been cancelled.

The Canadian broadcaster CBC has pulled the plug on a planned second season of its series “Trickster” after co-creator Michelle Latimer was exposed for falsely claiming Indigenous identity last month.
The series, which is also aired in the U.S. on The CW, is an adaptation of the novel “Son of a Trickster” by the Indigenous author Eden Robinson. Led by Joel Oulette, the series was hailed upon its October 2020 release for featuring Indigenous cast and crew.
“We have had many conversations over the last few weeks with a view to continuing production on a second season of Trickster. Those conversations included producers, writers, actors, and the author of the books on which Trickster is based,” the network said in a statement. “Fully respecting everyone’s perspective, season two will not move forward as planned unfortunately.”

Trickster is coming to an end earlier than planned.
Canadian broadcaster CBC has officially canceled the series due to the revelation that co-creator and director Michelle Latimer is not indigenous, despite claiming to be.
The series centres on Jared, an Indigenous Haisla teenager and small-time drug dealer in Kitimat, British Columbia, who becomes increasingly aware of the magical events that seem to follow him.
It recently kicked off airing its six-episode first season on The CW, and is planned to finish out its run on February 16 on the network.

CBC has reversed its Season 2 renewal decision for indigenous supernatural drama series Trickster after co-creator/director Michelle Latimer became embroiled in a controversy over her claimed indigenous ancestry.
In the U.S., the CW acquired the series, which debuted on the network on Jan. 12. Three episodes into its six-episode run, the drama has delivered decent numbers for a lower-cost acquisition. The network will air the rest of the Season 1 episodes; I hear it is unlikely to take over the project as a CW original following its cancelation by CBC.
Based on Eden Robinson’s novel Son of a Trickster, the show stars newcomer Joel Oulette as an Indigenous Haisla teenager and small-time drug dealer in Kitimat, British Columbia, who becomes increasingly aware of the magical events that seem to follow him.

Canadian television has suffered another blow in the wake of the Michelle Latimer scandal. Following the revelation that the “Trickster” director and producer is not of Aboriginal descent, as she previously claimed, public broadcaster CBC has decided not to move forward with a second season of the series.

Canadian broadcaster CBC has pulled the plug on a planned second season of Trickster in the wake of last month’s revelation that co-creator and director Michelle Latimer is not Indigenous, as she has claimed for the past two decades.
The drama, Season 1 of which is currently airing stateside on The CW (the finale airs Feb. 16), centers on an indigenous teen (Joel Oulette) who begins to see strange, otherworldly things — talking ravens, doppelgängers and skin monsters, to name a few! — as he struggles to keep his family above water.
