One of the most anticipated and hottest films of 2024 is finally here. We are talking about Zendaya‘s Challengers which was memed to death for a threesome scene that was shown in the trailer but if you have seen the film then you know that the brilliance of the film is much more than that one scene. Directed by Call Me By Your Name‘s Luca Guadagnino from a screenplay by Justin Kuritzkes, the sports romantic drama follows the story of a talented tennis player Tashi, and her twisted relationship with two tennis players, one of whom is her husband now. Challengers stars Zendaya, Mike Faist, and Josh O’Connor in the lead role with Jordan Thompson, Faith Fay, Hailey Gates, and Tierre Diaz starring in supporting roles. So, if you loved the story of ambition and toxic relationships in Challengers you should check out these films with similar themes next.

This April sees Zendaya cross a milestone it honestly feels like she should have reached ages ago: a legitimate leading role in a theatrical film. The actor has been one of the biggest stars of Generation Z and a much hyped starlet for years now, and yet a quick glance at her Wikipedia page reveals a shockingly short resume.
The Oakland born star’s adult film career, after a childhood in the Disney Channel machine leading sitcoms like “Shake It Up” and “Kc Undercover,” really only started in 2017, with a brief supporting turn in Marvel’s “Spider-Man: Homecoming.” Opposite her eventual real-life boyfriend Tom Holland, she only had a scant 10 minutes or so of screentime as the sarcastic teen Mj — hardly a star is born moment, despite what the advertising for the film would have you expect.
Zendaya would reprise her role in future Spider-Man films, and her screentime increased with each installment.

Superstar Zendaya has been acting professionally since 2010, beginning with the role of Rocky Blue on the Disney teen sitcom "Shake It Up." Her first film gig was playing the voice of Lollipop, a talking pony in "Super Buddies." Zendaya continued to star in teen sitcoms and high school dramas for over a decade, appearing in "Frenemies," several "Spider-Man" movies, the remake of "Zapped," and the acclaimed HBO drama series "Euphoria." It's worth noting that Zendaya was already 23 when she was cast in "Euphoria," forcing the actor to remain in high school for years after her real-life high school graduation in 2015 (figuratively speaking).
The number of times the 27-year-old actor has played an adult is scant. Her first "adult" role came in the 2021 film "Malcolm & Marie," on which she served as executive producer. That same year, Zendaya also played the voice of Lola Bunny in "Space Jam: A New Legacy,...

Zendaya has, in just a small handful of years, asserted herself as a true A-list star in Hollywood. So much focus is paid to actors in their 40s (or much older) such as Tom Cruise, one of the many famous people named Chris, or Anne Hathaway. But Zendaya has emerged as one of our new movie stars, thanks to her work in wildly successful franchises such as "Dune" and "Spider-Man." But can her star power help turn "Challengers," an original sports drama centered around tennis, into a hit? That's the big question MGM is asking right now as the movie gets ready to make its way to theaters next weekend.
Hailing from "Call Me By Your Name" director Luca Guadagnino, "Challengers" is eyeing an opening between $7 and $12 million, per Box Office Pro. The only other big release on April 26 is Lionsgate's Christian drama "Unsung Hero." Yes, faith-based movies have...

The character of Tom Ripley first appeared in Patricia Highsmith's 1955 novel "The Talented Mr. Ripley," a salacious story about a con man who is hired to locate an old school chum named Dickie Greenleaf but who ends up becoming obsessed with him, killing him, and supplanting him. Ripley is not a charming con man, but he is staggeringly clever and possesses a talent for subterfuge. He's also driven by his baser desires, unable to resist pursuing the women and men he lusts after (Ripley is likely bisexual) or stealing the money he so desperately wants. Each time, Ripley gets away with it, as evidenced by the fact that he starred in five novels published through to 1991.
A critic once pointed out that Tom Ripley's character arc is a direct inversion of traditional storytelling. A typical crime novel protagonist will learn new things as the story progresses and then use...

Zendaya is opening up about the stress that came with being a child actor and feeling anxious about always delivering out of fear that, if she doesn’t, people will lose interest in her.
The two-time Emmy winner sat down with Vogue for its May 2024 cover story, ahead of the release of her upcoming film, Challengers, which sees her portray a former tennis prodigy-turned-coach of a champion (Mike Faist) who’s on a losing streak. The Dune star is one of the few celebrities ever to cover Vogue and British Vogue in the same month.
“I have complicated feelings about kids and fame and being in the public eye, or being a child actor. We’ve seen a lot of cases of it being detrimental,” she told the publication when reflecting on her acting career, which began when she was 13 with the Disney Channel series Shake It Up. “And I think only now,...

During its two-season run on HBO, “Euphoria” has launched its young cast into superstardom and won multiple Emmys, while also being a magnet for controversy — but whatever lies ahead for the Sam Levinson-created show is going to have to wait.
Earlier this week, HBO officially delayed the drama, which was set to begin production later this spring. “HBO and Sam Levinson remain committed to making an exceptional third season,” an HBO spokesperson told Variety. “In the interim, we are allowing our in-demand cast to pursue other opportunities.”
What the network isn’t saying is that no one at HBO is at all sure a third season of “Euphoria” will ever come to fruition given the disparate visions for the show’s next chapter. But “Euphoria” has been invaluable to the network — attracting the often-elusive millennial and Gen Z viewers, as well as massive ratings — and executives from Casey Bloys...

Eva Longoria understands that for Latinos, attaining success is only half the battle — amplifying that success is key to ensuring more Latinos get the same opportunities.

Fresh off winning the Audience Award at this year’s Toronto Film Festival, “American Fiction” lays out its cynically comic premise in its first trailer. Cord Jefferson’s directorial debut features Jeffrey Wright as a struggling novelist who watches as his competition profits from Black entertainment that plays into cultural stereotypes and offensive tropes to the huzzahs of white cultural gatekeepers. In a moment of “If you can’t beat them, join them,” he uses a pen name to write a conventionally stereotypical memoir only to watch the book become a cultural focal point and a best-seller.

Netflix spent big at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival, picking up Anna Kendrick’s directorial debut “Woman of the Hour” for $11 million and Richard Linklater’s well-reviewed “Hit Man” for $20 million. But other than that and despite an unusually numerous 50 titles for sale, the TIFF market at large was muted.
The lack of activity was in sync with the festival season for 2023 so far, as Sundance and Cannes went off with a smattering of deals compared to years past.

Zendaya fans who were eagerly anticipating her new movie ‘Challengers’ will have to wait a bit longer, as the film has been delayed from its original September 15, 2023 release date to April 26, 2024. HBO’s The Weeknd-Sam Levinson production “The Idol” will premiere out of competition at the iconic Cannes Film Festival, sources close to production have confirmed to IndieWire, before a broadcast premiere sometime this fall.
The show, which stars co-creator Abel Tesfaye (aka The Weeknd) and Lily-Rose Depp, will screen at the 76th edition of the prestigious festival, which runs from May 16 to May 27. Either the first two or three episodes in the six-part season are expected to screen at the fest, according to sources. Programmers are debating on the number of episodes to present, since the third ends on a major cliffhanger. Representatives for HBO told IndieWire that “The Idol’s” visit to Cannes remains unconfirmed.
Earlier this month, Variety reported that Tesfaye hoped to bring the show to Cannes, but it had not been screened for the festival’s programmers.

Twas the budget that killed Nancy Meyers’ latest romantic-comedy, one top talent representative told TheWrap.
Word dropped Tuesday afternoon that Netflix isn’t moving forward on “Paris Paramount,” a romantic comedy that was expected to star Scarlett Johansson, Owen Wilson, Michael Fassbender and Penelope Cruz about a filmmaking duo who reunite on set after falling in and out of love with one another. Meyers, who hasn’t directed a feature since Anne Hathaway and Robert De Niro’s “The Intern,” wanted a budget of $150 million, while Netflix drew the line at $130 million, an insider told TheWrap.
“That sounds like too high of a budget for [Netflix],” a well-respected film director told TheWrap on what they would consider to be a medium-budget movie.
“Nancy Meyers always has budget issues,” the top talent rep said.
With no residuals or back-end bonuses on the table to offset costs, $80 million of that budget would’ve gone to above-the-line expenses.

John David Washington has revealed the best piece of acting advice he has received from his father Denzel Washington.
The Tenet star and former professional American football player is the son of Oscar-winner Denzel and musician Pauletta Washington.
Washington, 38, has starred in films including Spike Lee’s 2018 film BlacKkKlansman, for which he received a Golden Globe nomination, and Christopher Nolan’s 2020 action-thriller Tenet.
He also appeared in HBO’s comedy series Ballers, and acted opposite Zendaya in Sam Levinson’s Netflix film Malcolm & Marie (2021).
Washington appeared on Monday night’s episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert (6 December) to speak about his lead role opposite Samuel L Jackson and Danielle Brooks in the current Broadway production of August Wilson’s The Piano Lesson.
Asked whether his parents gave him any advice before he made his Broadway debut, the actor said that his mum still had notes for him...

Zendaya is eying her next project: directing an episode of “Euphoria.”
The Emmy winner told Vogue Italia that she was actually supposed to helm Season 2, Episode 6, titled “A Thousand Little Trees of Blood,” for the hit HBO series. However, she didn’t have enough time to prepare as she was also acting in the episode.
“It’s funny. I was actually supposed to direct episode 6, but then I had to act in it,” Zendaya explained. “I didn’t have enough time, so unfortunately, I wasn’t able to this time around. I wanted to have enough time to do it the right way. So, next season probably.”
She certainly has had plenty of inspiration working with “Euphoria” creator Sam Levinson on pandemic feature film “Malcolm & Marie,” as well as collaborating with Denis Villeneuve for “Dune” and its sequel “Dune: Part Two.” The actress is teaming up with Luca Guadagnino...

The Season 2 premiere of “Euphoria” opens with a 10-minute prologue that is, even by the fearless standard set in that show’s first season, astonishingly provocative. In telling the origin story of drug dealer Fezco, writer-director Sam Levinson breathlessly races through a sex-, violence-, and cocaine-fueled set piece with camera moves as propulsive as any conjured by Scorsese at his most frenetic. What binds the incendiary content and dynamic visuals is the music, an in-your-face parade of 10 anthemic songs that range from Billy Swan covering Elvis to Poison’s hair metal hit “I Want Action,” with some Harry Nilsson and Bo Diddley thrown in for good measure.
And that’s just the prologue — then the opening title comes up to the tune of 2Pac’s “Hit ‘Em Up” and we’re in an entirely new musical register that leads into two dozen more equally varied and original song choices over the course of an hour.

When Kendrick Lamar drops an album, it's always a big deal. His mere presence energizes hip-hop with a fervor few possess. Dubbed the authoritative conscience of rap, Lamar's genius, by critics' assessments, lies in his virtuosic storytelling. He holds a mirror to the culture he narrates. With his latest release, "Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers," K.Dot isn't afraid to reflect the culture's beauty and its darkness.
Listeners didn't know what to expect from Lamar's followup to 2017's "Damn" - a vivid album filled with sophisticated candor about vices and avoiding damnation. But his cryptic letter to fans in August 2021 did suggest that his final Top Dawg Entertainment project would be another deeply personal offering. "Love, loss, and grief have disturbed my comfort zone, but the glimmers of God speak through my music and family," Lamar wrote on his Oklama website. "While the world around me evolves, I reflect on what matters the most.

It's Zendaya's world, and we're all just living in it - she sings, she dances, she acts! With her recent roles in "Spider-Man: No Way Home," "Dune," and "Malcolm & Marie" - and, of course, her leading part on the HBO series "Euphoria" - Zendaya is *the* moment. In 2020, her incredible performance in "Euphoria" earned her her first-ever Emmy win for outstanding lead actress in a drama series, making her the youngest lead actress and the second-ever Black actress in Emmys history to receive the award.
