The Last Panthers builds from a slow start into an ambitious, strongly acted drama where the political meets the personal...
Until relatively recently, it was commonly accepted that British TV audiences just didn’t ‘do’ subtitles. Films and programmes in languages other than English were generally relegated to specialist channels with specialist audiences; your BBC4s, Sky Arts and such like. Prior to that, they’d appear at somewhat late hours on BBC2 and Channel 4 (themselves once regarded rather ‘specialist’). There they would be enjoyed by the sort of viewer who would seek them out anyway; never quite becoming the sort of show that thousands of people stumble across and turn into conversation fodder at office watercoolers the next day.
The success of The Killing changed all that. Ten hours of bleak Scandinavian noir, presented entirely in Danish and lapped up by British audiences who eagerly...

To date. there have been two incarnations of pyromaniac Batman baddie Firefly in the DC Comics (Garfield Lynns and Ted Carson), and now Fox’s Gotham will introduce a third, live-action take on the character for their upcoming second season – but with a twist!
Relative newcomer Michelle Veintimilla (Lifetime’s Those Who Kill) will play a female version of the twisted firestarter named Bridgit Pike in the fifth and sixth episodes. Here’s the official description via TV Line.
Enslaved by her brothers, a notorious gang of arsonists, Bridgit Pike is forced into the family business. We hope you’ve been enjoying your stay at Bates Motel – two more seasons of the Psycho prequel have been ordered…
Good news, Bates Motel fans – the show has just been extended for two more seasons. This move will bring us to five seasons, with a few news sites already jumping to the conclusion that season 5 will be the show’s last.
Indeed, perhaps the intention of this double season order is for the writing team to map out a two-year endgame. That’s not been confirmed by any official sources, though. Many expect that the show will start linking up with the events of Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho at some point soon, but only time will tell on that one.
Anyone who follows American network TV news won’t find this information as a huge surprise. Although the ratings for Bates Motel have gradually decreased, the show has fared...

One of the smartest things Marvel has done with its movie output is to let each film exist as its own entity. There are callbacks to previous films, and hints about future ones, but you don't have to have seen "Thor" to appreciate "Iron Man 3" (or vice versa), and the movies represent many different genres, sometimes even within an individual series, like how "Captain America: The First Avenger" is a retro war movie, while "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" is a paranoid spy thriller. The mistake made early on with the studio's first TV show, "Marvel's Agents of Shield," was in not letting it stand on its own. In its early days, "Agents of Shield" was an aimless, charmless show without compelling characters or any reason to exist save for extending the Marvel brand into primetime. Now, it's a fun, confident action series that understands how to exist as...

Fox’s fall lineup, Gotham aside, has delivered a whole slew of disappointments, with heavily promoted reality series Utopia landing softly and new series like Gracepoint, Mulaney and Red Band Society proving dead on arrival. However, maybe midseason hip-hop drama Empire will turn things around for the network.
Featuring a star-studded cast led by Terrence Howard, Taraji P. Henson, Gabourey Sidibe and Courtney Love, the show is looking increasingly like a potential hit. Like ABC’s Nashville, which is currently in its third season, Empire aims to blend the soapy, scandalous drama of Dynasty (which show creator Lee Daniels, of The Butler and Precious fame, has cited as an inspiration) with toe-tapping music. And judging by the first trailer, which you can check out below, the series has been wholly successful in that endeavor.

The young Forms family thought they moved away from the horror of their past, but they unknowingly packed it with them. A prequel spin-off to The Conjuring, Annabelle hits theaters later this week, and two new B-roll videos show the filming of the Forms’ desperate meeting with Father Perez, the crafting of a classic stormy night atmosphere, setting up a baby carriage / garbage truck collision, and more.

The fall television season may have just officially begun, with Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. among the first series out the gate, but our eyes and attention are set on another Marvel show heading our way: Agent Carter. Much like Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Agent Carter will tell the human side of the fantastical and super-powered Marvel Cinematic Universe, but is set in the past, with Hayley Atwell front and center. I don’t know about you, but I’ll take that over Agent Coulson and his band of Hydra-weary agents any day.
Atwell reprises her role of the titular Agent Peggy Carter, who’s appeared in Captain America: The First Avenger, her own eponymous Marvel One-Shot short film, this year’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and Tuesday’s season premiere of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. A&E has announced that it canceled “Longmire” after its third season. Considering it’s their second-highest rated show (“Duck Dynasty” is the top), fans and the folks that work for the show are all scratching their heads.
Officially, A & E’s position has been that the show was canceled because it wasn’t hitting their target demographic. The 18-49 year olds supposedly aren’t watching the show. Now, admittedly, I’m probably never going to come too close to whatever the “average” 18-49 year old is, but I would like ot point out that, as a dedicated viewer of “Longmire” I fit squarely into that all important age range they say they’re targeting.
However, A & E is going to spout some nonsense about advertisers and who they want to pitch their stuff to. That might be true, for a certain set of advertisers. However, if you’ve got...

In what might be considered a strange move on the part of TV network A&E, the crime drama Longmire has been cancelled at the end of its third season. It’s strangeness is rooted in the fact that this decision leaves the channel with very little in the way of scripted drama – something it had made a very conscious step toward, some time ago. Having now disposed of Glades and Those Who Kill, however, the ending of Longmire will leave A&E with only Bates Motel and the upcoming remake of The Returned.
Longmire had been a very popular part of A&E’s lineup, being based on Craig Johnson’s Walt Longmire Mysteries series of novels. The show saw Wyoming county sheriff Walt Longmire return to work following the death of his wife, and investigate major crimes while running for re-election. It starred Robert Taylor, Katee Sackhoff, Lou Diamond Phillips,...

How do you rank perfection? Duncan has a go, as he lists the top 25 Jason Statham films...
For regular Den Of Geek readers, it will come as little surprise to see this list come round. We've chosen our favourite Statham films before, but such is the productivity of the great man, it was decided that a mere top ten was no longer large enough to contain his ever growing body of work. Last time I mentioned updating this piece to the man himself back in 2012 due to his insane workload, he cracked up and responded, “My productivity is overwhelming! 'Have a fucking day off!'”
Since this list has now expanded to encompass 25 of his movies, it seemed only right to include multiple sequels, with his big trio of action franchises all spawning some thoroughly entertaining fare worthy of mention, though I’ve tried to exclude the personal bias that...

After a dearth of enjoyable frightfests this summer, October should reward horror aficionados for their patience with a slew of promising titles. V/H/S Viral, Ouija, Housebound, Stonehearst Asylum, The ABCs of Death 2 and Horns will all be competing for moviegoers’ screams, but one title in particular seems to have the best shot at breaking out at the box office - Annabelle, a spinoff from horror hit The Conjuring that finds new characters menaced by the titular doll.
The first image from the film (above) doesn’t shed much light on what we can expect from Annabelle, which may or may not affect the events of The Conjuring 2, scheduled for October 23rd next year. Check out the synopsis below for some insight into the horrific happenings filmgoers can look forward to being petrified by.
