The Lincoln Lawyer star Manuel Garcia-Rulfo has been cast in a fresh take on the Jurassic World films. Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard, who led the $3.96 billion trilogy, will not be returning for the new film, directed by Gareth Edwards. While other prominent stars like Scarlett Johansson and Jonathan Bailey are also part of the film, it is highly unlikely that the film will make money like Pratt’s films.
Manuel Garcia-Rulfo will replace Chris Pratt in the next film in the Jurassic Park series after Jurassic World: Dominion
When it comes to the box office numbers of films, it almost appears that the Guardians of the Galaxy star is a money magnet. He has been part of a number of billion-dollar-grossing projects in recent times, including last year’s film The Super Mario Bros. Movie.

We’re just two weeks away from the 77th Cannes Film Festival, and this morning the august French institution revealed who will determine the winners of this year’s awards. A cross-section of international talent will join “Barbie” and “Lady Bird” director Greta Gerwig, who will lead the panel, in an effort to undoubtedly compare apples to oranges and try to make sense of a diverse slate of films from directors like David Cronenberg, Francis Ford Coppola, Sean Baker, Ali Abbasi, and many others.
Lily Gladstone, who won several Best Actress awards last year (but not the Oscar!) for her revolutionary turn in “Killers of the Flower Moon,” is the other American joining Gerwig. The actress, currently seen on FX/Hulu’s “Under the Bridge,” is returning to Cannes one year after Martin Scorsese and Apple Original Films brought “Flower Moon” to the French Riviera festival for its out-of-competition debut.

Bryce Dallas Howard is an established actress in Hollywood, but she made her debut when she was well into her 20s. It was quite late by industry standards, especially since she was the daughter of the renowned director, Ron Howard. The Jurassic World actress had a chance to step into the world of acting when she was only a child but did not.
As it turns out, her two-time Academy Award-winning father simply prevented her and her siblings from venturing into the world at such a young age. Her father has always been watching out for her, even if his decision raised more than a few eyebrows at the time.

‘The American Society of Magical Negroes’ Star Justice Smith on His Bold New Film, D&d and PokemonGo
Upon his 2013 graduation from the Orange County School of the Arts, Justice Smith assumed he would spend some time “waiting tables and doing small roles in indie films here and there.” Instead, he found himself working the blockbuster space fairly quickly, booking roles in “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom” and its sequel “Jurassic World Dominion.” He stood out opposite a fuzzy creature voiced by Ryan Reynolds in “Pokémon: Detective Pikachu” and as a half-elf sorcerer in “Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves.”
Though it was a crash course in big-budget filmmaking, the 28-year-old actor notes that he wouldn’t have had it any other way. “I’m blessed because those experiences were also highly technical environments that challenged me,” he says. “It strengthened my ability and gave me a more well-rounded arsenal of tools. She also holds the record for being the second highest-grossing box office star of all time. The move could signal a shift in strategy by Apple to finally incorporate more library titles into its catalog.
Is Apple TV+ finally getting non-original titles in its streaming library? Yes, at least temporarily, at any rate, as the streamer has added a total of 51 movies to its streaming catalog, spanning every genre and including some true blockbusters. Apple stresses that these titles will only be available for a limited time, but it could be providing a glimpse into its own future with the additions. Having long focused on high-quality originals without the studio archives or licensing library of its competitors, Apple V+ has been a somewhat different type of streamer since it launched in November 2019.

After this trailer, you'll likely never look at childhood nostalgia the same way ever again. A24 has all but cornered the market these days on distributing original horror movies that feel of a piece with one another, leading an entire generation of moviegoers to think of the studio in the same terms as Marvel movies -- as a brand in and of itself, remarkably enough. Marketing prowess aside, however, many filmmakers have managed to take full advantage of this creative partnership and get eyeballs on fascinating movies that otherwise might've slid underneath most audiences' radars. Next up is one of the year's most daring and creative productions yet: "I Saw the TV Glow."
Written and directed by Jane Schoenbrun, this marks the non-binary filmmaker's newest effort after 2021's "We're All Going to the World's Fair," a feature debut that immediately put their name on the map for good. "I Saw the TV Glow...

Universal Pictures recently revealed a new Jurassic World movie slated for 2025, helmed by acclaimed Godzilla and Rogue One director Gareth Edwards. While no casting has been confirmed, the project already shows intriguing promise.

The director impressed Jurassic Park creators Steven Spielberg and Frank Marshall in meetings last week. Soon after, the studios extended an offer Edwards is expected to formally accept once negotiations conclude.

After failing to seal a deal with David Leitch, Universal, and Amblin Entertainment moved swiftly to lock in Edwards. The director impressed Jurassic Park creators Steven Spielberg and Frank Marshall in meetings last week. Soon after, the studios extended an offer Edwards is expected to formally accept once negotiations conclude.

Welcome back, friends, to the latest episode of "As the Jurassic World Turns." When last we left our intrepid franchise (the one formerly known as "Jurassic Park"), it had just completed a trilogy of films with the "Jurassic World" rebrand moniker. Those films — 2015's "Jurassic World," 2018's "Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom," and 2022's "Jurassic World Dominion," were made under the auspices of director/co-writer Colin Trevorrow (with J.A. Bayona taking over the directing duties for "Fallen Kingdom") and followed Trevorrow's outline, seeing John Hammond's dream of resurrecting dinosaurs for theme park purposes come to fruition and then go wildly out of control, resulting in the entire planet becoming overrun with once-extinct species.
Given the unfortunately tepid reception that "Dominion" received, Universal and Steven Spielberg's Amblin Partners decided to fast-track a follow-up. It's still not altogether clear what this new installment will be following up; it retains the "Jurassic World" title for now,...

From Jedi to dinosaurs. Rogue One director Gareth Edwards has been tapped to helm the new Jurassic World movie after a deal couldn’t be reached with David Leitch.
The new Jurassic World movie will relaunch the franchise with a fresh take, which means that neither Chris Pratt nor Bryce Dallas Howard are expected to return. The original trilogy group consisting of Jeff Goldblum, Sam Neill, and Laura Dern isn’t likely to be back either. However, there will be a blast from the past behind the scenes as original Jurassic Park screenwriter David Koepp has signed on to pen the script. The new Jurassic World movie has already been slated for a July 2, 2025 release, which means that Gareth Edwards will likely be getting right to work before the ink has even dried.

The annual Oscar nominations lunch is always about the same thing: measuring the applause when the Academy rep calls each nominee down to the riser for the class photo. This year, 179 nominees and four international director nominees made the trek to the Beverly Hilton.
It’s always the celebrities who merit the biggest cheers. Snubbed actress Margot Robbie, on hand as the producer of “Barbie,” and snubbed director Greta Gerwig, on hand as the film’s co-writer, got enthusiastic applause. One theory has a sympathy vote driving a win for Gerwig and co-writer Noah Baumbach for Adapted Screenplay over frontrunner “Oppenheimer,” which after all, has 13 chances to win over the eight for “Barbie.”
Actress frontrunner Emma Stone (“Poor Things”) got a big round, along with her old “La La Land” costar Ryan Gosling (resplendent in a “Barbie”-friendly pink suit), who was delighted to meet Messi, the blue-eyed dog from “Anatomy of a Fall.

Update: Universal is returning to the drawing board regarding its forthcoming Jurrasic World film, as David Leitch is no longer in talks to direct. While reports say Leitch’s exit was cordial, the word is that Leitch and the studio had different ideas about the direction of the blockbuster project. The heat is on now that Leitch is no longer attached, and Universal is sticking to its July 2, 2025 release date.
The search for a new director will happen fast, with Universal sticking to their guns about the movie’s bold, new direction. Who will become the next frontrunner to direct the Jurassic World revamp is a mystery. Still, we’d love to hear your suggestions.

Universal has already set a July 2, 2025 release date for the next installment in the Jurassic Park / Jurassic World franchise, but the project has come across its first road block.
It was announced earlier this week that David Leitch (Bullet Train, Deadpool 2, Atomic Blonde) was in talks to direct the new installment, but those plans have already changed.
Deadline reports, “Universal is back on the search for a director to helm its next Jurassic World movie as Deadline is hearing David Leitch is no longer in talks to direct the film.”
The website’s report continues, “Insiders say the parting was amicable but that ultimately the studio and Leitch had different visions for the film.”
David Koepp is currently on board to write the next installment of the Jurassic World franchise, which will take us into “a new Jurassic era,” likely with all new characters.

[Editor’s note: The following article contains spoilers for “Argylle.”]
During the final act of Matthew Vaughn’s spy comedy “Argylle,” most audience members will likely find themselves hyper-focused on just what star Bryce Dallas Howard has slapped on to her feet. That’s probably old hat for Howard, who previously weathered a controversy centered on the footwear her “Jurassic World” character, the prickly and prissy Claire Dearing, sported during some seriously scary dino-centric action (remember those heels?). This time around, however, Howard is outfitted in the kind of apparel that should only make audiences stand up and cheer, rather than sit down and moan in sympathy, “Ah, my aching feet!”
In one of the film’s final action sequences, Howard’s Elly — previously a mild-mannered author who spends her time at home writing wildly popular spy novels — taps into the very kind of action she’s used to only writing (there’s a twist on that we won...

Universal’s dinosaurs are far from extinct.
A new movie in the “Jurassic World” franchise is currently in development at the studio, with David Koepp — who adapted the 1993 original “Jurassic World” and its 1997 sequel “The Lost World: Jurassic Park” from Michael Crichton’s bestselling novels — set to write the screenplay. The project will have an all-new storyline that is intended to launch a new era for the franchise, though it’s uncertain whether any of previous stars, including Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Sam Neill, Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum, would return.

While researching and preparing to make his 2012 survival film The Impossible, filmmaker Juan Antonio Bayona came across the book La sociedad de la nieve by journalist Pablo Vierci. Though the story of the 1972 Andes accident was a familiar one, Bayona had never seen the account contextualised in the same way. Uruguayan native Vierci’s book, written 36 years after the tragic events, benefitted from distance, looking beyond the facts to provide a psychological approach to the circumstances and how they shaped the survivors’ lives. After completing The Impossible, Bayona bought the rights to Vierci’s book and began a decade-long journey to bring the story to the screen.

We’re happy to report that after five days, all of our New Years Resolutions are still intact. Except for the one about doing 20 minutes of yoga in the morning. Impossible. And the one about not eating the entire bag of potato chips in one sitting. Yeah, nah. Oh! We also didn’t stop doomscrolling, smoking or clipping our toenails at the gym. But other than that? Perfectly on track. And while there are still two long months of awards season left to endure enjoy, the New Year has brought a bountiful crop of Don’t-Miss Indies.

The lore of Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571, which fell out of the sky and crashed into the South American Andes in 1972, typically summons grisly images of cannibalism and gangrene. The 72 days that a Uruguayan rugby team en route to Chile endured, snow-drifted and hungry, have been dramatized elsewhere, including the 1993 survival drama “Alive,” starring a mostly white and Anglicized cast. Now, after a moment under the tentpole sun with the ill-conceived “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom,” Spanish filmmaker J.A. Bayona returns to the style of more personal and human disasters with “Society of the Snow.” Shot in Spanish with Uruguayan accents, this muscular and often brutal depiction is chiseled with authenticity, but it’s too psychologically schematic to make much in the way of an emotional impact.

We made it to 2024! Or, rather, we've almost made it at the time of writing. It's been a long year wherein a historical dual strike that was prompted (and then unnecessarily prolonged) by studio greed brought the film and TV industry to a grinding halt for months. But all that's behind us now, and it's time for a fresh start. Even Netflix is turning over a new leaf by making viewership data available for just about every title on the platform. Well, sort of. It's still Netflix, so, of course, its newfound transparency comes with an asterisk or two.

Composer Michael Giacchino didn’t intend on scoring J. A. Bayona’s “Society of the Snow”, the true-life survival thriller about the 1972 plane crash with the Uruguayan rugby team. But the two were longtime friends (Giacchino scored “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom”), and Bayona routinely screened rough cuts of his films for him.
Yet the composer’s reaction to “Society of the Snow” (which is Spain’s international Oscar entry) was so intense that it immediately sparked conversation about percussion and guitar. The next morning, Giacchino began writing music. Bayona was so taken that he asked the Oscar winner (“Up”), who is prepping to direct a horror remake of “Them!,” to score the whole film.
Thus began the composer’s most spiritual musical journey, one that forced him to reevaluate his worldview. “‘Society of the Snow‘ challenged me in ways that I never understood I could be challenged,” Giacchino told IndieWire.

Deadline reports that Amazon is developing Halcyon, a sci-fi thriller based on Christopher Long’s graphic novel Hiding In Time. Halcyon comes from Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow, who will executive produce through his Metronome Film Company alongside Andrew Mittman’s 1.21 banner.
Halcyon is a “paranoid sci-fi thriller in which the Witness Protection Program relocates families to various eras in time. The series unravels a conspiracy that emerges when this seemingly infallible system is breached.” Sounds interesting. In addition to producing Halcyon, Colin Trevorrow will also direct the pilot of the series. Davey Holmes (Shameless) will serve as showrunner of the project, and will executive produce alongside Trevorrow, Mittman, and Lloyd Braun.

After helming Jurassic World, Colin Trevorrow stepped back for J.A. Bayona to take the reins of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, but he returned for Jurassic World: Dominion.

We’re back in Jagged Edge Productions territory with Snake Hotel, which stars Scott Jeffrey regular Danielle Scott as one of a group of women given a chance to get out of prison early if… if… they agree to take part in a game of cat and mouse with a giant mutated snake. A snake!
Hey, at least we’re not retreading nursery rhyme or fairytale terror in this one!
As bizarre premises go, Snake Hotel isn’t actually that weird – after all, back in 2021, Jagged Edge Productions produced Dinosaur Hotel which had pretty much the exact same premise, only with (obviously) dinosaurs instead of snakes! Well, not quite the same premise. Dinosaur Hotel...

Having spent the last few years in fantastical worlds (including directing :a[Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom]{href='https://www.empireonline.com/movies/reviews/jurassic-world-fallen-kingdom-review/' } and being one of the driving forces of :a[The Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power]{href='https://www.empireonline.com/tv/reviews/the-lord-of-the-rings-the-rings-of-power/' }), Ja Bayona is back in reality — and channelling a true story too boot — with Spain's Oscar entry Society Of The Snow. Picked up by Netflix for distribution, it has a new trailer online and you can see it below:
With Bayona working alongside Bernat Vilaplana, Jaime Marques and Nicolás Casariego to adapt Pablo Vierci's eponymous book, Society Of The Snow follows what happened when in 1972, Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571, which had been chartered to fly a rugby team to Chile, crashed in the heart of the Andes.

The survivors were forced to resort to extreme measures in order to stay alive. That is the same real-life event that director Frank Marshall brought to the screen with the 1993 film Alive,...
