Netflix has confirmed that 38 new original series, movies and specials will be debuting on the streaming service in February. Leading off the lineup is the first season of the fantasy horror series “Locke & Key,” which is inspired by the comic series crafted by Stephen King’s son, Joe Hill. Among other shows launching their first seasons in the shortest month of the year are “Gentefied” and “Unstoppable.”
Also on tap is the sophomore editions of the sci-fi series “Altered Carbon” and the crime drama “Narcos: Mexico.” And look for the long-awaited sequel “To All the Boys: P.S. I Still Love You,” which continues the story from the teen romantic comedy that was one of the most streamed films of 2018.

With each month that passes, Netflix subscribers brace for a new wave of content – movies, TV shows, binge-worthy Netflix Originals… that kind of thing.
But in order to make way for that fresh deluge of entertainment, the streaming service sheds a number of titles, and February 2020 is no different. So as subscribers prepare themselves for Altered Carbon season 2 and Pokémon: Mewtwo Strikes Back—Evolution, they must also bid farewell to the likes of District 9, Gangs of New York and The Matrix Trilogy. Though surely the first Matrix film is the only one worthy of a goodbye. The sequels? Not so much.
Horror fans will be forced to bid adieu to The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, too, while much of the Jeopardy! series will be leaving the Netflix service on February 27th. It’s part and parcel of the company’s ‘revolving door’ approach to content; as new material is added...

Tyler, the Creator recently chatted with Zane Lowe for his Apple Music’s Beats 1 program, which focused primarily on his fifth studio album, Igor, but he also broached a wide range of topics during the nearly hour-long interview.
“Very Eighties pop,” he explains of one of the influences on Igor. “The Eighties is becoming my favorite time — not just music, but overall, and I used to hate it. But now it’s slowly becoming my favorite ’cause of the sector of music that I’ve found over the years.”

Walt Disney Studios has debuted the first official look at the woman playing Anita in Steven Spielberg’s “West Side Story,” played by newcomer Ariana DeBose. Funny and strong-willed, Anita is a scene-stealing supporting character who sings the classic song “America.” The role was originally played onscreen by Rita Moreno in Robert Wise and Jerome Robbins’ 1961 “West Side Story” movie. Moreno, who won the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her work as Anita, is serving as one of the film’s executive producers. The project, based on the iconic Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim musical of the same name, casts “Baby Driver” star Ansel Elgort and newcomer Rachel Zegler as star-crossed lovers Tony and Maria, respectively.
The rest of the supporting cast includes Ana Isabelle as Rosalia, Corey Stoll as Lieutenant Schrank, Brian d’Arcy James as Officer Krupke, Curtiss Cook as Abe, and Rita Moreno as Valentina. Wise and Robbins’ film won 10 Academy Awards,...

CNN premiered the first episode in Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman’s six-part summer series “The Movies” Sunday night, 84 minutes devoted to the 1980s. Subsequent installments cover the 90s and post-2000 and then turn back to the 70s, 60s, and the bulk of core film history — 1930-1950 — crammed into the finale. Silent film, it seems, was not worth a mention.
First of all, this series is not targeted at erudite cinephiles who know their film history. Any self-respecting TCM watcher is too sophisticated for this breezy look at “The Movies.” Clearly the producers are trying to draw younger audiences who might be vaguely familiar with some of the movies here, from Steven Spielberg’s “E.T.” to Martin Scorsese’s “Raging Bull.” (Both directors are on hand to comment.) Snobby old Hollywood lovers sometimes forget that for today’s 18-year-old film fan devouring classic films made before they were born,...

In 2001, it seemed like Mariah Carey’s career was over. Though originally intended to be a victory lap for one of the best-selling musicians of all time, the musical rom-com Glitter turned into a public mess. Bizarre promotional appearances and a brief hospitalization (both of which she has since linked back to a bipolar disorder diagnosis from that same year) pushed the soundtrack from its original date of August 21st to September 11th — one of the darkest days in American history. At that point, it was her lowest-selling album, and,...

Rod Stewart knew exactly what he didn’t want to do when he began penning songs for his new album Blood Red Roses, which landed in stores on September 28th. “I didn’t want to write songs like ‘Stay With Me,’ ‘Hot Legs,’ and ‘Tonight’s the Night,'” he says. “I wanted to attempt to do something a little bit more age-appropriate, and hopefully I’ve succeeded.”
The album is part of a creative renaissance for the 73-year-old that began with his 2013 LP Time and continued in 2015 with Another Country.
