Zickel is playing Pa Archer, a gaunt but imposing figurehead that has a commanding energy balanced by an instinctive compassion. In the throes of a brutal Montana winter, Pa’s steadfastness and sense of purpose—along with the skills he learned as a soldier in the Civil War—are the foundation on which his family’s survival rests. American animation studio Titmouse has a long and meaningful relationship with France’s Annecy Animation Festival. This year, the company has two productions screening in competition with several other projects being teased in various panels across the week. The studio was also invited to produce the festival’s introduction video, played before festival screenings, making Titmouse the first American company in the festival’s 60-year history to do so.
“We were supposed to do it for 2020 but it was postponed,” Titmouse COO Antonio Canobbio told Variety of the historic partnership. “Mickael and Marcel always drop by when they are in LA and we usually grab tacos out of the taco truck next to the bar, The Three Clubs.
“They prefaced the evening by saying that they had an important question. It’s always kind of nerve-racking when someone tells you that they have something important they’d like to discuss.

"Elliot, we've been idiots. We've been going about it all wrong." No, that's not deleted dialogue from E.T. The Extra Terrestrial -- that Elliott spells his name differently -- but instead fresh new dialogue, featured in our exclusive, Nsfw (not safe for work) clip from the animated film Nerdland. John (voiced by Paul Rudd) and Elliot (voiced by Patton Oswalt) want to become famous but, as John says, they haven't been paying sufficient attention to realize exactly how people become famous -- or infamous -- nowadays. That spurs them on to a series of misadventures. Andrew Kevin Walker (Seven, Tim Burton's Sleepy Hollow) wrote the original script and Chris Prynoski (Metalocalypse, Son of Zorn) directed. Enjoy the clip below. Nerdland is now available to watch...

Get ready to re-enter the “Moon-iverse.” Filmmaker Duncan Jones’ long-teased and much anticipated feature “Mute” is finally, finally about to hit the screen after years of starts and stops, promises and just plain old wishin’ and hopin’. Back in June, Jones told us, “I’ve always wanted to make ‘Mute,’ and I’ve been on ‘Mute”’ for about 14 years. I’m determined, no matter what happens, I’m going to get that movie made, at some point.”
Netflix is producing the sci-fi thriller, offering Jones — who is coming off the disappointment of another long-gestating project, the video game adaptation “Warcraft” — the chance to get back in the filmmaking saddle with what sounds like his dream project. Netflix has now unveiled a first look at the film, including a look at the sci-fi universe it inhabits, along with its three principal stars.

In the six months since his wife passed away, comedian and actor Patton Oswalt has taken on a new role: public mourner. Oswalt has been candid about his experiences, most recently during his appearance on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.” “The more you talk openly about what it is and put more light onto it,” he told Colbert, “people can see all the angles and say, “Oh, okay, that is horrible, but there’s life on other side of it and it’s somehow manageable.”

As the writer of Se7en and 8mm, one might not expect Andrew Kevin Walker to write an animated comedy featuring some of today’s top talent in the field, but here we are. Directed by Chris Prynoski, Nerdland follows two slackers who are attempting to make it big in Hollywood in unusal ways. Featuring the huge voice cast of Paul Rudd, Patton Oswalt, Hannibal Buress, Reid Scott, Mike Judge, Riki Lindhome, Kate Micucci, Laraine Newman, Brendon Small, John Ennis, and Paul Scheer, the first trailer has now arrived.
We said in our review, “Providing an escape valve for Andrew Kevin Walker, known for far more serious films about would-be serial killers (8Mm, Seven), Nerdland is an almost biting commentary on Hollywood that would appear to be more at home on the small screen (had it not been crudely drawn for Cinemascope).” Judging from the trailer, if one is a fan of Bojack Horseman,...

Another trailer has been released for Paul Rudd and Patton Oswalt's upcoming animated film Nerdland. This movie looks pretty damn funny and if you're into forms of entertainment that contain absurd insanity, look no further. Nerdland looks like a completely wacked out good time.

Beyond Fest must have their check in the mail, because ol' Jack Burton himself is coming to the festival for a 30th anniversary screening of Big Trouble in Little China. Filmmaker James Gunn will be on hand to discuss the cult John Carpenter movie with the beloved actor, and that's only one of many events fans will want to mark on their fall calendars.
Taking place September 30th–October 11th at the Egyptian Theatre in Los Angeles, Beyond Fest 2016 will also feature screenings of Phantasm: Ravager, Phantasm: Remastered, George A. Romero's Dawn of the Dead in 3-D, Martin, In a Valley of Violence, The Wolf Man (1941), The Bad Batch, Raw, and City of the Living Dead.
A 4K restoration screening of Romero's The Crazies will also take place, as well as a live performance by composer Fabio Frizzi and his orchestra during a showing of The Beyond: Composer's Cut.

Since her brilliant transition from Disney star to rebellious teen in Harmony Korine’s “Spring Breakers,” Selena Gomez continues to surprise. Too bad the same can’t be said for her new movie, “The Fundamentals of Caring,” a saccharine buddy dramedy from writer-director Rob Burnett (best known as the executive producer of “The Late Show with David Letterman”).
“The Fundamentals of Caring” stars Paul Rudd as Ben, a grieving father and failed writer who takes a job as a caretaker for an amusingly surly teenage boy. Not that Trevor, played by a doe-eyed Craig Roberts (“Submarine”), doesn’t have a reason to be surly; he suffers from muscular dystrophy, a disorder that severely impairs his physical abilities but leaves his mind sharp. Ben and Trevor strike up an all-too-likely friendship, each being the only one to tell the other the hard truths.

Providing an escape valve for Andrew Kevin Walker, known for far more serious films about would-be serial killers (8Mm, Seven), Nerdland is an almost biting commentary on Hollywood that would appear to be more at home on the small screen (had it not been crudely drawn for Cinemascope).
The animation chronicles the adventures of two deranged dudes, John (voiced by Paul Rudd), a freelance writer for Concessioner Monthly, a trade magazine for movie exhibitors, and Elliot (Patton Oswalt), a budding screenwriter who finds time between videos games and nothing else to write a D-grade flick with gratuitous T & A. If the picture sounds bleak already, don’t worry it gets worse, even if it does come with a warning: the song that plays in the title sequence tells us to “get our hopes up.”
A parody of low-level Hollywood and the quest for instant stardom forces John and Elliot to...

The rabid response to Sausage Party.s trailer and first screening at South By Southwest proves that there is a desire for raunchy, adult-themed animated feature films. Nerdland.s own trailer suggested that it might rival Sausage Party in this field. Especially since it features the undeniably talented pairing of Paul Rudd and Patton Oswalt in its leading roles. Unfortunately it doesn.t deliver the consistent, hearty laughs that you.d expect. Instead, it plays out like a lame and crude joke that you can.t wait to come to an end. Which is especially disappointing considering the esteemed talent that brought the film to life both on and off screen. As the writer of Se7en and Sleepy Hollow, Andrew Kevin Walker has proven that he has a unique but beguiling path into the morbid and bleak, while director Chris Prynoski.s past as the creator of Motorcity and ...

Now in its 15th year, the 2016 Tribeca Film Festival has offered thousands of filmmakers their chance to showcase the hard work they’ve placed on their passions. Whether it’s any first time writer or director, to the iconic, multi-award winning actor and producer, Tribeca has given these people a venue for their work, and it has blessed the film community in terms of releasing their film, as well as having audiences to watch it.
Kicking off our Tribeca coverage is Nerdland, a film written by Andrew Kevin Walker and starring Paul Rudd, Patton Oswalt, and Reid Scott. Directed by Chris Prynoski, whose previous works include other animated series such as Turbo Fast or Moonbeam City, the film stars Rudd and Oswalt as John and Elliot, two up and coming late-twenties year-olds who realize their passions of yesteryear are dead and they’ve done nothing with their lives. Premiering a month to the day after the SXSW bow of Sausage Party, a dirty-joke-stuffed animated feature with Sony and hitmakers Seth Rogen & Evan Goldberg behind it, Chris Prynoski's Nerdland might be in danger of drowning in its wake if the two were anything alike. But while both are 'toons with a high raunch quotient, the former movie aims (very successfully) for a broad appeal while this one seems pleased to lurk in the margins, playing to those for whom Adult Swim ranks far higher than The Simpsons. Amusing but far from a laugh riot, the pic

A wealth of comedic talent went into making Nerdland, the animated feature film from the creative team of director/producer Chris Prynoski and writer Andrew Kevin Walker.
Prynoski’s animation studio Titmouse, Inc. is the production company behind Adult Swim’s The Venture Brothers and Metalocalypse, so it’s no surprise he managed to collect comedians as talented and disparate as Patton Oswalt, Paul Rudd, Molly Shannon, Ron Lynch, Mike Judge and Hannibal Buress to lend their voices to his first animated feature. So, it’s a shame – a painful, crying shame – then that such talent should be squandered on such a hapless piece of bad-humored social commentary.
Nerdland tells the painfully recognizable story of John (Rudd) and Elliot (Oswalt), two deluded slackers in Los Angeles whose dreams of stardom are continually cut short by their lack of discernible talent. They pretend to be dating Sally (Kate Micucci) and Linda...

If you’re into funny, ridiculous, vulgar animated features about trying to make it in Hollywood, then Nerdland is the movie for you! The project stars the voices of Paul Rudd and Patton Oswald as the two main characters.
The Hollywood-set story centers on an aspiring screenwriter (Oswalt) and an aspiring actor (Rudd) who make a last-ditch effort to achieve fame before they hit their 30th birthdays.
As you’ll see, their adventure to fame and stardom is packed full of absurd insanity. The film was directed by Chris Prynoski from a script written by Andrew Kevin Walker, and it also stars Hannibal Buress, Mike Judge, and Molly Shannon.
The trailer that was released for the movie is Nsfw and is only for mature audiences as it is full of animated nudity and vulgar language. It’s hard not to laugh at what this trailer delivers.

R-rated animated movies are going to be having a moment this year. Seth Rogen and co. already teased "Sausage Party" at SXSW (our review), and next month at Tribeca, audiences will get their first look at "Nerdland," which earns its adults-only stripes and then some. Directed by Chris Prynoski ("Metalocalypse"), and featuring the voices of Paul Rudd, Patton Oswalt, Hannibal Buress, Riki Lindhome, Kate Micucci, Mike Judge, and Reid Scott, the story follows two L.A. dudes on the cusp of turning 30, who dream of fame. Here's the synopsis: Aspiring actor John (Paul Rudd) and would-be screenwriter Elliot (Patton Oswalt) are two La dudes approaching their 30th birthdays without yet becoming the megawatt superstars they know they were meant to be. In a town built on who you know (and who knows you), the ambitious duo will set out on an all-day journey through their all-star rolodexes to make it...
