This killed the SATC legacy
31 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The series that NEVER should have happened. It started off bad and just got worse. It's way too saturated on the whole WOKE thing. The radio show had me cringing. Killing off Big and the way it was done was horrible. Selfish Carrie only thinking of herself as they cart Bigs dead body past her. "What am I going to do now?" How about mourn your husband? Act like you cared about him. The writers RUINED the characters. They are unlikable and nothing like they were in SATC. Kim Catrell was so smart to avoid this dumpster fire. I'll watch the SATC shows again and the movies, but that's where the show ends for me. And just like that I rate this trash one star that it doesn't deserve.

Warning: Spoilers
This show came out the year I was born, but I remember watching it. It must have been rerunning at an age I can remember. I have always loved dogs and this was one of the first shows I watched with dogs. That and Lassie. Good memories.

If you dogs and/or the Clifford books you will love the film. I grew up reading the books and I was so intrigued by the idea of a Big Red Dog. I wanted one. It was a lot of fun seeing Clifford come to life on my tv screen.

IT lost its way : (
5 November 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Crappy review of my thoughts on It Chapter Two:

Oh how I wanted to love this movie. I enjoyed the original from 1990 (and the cast) and I enjoyed the first chapter. Unfortunately, this movie felt like a really weird, really long dream. Casting did a great job of matching the adults to their younger selves, but a few of the actors were just not present enough for me. Jessica Chastain and the actor who played Ben to name a few. Bill Hader was actually great, but I kept thinking he looked like Dwight from the office and it was very distracting. lol Same with James McAvoy. I was a mess because I kept thinking Ewan McGregor and Jason Bateman!!! Why!!!!??? I rarely get actors confused like this. smh The actors that played the kids nailed it compared to the adult actors, but unfortunately in this installment we saw the adults more.

Anyway, there were definitely some enjoyable moments from It, but it was very difficult to get the original version from 1990 and those actors out of my head. I wouldn't say that It is very scary and that was disappointing. It seemed more geared towards shock, comedy, surprise, and heart. If anything it was tense. The cameo from Stephen King was cool. What I enjoyed above all else was these amazingly solid friendships. I did enjoy the weirdness, but it was a bit too much. I enjoy a little comedy in my horror, but again it was overkill. Probably the best scene in the film was the fun house and under the bleachers. Oh yeah, where the hell was everyone at the Inn?!?! Were they too cheap to hire staff or other guests for the inn? Oh! Another weird thing! Just call me angel in the morning baby playing as poor Eddie gets severely vomited on by a rotting corpse. Seriously, what were the writers on? This is definitely a Stephen King movie for sure!

Perfection!
5 November 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I was excited to see this film and I must admit that it exceeded my expectations by far! I can't say enough about how amazing Joaquin Phoenix is in this film. I just love and adore when an actor sinks their teeth into a role this deep. It's obvious he had a real passion for this character and he simply shined. I can't imagine another actor playing this character in this particular film.

I rarely rate films a ten especially these days. Film making has been absolutely horrible pretty much since we moved into the 21st century. That may sound harsh, but it's true. Film makers have lost their guts and their passion. This film is gritty and it's raw. It may sound strange to say, but it's beautiful. I actually found it liberating and I started to worry about myself for feeling that way, but this film makes you look at a lot of s***. We haven't come much further since 1981 in many aspects and that's really sad. The first act was extremely hard to watch. His struggle was real and so relatable. I was literally crying. The feels just didn't stop coming and when he finally took a stand and defended himself the audience was with him! I was with him. It felt like he was standing up for all of us with mental illnesses that people don't see or care about and guess what happens when those people with those mental illnesses are left untreated and they are ridiculed for something they can't control? He was standing up for the poor that can't get ahead or catch a break for s*** while the rich get richer. He was sick and tired of people laughing at him and using him for their jokes and he was done taking it.

I didn't applaud after the film ended like others in the theater, but it absolutely deserved every bit of applause it got. This film is fearless. The actors, the directors, the writers, the custume designers, etc all deserve awards. I actually can't wait to see it again! I can't say enough! Must see!

Dreadful
29 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Someone in the reviews compared this show to Married with Children. Shame on you! Married with Children was amazing. This show lacks substance, good acting, good writing, and good sense. The laugh track is unbelievably annoying and overdone. Every other word gets a laugh. I also can't stand the music in between scenes! It's unnerving. Truly, the lines they deliver are so flat. The writing is poor as it is, but the delivery is the other half of the problem. Jennifer Coolidge is the final nail in the coffin. Her character is like fingernails on a chalkboard. I really don't see the appeal with this show. Maybe it's Kat's voluptuous figure? I really don't understand. 6.7 is an unbelievably generous rating for this show. It's shocking.

Warning: Spoilers
Basically Superman (who I love) if he came to earth with malicious intent. I absolutely love this original premise. The film is pretty bad ass in my opinion. I had high hopes with low expectations and I'm glad because it exceeded my expectations. The kills are super brutal, creative, and disturbing. The ending was perfection!! It could have gone a couple different ways and I'm glad they took it the direction they did despite a small part of me wanting justice and there being an end to him. So many movies end that way. I'm glad this film didn't do the predictable. It leaves room for a sequel as well. I'm not sure how I feel about that. I don't want them to ruin it.

So disappointing
12 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
The previews looked pretty good and I was excited for Octavia Spencer as the lead. It's so hard to rate her performance because the film itself is a hot mess. There was so much potential here, but it fell flat on its face. While I was watching I couldn't help but think everyone dropped the ball. Sometimes I struggle between whether the acting is bad or if it's just the bad writing. These actors needed to portray a level of stupidity that was simply too much to ask of the actors and the audience. The film was also very choppy. Thanks to the editing for that one. It felt forced and rushed and there were too many loose ends. When you watch a film you want to be so engrossed in it that you want to forget that you are watching people act. There were so many moments where I felt like I was watching a student film or a bad play. I'm angry. As someone who loves films and horror this was an absolute abomination. It was a let down. It only got a 5 from me because of Octavia Spencer. She did her best with what she was given. It could have been a 10 star movie, but there was definitely issues with laziness or time constraints or something. I hope Octavia gets another chance with this type of role. Given the right circumstances she could nail it!

AWFUL!
2 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I love horror and this isn't it. It's very slow paced. Nothing even happens for at least 40 minutes and when it does it still doesn't pick up the pace. There are too many lulls in between mild scares. The actors even seem bored. The demon isn't even scary! There are very few tense moments, but about halfway through you already know what to expect and it ain't much.

The writing does absolutely nothing to stimulate the viewer. It's all very predictable and disappointing. I wanted to like it, but it is boring and horror and boring don't go together. I feel like they were trying to create an original possession movie, but sadly and tragically they failed miserably. The opening scene is the best part.

I'm not saying not to watch. I never recommend not watching something. If you are curious like I was then by all means give it a watch just keep your expectations low.

Halloween (I) (2018)

Heartbreakingly Disappointing
8 September 2019
Warning: Spoilers
As a long time fan of Halloween I'm always very excited to see a new Halloween film being released especially with Jamie Lee Curtis. I understood going in that this is supposed to be the true sequel which in it of itself was a little hard to wrap my brain around because being a true Halloween fan I've seen all of the Halloween movies. Having to pretend that those other films never existed and that this movie left off where the first one ended would be difficult, but that was just the beginning. Next we need to believe that Michael Myers, a man that was portrayed as superhuman in the original movie is now just a man. Not just a man, but an old man. Sure, he may still be strong, but without that supernatural element that we are so used to Michael Myers in turn lost his magic-his ability to terrify. He's just not as scary in this movie. If you add all that to how disjointed this film felt it's a huge disappointment. The editing was horrible. The sequences felt out of order somehow and things were drawn out too much. A lot didn't make sense, the kill scenes had no build up, and as I mentioned before Michael just wasn't as scary. Did it have moments of momentum? Yes, but just barely and they were few and far between. I'm so confused as to how so many true Halloween fans can be so thrilled with this sadly disappointing film. I think making it a "true" sequel was a very bad idea.

Why is horror so bad these days!?
3 September 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I absolutely love horror, but the genre has been really rocky for a while now. Rule number one in horror, don't bore your audience. I was actually bored. I just didn't find the story itself all that scary and it didn't help that it had so much lag. The scares were not that scary and I couldn't get into it. One minute she can just appear in the house and the next we have to believe that she needs to use doors? WTF? Can the writers make up their minds? It was a frustrating boring watch. I'm glad I can cross it off my list now.

Boring and mind numbing, but strangely addicting
16 August 2019
Let me preface this with I actually liked the first episode. It was interesting how everyone coupled up, but things got boring fast. None of the conversations had any real substance. I often wondered if it was editing or if they actually did talk over each other as much as it seemed. They are trying to express their thoughts and feelings to their partner and the person that should be listening is also talking! It made it frustrating and impossible to follow and what I did hear was B O R I N G. The reason I stuck with it is because I did feel a tiny bit invested in these couples, but like another reviewer pointed out this show was way to PG for me. Everyone was ridiculously nice. I don't want fake fights or drama, but they were so scared to step on toes. Have none of these people watched The Bachelor shows? I often wondered if it was scripted because everyone used the same vocabulary-referring to each other as boys and girls instead of men and women, asking each other to be boyfriend and girlfriend (smh again with the PG vibe or dare I even say G?). Speaking of vibe, everyone always asking each other if they are vibing with someone. Vibing was way overused. Even when Ariel came out supposedly looking feirce it was more comical than powerful. I hope the step it up for season two and more funny stuff please. Caro vs. the bee in her hair was the best thing that happened on the show. P.S. The hideaway was lame. It was small, horribly decorated for romance, and only two glasses of champagne!?

A huge disappointment
10 April 2019
Warning: Spoilers
No spoilers:

I am going to keep this brief because truthfully there isn't much to say. I decided to watch this film because after having never known of Rosamund Pike before I quickly fell in love with her and her acting after having seen the amazing film Gone Girl. I didn't go into this film thinking it would be like Gone Girl despite still having a desire for more of that type of film. I just wanted to see more of Rosamund and her acting and what other types of films she has been in. It starts off really promising, but rather quickly takes a nose dive. There was a surprise or two and it actually had great potential, but it was wasted potential. The acting is good, the cinematography is good, but the story left a lot to be desired. That's all I can say to avoid spoilers. Despite my feelings I never tell people not to watch a film because what I don't like someone else might really enjoy and vice versa. If you are a Rosamund fan or just curious about this film then give it a look.

A complete waste of time
2 March 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This movie is by far the most boring waste of time I've encountered in quite a while. It looks pretty, but the story is predictable and lame. The three stars are strictly because I love Rachel McAdams in anything, the costume/hair/makeup department, and the cinematography.

I'm still shaking my head. This film is confusing simply because it goes nowhere and does nothing. Maybe that's the point. Maybe that's what is intended. I just found it infuriating. *shrug*

Ok Netflix, I see you.
8 January 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I figured I would get around to watching this movie someday. I'm not the type to jump on new movies right away, especially on Netflix because I like to look forward to things. I'm weird. With this particular film however, the meme's, and all the endless chatter on social media pushed me to watch mainly because I didn't want any spoilers to ruin it for me. So the other day on a particularly dark, windy and overcast morning (perfect weather for this film btw) I decided to give it a go not expecting much because Netflix movies in general kinda suck. The cast is impressive. I'm a big Sarah Paulson fan so finding out that she was in this film was definitely another draw.

I found the acting to be quite good and I'm surprised more people aren't raving about the beginning because pretty much from the start I was hooked. It was creepy as hell. I felt as though someone had a vice grip on my heart. There were slow moments, but if you're anything like me you appreciated those moments because the rest of the time it's intense! This film did remind me a lot of The Happening which was a horrible horrible horrible movie. I was left feeling frustrated and confused with that film, but for some reason I really enjoyed Bird Box from start to finish. There were still a lot of unanswered questions in the end, but somehow, unlike The Happening, it all seemed to have a point. This film scared me and I love that! But it also had unconditional love, survival, sadness, loss, and even a little humor. I also really appreciate that it was birds that warned of these things/creatures being nearby. Birds and all animals really are pure of heartband can sense things more than humans.

I can't really put it into words, but this film was everything and more for me. Sure it's very similar to a couple other movies, but all in all Bird Box stands all on its own. It's something special. I hope this is a sign of things to come from Netflix.

IN-CREDIBLE!
31 October 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I just finished watching and I can honestly say that I genuinely enjoyed this film!

If you appreciate a good psychological thriller you will be sure to enjoy this film. It's best that you go into it knowing as little about it as possible.

SPOILERS BELOW:

From the beginning I was hooked. As she was talking to that counselor I knew that she was digging herself into a very deep hole. I've been on the other side of it myself. You have to be very careful when discussing suicide with a health care professional, especially a mental health professional. I don't know how much insurance has to do with it. It has everything to do with it in the film, but from what I understand they are obligated to report it if they feel you're suicidal and if you do hurt yourself and they had any inclination that you would they could get in serious trouble. The counselor in the film didn't give a crap about her actual well being. It seems her job was solely to make money for the facility by baker acting sane people. You can't help but hate her and the rest of the staff, although you don't see her again after the initial session.

I'm so glad that I watched this film knowing very little about it. I was in awe when I heard that the entire movie was filmed on an iPhone. I love the concept and it certainly added to the already tense creepy atmosphere. Some people have left negative reviews saying it looked amateurish. I 100% disagree. I love the way this movie was filmed! I have sensitive eyes and watching "The Arrival" gave me a horrendous headache. I enjoyed the film, but it was so dark and difficult to see in most scenes! I didn't have that problem with this film. It was all great.

I felt the main character's frustration, confusion, anger and fear. She didn't realize that she was being committed at first, but I sure knew. I saw some other reviewers that commented that this film is too unrealistic. I can honestly say that when you are in a place like that you feel that powerless. It does feel like jail and it is scary and you do feel like you've been stripped of all your rights as a human being.

I appreciate that we have several moving parts going on here. We've got a corporation committing sane people for insurance money, we've got someone who is on the inside taking notes and reporting back to his employer about the fraud, and last, but certainly not least we've got the relentless psycho stalker that will stop at nothing. Oh! Let's not forget we've got everyone from the receptionist to the administration trying to cover their tracks. It's a lot, but not too much. I found this film to be different and refreshing. A welcome change from the same crap Hollywood is always throwing at us. I feel bad for all of the one star ratings this film received because I really feel the director and everyone involved in this project tried very hard to give us something good and something different and in my humble opinion they did!

Love It!
22 October 2018
Warning: Spoilers
So good I'm coming back for seconds! I watched this entire mini series in less than two days. The acting is flawless. The cinematography is stunning. The soundtrack compliments the atmosphere perfectly!

I wanted more. So much more, but I feel like restraint was used when it came to the writing which is a good thing. We really get everything we need, but I still wanted more! You simply cannot take your eyes off of Amy Adams not that you would want to. She portrays Camille Preaker with an imperfect perfectness. I enjoyed her performance immensely and desperately wanted to dive more deeply into her character. I wanted to know so much more because she's certainly a complex one for sure.

It's dark, disturbing, and mysterious and at times chilling and horrifying. I'm watching it a second time to absorb everything I may have missed before and it's just as delicious the second time around.

20 October 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I love this series, it's one of my all time favorite shows, but this particular episode has always bothered me. We rarely ever hear of Debra having a sister. We see her parents an appropriate amount, but there's only one episode for Debra's sister and I don't recall hearing of her again after that. I personally hate when shows do this. It would have been better if Debra were an only child. I realize the sister didn't need to be a big character on the show, but to go from barely mentioning her in the entire series to one episode centralizing on her and the relationship with Debra felt so forced and fake.

Venom (2018)

Eh
16 October 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Maybe a little better than expected.

I went to the drive in for a double feature and they were playing Venom and A Simple Favor together. Interesting combo, right? Venom was first. Let me preface this with I was curious about Venom, but it certainly isn't the type of movie I would go out of my way to see. In some ways it was exactly as I expected and in other ways it surpassed my expectations. Tom Hardy did a great job of playing Eddie, the lovable, and unwilling (at first) host to a very unusual looking alien with a sense of humor.

My main complaint with this film is the too long action/fight/chase scenes. I found myself zoning out at times and getting bored during scenes that are supposed to get the adrenaline pumping. This happens a lot in films of this particular genre and I guess that's what the appeal is for most people. It's just lost on me. Too much going on to even know what you're looking at.

Some of the humor is cheesy and too familiar. It's hard to explain. It just felt like a lot of it had already been done before, probably because it has been.

Overall decent film. They even made me sad and teary eyed when we were momentarily made to believe Venom died. Yep they made me like Venom.

Get ready for the sequel. They set it up in the credits. Of course.

Pretty damn good
28 September 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I really enjoy this show!

I love the '70s decor, the fashion, the hair, the cars, etc. I'm also big fan of strong women and I take every opportunity to watch a show or a movie or read a book with inspirational female leads. I have really enjoyed season one with these amazing women learning to be self-reliant and resilient no matter what is thrown at them and they have had a lot thrown at them! There's been infidelities, financial struggles, separation with children involved, mama drama, drugs, inhospitable work environments, gay boyfriends, etc.

My favorite character so far is Diana. She was probably my least favorite going into the series, but as the show progressed I found myself rooting for her and giving a little appreciative cheer after she finishes giving one of her incredibly inspiring (put you in your place/tell it like it is) speeches or pep talks.

When I looked "American Woman" up on IMDB I was initially stunned by the really low ratings and disappointed reviews. I'm obviously very happy with the show. Then I noticed that most of the unhappy viewers seem to have lived the '70s first hand and don't feel that it's being portrayed accurately. I understand that. I was born in 1981 and just missed the '70s by a hair. Still I've always been intrigued by this fascinating decade among others including two that I did live through-the '80s and '90s. I'm thinking that I'm probably able to watch this show more objectively because I didn't personally experience any of that time and I can't pretend to know what it was really like back then. I'm not comparing it to what it was actually like because I don't know. I can only compare it against what I've already been taught to think about the '70s based on movies and other tv shows which are probably not all that accurate either. Of course I would rather "American Woman" depict the '70s as it actually was, but with that said I still really enjoy it. I can't get enough of the the scenery, the fashion, the hair (of course), and the inspirational characters. It's also a very beautifully shot show. Each frame is stunning!

I sincerely hope that "American Woman" comes back for season two because I'm kind of hooked!

Mixed feelings
14 July 2018
Warning: Spoilers
As per usual this movie was marketed as a comendy and IT ISN'T. Why do they wish to mislead the audience so much!? Duh! Because they want us to spend money on the movie even if it means that we regret it!

I remember my sister and I were absolutely starving for a good comedy and the previews looked somewhat promising and I'm a fan of Jennifer Aniston and I guess you could say Vince Vaughn as well. I swear as I was sitting in the theater I kept expecting it to take a turn that would put it on the track I expected it to go on. But it never does. You would think something unexpected would be good, but it isn't.

Sadly, this movie is sad. S A D. First, because of the breakup and then the heartache that follows, but also because of the comedy that was attempted and failed horribly. I found myself thinking will this scene ever end!? Multiple times. It's just going and going and going and they expect us to find it funny, but it's actually horrible and painful to sit through. Speaking of painful -that ending! What even was that? They left it so open to interpretation. I really wish they would have given us more of an idea of whether or not they would possibly reconcile. I'm guessing not. I really hate movies that don't have a definitive ending.

I wanted to love it, but unfortunately I didn't even like it.

Worth watching
1 July 2018
Warning: Spoilers
That damn generator! lol

When I saw the low rating for this film I of course thought it probably wasn't any good, but I read through the good reviews and with that I had a glimmer of hope. I wasn't expecting a great horror film. I went into it trying my best not to have any expectations which helped.

While I feel that there is a lot lacking (they probably had a small budget to work with) I was still entertained and even a little scared. I am partial to the paranormal and more specifically ghost stories so this was up my alley.

There are certain things that happened that did look quite fake and somehow just didn't have the impact it should have. Again, it was probably due to a low budget, but all in all I enjoyed this movie. It's not a favorite and not the best I've ever seen, but I do recommend it. It's worth a watch especially if you have Netflix. We all know the choices on Netflix aren't always the best.
