Quantum Leap (2022–2024)
5/10
Disappointed, enough said.
23 September 2023
Yes I'm a fan of the original, no you can't compare them and yes there is so much wrong with the show that it unfortunately outweighs the nostalgia. Firstly, the script is so dumbed down to the point where they have to spell everything out for you. Secondly, I just can't stand the hologram/partner, I don't know why, but she bothers me, she is dull, whiny and makes everything about herself. I don't know why they made her character the romantic interest, it does not make it more interesting.

We also spend a chunk of each episode going over what is happening in real time, outside of the leap. I'm not going to lie, during the original episodes I did wonder what happens in the world that he is missing but the reality is that it doesn't matter, we care about the leap and the main character.

Besides the main character I can't say that I like anyone else in this show, they are annoying and detract from the point of the show, the part that you want to watch. Honestly I can live with the dumbed down dialogue and obvious plots if it had characters and storylines that entertained me, this unfortunately has nothing going for it.

They had a golden opportunity with this show and the stories are basically limitless but they are so underwhelming and they could not have cast the show worse if they actually tried, this is a truly disappointing miss and such a smudge on the name of quantum leap.

Just plain weird!
24 October 2022
This movies biggest is puzzle is how they got Jon Voight to be in it. This movie has zero redeeming qualities, I'm not even sure what I just watched. Think of it as the saw meets knives out meets escape room but with none of the actual good bits. I should have known to steer clear when I saw that Jonathan Rhys Meyers was in it. If you do somehow decide that a couple of hours of your life are completely worthless and you would rather watch possibly one of the worst movies I have ever encountered than do literally anything else, then you have been warned, I gave you a heads up. This movie is just plain poor on every single level.

Different than your average

I personally love the horror category, it is 100% my favorite genre. This could fall somewhere between being a thriller, a drama and a horror. I could quite easily see this as being an extended tales from the crypt episode or creepshow because it has that short story feel to it but it lengthened. I was surprised because I actually enjoyed it, the dialogue works and it builds up very slowly to the climax. It is not great, not by a long shot but I can't say that I didn't enjoy it. I don't think I would watch it again but I certainly don't feel like I wasted my time watching this it the first time.

I can understand why some reviews branded it as boring. It is not atypical horror, It is a story that unfolds and it all hinges on the dialogue, the subtle verbal queues and the promise that it is building up to something and I enjoyed that aspect of it, because it did make me wonder what it was building up to. Overall I don't think this is anything amazing by any stretch of the imagination but at the same time I don't think I've ever really watched a movie like this, and I've watched a lot of horror. There's something about the simplicity of the story telling that just works and you can't help but want to see how it unfolds so all In all, it was worth watching.

Wow, Star Trek is back!
4 September 2022
I'm surprised, amazed, kind of blown away and not because this is the best show ever, it isn't but it is a really good Star Trek show. I was hooked when I started watching it and with other shows like Discovery, I have felt myself forcing myself to watch it sometimes vs genuinely enjoying every episode. This has that old school feel to it and I think that is because they find such a good balance between making things feel new and yet still giving everything that old school vibe such as the ship, uniforms etc. One other thing that also stands out is the storylines, the episodes genuinely feel like exploration again and they also show that you can throw some action in without the whole show hinging on it. It should be about the stories and not just an opportunity to blow everything up, all the time!

Overall this is such a good return to Star Trek roots that I blew through season one and now can't wait for season 2. I don't even mind the idea of watching it over again. I am so happy that they went back to the basics with the show and finally came up with a show that can be new and interesting and yet captures the classic nature of the original series. I have this 10 stars because I'm terms of Star Trek I think that it is nearly perfect and I enjoyed every episode of season one.

Perfect example of how a Marvel show can be!
3 May 2022
I'm a huge Marvel fan and so I can't wait for new episodes or movies to arrive and so far with the shows they have been a little hit and miss for me although I have enjoyed every series they have released so far and this one is no exception.

This to me has been the best series they have released so far. I think part of that is that Moon Knight is not a character that I knew much about so I did not really have any expectations. I really love how they gave it the usual Marvel feel but made as story that is so far removed from anything else they have done so it feels fresh and new.

The locations are fantastic, the characters are fantastic and the music completely fits. They manage to get the back story in so well that it completely explains the character whilst also peppering in some action and good storyline to boot. Ethan Hawks surprised me with how good he is as the villain, it is not a role that I would have connected him with and yet he plays the part perfectly. The main character also fits perfectly (both characters) which shows tremendous acting ability to switch back and forth and completely sell you on it.

Overall this is my favorite series so far because it is so different to the others, they manage to introduce a new character and make him an instant favorite, now I can't wait to see this character on the big screen!

Better than I expected
3 May 2022
I'm kinda over zombie shows since I got bored with the slow moving walking dead but scrolling through Netflix i found this and initially put it on for background noise. I noticed very quickly that it was actually entertaining and fast paced so I decided to start it over and actually watch it and I am glad I did!

This show is smart because it moves fast so it always feels like something is happening, it rarely slows it down for unnecessary dialogue but when it does, the dialogue is impactful. The speed at which it plays keeps you on the edge of your seat and almost anxious the way that things play out. The entire series runs like the first 20 minutes of Dawn of the dead, chaos all over the place and you don't want to look away in case you miss something.

Series 2 is just as good as series 1 which does not always happen so I am hoping that a season 3 does come although it has not been announced as a renewal or a cancellation yet. I think that they did everything right with this show, unlike the walking dead the episodes don't move at a snails pace and the focus is not completely on character development or backstory, you do get a little of this but it does not distract from the main story. The episodes are also shorter so it feels like you can get through them at a fast pace.

Overall I like the show and I will continue to watch it if they continue to make it. One episode that stands out in my mind is where the entire episode was a zombie chase where the person spends the entire episode trying to get away. These zombies are fast BTW, not the slow moving type but more like the zombies from 28 days later, so it does get very intense!

If you like zombie shows and you want something a little new and fresh, give it a go! The episodes are short so it's not a time hog!

Wow, worse than I could have imagined
3 May 2022
I had low expectations for this movie and yet somehow it disappointed me in just about every possible way. I do like disaster movies but rather the subject of disaster vs the movie being a disaster itself.

Halle Berry has no sense of passion in her dialogue, she is telling someone that the world is basically ending but explains it like she has to take the day off work to go to the dentist, I just can't say enough how terrible she is in this movie. Benefit of the doubt for her is that the movie is riddled with terrible dialogue and terrible acting at times.

The movie starts with an explosive scene and then sits back and spends about 30 minutes or more with completely unnecessary story line that adds nothing to the movie, so the pace is slowed right down and the way that they disgrace the main character to then bring him back is just plain ridiculous. The story line is obviously out there but it could have been done so much better.

When you look at the main actors, you would think this is a big budget possible blockbuster but in reality this is no better than most of the made for TV disaster movies that you would see during the day on a random channel back in the early 2000's.

I have to admit I went into this movie blind, I didn't see a trailer so I did not know what I was getting into. It kinda reminded me of Geostorm but just a poorly conceived version with a terrible premise and worse acting. They either needed to go all in on the sci-fi side of the movie and make it more out there like Battleship for instance, ridiculous but embracing itself for what it is, or go all in on the disaster side because it's a mixture of the two but not in a good way. Avoid. BTW Halle Berry's career has fallen to an all time low.

Just wow
23 December 2021
It's always concerning when there is so much hype around a movie and then on top of that, being a Marvel movie fan myself, I have certain expectations.

Not my fault, Marvel set the bar, so they have to keep at that level or exceed it and they did that here!

The story is fantastic, everything you wanted and more. I did not think they could beat Homecoming but I have to say that I think they did with this movie. Tom Holland is again a great representation of the character. They pack so much story into this movie and yet it totally works. When Spider-Man 3 came out with Toby, it was too much, too many characters, too much story etc. But with this movie, it works.

When I look back on it, I can't say that there was anything I did not like, I thought that they nailed every aspect of the movie. The bad guys were great, the story line made sense and was easy to follow, the cameos were impressive and well executed and each cameo really brings their version of their character to life.

Overall I was super impressed and 10 stars is just an instinct, i just can't see anything that I didn't like I this movie, I left the theatre and I was genuinely happy that I saw it and it was everything that I was hoping it would be. When you think of the Marvel franchise, it could be easy to worry that it will never be the same now that some characters are retired/gone from the franchise. This movie gives me hope that the great storylines are there and new characters are always ready to enter the fold. If your a Spider-Man fan, I'm sure you will love this movie, it has everything a Spider-fan could want and more!

Disappointing to say the least.
23 December 2021
I have to say that I was really disappointed with this movie. Growing up with the originals, I remember how ground breaking they were and how much I looked forward to each one coming out. I know that you can't necessarily measure this movie against the trilogy and I went into it with that outlook but I still found that it just lacked the feel that the originals had, it didn't feel like the matrix completely.

This movie seems like a mess, like they tried to cram 3 more movies into one and as such it moves very fast, to the point where I found it hard to even follow. I personally didn't like the casting for Agent Smith, I felt like he did not bring the same menace or authority to the role. You never really see Neo develop his skills, it just kinda happens. Also the constant snippets of the previous movies peppered into the movie did not fit for me, just seemed weird how they added that in.

Overall this could have been so much better and honestly I don't think this movie adds anything to the original trilogy and nor does it add any real closure to the story or characters so I have to question what the point even was. It's weird because there is no plan on turning this into a trilogy, it's just a one off so what was the point? I give six stars because it made me nostalgic enough to want to watch the original trilogy again and the acting was good, the special effects were good. It's just a shame that they robbed so much from the originals and put them into this movie. Sometimes you watch a movie and it feels like they are making the movie just to make a movie, just because they can, not because it should be done. If you don't watch this movie, then you have not really missed anything.

Very disappointing
15 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I really enjoyed the original movie, don't ask me why, maybe it's because I watched it in the theatre as a teenager and I grew up watching the likes of Sarah Michelle Geller and Jennifer Love Hewitt etc but it is always a movie I can return to, especially during the Halloween period. This series simply sucks in comparison.

I don't understand why they would complicate such a simple premise but somehow they manage to. The twin sister angle is just pointless and adds nothing to the story except complexity. They are twins, regardless of their differences or anger towards each other, you would think losing a twin would be the most devastating thing ever and yet she does not seem too affected by that or at least not to the extent you would expect someone to be.

There is no build up to the kill scenes (isn't this the reason why we watch slasher slows and flicks?). It just happens, with no real atmosphere. You barely catch glimpses of the killer. Why not show the killer more with the black slicker like in the movie? You would see the silhouette without seeing the face In the movie, in this one you don't see anything.

Why even call this show after the movie? This could quite honestly be a completely different name because it does not remind me of the movie one bit. It's just another teen drama with a death here and there. You don't really care for the main character for obvious reasons and the rest of the characters you don't really get to know so you don't care when they die. They should have mimicked the movie in that respect because you very quickly understand the characters and do care when they die, there's simply no shock factor in this show.

I would say completely miss this show if you are a fan of the original movie because it's nothing like the original, or even the second one at that. This is just a plain old waste of time. I gave four stars because the production quality is good, it's just a shame that the characters are lame and there is no real suspense as to what is going to happen next.

Hostage House (2021)
3/10
Distinctly average
28 July 2021
It has a very lifetime feel to it which isn't always a bad thing but this movie is slow, predictable and feels like it has been done 1000 times before and it has been done way better.

The acting wasn't horrible but it's definitely a bunch of B or even C list actors at best. There is no build up to things, it's just consistently slow. The bad guys don't seem bad or scary, the family are dull and their background story is just so run of the mill.

Overall it's something that you can just throw on for background noise vs actually sitting and paying attention to because the movie itself is not very entertaining. I gave it three stars because it's not the worst movie you will ever watch but you could definitely skip it and not have missed a thing!

Blood Red Sky (2021)
7/10
Not bad, not bad at all.
24 July 2021
A lot of people say in their reviews "don't expect too much". Maybe it's just me but my only expectation is to enjoy a movie, not every movie is going to have an all star cast, amazing plot or crazy good special effects, possibly even more so when the movie is not coming out of Hollywood and straight to Netflix. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a Hollywood snob but the point is it's not exactly set up to be some kind of blockbuster.

So into the movie, I thought it was reasonably good. Some things were predictable and some things were not. It's not fantastic but I felt like it was worth a watch. I was surprised to see Dominic Purcell in it but maybe that's because I have not seen him in anything since prison break. The story is actually somewhat unique, contrary to some reviews on here. Obviously horror in the sky has been done before but not quite like this! I also like it when a movies goes in one direction and then suddenly twists into another like this one, a dramatic twist!

Overall it was not a waste of time watching it so in that respect it did it's job! It seems like so many movies are very similar lately, similar plots, similar locations etc that this one feels a little different so if nothing else, that seems like a good enough reason to give it a watch.

It's ok but it's been done before and it's been done better!
13 June 2021
I will start off by saying that I did not dislike it but I also didn't love it so like my rating it's somewhere in the middle for me. My main issue with this movie is that it feels like it has been done before (which it has) but it is not done any differently and that's where my issue is. You can get away with doing something the same if it's a great movie but it really is not. It is also slow paced for a movie that is supposed to keep you on the edge of your seat. Also with disaster movies they are supposed to make you feel anxious over what is going to happen but those scenes are just underwhelming and also predictable.

Overall it feels like they made this movie just to make a movie rather than putting some heart and soul into it. Eventually you don't really care for the characters (maybe you don't even care from the start) and that is a problem as well. I'm not mad that I spent a couple of hours watching it but I also wouldn't care if I would have passed this one up. Very average, middle of the road movie that you've seen 100 times already. Geostorm, deep impact, San Andreas, 2012, I could keep going, this one does not separate itself or stand out.

Nobody (I) (2021)

Kick ass movie!
13 June 2021
I really enjoyed this movie, it had me right from the start and I was hooked all the way through. It's a nice blend of John Wick meets the Equalizer except it does not seem to slow down too much to over explain things. If anything it gives you just what you need to know and then gets on with the story line and once it takes off, it's relentless all the way through to the end, blink and you'll miss something.

This movie shows that an action star does not have to be ripped or look like a pretty boy and if anything would not have been the same if he was because like the movie title, he is nobody, he could be the guy you sit next to at work and you would never know what he has been through.

Special shout out to Christopher Lloyd, what an appearance, not what you would expect at all and yet just like the rest of the movie and story, it works somehow. I know i touched on it before but I truly don't think they make many movies like this anymore, action packed but with a purpose, simple plot but somehow feels new and fresh at the same time.

I'm being generous giving it 4 stars
26 May 2021
It's starts off well enough and for the first 30 minutes of the movie it is somewhat intriguing but unfortunately the movie trails off at that point. It gets slow and obvious and the reality of the situation starts to fail.

The setup is way too elaborate and is based on such a weak motivation that it all just feels like a 10 minute story stretched out to the length of a movie. As others point out, theres a chunk missing at the end of the movie, so many unanswered questions.

Theres a ton of these movies around right now. Minimal sets, minimal cast, it just feels like a movie was made just to make a movie, there's not enough story here to necessitate an entire movie. The main actress does a decent job but this is one you could easily skip.

Starts great and then it gets complicated!
3 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I did like the show overall but I wished it had continued to be more like series 1 or 2 because as the seasons go on, it gets more complicated. When it first started it had a very x-files feel to it. Agents investigating the paranormal (is an obvious connection I guess) but once they start going into multiple universes, 2 of everyone etc. They drag it on for far too long and at times I quite honestly did not know what was even going on.

It's a shame because even the one off episodes are always force tied into the bigger storyline when they didn't have to be. They should have taken out the whole parallel universe arc and just continued to have them investigate one of events, a different character / story each episode. Then they could have added a simple overall story that runs along with each series and it would have been far better.

I gave it a seven because it starts exceptionally well and there are some fantastic episodes peppered into each season. The very last season is hard to get through because the story takes a sharp (unnecessary turn) and I just don't care for that part of the story line. I think this is an example of a show that was trying to be too clever when a more simple approach would have seen this run for much longer.

Can't believe this one slipped by me!
3 May 2021
I never heard of this show and found it when I was randomly scrolling through HBO Max. I recognized the main guy from "The Boys", so I thought I would give it a try. Wow, I can't believe I never heard of this show before!

This show has a little bit of everything, action, fighting, love triangles, mystery, investigation, murder, revenge and so much more! Yes it can get a little cheesy and unrealistic at times but I don't care because the main character has so much depth, you learn more and more about him as the series goes on.

I also like the pacing of the show, everything just runs fast so you look away and you could miss something that is important to the story line. The action sequences are well done and the plot doesn't lose focus as the seasons go on, they tie it together nicely!

This show is kind of Walker Texas Ranger meets Prison Break meets Wind River. The main character is just so like able that you want to see how his story unfolds, so it keeps you invested till the very end! I've just finished the show and I want to start it over, that's how much I enjoyed it!

Star Trek: Discovery (2017–2024)

A little good, a little bad.
14 December 2020
Some people on here say it's not Star Trek. It is Star Trek actually. It has Star Trek ships, Star Trek insignias and even familiar names and characters. So it is Star Trek, it just doesn't have the soul of previous iterations. It's weird because I like some episodes, a lot! But then there are also episodes that I can't stand which happens more and more after the first episode of season 3, the show almost goes backwards somehow.

I do agree with a lot of reviews about the main character, sometimes i do like her and sometimes I can't stand her. I really miss the style of other Star treks, it would focus on a different character here and there, maybe data one episode, maybe Riker in another but all you get is Michael, all the time! It's too much, I don't like her enough to want her to be the focus every episode. There's a ship full of people and we barely know them deep down like we know the main character. When I say it's lost the soul, I also mean the exploration aspect. It was always cool not knowing where they might end up next, what planet they may explore, what new species they will find. It's ironic that the ship is called Discovery but they don't discover anything new (except the future) I guess?

As a huge TNG, deep space nice and Voyager fan, it definitely does not feel like the Star Trek of old, if you want that then check out the Orville. If you are more of a fan of the Star Trek reboots then this might be more your taste.

Unexpectedly good
14 December 2020
First off I have to say a lot of these reviews that are below 6 on the scale are just plain ridiculous and pretty much the reason why I don't read reviews before I watch a movie. I feel compelled to say ignore them and watch it for yourself. Some people point out that the reason they don't like it is because of the main character and also the fact that it is not an obvious horror movie. I would agree it is not really a horror movie, it is a more of a character based story.

You are not supposed to like the main guy, he is supposed to be annoying because of his inadequacies and that is the whole point of the movie and it is what they focus on the most. I actually really enjoyed the movie because I did not know what was going to happen next, it was intriguing. People mention that the clues etc don't really stack up, that is also the point, they were out of their depth and barely have to investigate murders and so were bumbling around making a mess of the investigation.

Overall it was shot well with good quality effects, nice scenery, you really get a feel for the small town location. I also really liked the focus on the characters themselves, I felt like I knew a lot about the main character once the movie ended. Ignore the terrible reviews and give it a watch for yourself, just don't go into with an expectation that it is a horror movie because it is a little more than that.

Excellent detective series
6 August 2020
I started the show as background noise and then got hooked. I don't rate my shows based on how technically sound the police work is, it does not add to a show if it's more accurate in my opinion, if I wanted accurate then I would watch a documentary or ride around with a homicide detective on weekend off.

This is gritty and dark, kinda of reminds me of the sinner which is another excellent show. The show grabs you because the characters are not likeable, I think that's lost on some people. The character is affected by what he has gone through and so although you don't necessarily like him, you respect him and how tenacious he is. I can't stand the killer but that's how it should be and the fact I dislike him so much means that I am invested in the characters and story, you hate him because of what he does and how he does it.

Some of the side stories are a little unnecessary to the plot, I will admit but that does not detract from the overall story. It is Detective vs Killer, a good old fashioned chase if you like. Don't let the bad reviews deter you, watch an episode or two and then decide if you like it or not, I can't stand some of these baseless negative reviews. Truthfully there's 100 shows like this one on TV but this one is done right.

What amazing show, so much atmosphere!
4 July 2020
I gave this show a nine because it is nearly perfect. Usually shows that are dubbed bug me but with this show, the atmosphere and the music blend together so well that I barely notice it is dubbed because you are constantly drawn to more than just the characters talking, you absorb everything that is going on.

I must have had it in my queue for the longest time but finally I gave it a chance and I was hooked after one episode. I just finished season 2 and I am happy to report that it is every bit as good as the first season, it's almost like the first season just kept going and to me that is a true representation of a great show, that you don't notice the transition between seasons.

The show is dark and gloomy but in the best way, you never know the name of the town and yet you become so familiar with it, they do a great job of making you feel like you are exploring it. They also give you a great feel for the characters, you begin to care about them and that to me is also a sign of a great show, when the characters develop, you understand them and you care if they live or die.

To summarize, you need to watch this show, it's like Sleepy Hollow meets Brothers Grimm meets The Killing. I can't wait for season 3!

Poor script, poor acting and poor storyline!
26 July 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I was hopeful about this one but it really was garbage, sad really because this could have been so much more. As some other people mention, even the basics are wrong. For one it's like someone left the spaceship door open and some random people just clambered aboard. For second it's like an alien race took a great big dump on earth and some dude thinks playing classical music to it is going to have some monumental affect.

No spacesuits, no training, no structure of leadership! Just a bunch of people who just graduated college leading the most important mission the world has ever seen. I mean you would think that the most intelligent people in the world would have been hand picked for such an important task? apparently not, even I could have made the crew. Some of the characters you just plain hate and not in a good way, you just can't even stand their faces.

A lot of people say they like the main character, I'm sorry, why??? She is not likable in the least, you understand where she is coming from but damn, she has no relatable qualities. And also a person who is having convulsions from a possible parasite and then is suddenly eating dinner with them? Ever heard of quarantine, this is ludicrous! If I were Netflix I would take this off straight away, delete it, act like it never happened because I have to say this is one of the worst sci-fi shows that I have had the misfortune to watch.

At one point Katee looks at the camera and say's "you guys deserve better than this". I genuinely believe she was talking to us the viewers.

Ridiculous, over the top, gung ho and I could keep going but this is exactly why I love it! Don't look to far into the plot because you will tear it apart. And don't hate it because Michael bay loves the military and ruins our favorite child hood movies! This show is actually pretty damn good and it's mostly because of the intensity and fast pace that keeps me wanting to more. I'm over the walking dead. I'm over zombie apocalypse movies but this is fresh, it's a new take on an old story and for that, I'm all in. Some of the characters I love and some I hate and that is also a reason to stay invested. Who cares about military strategy or how viruses actually work, it's entertainment and I'm completely entertained. It's done its job, I appreciate it for what it is, a simple plot when you break it down, all out action and a not certain what is to come next. Season three on its way? Give me season 4 and 5 already!
