The World's 1000 Greatest Documentaries (In Progress)

by andreas-sellfors | created - 4 months ago | updated - 19 hours ago | Public

As I have spent many hours (and still do), on this project. So are we going to have a really, really quick look on the history of documentaries in this description - before I present the rules for the type of documentary’s, that you find on this list. And the first thing that you have to know. That is that "we" have been making documentaries since the beginning of the 1900's. And back then was it made to explore hidden areas of our global world. Many movies from this time are therefore made in Asia & Africa. Where it´s (the directors), intention was to inform us (we in the west),about these countries. And unfortunately, so are these movies sonly showing (as we see it now), a very romanticized view of this places. You see it for example in "Nanook of the North" (1922). However so are it´s director Robert Flaherty partially credited for his invention of the modern "narrative film structure", who almost every film is made up from. And documentaries have also had a great implication in propaganda and politics. Leni Riefenstahl's shameful films on behalf of the German Nazi Party - particularly 1935's "Triumph of the Will" - are for example a really scary reminder of how strong influence you can made on people whit a movie. And modern documentary’s (from 2010), are often (how less or how much we like), made from a certain political attitude or opinion. There would then be no surprise to you - that many of the documentary’s that I have in this list are also often ranked among The World’s Greatest Movies. But let this be very clear. Every title in this project are ONLY the ones that I consider as The World's Greatest documentarie
