Top 50 Best Films of 2024

by Rama_Andor1416 | created - 3 months ago | updated - 1 hour ago | Public

It’s that time of year again and here we go. The year 2023 was possibly one of the worst year for films. Major disappointments left and right with nothing really truly notable. Hopefully this year will be better. They just don’t make em like they use to. But maybe this year will be different.

1. Dune: Part Two (2024)

PG-13 | 166 min | Action, Adventure, Drama

79 Metascore

Paul Atreides unites with Chani and the Fremen while seeking revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family.

Director: Denis Villeneuve | Stars: Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Javier Bardem

Votes: 370,104

Hated part 1 but Denis is still amongst the best living directors out there so let’s see.

Always bet on Denis. Holy shit did this man deliver in more ways than one. One after another of a great example of a director who is finally discovering that plot matters. All you need is good acting to bring about this story without being bogged down with part 1 syndrome. This is a middle chapter that stands on its own. It is a straight shot full blown epic in every sense of the word. It is the kind of movie that cares for each character to have its time in the sun. Timmothy, Z-Day, Elvis, even Rebecca Ferguson has a great arc. Not just acting but their impact to this story is all put together to make sure it stands out as the reason to make a movie like this. Like that is the surprising thing about this whole existence. It makes this story matter. That is what on screen and o man does this deliver beyond the shred of a doubt.

10/10

I can’t help but be pretty excited to see this film. I like sport films and this seems a little different than the rest of the crop of sport films out there.

3. Society of the Snow (2023)

R | 144 min | Adventure, Biography, Drama

Director: J.A. Bayona | Stars: Enzo Vogrincic, Agustín Pardella, Matías Recalt, Esteban Bigliardi

Votes: 131,023

I guess this counts as a 2024 film. But nevertheless this is without a doubt already in the conversation for best of any year. This would definitely have made my top 10 of 2023, but who cares tho because Netflix release strategy has been messed up since jump. I don’t see how any movie even one this good can make any noise during award season. But maybe that was never the point. I don’t know man. J.A. Bayona is such a great director and it sucks he is keep getting the shit end of the stick.

4. The Beekeeper (2024)

One man's brutal campaign for vengeance takes on national stakes after he is revealed to be a former operative of a powerful and clandestine organization known as "Beekeepers."

Director: David Ayer | Stars: Jason Statham, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Bobby Naderi, Josh Hutcherson

Votes: 83,477

I can’t wait to see this piece of crap. But wow am I genuinely excited to see the Statham kick ass.

It is everything I hoped for and I couldn’t love this movie anymore. Like I’m being for real it is pure slick, fast paced, action film that is bonkers all to hell. I couldn’t ask for a better time at the movies and for January, which I don’t hold that weight when it comes to comedy people saying it is a dumping ground. Yes crap movies do come out in January but crap movies come out every month. And this is no crap movie.

5. The Greatest Night in Pop (2024)

PG-13 | 96 min | Documentary, Music

69 Metascore

On January 25th 1985, dozens of the era's most popular musicians gathered in Los Angeles to record a charity single for African famine relief. Setting egos aside, they collaborated on a song that would make history.

Director: Bao Nguyen | Stars: Lionel Richie, Harriet Sternberg, Wendy Rees, Harry Belafonte

Votes: 11,096

It’s an okay doc. Naruto did it better. I do like it but it felt more like you have to know what this is. I mean it is history but I mean it never goes beyond that but I have to rate it above an eight.

6. Chainsaw Man - The Movie: Reze Arc

Animation, Action, Adventure | Filming

Denji encounters a new romantic interest, Reze.

Stars: Kikunosuke Toya, Reina Ueda, Fairouz Ai, Shogo Sakata

A brutal yet brilliant arc that I feel in love with every passing panel and chapter. This is a wild roller coaster one I can’t wait to see animated.

7. Deadpool & Wolverine (2024)

Action, Comedy, Sci-Fi | Post-production

Wolverine is recovering from his injuries when he crosses paths with the loudmouth, Deadpool. They team up to defeat a common enemy.

R | Crime, Drama, Musical | Completed

Sequel to the film "Joker" from 2019.

Director: Todd Phillips | Stars: Zazie Beetz, Joaquin Phoenix, Lady Gaga, Catherine Keener

Screw all y’all who say the first movie isn’t deep. I guess you don’t care that much about metal health.

9. Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes (2024)

PG-13 | 145 min | Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi | Completed

Many years after the reign of Caesar, a young ape goes on a journey that will lead him to question everything he's been taught about the past and make choices that will define a future for apes and humans alike.

Director: Wes Ball | Stars: Freya Allan, Kevin Durand, Dichen Lachman, William H. Macy

A new Apes movie should be pretty interesting. I like Wes Ball and think this could be a pretty an exciting change of pace. Not seeing any trailers or even the plot of this movie does have me somewhat intrigued to see where they could take this franchise so fingers crossed.

10. Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga (2024)

R | 148 min | Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi | Completed

The origin story of renegade warrior Furiosa before her encounter and teamup with Mad Max.

Director: George Miller | Stars: Anya Taylor-Joy, Chris Hemsworth, Angus Sampson, Charlee Fraser

They should have brought back Charlize Theron but I do like Joy and Fury Road is the one of the best action film to come out, ever. Not in this decade or anything like that but ever.

11. Alien: Romulus (2024)

Horror, Sci-Fi | Post-production

While scavenging the deep ends of a derelict space station, a group of young space colonizers come face to face with the most terrifying life form in the universe.

Director: Fede Alvarez | Stars: Cailee Spaeny, Isabela Merced, Archie Renaux, David Jonsson

Fede Alvarez is back baby and I can’t wait to see him tackle the Alien franchise. This does have me excited. Sad that we didn’t get Neil Blomkamp’s Alien sequel but you know what let this franchise go into a new direction without any ties to the original and the young cast seems pretty cool if you ask me.

12. Kung Fu Panda 4 (2024)

PG | 94 min | Animation, Action, Adventure

Directors: Mike Mitchell, Stephanie Stine | Stars: Jack Black, Awkwafina, Viola Davis, Dustin Hoffman

Votes: 31,494

For me this series can keep going on. I don’t need 5th Toy Story, hell I didn’t even need a 4th Toy Story but this franchise is very different in that the world is much more rich and expansive that you can tell multiple stories and still feel fresh and new so don’t disappoint.

13. Love Lies Bleeding (2024)

76 Metascore

Gym manager Lou falls for Jackie, a bodybuilder who is passing through town en route to a competition in Las Vegas.

Votes: 10,070

I’m excited to see this Katy M. O'Brian. Who is she and everyone is hyping her up to be the next big thing? Never heard of her but she looks fierce in this movie so I’m sold.

An update to the 1996 film 'Twister', which centered on a pair of storm chasers who risk their lives in an attempt to test an experimental weather alert system.

Votes: 31,419

When it wants to be funny, it is. When it wants to be serious, it is. When it wants to tackle very character centered actions of what motivates certain individuals, this does that in spades. Holy crap what a well balanced tone shift of a show that isn’t afraid to go there. Just finished episode 4 and now I need somewhat of a break because damn that was intense.

It is a cool concept and it seems to gather up some hype among even myself who knows nothing about the series. But 3 episodes in and I’m far more invested now to give it up.

Damn. And I mean damn. The fact that this made no noise back when this happened should be a direct insult to all the victims involved. It is just insane that all of this happened in the first place and even the fact to celebrate those who made these victims lives a living hell. I mean holy crap treat those involved like Will Smith after the slap. Take away all of their shit. Again how insane things went it is just infuriating to say the least. Hell even that police lady who lied in When They See Us got fired but still even that is not enough. Just like that $2.5 million they got is still not enough. Clean house.

Stars: Gordon Cormier, Kiawentiio, Ian Ousley, Dallas Liu

Votes: 67,633

It may not be a knockout but it still gets the nuts and bolts of the story so some of it can still let you get absorbed in this world because that is just how good this story is. The Zuko and uncle stuff is unbeatable unlike anything of the other live action remakes can offer. Again it doesn’t offer anything the OG does other than live action treatment. So even on that level it succeeds. The Lion King remake is a shit for shit remake but even that couldn’t convey what the original brought to the table. This isn’t that. The costumes do not come off as cosplay, the production design does not feel like it was shot in someone’s basement in front of a green screen, and the acting for the most part is delivering on all cylinders. I do wish we just had the continuation of the story. Even if has to be in live action I would take it.

44. House of Ninjas (2024– )
