2 stars only for Sofia and Bea Doona. But even tho I think this is possibly Snyder’s worst film he still is single handily the greatest director to have ever be handed a camera.

It wasn’t that crazy. It was just okay. But there is still some great docs on Netflix about true crime that is full blown amazing. This just isn’t it.

April 12, 2024.

Sure I like the approach but the whole entire horror aspect of what this could happen is only enough for me to pump it up to a 3. Seriously 3 is for those movies that have all style and no substance. That’s fine don’t pick a side, don’t pick a why, or do anything like that. Which again is fine but those type of movies are just not for me. I’m glad if you all are really digging this movie but for me if you are going to tell a fictional telling of a American Civil War then I’m sorry but for me I require a lot more than just a fly on the wall perspective of this kind of story.

7. Scoop (2024)

TV-14 | 102 min | Biography, Drama

63 Metascore

Director: Philip Martin | Stars: Billie Piper, Gillian Anderson, Rufus Sewell, Connor Swindells

Votes: 12,328

April 5, 2024.

I wish I liked this more. But it isn’t that bad. I just felt really underwhelmed into a story that I already know so much about because this type of news is easily accessible that it truly isn’t a surprise or whatever else some of this comes off as. Look at Air sure it is something that can easily be fluxed and changed for the type of story it is telling and here is this put slot a into slot b movie that doesn’t offer much aside from the opening ten minutes before the title drops. Now that is how you film a scene like that.

Director: Rudy Mancuso | Stars: Rudy Mancuso, Camila Mendes, Francesca Reale, Maria Mancuso

Votes: 2,789

April 4, 2024.

Gotta support my people even if Betty or is this Veronica whatever she is not the red head so it doesn’t matter. Plus my people aren’t even this movie. Also it is no tick, tick… Boom! But it is pretty close and I don’t mind the abruptness of some of the choices. And I’ll say this there is actually a lot to like here. A main character who isn’t an asshole, sure annoying but he goes to school has ambitions and dreams but a character flaw that I think a lot of men can relate to main character syndrome. And here is a director and the lead letting out exactly what they dreamed up. Along with letting the movie settle before dropping the reason why this guy drifts off. But again it isn’t based on being a jerk it is how this character is dealing with something like he does. It ain’t a bad what seems to be a plot line Joker 2 is going to deal with. But here is a very comical and heartfelt way of looking at life. So yeah I dug it.

11. Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire (2024)

PG-13 | 115 min | Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi

47 Metascore

Two ancient titans, Godzilla and Kong, clash in an epic battle as humans unravel their intertwined origins and connection to Skull Island's mysteries.

Director: Adam Wingard | Stars: Rebecca Hall, Brian Tyree Henry, Dan Stevens, Kaylee Hottle

Votes: 38,936

March 28, 2024.

Give Wingard a chance to make his next big horror idea. I know he wants to do Thundercats and maybe he could kill it but I would love for him to make another horror film that he sink his teeth into because this guy has made some great work and him reteaming up with Dan Stevens again after they worked great in The Guest was so nice to see him here. Seriously what a great role for him. The movie is just fine. However I will say they do give more personality to these two behemoths. Kong is lonely and seeks a family after learning he is the last of his kind, and Godzilla to me actually has an arc here as well. It ain’t groundbreaking but Godzilla learning to not become this big walking destruction that kills everything in its path to actually join forces and work together was something nice to see. And for good reason as to why Godzilla is the way he is because if you know your Godzilla history he has every reason to reek havoc on the world that woke him up now we have to reek the outcome because of it. Which is why I am never really on anti Godzilla train. Of course because of humans I am picking Kong but Godzilla has every right to be somewhat upset. Plus he believes that this is his home and he wants to do whatever he wants because he is the best of the best. He isn’t just powerful but he is power. Kong knows his place and I like that this movie absolutely shows the difference between the two. It just sucks that we above the surface do have Godzilla but I wish this movie or even the previous movies did at least make an attempt to convey that we are trying to understand why Godzilla is the way he is. It really would make these movies so much better. I hope whatever sequel spawns out of Godzilla Minus One they do open that gate and go into full throttle. For now we have to deal with crap like this. Eh naw it ain’t that bad.

14. Road House (2024)

R | 121 min | Action, Thriller

57 Metascore

Ex-UFC fighter Dalton takes a job as a bouncer at a Florida Keys roadhouse, only to discover that this paradise is not all it seems.

Director: Doug Liman | Stars: Jake Gyllenhaal, Daniela Melchior, Conor McGregor, Billy Magnussen

Votes: 109,117

March 21, 2024.

Just good enough. It had some cool fight scenes and I do love that Connor McGregor is not playing himself. He is basically playing the wolf from Pulp Fiction and those are always my favorite type of characters. Those who come in and do the work. And he excelled at it. A little too long with almost a lot of unnecessary characters and plot points that really didn’t need to be there. Not even the property side of it all was that much of a bother and a nice change. I like that as compared to another bar or something like that to be the main antagonist figure. So yeah it was fun.

15. Imaginary (2024)

Director: Peter Farrelly | Stars: Zac Efron, John Cena, Andrew Santino, Riley Stiles

Votes: 38,703

March 7, 2024.

O yeah I’m pretty sure my significant other would be just fine with finding out that this fake friend I have been lying about for decades has never been true. All the trips my friends and I have been all have been built on lies. Who knows what happened on those trips and can you even believe us if we didn’t do anything. I mean logic flew out the window sure and for this to be a comedy that plot could be funny but if it went there. I truly wonder if this was made when the brothers were still making movies together and 20 years ago then maybe this could have been really funny. But this has no bite.

17. Damsel (2024)

PG-13 | 110 min | Action, Adventure, Fantasy

Director: Juan Carlos Fresnadillo | Stars: Millie Bobby Brown, Ray Winstone, Angela Bassett, Brooke Carter

Votes: 79,397

March 8, 2024.

It ain’t that bad but it is pretty bad. Who am I kidding this is bad. I was like this one scene did have me somewhat intrigued and I like the ending to some degree but damn is this script awful and nothing feels lived in. Cmon Netflix sellout for an actual castle. Dumb.

18. Dune: Part Two (2024)

PG-13 | 166 min | Action, Adventure, Drama

79 Metascore

Paul Atreides unites with Chani and the Fremen while seeking revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family.

Director: Denis Villeneuve | Stars: Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Javier Bardem

Votes: 370,312

March 1, 2024.

So that is what a serious science fiction action epic looks like. Thank you Denis. I’m surprised because of how the media is not to dwell on about how this is a white savior movie. It basically is and for its own good measure I think the movie knows that and wears it as a badge of honor. Which was one of the more surprising aspects about the movie. Even the last kinda reveal makes it even more apparent that Paul is the end all be all. But if the rest of Hollywood is cooking with propane Denis is cooking with charcoal and boy if he lands it then boom it will catastrophic. I can’t wait.

19. Spaceman (I) (2024)

R | 107 min | Adventure, Drama, Sci-Fi

55 Metascore

Half a year into his solo mission on the edge of the solar system, an astronaut concerned with the state of his life back on Earth is helped by an ancient creature he discovers in the bowels of his ship.

Director: Johan Renck | Stars: Adam Sandler, Carey Mulligan, Paul Dano, Kunal Nayyar

Votes: 31,703

March 1, 2024.

Damn I was with this one for a while but damn a big let down. Paul Dano’s spider was all like wait for the beginning. The beginning is near and I’m like all hell yeah we are going to go all existential or even some cosmic type of sci-fi. But no that poster right there is all you get. It is a shame because I will say this, Sandler has been great. I really think he got robbed for best actor for Uncut Gems. He should have not only been nominated but he should have won. And I love Phoenix’s Joker but that performance is on a whole new level for his career. And I thought this would take him in a whole new direction but sadly he is just miscast. The tone is too bleak for an actor like him and you want to talk about Maestro being too Oscar bait, but here he is doing it all the same stuff. Even right down to having Carey Mulligan here. It is boring and too little going on for something to grab my attention. It doesn’t need to go full on comedy like his earlier movies but damn Sandler could be Taylor made for a role like this. Isolation, loneliness, and dreaming big. I truly believe in different hands Sandler could be the one to bring to life a movie like this. Him bonding with the spider could have been an excellent two hander. Sadly it is just dull and nothing new to offer. It is the same bleak and tiresome tone like the rest of the recent space movies. Ad Astra, High Life, even Moon had some wasn’t this bleak, all movies that kinda handled the same themes with the same tone and this is another one.

Director: Haruo Sotozaki | Stars: Natsuki Hanae, Kengo Kawanishi, Akari Kitô, Yoshitsugu Matsuoka

Votes: 3,583

February 23, 2024.

I’m really getting worried for the state of anime movies now. Especially these Demon Slayer movies. Fine they include the end credits this time like the last movie but it is the same thing. The last episode of the previous season and the first episode of the upcoming season to get everyone ready when you can just wait to see the upcoming season anyway. It is frustrating and I know Cruncyroll is behind some of that decision. Because this could have been a straight two hour film that focuses primarily on the Hasari training which the title is referring to. Instead it is just to hear everyone up for the next season. I just feel like this is wasted potential and seriously what was the point of this. Just save your money and wait for the next season to come.

So many bad movies already in 2024. This is amongst the bottom of the barrel. I had no idea 2024 had this many bad movie under its belt. And why is Andrew Shultz keeps getting work. It has some charm and even has a lot of different opportunities to have it be different than the usual fish out of water/ I’m not who you think I am type of comedy that does have like I said is somewhat different. But at the end of the day it does follow all the same rules and it ends exactly as you think.

Holy shit and hell yeah. This is how you do an action movie. The fight scenes are fresh inventive, and above all else has a blast with itself. You have seen this many times but the fight scenes and some lesser performances that don’t take this material too serious was a fun time. A very enjoyable fast and action heavy film that will keep you more entertained than I would say most of stuff that came out this month.

A fine little bottle thriller that does stick the landing. I would much rather have an ending like this than I guess Buried but I still get why that film ended the way it did. I guess it just comes down what I like and I like this ending and the ending of Nowhere last year. Those are the endings I like.

It’s going to get better, right? Was my thought process throughout the whole movie. It has a very serious and down right rigid tone that is desperately trying to have a very realistic approach to this subject material. And I am all here for it. Because here is a science fiction film that does what all the classics have done. They don’t laugh at the material instead they embrace it and are willing to go the extra mile in showing how beautiful and important a story like this can be. Sadly it is not. I know some will complain and be like o here is a sci-fi movie that is not interested in the action set pieces instead it wants to tell a redemption story and a reflection story of how we became the way that we are. But holy crap man does each plot point and motive drop like a rock by just mundane stuff that is thrown in here. But it still isn’t the worst film I have seen this year.

Hilarious that I watched Badland Hunters after this because that is an action film with great fight scenes. This is a slog but only because some of the action scenes don’t have the punch that I want some of my action movies to have. It is balls to the wall insane but I do look at films like Lost Bullet, Ballerina, or even some other low budget action films have succeeded in. This just missed the mark big time because none of the action scenes provide any thrill or adrenaline. And when the action scenes don’t have that it is the most mundane group of lines that any screenplay has done and said a million times.

Wow I hated it. But I have to Sexy is the best song and I think the movie knows that because they play it twice so I’m not crazy to think it is the best song.

Haha. This is just a lame, lame excuse or movie or idea or whatever. The movie just falls flat with nothing truly to grab the audience. Or even me. Spock is fine Nate Jacobs is fine, and even the monkey is cool. But this film doesn’t have a leg to stand on its own. A road trip movie between a serial killer and a monkey’s trainer with said monkey in the car is something new to the road trip genre. Usually it is the wild out of control paired with the up right know it all. O what they are that pairing. We have just seen this before even with the added professions they include here.

Yeah mumblecore is just not my thing. O worst knockoff mumblecore that is not funny and beyond saving a premise like this. Jake Johnson could be a pretty good director and writer but this is just ain’t it. And yeah I could do this challenge none of these fools can kill me.

Who knows why movies get made? This isn’t some cool spy thriller or an action packed thrill ride with inventive shots from or even a story where I go hell yeah let’s get this shit going. Instead I just wanted it to end.

I wouldn’t mind seeing Dan Levy take another crack at directing. His writing is most certainly there with some notable changes that could elevate this into being better than it is pose to be. But a lot of the performances are top notch and are here to show that hey other directors these are good actors and they don’t need to be type cast in everything. I like that the dude from Yesterday is annoying and is playing that up plus I didn’t like his character but he does have moments to shine. Ruth Negga has never gotten her due and it is a shame that she isn’t more well known. As Levy as the actor he still isn’t as strong as he thinks he is. But like I said his writing and even direction are there maybe with a different story and more plot driven then maybe he would have something here.

Honestly it’s not terrible. I have more praise for this movie than I thought I would. If only some parts the script wouldn’t over explain every little thing then maybe this wouldn’t be a half decent horror flick with some good moments that lets good actors like Wyatt and Kerry actually act. They are good. But their children both acting and script wise are just not it. So yeah the bad definitely out weigh the good.

I guess this counts. But nonetheless I do want to chart down more movies that have came out this year going off the US release date. Or at least the considered wide or straight to streaming releases. Only films to which to me does count out some tv shows but I usually don’t watch a ton aside from anime. But back to SOTS, it is fire.
