The Walking Dead producer Gale Anne Hurd has called for U.S. and European countries to strike formal co-production agreements to support indie films and TV shows.
“There are no co-production agreements between U.S. and European countries, so what many of us have done is partner with countries that do have them, like Canada and the UK,” said Hurd at the Audio-Visual Producers Summit in Italy. “That’s what I’ve been doing: putting those pieces together. Can we today move to find legitimnate co-production agreements between the U.S. and European countries?”
The Valhalla Entertainment founder and Terminator producer revealed she had “struggled for a year” to get distribution for her latest film project The YouTube Effect, in a tough environment for indie productions. “Everyone turned us down but we went ahead anyway because we had supportive financiers who believed in the project and now we’re in distribution,...

Upon reflection, there couldn't be two '90s Hollywood studio films that are more opposite than Barry Sonnenfeld's "Addams Family Values" and Robert Zemeckis' "Forrest Gump." Both released in the mid-1990s (although the novel "Forrest Gump" was released a decade before making it to the big screen), the two films might represent the ends of an anarchist spectrum. On the one hand, the Addams family is a creepy bunch of murderers who live in a strange haunted mansion, and who take delight in the misery of others. They live far out on the fringe and they love it. They spray blood on people, pour boiling oil on Christmas carolers, and, in the famous climax of "Values," kill off all the counselors at a summer camp.
"Forrest Gump," meanwhile, is a cube of American cornpone about the Rockwellian nature of old American institutions. "Forrest Gump" argues that the inside was the place to be,...

Gravitas will now release the film day-and-date in theaters and on-demand on September 17.

The PGA, which has more than 8,000 members, unveiled the 57-page document Monday with detailed recommendations on testing, maintaining physical distancing and wearing personal protective equipment. Exclusive: Deadline has learned that Revelations Entertainment and award-winning producer and former Lakeshore Entertainment president Gary Lucchesi are teaming for a joint venture to develop more than 25 new projects to be produced under the Lori McCreary-Morgan Freeman production umbrella.
The news comes in the wake of Lakeshore’s sale to Vine Alternative Investments a month ago. The joint venture brings McCreary and Lucchesi back together, the two having been co-presidents of the Producers Guild of America from 2014-2018.

Lucchesi tells Deadline, ”I have loved working at Lakeshore for the past 21 years and continue to remain close to Tom Rosenberg and intend to find projects that we can produce together.

Sales operation will not support Vine-owned Village Roadshow.
In its latest striking acquisition, Vine Alternative Investments has snapped up Lakeshore Entertainment’s library in a deal observers have valued in the $200m range, as well as the company’s international sales operation.

Lakeshore Entertainment has put its film library on the block as it seeks to expand its activities in television.
The company quietly began shopping its 300-title library earlier this year. Moelis & Co. is handling the sale process.
“Over the past 20 years, Lakeshore has built a top-tier 300-title motion picture library through production and acquisition, with films such as ‘Runaway Bride,’ ‘Million Dollar Baby,’ ‘Lincoln Lawyer,’ and the ‘Underworld’ franchise,” Lakeshore spokesman Dennis Davidson told Variety. “Premium content has proven highly desirable to a multitude of financial and strategic buyers and Lakeshore’s library, including its numerous remake, sequel/prequel, and television adaptation rights, is an ideal asset for them. Lakeshore is investigating monetizing this library, which will allow the company to expand into television, as well as continue its broad feature film production.”
Lakeshore decided to test the waters for its vault after receiving a few unsolicited inquiries from interested buyers.

Berman and Fisher are the first female pairing in the role — and fully aware of that significance. They bring a wealth of leadership experience to the presidency: Fisher, a former vice chair at Sony, runs Red Wagon Entertainment with her husband,...

Katie Holmes is set to star and take on the lead role in a sequel being developed for the 2016 horror film The Boy.
William Brent Bell will return to direct The Boy 2 and it will be produced by STXfilms and Lakeshore Entertainment. Screenwriter Stacey Menear is also back to write the script.
The first film was an ok horror movie. It starred The Walking Dead’s Lauren Cohan and the story followed a young woman who takes a job as a nanny for an 8-year-old boy in a remote English village. Turns out, the child is actually a life-size doll that needs to be cared for like a real human. As you might expect, bad things start to happen when the rules of the doll are violated.
The story for the sequel is said to revolve around a young family, “unaware of the terrifying history of the estate into which they move,...

Katie Holmes stars in Brahms: The Boy 2, a sequel to the 2016 Lauren Cohan-headlined horror film.
The Boy arrived in early 2016 as a uniquely interesting horror movie offering, not only because it was headlined by Lauren Cohan, then one of the stars of one of TV’s hottest shows, AMC's The Walking Dead (to which she will soon return), but also because of its unique promotional strategy, which teased it as a haunted house movie; something that, as shocked audiences would discover, it is not. Indeed, while the film provided a profitable $64 million bang for STXfilms’ $10 million budget buck, a sequel – barring something straight-to-dvd – was not expected… until now.
Brahms: The Boy 2 is the title of STXfilms and Lakeshore Entertainment movie sequel, which procured a high-profile star in Katie Holmes. The sequel got The Boy band back together, landing original director William Brent Bell, who worked...
